I was introduced to the cantaloupe martini at Jade bar about 10 years ago and fell in-love! I've been unable to find anything like it anywhere else. Now that I've moved to Phoenix area I like bringing my out of towners to this spot. The view of the city and mountains are pretty amazing from Jade bar! I also try going when Angela Ferrari is singing. The group usually sings a variety of songs from modern pop to 80s hits. My last visit was a bit disappointing. I brought a couple friends who were visiting and have never been to AZ. We drove about half an hour specifically to come to Jade bar. The restaurant and bar were not really busy. We were often trying to find our server who was horrible at checking on us. We ordered a few different drinks including THE Cantaloupe martini. They were all pretty bad. The cantaloupe tasted like grapefruit (I hate grapefruit!). I realized they must've put old lime (I've done this before at home and learned my lesson - just toss the lime out!). I asked the server to remake it without lime. It tasted much better but still not right. Maybe the bartenders need to do a little taste test before they open. I was a bit embarrassed bringing my friends this time. Maybe it was my fault for trying to hype this place up on our way there. Delicious drinks and a great bar menu. The staff was very flexible in letting us order dinner off the menu - the calamari smelled delicious but we opted for 1 burger and 1 turkey burger - both great! An absolute amazing view for my short commute to the north side of Camelback, I spent the evening overlooking the sparkling lights of Scottsdale and Paradise Valley. The atmosphere and decor are pleasant and what I would expect when paying for such expensive drinks (though they are worth every penny). I sipped the Moscow Mule and a few Old Fashions while listening to old-rich persons problems as I was the youngest person there...by far. I'd agree with many of the other reviews of this place, the bartenders are too BRO-ish and over confident. They are annoyingly fast and untalkative. Go here for refinement, probably not experimentation [but maybe]. Great cocktails, impeccable service. Our waiter noticed my girlfriend knew her beverage stuff, and offered to send their bartender out to tell us more. After chatting for five minutes, the bartender then offered to make us a 'Ramos Gin Fizz' - a vintage [and off menu] drink that takes 15 minutes to shake - because it was a slow night. Need I say more? If you insist. It was delicious, and having been told the interesting history of the drink, it was all the more an experience. I wouldn't count on this happening to you, but the general sentiment of attention to detail and sincerity of service are not variables in this equation. And of that equation, expect a large number after the dollar sign. read more

After talking to a number of bartenders in the area -- and doing some fairly extensive personal research -- I feel pretty comfortable saying that if you want the best cocktails in the Phoenix area, you should head to the Jade Bar at the Sanctuary Resort. This is off the beaten path a bit, and after a few miles down streets with no street lights, it felt a bit like driving to a ski lodge up in the mountains. It's worth the drive though. I had two excellent cocktails ("The Last Word" and a "Pendemums Club"), and one enjoyable and informative conversation with Jillian the bartender. Just wanted to add my own experience to the glowing reviews. We came here for the "happy hour", aka The Pour at Jade, from 4PM-6PM. A very nice selection of drinks for $6, and a selection of appetizers also for $6 each. We shared the chicken quesadilla and the homemade potato chips. BIG plates of each, couldn't even finish the quesadilla, brought home 2 of the slices for the next day, and it was yummy - even came with a nice sized side of guacamole. As said in other reviews, lovely atmosphere, not a loud boisterous crowd - could actually TALK there. Beautiful view of the mountains north of us on the patio, and lovely grounds to walk on. Staff we met on our stroll were very friendly and courteous, not snobby as we thought they might be. It IS a small bar/patio - might be best to go on a weeknight. Free valet parking - well, you really SHOULD give a nice tip to the valet! The afternoon we went, the crowd was, from what we could tell in the Jade, Spring Training guests and also locals, judging by the cars we saw in the lot. First of all, we used to frequent this place for the amazing martini list and awesome views. The service, food and drinks were always amazing. My friend and I came here on May 2 to enjoy a relaxing massage at the spa. The spa was amazing and so was the staff at the spa. My massage therapist was very sweet. I told my friend that the restaurant and bar was amazing but apparently it has changed over the years. We then decided to have a cocktail by the Infinity Pool and a few appetizers. The staff was rude. Our waitress was condescending and acted like she wanted to yell at us. We weren't sure why she was acting this way. She had a very nervous and angry personality towards us. We were trying to have a nice time but her attitude destroyed our experience. We asked her for our check and went upstairs to the Jade bar where we thought we would get better service. When we sat down at the Jade bar we were greeted by an older male waiter with glasses who was again very rude and not welcoming at all. I asked if there was a martini list, he said very sternly to me "We have never had a martini list here." I know they used to have a martini list because I've seen it many times. His comment was unnecessary. I told him the martini list had the "cantaloupe martini" on it. He said "that's our house martini, it's not on the menu, everyone knows that". My friend and I were shocked at this point and confused as to why we were being treated so harshly. I got the cantaloupe martini and it had a bug floating in it. I didn't tell the waiter because he seemed like he would yell at me if I told him, so I just removed the lovely insect myself. My friend ordered a Bloody Mary and it was the worst Bloody Mary either of us have ever tasted. We weren't even being picky at this point. We were scared to tell the waiter because the negative and angry energy he portrayed. We ordered two salads and fries, but by this time we wanted to leave. We barely ate. We paid our bill and left. I cannot believe the way we were treated here. It has always been a great experience but the service was extremely terrible and upsetting. I don't think I will be back for a long time. I am so embarrassed to have bragged about the restaurant and bar to my best friend and this is what happened to us. Extremely unnecessary and disgusting. read more

We enjoy this bar every time we stay at Sanctuary. The setting is gorgeous, the food is terrific and a great value for the price and the live music is great. Service is always very good. We stopped by the Jade bar with high hopes shortly after arriving. We were greeted and told we could sit where we liked . After 5 minutes another couple came in and sat and immediately a server brought them water and took their orders. We waited a bit longer and then went to sit at the bar where immediately were waited on by the server that waited on the second couple. She made some great drinks and even comped them but so disappointed for my celebratory stay to be tainted by such disregard. read more

After almost a year since my first trip to Jade Bar, I returned before dining at Elements. This time my husband and I brought my in-laws on their last night in Phoenix. Jade Bar did not disappoint. Our server was incredibly friendly and even went searching for a fourth chair so that no one in our group had to stand. We all stuck to pretty basic drinks, but man, were the mixed drinks STRONG. I think there was just enough coke in my rum and coke to give the drink color. 4 drinks totaled $41. Jade Bar is a nice pre-dinner spot or just a good place to relax while enjoying the views. read more

Less posh than I thought it would be, which is actually a good thing. It was inviting, not pretentious. The music inside was just quiet enough that my BFF and could talk, but just loud enough to drown out the awful band playing outside. The drinks were awesome. Mixed very, very well. And the food. Ok. Great place to mingle with more sophisticated people than who you'd usually find in the area. Jade bar does a great job with interesting cocktails and I've tried some things here that are definitely outside the box and really liked. They make a drink called the Fiery Mandarin that is vodka, lemon juice, cranberry juice, jalapeno, and orange zest. I've been making it at home it's so good. Their bartender wins just about every award in the book for cocktails. Great view on the patio, awesome happy hour, and an awesome vibe. Went here on a Thursday evening JUST in the nick of time to snag a Mojito at special HH pricing! So glad I went w/this choice - quite possibly it was THE best Mojito yet. Not too sugary-sweet and very generous w/their leafy mint leaves that I could stab/muddle w/my straw. They have that recipe down to a science, I decided. Okay so I ordered another couple, despite being after 6pm HH deadline. I don't regret it. It was worth it. ;) Ordered the spicy Calamari - soooo delish! Tried a few of the edamame - again, quite possibly the best I've ever tried! Service was on top of their game as well. Gorgeous/zen-like resort. Jade Bar located in the Sanctuary Hotel in Paradise Valley was perfect for an afternoon drink. It's a nice hideaway that I think many locals frequent. It wasn't very busy. There were maybe a total of six people enjoying a mid-afternoon drink. They had a wide selection from beer to Pimm's Cup to Peach Bellini. There is something for everyone. I ordered the Peach Bellini, which was a perfect balance of champagne and peach puree. My friends were raving about the fresh homemade chips and onion dip. I didn't understand the hype on the dip but I was happy just snacking on the chips. We had a great view of the outside lawn area where a wedding party taking photos. The grounds were so beautiful; I can understand why they were willing to stand in 90+ degree temps wearing full suits, suspenders and all. Ken, our server, was very attentive and personable. He was even patient when we asked him to split our check four ways (yikes, we were those people). I can see how this place can add up after two or three drinks but if you're looking for a low-key drink in a gorgeous setting, Jade Bar is your spot. Cheers! read more

Go for happy hour. This place can not be missed Monday-Thursday from 4-6. During that time you cane try some of their lovey cocktails and gorgeous view for a great price. The food is good. I FINALLY was able to make it to the jade bar and its such a cute bar with a beautiful scenery!! I came for the bar brawl which was a lot of fun. Thank GOODNESS they finally started a HH! It was getting insane to pay $18/martini - esp. in a group - and we were always paying! This is the BEST little bar to start - or end - an perfect eve. Want a fantastic & romantic sunset? Presto! This is it. Talk about "impress your passenger" with the amzaing drive up - they will wonder what you are "UP" to. Valet is there in an instant to meet your needs. I like walking down the steps, but instead of walking straight in, I detour to the right, which offers the pristine views. You also can provide the option of "shall we sit out here, or in?" The place is really small & intimate - in and out - so be prepared for that, as it can be quite popular. This bar has one of the best views in the city. It is great for watching the night lights over Paradise Valley. They have a great selection of alcohol here, and the bartenders are very talented and well trained. There is indoor and outdoor seating available. It does sometimes get a little crowded, but it is usually steady and not too crazy in my experience. If you get chilly sitting outside, they have outdoor heaters that they will happily turn on for you if you request. The decor here is very lovely. You do have to valet park though. Have fun! Congrats on being named CNN's One of the World's 30 Best Hotel Bars!!! I have always loved this place with its Asian/Modern feel but is still laid back and romantic. Has outstanding views of Paradise Valley and the extremely knowledgeable bartenders are refreshing. While yes they are expensive they do use high quality alcohol and fresh ingredients. There is no doubt this is the finest bar in Arizona and can't wait to go back there again this winter as is always one of my stops in the Valley. read more

Fantastic drinks, friendly crowd, bar staff who bear slight resemblances to people on TV (Yes, bartender who looks like a young brunette Jesse Spencer from House, I *would* like another raspberry mojito. Yes, guy who is a funny, nice, witty version of Spencer from The Hills, I *would* like to order some food.). This place was listed as THE place to go to for happy hour, as well as the place to witness the sun setting...I was in the neighborhood, so I dropped on by and plopped myself at the bar to bear witness to this crazy event called the sunset, and amused myself with a basketball and a hockey game in between. The raspberry mojitos were my drink of choice- the bartender strains the mint and raspberry seeds so they don't get stuck in your teeth- how smart! It's already been said by other Yelpers- this place has a gorgeous perch up on the side of Camelback Mountain overlooking the valley so it's ideal for just relaxing and enjoying the surroundings. Elements, the restaurant, and Jade Bar are both pretty pricey..but I came at happy hour (4-6pm) where the drinks and bar snacks are $6. Bar food (i.e. quesadilla, the food that's really hard to mess up so I got it) is only fair, but the drinks are very tasty. I'm sure the food at Elements is a bit fancier but I did not partake. Valet parking is free when you're visiting the restaurant- very convenient, considering I drove right on by the self parking area that was further down the mountain (considering it was 95 degrees out, I decided not to climb uphill). BTW, Molton Brown soap & lotion are in the bathroom...swanky. There was a live cover band playing, which was very fun, and the small intimate bar with funny bartenders made the afternoon/evening stop very fun. Random couple at the bar that I chatted with and who picked up my entire tab without me knowing...how cool are you guys?!? You both were so friendly to talk to and urged me to stay to watch the sunset despite the fact that I couldn't possible eat or drink anymore to hold my place at the bar...you're the very people that make traveling alone not so scary. I would suggest grabbing a glass of champagne, sitting out on their patio and just taking in all the beautiful scenery. This is a tough review to write because this place was all over the board. The hostess was a snooty bee-atch, the tables were so dirty in the bar and patio that we couldn't sit down, and we were told that we couldn't have a "bar-size" table on the terrace unless we ordered lunch (went there because patio tables were dirty and waiter said he was fine with it, but snooty hostess said no after nice waiter said yes!). But after said bee-atch cleared table on the patio, we had spectacular drinks and service!! The basil grapefruit drink is something I dream about!! YUUUUUUUMMMM!!!! We told our fabulous waiter, Robbie, that we loved Chef Beau, and a few minutes later, there was Beau shaking our hands! Awesome! More patio tables are needed in shade. Beautifully appointed bar with one of the best views in the Valley, rivaling the Wrigley Mansion. The drinks are large and potent - nothing watered down here. Keep that in mind when you see the drink prices. You're paying for a lot more liquor! Good service and always an interesting crowd, including but certainly not limited to guests of the Sanctuary Resort. An impressive place to bring a date that's off the beaten Scottsdale path. Although I live in Phoenix, I stay at Sanctuary at least once a year for a business event with three dozen others, and we rarely venture off-property for drinks during that week because we enjoy Jade Bar so much. read more
