High quality restaurant with delicious food and lots of options. We ordered the coconut shrimp with mango sauce, crab Rangoon, lobster passion roll, yellowtail jalapeño appetizer and some chicken fried rice. Everything arrived in less time than we expected. Each item was delicious and thoughtful. The coconut shrimp were some of the best I've tasted. The lobster passion was so pretty and indulgent. The yellowtail was perfect. And my lychee mojito was uniquely delicious. The restaurant was active but peaceful and we were actually able to hear each other talk for a change. Will definitely be coming back here. A really underwhelming experience. We made reservations to go here on Christmas Day. It's sort of a tradition in our family to do Chinese on that day, and this place looked fun and had been recommended a couple of times. Plus it has that kitschy mid-century style. The food was just not good. I splurged and ordered the Beef and Aspragus. I was even asked for a temperature preference, leading me to believe this would be cooked to order and slightly more elevated than your typical beef and broccoli combo at a takeout place. On arrival it was not even appetizing. The beef had been marinated to the point of being spongy, and I ultimately couldn't eat it. We also ordered duck, which was very poorly prepared--flabby, not well seared and lacking that hallmark crunchy skin. We also had fried rice and baby bok choy, the latter of which was the best dish we had all evening--and it was literally just steamed baby bok choy, stock, and garlic. The fried rice we all tried and left untouched. It was dry and tasted off, and was studded with fatty pieces of very undercooked pork belly. I want to say that our service was excellent. The place was really busy, and there was a large somewhat inebriated party near us making a scene. Even so our server was unfazed, kind, and efficient. Maybe the sushi and sashimi is the move here, I don't know. We didn't order any and I later wondered if we should have. It's a bummer that a place that has kind of a fun vibe has such poor food. If you're looking for throwback '60s style Chinese dining, there are several better spots--a couple in Attleboro--that still do the little bowls of wontons for an appetizer and have maithais with little umbrellas. This restaurant is INCREDIBLE. If the weather is nice you can sit outside at a beautiful bar overlooking the city. The service is great and the ambiance inside is great. There are lots of decorations and it is fancy but you can still dress fairly casual. The food is great and they have selections for everyone in your party. Their menu has a wide variety of food you can pick from. Will definitely be returning to this place - you should too! UPDATE: had to add to this review because I took my friend back here the other night and had an amazing experience. Ian was our server and he was incredibly attentive and friendly, always checking in to see how things were going at the table and if we needed anything else. Refilled our drinks before we were even done with our first! We found Jacky's by chance when getting into Providence around dinner time during the week. It was a lovely atmosphere and the service was great. We sampled some of the sushi rolls and asian dishes. The sushi rolls were great and the house salad with ginger dressing was huge -- enough for our family of four to share. We had a ladies night during covid and this place was great. Made a last minute reservation for 830 on a Saturday night. Two of my girlfriends and I arrived and they took our temperature and then showed us to our table. We ordered drinks and apps and then ordered dinner when those arrived. Beautiful upscale sushi place next to the water! We started out with drinks. I got the lychee mojito which was delicious. My friend got the green tea martini which was not very good but our waitress (shout-out to Mackenzie) was very helpful and comped the drink and suggested many other options. We had the lettuce wraps and spring rolls as an appetizer which were pretty decent. I had the French crunchy roll which was very flavor and yummy. Jacky's aesthetic is surely luxurious, with a menu that feels small, but is rather plentiful. My first visit has set a high bar. The prices are mid-range but on par with the Waterplace area of Providence. Dining indoors seems fine, but sitting on the balcony to see the horizon of Providence is invaluable in the dining experience. Food came out slowly on a surprisingly light Friday evening, but the food was worth the wait. My party ordered Duck, Beef and Chicken with Lemongrass, and each had portions that were big enough to share. The Chicken with Lemongrass was exceptional and a star of the table, with an aroma and flavor reminiscent of curry. By portions alone, I am happy to pay the price of the dish. read more

Second time back to Jacky's, and this time did not disappoint either. I love the atmosphere and design of this restaurant. Being right next to the Providence River adds a nice waterfront view. The sushi here, in my opinion, is some the best in the city. The sushi is fresh, very well prepared, and offers a variety for you to try something new or stick with classic rolls. Our server, Mackenzie, was great! She was very helpful with the menu, and explaining the rolls we were not familiar with. Mi ni me and French crunchy were our favorites. Yummy yummy yummy!! Their sushi is some of the best I've had it's so good! The crab Rangoon is also very good! This was my second visit & I ordered the teriyaki salmon it was very good & cooked perfect. My spouse ordered the general tao chicken & shrimp he didn't love it he said the chicken taste frozen but the shrimp was good. My first visit I had the fried lobster it was very good and seasoned well, it's more sautéed then fried. Three of us met for lunch at Jacky's. We have eaten here before and enjoyed it. This time was different. Our food can only be described as lackluster. We started with an incredibly bland Nime Chow, with a watery flavorless peanut sauce. For our main courses, I had Singapore Noodles with tofu, one friend had Vegetable Pad Thai with tofu, and the other had Lemon Grass Curry with chicken. When our waiter asked us if everything was okay, we all had the same complaint: the dishes were dry and dull. Unfortunately, he had no suggestions as to what could be done beyond soy sauce? Kidding? Surely a restaurant of Jacky';s caliber can do better than that. Those three dishes, plus the appetizer (no drinks or dessert) was over $85 with tip. For a boring lunch? Service is absolutely unacceptable. My family are out of town visiting the area for my cousin's graduation. We sat down for lunch at around 1:30 PM perhaps 30 minutes before the graduation rush arrived at the restaurant. We had not seen our server until around 10-15 minutes into being seated. When the server arrived with our drinks he was missing half of them. Which never arrived until another 40-50 minutes later. We had to wait an hour for 3 appetizers to arrive. And a total of hour and 40 minutes for 5 main course dishes. I wish they could have at least redeemed themselves with a decent meal. But their steak and asparagus stir fry tasted like eating pure salt. Their battered shrimp was 70% dough. And steak was overdone. There seems to be no concern from wait staff or management for their customers as the waiter didn't bother to check up at all. The multitude of times we had gotten up to leave for us to be reassured that the food would be out soon is down right decietful. The worst dining experience of my life. Please do not waste your money and time here. To the manager: if you decide to run a restaurant in the heart of a college town I suggest you learn graduation schedules and be staffed to handle a full house. Especially during lunch and dinner rush. If not have the courtesy to inform your guests of your atrocious wait times. read more

I ordered takeout from Jacky's on a whim after having passed by the restaurant walking to the mall several times. I got the dancing eel roll the first time, then snow mountain roll. The snow mountain roll was only so-so...was small and didn't taste particularly fresh, but the dancing eel roll was really good. I would go back to get this one roll specifically. I'm docking a star because when I ordered, I requested the sauce to be left off the roll and the restaurant charged me for extra sauce on the side instead of following the instructions. The restaurant itself is pretty nice inside although I can't speak to the dine-in experience. read more

Located in the heart of downtown, Jacky's Place is a nice restaurant to visit when you're in the area. It's near the Providence Mall and the State House, which I recommend visiting. There is valet, which is complimentary with some street parking in the area available. This restaurant seems to be busy both times I have been here, but I managed to get seats right next to the window in the bar area. FOOD: Menu is decent, mix of Asian cuisines. There are items you would find in a Hibachi, Thai restaurant, Chinese restaurant, etc. Spring Rolls (1/5): This was ordered delivery. Bad mistake because what I got delivered were definitely egg rolls. I was expecting the healthy, spring rolls one would find in pho restaurants. Mr. Lonely (3/5, Spicy Shrimp, Cucumber, with Seared Pepper Tuna, served with Avocado Sauce): Fresh ingredients! I remember my first bite into the peppered tuna, delicious. However, this roll didn't really appeal to me and was lacking in some aspect. I wouldn't personally order this again. Seafood Pad Thai (3/5): This was ordered delivery. First of all, a star went up because the serving. The serving of this Pad Thai was good for 2 additional meals, and the amount of seafood was awesome. They were not stingy about that. However, it wasn't the best Pad Thai. I must say it tasted over time though... Or for my other 2 additional meals. Overall, it was mediocre and tasted better with fish sauce that was provided. Asian Pear (4/5): Great drink with a slight unique taste with a good amount of alcohol, nothing too strong. Service was great, our waiter was around enough but wasn't annoying. He also recommended a few choices of the local favorites to my friend, who was new to the area. I would recommend visiting during the summer when the water fire is available for a great view. We went to Jacky's on a Friday night with no reservation and immediately were seated. The restaurant was fairly full so I think we got lucky. There was free valet parking, but it's also within walking distance of a lot of downtown hotels/parking areas. The ambiance was really nice--darker lighting with light music. The tables were large and seating comfortable. We went after dark, but during the day/early evening I'm sure the river views are great. The hosts and waitstaff were friendly, but our particular waiter wasn't very good at providing recommendations. Only one person in our group likes sushi (but only cooked and not spicy) and they struggled to find options. Their cooked selection was very small (I'm not sure if this is normal or not as I'm not a sushi eater). There were at least 3 full pages of sushi items. The remaining menu selection was fairly extensive for it being mainly a sushi place, and everyone could find something they liked. The grilled teriyaki chicken was a bit rubbery--maybe it was over cooked or just a bad piece. The sauce was yummy and broccoli and asparagus that came with it was delicious! The sirloin steak tips were a good choice--tender and tasted great! I would definitely go back, but I wouldn't order the teriyaki chicken. If you're looking for a nice restaurant with some decent Asian food--I'd give Jacky's a shot! read more

Jacky's makes for a nice dinner setting by the waterfront if you are unable to get a reservation elsewhere. You can almost always call right before going and get a table. The atmosphere is rather business or hotel-like upon coming in, but it doesn't feel too impersonal as the waiters and hosts are accommodating and friendly, and the views of the waterfront are pleasant. The food is generally pretty satisfying and come in medium to large portions- I really like their scorpion and firecracker rolls. Also a fan of their lettuce wrapped duck and chicken appetizer and their spicy prawns kitchen entree. If you're looking to get dessert, the fried tempura green tea ice cream is a DREAM - What a perfect combination of texture and flavor. I'm not sure the quality of the food is really worth its high price, but I've always had a stress-free experience here, compared to other restaurants in the area that get easily crowded on weekend nights. Give Jacky's a go if you have family in town at the last minute, or want to spend a comfortable, yet classy evening after work. read more

Sushi was pretty good! I ordered from here because I was really craving sushi, and to my dismay, my favorite sushi place was closed. It gave me a chance to try something new though that my go-to spot doesn't offer (baby yellowtail) which ended up being one of the highlights of my meal! I decided to go adventurous today and try some nigiri I've been long wanting to try. My whole spread consisted of baby yellowtail (kampachi), salmon (sake), white tuna (mutzu), scallop (hotategai), and sweet shrimp (amaebi). All raw, all in the form of nigiri. Out of those, I had never tried hotategai or amaebi in any form, and I had never tried kampachi either although I was quite sure I'd love it as I'm a big fan of regular yellowtail (hamachi). White tuna/escolar I've only had once before from my go-to spot but I loved it. The highlights of this spread were hands down the kampachi and hotategai! I don't know why I was so scared to try raw scallops for so long-they are amazing! I love cooked scallops too, but I'm going to find it quite hard to go back now. I feared raw scallops for so long because I hated getting undercooked scallops, nothing worse than a perfectly seared outside but then the inside is raw, but those A) aren't sushi grade and B) you have flavors that are meant to work with cooked scallops and competing textures. Raw sushi grade scallops are even sweeter than the best, sweetest seared scallops you've ever had-trust me. They are the sweetest seafood I've ever tasted, and the texture is incredible, so buttery and melts in your mouth. The kampachi pretty much tastes like any other good yellowtail, perhaps a bit milder, but the difference is in the texture and mouthfeel. It's surprisingly firmer than I expected, but not in a bad way. It's not at all chewy, just has a little bit of bite to it. This, however, is offset by its amazingly rich mouthfeel. It is oily in the best sense, like a great piece of salmon or fatty tuna, and it's absolutely addictive. Usually fish that has this rich, fatty mouthfeel is very soft in texture, so it was interesting and a nice contrast to have a more firm texture combined with this incredibly rich mouthfeel, and then a lovely delicate, even slightly sweet flavor. The white tuna was good, but it wasn't as good as the white tuna from my go-to place. It was a bit firmer, the other place has it buttery smooth, almost like a really nice salmon. But it tasted good and I enjoyed it. The salmon was a bit of a disappointment. It had a very strong mineraly taste to it which I'm really not a fan of. For years I thought I disliked salmon because I kept getting salmon with this taste. I don't know it it's a specific variety of salmon or what. But then I finally tried really good salmon without any of that mineral taste and it changed my life and now salmon is one of my absolute TOP favorite sushis. A great piece of salmon melts in your mouth like fatty tuna and has no mineral notes, just a bit of sweetness and umami but mostly fatty deliciousness. This disappointed on all three points-flavor, texture, and mouthfeel (not very fatty). Lastly is the amaebi (sweet shrimp). This, among with the hotategai, were the ones I was most scared to try. Unfortunately, the amaebi went in the opposite direction of the hotategai. My biggest fear with it was the texture, but I expected the taste to be really nice. Surprisingly, the texture ended up not being an issue at all-I actually quite liked it! But the taste was not good. Maybe mine wasn't as fresh as it should be? It had VERY strong mineral notes, like the salmon but much stronger, especially on the back-end/aftertaste. It also lacked the promised sweetness and was a tad bit fishy. But that mineral flavor, I don't know exactly how to describe it, but it's like sticking your face in pond water. It's not oceanic smelling/tasting at all, it smells/tastes like freshwater actually, but in a bad way. I'd try amaebi again but only from an absolute top sushi restaurant where I can be certain I'm getting the utmost freshness and quality. Overall, this was good sushi but it was a tad bit expensive and a little underwhelming for the price. I'll stick to my go-to sushi restaurant. But it was nice to try and I might order from here again if I'm craving sushi on a day that my normal spot is closed. read more

Feels like Rhode Island and the night sky is giving you ONE BIG HUG! When your inside, you'll notice immediately how elegant and lovely it is- What I love most? Even though it's probably equipped with $10,000 lighting fixtures this place is unpretentious. Super inviting and warm. You don't feel like it's too fancy schamancy despite the location ( waterplace) Service is impeccable. The food is excellent. I notice a lot of patrons ordering basic crab ragoons or eggrolls but I feel your missing out if you're not going to try the non traditional dishes!! Reasonably priced.
