The soup routinely has the consistency of phlegm and the taste is off. I have eaten at scores of Chinese places and this is the only place where the carrots and celery are NOT cut julienne in Szechuan Beef. That really annoys me. Chinese in Richmond is always a finicky thing; usually we go to Peter Chengs if we really want it. But, I wasn't trying to go that far out, so I took the risk and ordered from Jades. I ordered Kung Pao and a soup for delivery; the person answering the phone informed me it would be about 90 minutes for delivery. No problem, I'll come pick it up. When I arrived, there was literally NO ONE in the restaurant at 8:00 pm on a Friday. Staff on their phones. Not a good sign, and if they weren't busy, why couldn't another person be driving? Kung pao had zero flavor. It's supposed to be a spicy, peanut-y flavor, and there was nothing. Tons of water chestnuts and celery rather than chicken and peanuts, usually an indicator of filler to beef up the portion sizes. Soup had a weird metallic flavor to it? Very strange tasting soup. I am not one to usually review, but it was that bad. I doubt I'd ever go back. It was worth a shot, but I would have been better off going to a Panda Express. read more

This is the worst restaurant I have ever experienced. Worst costumer service, they laugh at you, call you ridiculous, make fun of you over the phone, put you on speaker for everyone to hear. Placed my order at 6:07pm, for delivery. Was told that it would be in the next 50 minutes. I called at 7:15pm to question the status of my order. Was told there was a fifteen minute wait. I asked for a refund and they said only if they cancel the order entirely even after I had to wait an hour and 20 minutes the delivery woman finally arrived who was very sweet and apologetic and told me that she was trying to come to my address first but was told by the owner to go to a house with a smaller order first. The owners daughter was very rude and laughed at me on the phone, I had a fifty dollar order. The owners daughter also told me that she was going to not bring the food to my house after keeping me in the phone for 17 minutes. I also told her I would never be returning after being a loyal customer of four years. The vegetable delight was undercooked and there was a hair in my fried rice. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED AND UPSET ABOUT THIS. Will never be returning. What a disgrace. Would rate it 0 stars if I could. read more

Food was mediocre at best. Dishes were cooked properly but nothing but bare basic dishes. Example. Sweet and sour pork, cooked well sauce on side.. Descent. Had 1 cherry and 1 pineapple piece. That was all.... Fried Rice overly dry and nothing in it for flavor. Not recommended for lunch. read more

Check food for hair! Server cursed at me in front of my 94 yr. old grandmother. - Found hair in two of the plates we ordered. They gave half off of one plate. When the saw the hair on the second plate they came back and said it was not their's, insinuating it belonged to one of us. Due to this we did not leave a tip. Our server followed us out of the door to ask for a tip. I told him we were not leaving one due to blaming the hair strands on us he said "Fuck You" and ran back inside. They don't have to worry about us coming back. They are lucky we are to classy to make a scene in front of the customers that were there. read more

Well When I got my food the meat was raw and orange. It looked rancid and undercooked. It tasted like a sewage plant. They WOULD NOT refund me my money and would only offer me a food credit even though my food was unedible. The service from the managing staff was terrible: they were rude and uncompromising. I walked away 9 dollars short and without lunch. I guess it's okay to take people's money without giving them a quality product. This place has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Our two dinners we did takeout for were both wrong and we were told by a nice guy on the phone they would be replaced. I called a couple of days later to reorder and the manager said "we decided you would get a $10 credit" after we were were told both meals would be replaced. When I went back in, the manager and (different) person working the counter were extremely rude as I calmly stated they did not treat customers well. I called the next day and asked to speak to the owner as a courtesy to inform him of how his staff treats customers, as we once owned a restaurant ourselves. Ate there today with my mother, sister, &niece. My mother and my niece both found a hair in their rice. When the waiter was informed, he did not summon a manager but removed the hair and dropped it on the floor to destroy the evidence. He then accused us of placing hair in the rice. When we complained that the hair was in the rice, he offered to take half off on one plate only. After paying, the waiter came outside to ask for a tip and we told him that we weren't leaving one due to the poor service and accusations made to us. He then said "FUCK YOU", in front of my 94 y/o mother as he went back inside. The food here is quite good. The problem is the customer service... specifically concerning delivery. The context here is important. I have ordered delivery from Jade for nearly a decade. About three years ago, they started talking about an additional $5 fee for delivery to me, because, according to ONE route to get here, my address falls one tenth of a mile outside of their delivery zone. But yet, other times I have ordered, they say nothing at all about it, or even tell me "oh, don't worry, we found a shorter route." I tip 18-20% on orders of $35-$40 each time I order, which is a few times each month. It also takes them over an HOUR most times that I order, but they still get tipped highly. Well, finally it happened. They finally got rude with me over a $5 extra fee that I have never had to pay. So now, instead of getting $100-150 of my hard earned money every month on food orders, I guess they are more interested in getting ZERO from me from here on out. All over a highly suspect $15 a month in fees they want to charge me. Way to make good business decisions! Do the math. You just failed to make money. Not only that, but you have lost a customer (decade long) who will make sure that every one of his local friends hears about this nonsense. read more

I used to love this place, I've spent a lot of money at this place, ordered often, today was no exception. Called to place three orders, the person taking my order repeated the order back to me and said Kung Pao Chicken for one of the orders I stopped and said no Kung Pao Shrimp, she said oh sorry I wrote down Kung Pao Shrimp, I said please make sure it's shrimp because my daughter is a vegetarian and does not eat chicken. Received the food, my daughter opened the container and said I think this chicken, I proceeded to taste the food and it was indeed chicken. I called Jade back they said they would replace the chicken with shrimp, but I would need to return the chicken, you mean the chicken I just tasted to make sure it wasn't shrimp, the response was YES. I've never heard of such a thing! Very disappointing. The owner made it seem like it was my fault, she was unapologetic, she was more concerned about get the Kung Pao Chicken back instead of satisfying a loyal customer who brings lots of business into the restaurant. read more

Worst Chinese I've ever eaten. Gave it a try a couple times but these last entrees of Chicken cashew and Singapore Mei Fun was the worst. Mei Fun had no taste. The food here never disappoints. Not to be insensitive but I go here because I know what I'm eating, the chicken looks like chicken and the beef looks like beef. The shrimp is a good size and it doesn't leave you feeling bloated or with a head ache. The vegetables are steamed to perfection. What a gem. I am always looking for that Cantonese Chinese food taste I grew up on in New England and can never find it. This was close. :) The place is adorable - very clean with unique decor - not typical tacky knick-knacks everywhere. Above the tables are beautiful clear different shaped glass vases hanging from fishing line with intermittent origami placed inside. Interesting "feng shui" with wine bottles and sparse decor. White table cloths add a nice feel.But its not only for dressing up and going on an date. I was very comfortable dining alone and in jeans. Other diners were just plain folks in rural work clothes. Prices are extremely reasonable $1.75 for wonton soup! I brought my computer and work to do, and my very sweet waitress pulled a chair beside my small table because she was concerned that I have enough room to spread out my stuff! Tempura shrimp was delicious. Wonton Soup - yummy Beef with snow peas was very good. Nice wine list for a Chinese restaurant too. Will definitely return. I ordered the Beef and Asparagus with fried rice and Crab Rangoon. I did not receive any condiments including sauce for the Crab Rangoon. This was the first time we tried this restaurant since our go to Chinese restaurant in Ashland closed their doors last week. We were going to eat in, but arriving at 6PM, we thought there would be other diners present. The place was empty. Anyway, we decided to do a take out order and it was ready in the stated amount of time. This was about 20 to 30 minutes. By this time at 630, the place started to fill up. We took the food home and using our old restaurant as a measurement, the food was really good. Only complaint was that my Lo Mein noodles were dried out and under cooked. Everything else was fine. Just hope that my order wasn't sitting out waiting for the rest of the order. I will tell them when I return. I will go back again to try their other dishes. I can say it is the cleanest Chinese restaurant that I have visited recently with the exception of Fat Dragon. THIS PLACE IS THE BEST, bar none. read more

This is by far the best Chinese food I have ever had. My usual order is the orange chicken and egg drop soup. The chicken is so flavorful and juicy, and comes in large portions. I have also had the sweet and sour chicken, and the chicken lo mein, all of which were excellent. With many restaurants the lo mein is very dry, but here it is not. The only complaint I would have is that the rice is a tad dry. However the food is good, and family who runs it are wonderful people, and the prices are good!! read more

The dishes are inconsistent. When they are good, they are worthy of a recommendation. Other times, the dishes are marginal and occasionally they are bad. The biggest problem for me is that when they are bad, there is no remedy. Perhaps, they are too focused on the bottom line, but they argue and defend when a complaint in presented. We had Jade Chinese food delivered to our house tonight for dinner. My wife had the Hunan Shrimp and Shrimp Spring Roll. She is a shrimp lover and this didn't disappoint. Her shrimp was tender and spicy, just as she likes it. I had a wonton soup, which was awesome, and Main dish of Happy Family with a spicy sauce. It is my favorite Chinese dish, and it was delicious. All of the different meat were cooked through perfectly, and full of flavor. They estimated 45-50 minutes for delivery upon ordering, and they arrived with the piping hot food in 45 minutes as promised. The driver was kind, courteous, and appreciative of tip. I was EXTREMELY DISSATISFIED with the food I received. I ordered Crab Rangoon, General Tso's Chicken, Orange Chicken, Sesame Chicken, and Shrimp Egg Foo Young. I specified EXACTLY what I wanted and how I wanted it cook, NONE of which was done. The rangoon was cold. I paid $1.00 extra for sauce none was put on any of my chicken. I also asked that the egg foo young be fried lightly, it was black on the bottom. When I called the restaurant to complain, I was told by management that I had to bring ALL the food back untouched to get a refund.. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THEM AGAIN!! They will NOT compensate you. One star is TOO MUCH for them, but I wasn't given the option not to choose a star. read more
