Very solid asian restaurant with a more upscale vibe. I absolutely love the decor and ambience here; it is perfect for a special occasion or a date night. I've been here many times and have tried a variety of items off the menu and I've always had a good experience. My go-tos are usually a selection of apps - nim chow, spring rolls, gyoza, crab rangoon, etc. I also really enjoy their pad thai and general tao's chicken. Sushi is good too, but I prefer sushi from elsewhere so I don't tend to order it that often from here. Prices are a little higher than you would typically pay for this type of food, but you're paying for the location in downtown and the aesthetic. They offer lunch specials which are great if you work downtown. Definitely recommend checking it out. read more

Worst Service I ever had. We didn't have plates or silverware when they brought out appetizers. Food was cold. Waitress left us for so long every time, I had to like coach her about prioritizing. Brought meals we didn't order, steaks were still on grass mooing uncooked. Drinks didn't come out for 45 mins. Overall food was a 5. Explained to manager that we didn't want discount but it was the worst service ever. She replied sorry! We all work in service, we know how hard people work. I rather have a rude person on me that knows what they are doing than a nice kook. She was awful and showed she didn't care about table. Beautiful restaurant, Valet was also awful, you do this thing with a code on your phone they give you on your bill. You think your car is coming when really you have to they show valet your phone. Oh ye we had to literally get up and go get out check. She gave us dessert menus and then never came back to take our order. She then brought a piece of chocolate for our birthday person and he doesn't eat chocolate. She also blamed everything on kitchen which was unprofessional. We had a 7:00 Reservation and checked in around 6;45. A little wait but not terrible. This was the Pinnacle of the night and i should of known at this point to leave. When it was our turn for seating the hostess escorted us to the back area. I have to say the dirty tables were overwhelming. Table after table full of dirty dishes and no one cleaning them. When we got to our table it was also dirty! The hostess was confused. We ended up being seated elsewhere. Took forever to even be greeted by the server...Table across from us was struggling to pay and get out. Honestly the service was just brutal! My girlfriend and I decided to take a weekend trip together to Providence. We ended up coming here because we wanted sushi and this was the closest location to where we were. The interior of the restaurant is very fancy and pretty to look at. The bathroom is very close to the kitchen so you will see the waiters there if you don't know where you going. We ordered calamari, sushi, and dessert. The sushi was a little bland, the calamari was really good. My favorite though must been the dessert because it tasted very sweet with fruity taste behind it. I sadly don't remember the name of it but I do have pictures haha. It is a nice place to talk and eat with someone. The service was very good because my cup is never empty. I barely finish half the water and it's already full in about 10 minutes. Overview: It's a nice experience for a weekend trip, but I would not come here daily. I've been hearing about Jackys since I first moved to Providence in 2016. We happened to be walking around downtown on a beautiful day a bit after lunch time on a Saturday. It was nice and quiet so we got decent service and ordered appetizers and some sushi. The best thing I ate: Roasted Peking Duck from their warm entrees. It comes with a little wrap, cucumbers and scallions (I think) - with a nice dark sauce. It was DELISH. Probably would come back just for that. The rest: we also ordered shrimp nime chow- they're not the best I've had but they were fresh! The peanut sauce could have been more flavorful. We both ordered sushi- very fresh and good but nothing enough to give it a 5 star rating. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I came here for late lunch, so can't imagine how it is when it is busy. And since everything was just decent. read more

Located very conveniently for staters in the downtown area. We actually were able to spot the restaurant from our hotel room thus recommended by friends. Got there earlier than reserved and it was very busy as it was labor day weekend Sunday. We were told to wait and my wife and decided to catch a drink at the bar. The bartender was extremely busy and kind of put his hand I. My face but layer on, he apologized the way he acted in which was understandable with the business. Got to the table in 15 minutes to a semi private room. The other party family of 10 were already complaining no food, no re-fill water and just frustrating. When we got our water I offered as courteously but they laughed it off. Food ordering was smooth also kids were happy with the order. However my wife and I ordered steamed whole fish which was clearly marked on the menu and the waitress said, "Great Choice. One of my favorites!". At that point, I thought we were I good hands. Due to fact that it was holiday weekend, they were short staffed. When our main came, it was totally different menu than we ordered. Until than the nice waitress all if a sudden says, "this is the only whole fish menu we have.". We asked her to call the manager in which never came but 30 minutes later, our ordered menu came. Clearly she was lying and our night was ruined by her service. If it was an honest mistake or truth, I would've let go. But she also added as an excuse, "We just changed the menu last week and menu has not been updated." If do, that should have been mentioned in the beginning. Finally, I wanted some soup to end the meal. I Wayne for the waitress and she just brought the check mentioning our last complaint was last order. Never did she she ask if we had anything for last order. I requested if possible for egg drop soup, and she replied , the kitchen may have already thrown out the soups. Understandable but did not even try and finally brought a wonton soup in which she said chefs "specially made it just for you". The wonton was devastatingly rotten and soup was cold. By this time, had no stench that to argue. Anyway, some of the food was good but overall experience, can't trust and will be on bottom of the list if hungry. read more

Came from north of Boston to try Jacky's and see WaterFire. Brought the family and had a round of drinks. Drinks were average at best, small and okay. Have had better. Some got a "Zombie" and it tasted and looked like the same stuff that was in the Scorpion Bowl. Hendricks and tonic was not very impressive either. Small amount of Hendricks and over filled with tonic water. Apps were okay. Got some sushi, sashimi, edamame and some vegetable tempura. Good portions and quality. For dinner we had Chicken Pad Thai, two beef dishes and orange chicken and shrimp. Portions were good, not much flavor for the orange chicken/shrimp and my Pad Thai was horrible. All noodles, no veggies (even the base that go in Pad Thai EVERYWHERE) and the chicken was over cooked. Waitress was good but had tables in different sections of the restaurant which made it difficult to be attentive. Place was modern and jumping, but very hot inside, even with ac on. Wasn't impressed and will not make the drive back for food here. WaterFire was different and good to take in once. Find another place that is off the beaten path that focuses on better food and drinks. read more

I'm so disappointed in this place. We went for a date night, and we were ignored by our waiter for 30 minutes, it took over an hour to get our drinks. The waitress forgot to put in one of our orders and never told us about the last call. We spent 2.5 hours there with mediocre food and horrible service. They truly ruined our date night. The valet then charged our credit card $16 for service that was free to customers dining in. This is overall THE worst restaurant I have had the displeasure of dining in Providence. They also charge $10 for each piece of tuna belly sushi. Needless to say I will not be back here. read more

I went here on a Monday with 2 other friends. I have to say, the service and food was amazing! Right when I walked in, I was greeted by a host. Awesome! I said I wanted to hangout at the sushi bar. Host let us choose the seats! The sushi was really, like really good! The chef stayed professional (wearing hats, gloves, and the style he made the sushi!) The dine in experience was awesome too! The lo mein was really tasty! The server was always attentive and checking in. I recommended trying the chicken teriyaki, it was the best piece of chicken I had! Loved the texture. The best part was definitely the sushi. We ordered a bunch of sushi (don't remember the names) and all came out fresh and tasty. We paid the bill, left our tips and it was time to walk out. Wow, this place was great!!!! First we stared with awesome martinis, then move on to great apps, and food. The dumplings and sushi pizza were to die for. Beef loc lac appetizer was incredible. I really like this place but I haven't been to this location in a while. The decor inside is very nice with a large fish tank right as you walk in. They have an outdoor area overlooking Waterplace park, great spot to view the water fires. The food was great , however we waited over an hour to receive our food and we ordered two sushi rolls and some fried rice. We went on a Monday evening so it was not very busy. I've been here before and haven't had an issue with waiting for food to arrive. Overall I would still go back, I love their sushi rolls, fried rice and pad Thai. read more

I have been here a few times now as this has become my go to for chinese and when I am jonesin for sushi. The atmosphere is pretty chic but the crowd is elegant yet relaxed. The food is consistently good and the prices can't be beat. The summer rolls are amazing, I am addicted to their walnut shrimp for appetizer and kind of in love with the fact that they have 3 portion sizes of Peking duck, one of my favs. The noodle dishes are huge, and a favorite of mine is the lettuce wraps. You can legit eat these for a meal with your choice of chicken, duck, shrimp. Good stuff. The sushi is also on point. I haven't had a bad sushi experience here at all. From the uni to the toro, the boat and the special rolls, again, everything is pretty fresh and consistent. I also have had a good run with the nigiri and never had anything bad to say. While the place offers great atmosphere, they lack in knowledgeable wait staff. This is the kind of place that you bring someone out to as the view and restaurant is absolutely gorgeous. There is a wait so be sure to make reservations. The dishes come with eye-catching presentation but I don't think the price point is greatly fulfilled by the actual food quality. The server we had was not very helpful in helping us select dishes, I did not feel that the server went out of her way to assist us on the menu. We didn't feel that the server has a genuine interest in our first experience which left a bad taste in our mouth. As far as the food, it was more presentation that taste. Some of the slices of fish were not cold enough and felt warm (snapper to be exact). This place is great for first-timers in the sushi world, but if you're looking for a great food experience, there are much better offerings that I have had around the area. read more

Visited 07/04/19 This place was right around the corner from where we were staying. The reviews were good, so why not. Although we had reservations, we still had to wait 15 (at the bar) to be seated. This place was packed, although once seated, everything went well. I do have to applaud the female bartender though. She worked alone mixing up drinks for the bar, a bunch of tables around the bar as well as the drink orders from the waitresses serving in the restaurant. You could tell she was a little miffed that she had no help, and I could see why. She really hustled keeping everyone happy running around the bar to the tables around the bar. She deserves a raise for sure. But back to the menu... I had one of their lettuce wraps (with duck) as an appetizer, while my wife had the soft shell crab. I enjoyed my wrap very much... but frankly although good, we've had better soft shell crab. My wife had the 'Tricolor' roll, while I had the 'French Crunchy'. Not sure why they named it "French Crunchy'... but it was pretty good, as was my wife's 'Tricolor.' The service was very friendly and prompt, considering the size of the place and how busy it was. Everyone was moving around at a good pace trying their best to keep the customer's happy. Could they use more wait staff besides another bartender...? Maybe. Both their physical menu that was provided to us at the restaurant and their online menu have it listed at $18 but we were charged $25. It would have been nice for them to honor the $18 price that they have listed to their customers, especially since at $25 we would not have ordered it, but they did not. Dinner at Jacky's Waterplace was a great experience. I chose to eat here based on previous reviews and proximity to WaterFire. Being an out-of-towner from New York, I think I picked a good spot. Jackys offers trendy ambiance with upscale service without upscale prices and the need to "dress-up". My reservation was easily made and my wife and I were seated right on time. The drinks were excellent and pretty comparable to NYC prices. Our coconut shrimp appetizer was fresh and delicious. There were a lot of options on the menu but I ultimately went with the pad Thai (which for $15, was amazing - the leftovers fed me for two additional meals). I kind of wish I ordered sushi but I just didn't have enough room. Maybe next time if I visit Providence again! read more

To say I am all set with Jacky's is an understatement. I've been here a few times and every time it's been a sub par experience at best. The location definitely saves this place because the service and food it borderline decent. We went here last night as we had reservations for 8:00 pm. We pulled into the valet circle and waited on our car for 2, maybe 3 minutes. I observed 2 valet employees just standing at their station outside the front door. I got out of my car and that's when one of them finally came over to my car. The valet apologized and said they are not taking anymore cars tonight. I was like, excuse me?? I told him we have reservations to eat here for 8:00 and he apologized again but said they have no more room. I was not getting frustrated as we drove down from Bristol and I told him I refuse to go pay to park somewhere to eat here. He told me to wait a minute while he gored and talks to the lot manager. He came back and he said that the lot manager told him they can't take anymore cars. So now my blood is boiling. I told him that if that's the case, put a sign up saying no more valet for the night so customers aren't pulling in. It's not cool that customers pull in under the assumption that valet will be available when it's not. It seemed to me that Jacky's did not care if they were accommodating their customers or not with the valet parking issue. We will not be returning here as this was the straw that broke the camel's back. No one should have to go and pay to park elsewhere to eat dinner at a restaurant! read more

I try to avoid eating at restaurants that engage in wage theft (their 2016 settlement is well known), and that's the main reason why I've lived in Providence for nearly 5 years without eating here. Sometimes it can't be helped. Had an unavoidable work lunch here. Service was great. Decor is dated - it was definitely cool in the early 00s and has not been refreshed since then. I am not by any stretch of the imagination a seafood aficionado, but this sushi didn't taste all that great, and it's expensive despite that. Over priced and over rated. If you're easily impressed with a nice location and glitzy decor, perhaps you can overlook the mediocre food. The sushi chefs are more focused on presentation (which is outstanding) than putting together a well balanced and innovative selection. I began with the Jalapeño Hamachi. This may have been one of the better dishes. Good presentation but not very inspired. A small rolled piece of fish with a slice of jalapeño, sprouts and flower. Very pretty but not enough hamachi to offset the strong sauce that they paired it with. Followed by Tako, Eel and Toro which was unremarkable. I'm not sure when it became fashionable to pair uni with an overpowering green but it seems driven by aesthetics. Tony Bourdain calls sea urchin the best thing that I've ever put in my mouth. I tend to agree with him but this green totally overwhelms the subtle flavor of the fish. Finished with ocha which surprisingly came as a tea bag. With these prices, you could probably afford to brew a nice batch of green tea and serve it in a kettle. If you looking for overpriced, overhyped and a underwhelming experience, Jacky's is your place. read more

Summary, I truly did enjoy my time here and I am glad that I tried it. 5 stars for Location, Parking, View, Ambiance, Service: Location - downtown Providence, easy to find and easy to walk to from the capital building, the mall, train etc. Parking - complimentary valet parking. They were true gentleman with HUSTLE! Tip them well if you take advantage of this service because they RUN. View - Great view of the river - would be amazing to see Waterfire from one of the window seats or the balcony ledge tables. Ambiance - Elegant and beautiful colors and lighting. The servers welcomed us as we walked past them to get to our table. The servers for our table of 4 were fast and efficient as was the kitchen...the food came out fast! But a little too fast, my soup was still HOT when the other food started to come out. We never had to crane to look for service; they were attentive and visible anticipating every need. Our water glasses never were less than half full. The owner or floor manager came by a couple of times and also was there to wish us well for the evening. She was sweet. I had the standards, Pork Lo Mein, it was a large portion and it was perfectly cooked. Great flavor, well balanced with the perfect amount ingredients and NOT too greasy. The chicken fried rice was perfect in my opinion - moist, with tender chicken, some egg and interestingly...chunks of asparagus to add a decent crunch. The sesame chicken was nice. It was made with tender boneless chicken strips that were well trimmed, no grizzle. The Peking duck that my friend had was crispy and juicy - glad he let me steal a piece :) Some of the detractors: Pomegranate Martini - STRONG...too strong...thus taking away some star power for this place. Tasted a bit like cough syrup. A few ice cubes helped mellow it a bit. Vegetable tempura was bland, but the sauce that came with it made it delicious. The pineapple fried rice was presented in such a beautiful way with the top of the pineapple. However the sour pineapple took away from the dish and there wasn't any soy or salt and pepper at the table to help it along. The prices were a bit high for the quality of food, however, for the entire experience, the prices are appropriate. Meaning, if I were to get take out, the prices would be too much for "ok" food. This is really the perfect place for a special occasion. I'd been to other Jacky's before, but none as grand as this! My boyfriend took me for Valentine's Day and it was a lovely evening. We overestimated traffic and arrived super early for our reservation, but they were able to seat us right away! We were so glad because we were starving after a long day at work. The inside is beautiful and there's a view of the city from pretty much every table. The space isn't huge but they utilize it so well that you'd never know. They have a beautiful saltwater fish tank at the entrance, and glass enclosures across the whole restaurant that have trees and plants inside. It's super cool without being too tacky. Our server was very formal and hands-off, but also efficient and pleasant. Some of the other servers were much more warm, friendly and bubbly, but I don't always need that to have an awesome experience. For Valentine's Day they offered a pre fixe menu for $35 each, so of course we jumped right on that. It included an appetizer, entree and dessert. They also had a list of special cocktails, but most sounded sweet or chocolate-y, so I chose to just go with a glass of pinot grigio since that goes much better with a sushi dinner. My yellowtail jalapeño appetizer was superb. The sauce was light and flavorful, had just the right amount of kick, and the tuna was SO fresh and tender. I was embarrassed at how quickly I cleared off the plate. My boyfriend got the spring rolls, which were nice and crispy but otherwise nothing spectacular. They were really good dipped in my spicy sauce though! For dinner I ordered the cupid's love special which featured a shrimp tempura roll with tuna and salmon on the outside shaped in a heart, a rosebud made of tuna, and several chef's choice cuts of fresh fish. My boyfriend ordered the sushi regular dinner, which had a variety of chef's choice cuts with a tuna roll. The platings were both beautiful and everything was cold and fresh. There was not a single bite that wasn't fresh and delicious. We were especially impressed by the quality of the tuna! We decided to share one of each of the special desserts for the evening, which were chocolate hearts with gelato inside. The red chocolate heart had vanilla gelato inside, and the dessert was very sweet and light. The dark chocolate heart was much more rich and had a creamy chocolate gelato inside. This place was just, wowsers! Beautiful decor, the kind of decor that makes you shudder about the prices, which actually isn't that overpriced if you plan on coming here for dinner. But in any case, decor is nothing when it boils down to service and the food. I came here with a friend and we managed to share our order, she ordered the pad thai and I had ordered sushi. As far as portions goes I have to say it was right on point, they didn't overload you with too much, while at the same time they weren't being stingy either. The pad thai has made me a fan really, it wasn't greasy nor did my noodles stick together. (which is the worst!) The dragon roll came with 16 pieces (I want to say?), it was really filling and probably one of the better sushi presentations I have seen. The service we had wasn't something to write home about, at least it wasn't bad. I did ask the waitress what drinks she would recommend and she suggested a Lychee Martini, which had just the right amount of sweet (it wasn't really a sweet drink), and intensity for my liking. I would come back here and order something else on their drink menu, they had really nice options here. I had a graduation dinner here and the host didn't show us to our table, she said "it's the room in the back" ok but there's so many tables set up it would've been kind of her to show us where especially with the amount we spent on dinner. Overpriced Chinese food, could've gone to Boston for food with more taste and for a cheaper price. My dad however loves eating here.
