Loved this local place. Front part is just a small outdoor sitting bar we had a fee beers then headed to the brewery to have a few of the beers they brew here. The gentleman that helped us was amazinf and very knowledgeable. He helped us pick out our beer flights based on our likes. We went there friday afternoon for lunch. The waitress/bartender was very friendly and did a great job taking care of us. We had the flounder sandwich which was very good, along with a couple of house made beer which went well with our sandwich. It happens. Yelp sets very low expectations. The reviews for Jack's were a mixed bag. Word on the street was even worse. But you find a reason to go anyway. So when a friend who is involved in the new brewery opening today told me to stop by, I agreed to do it for her. Well guess what...those preconceptions are mostly shot. The BBQ pork sandwich was very tasty. It didn't need sauce but I put some on to add a little moisture. The fries were hot and crispy. The slaw was amazing. Service for the food part of the experience could be be summed up as gruff. The edge needs to be a bit honed on the gal who was at the bar. Then there was the Brewery. I'll make note here but will elaborate on my review for the business, Bootlegger Beach. I had the IPA and the Marzen. The former was a classic West Coast IPA with a balanced hoppiness. It's a strong beer. The latter is a very good version, slightly malty and a little sweet. I'll be back to see where this all goes. In the end, I say we should sometimes look beyond the reviews, take a chance, roll the dice...the popular consensus might not be exactly right. Absolutely outstanding spot. Confused by reviews. Few notes: 1.) All beers are strong, and all are outstanding. Belgians should be proud. 2.) Food is clearly on up and up. We had fried cheesecurds, and from a fella from Wisconsin, these were A-grade. Hot, fluffy, with good sauce. Wildly impressive. My kid is still talking about them. 3.) Overall ambiance is totally intriguing. Next time, I will have some Marzen and use the pool and then play some pool. 4.) Legendary place. Lotta juice here day and night. Come right off the beach and have a few greases. Then I end up just staying till close. Lotta talent here and local trailer folk. Normally I don't go to restaurants that don't have at least 4 stars. This last Saturday I was driving past with some friends and they wanted to stop in as they hadn't been there for years. Well the place has a brewery now so that sold it for me. This place is really cool, as we had already eaten I can't comment on the food but the Irish stout and IPA were really good. To top it of we could sit drinking with our legs in the pool. This place has had something for everyone, beach dive bar, pool room and a cool new small batch brewey all connected together. We corrected her saying our dog is a trained service dog, and rather than correct the situation she made the assumption that our service dog was an emotional support animal. He proceeded to tell me that I could not have him there, I explained to him that I had papers on my dog with TSA and medical documentation that I would happily show him. Every beach should have a little open-air dive bar and this one is it! I remember coming here about 34 years ago and thought it was cool that it still exists. It has grown from the tiny shack to a whole corner lot full of buildings now - one with pool tables, a tiki bar and even a swimming pool. Yep, a bar with a pool! Jacks has found a way to my heart, yea it's kind of a dump and you could run into some real characters but that's part of the draw. The people that frequent Jacks are all works of life, it can be a little intimidating but if you give it a go you might find yourself having a good time and it could be one of the places you look forward to going. Drinks are cheap, they have pool tables, live music on the weekends and a pool (but I've never seen anyone in it) and they have some interesting specials, on Wednesday night they had filp it, where you call it and if you get it right your drinks free. I have yet to try the bbq. So you'll need to try that for yourself and I'm sure it is as interesting as the people that hang till 2am most nights. We parked to eat and as we did we watched a single mother pull in to change her child's diaper. 1/17/21 1.30pm street side Just had the rib platter $15 that comes with either fries or tots and either baked beans or coleslaw. The half rack of ribs were pretty good ... about 6 bones? ... they had just a slight resistance coming off the bone. Both homemade bbq sauces (one mustard based) are tasty. French fries were nice and hot. I wasn't impressed with the beans so will try the coleslaw next time. It's unique as in it would remind most of a roadside farmers stand except this is a bar that serves good food. Ive had the wings a couple weeks ago and they were great. After seeing Jacks several times during our visits, my husband had to try. He is a lover of all dive bars and a bbq fan! This is a great place to sit and have a cold beer and visit with locals. The bartender was friendly and full of good stories. However the food was not good at all. Our son had the brisket and rated it a 2 and my husband had the ribs and rated them a 3. The meat just did not taste good and the bbq was sauce was watery and tasted like black pepper and nothing else. The Carolina sauce was very good though.
