The real deal! Outstanding authentic old school Cantonese Chinese food. The orange beef is actually made with steak! Shrimp and lobster sauce was so fresh. The wonton soup has the pork and greens like I remember as a kid. Fried rice was perfect. The restaurant was full with people at the tables and bar. Fast service. We ordered "take home": hot and sour soup; egg rolls and "shrimp with cashew nuts". 'Hot and sour' soup and roll were good. But not 'shrimp with cashew nuts" Portion size of "shrimp with cashew nuts" was smaller than usual and to our surprise it was missing cashew nuts completely. First time we tried this place. I've never said this about any other restaurant but this food was absolutely inedible. Spare ribs were only exception. They were edible but the egg roll literally made me gag. Color and smell of everything just off - nothing like any other Chinese restaurant I've ever been to. $50 down the drain. I don't write reviews often, but I want the owners to know why I won't be coming back. I order take out from here at least twice a week. I went in last night and placed an order. It was not a large order but it was only for me. The total came out to $9.51. I only had my debit card on me and the young lady at the counter told me she could not take my card because the minimum charge was $10. She said she could charge my card for $10 instead of what the food actually costs, if I want the food. I told her no thanks. Is this how a restaurant should treat a regular customer? Your restaurant has lost me as a customer. As a matter of principle I will not be coming back. read more

Although I use yelp to check out reviews all the time I've never written my own no matter how great or bad a place is, but this time I felt compelled. Family members live near by and love it so when my aunt was visiting we decided to check it out. My mom debated getting the Chilean sea bass special because she just loves Chilean sea bass, she gets it often and she knows alot about food and cooking! It came out with a big bone in it and she was turned off, one of the two owner/ managers came by and cut it off for her and she was sort of ok with that even though it shouldn't have any bones in it anywhere! She liked the sauce so and as not to be a pain in the neck did her best to eat it, and she kept picking out thinner bones, 1 in every bite, not normal for Chilean sea bass, she tried but couldn't deal, so we called the server over and explained, he went and told the other owner/ manager, and we waited and waited for someone to come by to see if she wanted something else, they didnt. We finally after being ignored by everyone got him to come by and she, very nicely, said she wasn't happy and could they take it away and off the check, the owner started yelling at her, it's fish it's got bones, I'm not taking it off the check, and walked away, left it there didn't see if she wanted a different dish, so now she's upset and I forced her to eat some of my shrimp, then the same man comes back and starts yelling so now the entire place is staring at us, "you're eating it still I'm not taking it off check if you're eating it" totally mortifying, she said I'm eating my daughters food since u haven't taken it away its still sitting in my face and I'm hungry! This man was beyond rude! I guess he figured she continue to pick and then he could say well u ate it anyway! This was a $30 item and sea bass shouldn't have any bones and instead of apologizing they embarrassed her and the whole table! I said you are not seriously yelling at a guest right now we have been very nice about it and your behavior is appalling, btw I've been waiting tables for 20 years, I never let anyone I'm out to eat with act disrespectful to anyone serving us, so I promise we weren't behaving badly, and I know how to treat guests and this was disgusting behavior especially since they were completely wrong, they should be ashamed of themselves, our server was nice and I'm sure embarrassed and we still gave him a nice tip of course, all the other things we had were really good and we prob would have gone back, but now I will tell everyone I know not to go there, I took the time to write this review, and in the age of social networking you really should try harder to make guests happy not embarrassed! Entered restaurant, local location, nice atmosphere. My husband & I had an exotic drink , ordered appetizers & dinner. All seemed nice. During the appetizer, the piece of eggroll got stuck in my throat & I passed out. My husband caught me in time before I hit floor, but a bowl fell over & got customers attention. The Owner immediately told my husband to bring me outside as to not disturb his service. The episode lasted 2 minutes, did not disturb anyone's meal. The Owner kept insisting I be brought outside & even suggested maybe I was on drugs. We never did receive our meal, but the Owner told my husband to come back & settle bill ( never received a doggie bag either for entrees we never recieved & paid for. ..The Owner had absolutely no concern for myself, and me & husband were in shock considering this never happened to me before. I've lived in the area for over 20 years and I had never been to this place before. Probably because I had heard real bad things. The parking lot is always empty and when I do see someone e walking to their car it's usually an optigenarian with a walker. One Sunday night I decided to try. What a mistake. One of the worst Chinese food joints I've ever had. Absolutely disgusting. I'm baffled as to how this place has managed to stay in business so long. The beef in the orange beef was literally grey and mucousy when cut into. Veggie lo mein was greasy and tasteless. The wonton soup smelled like broth mixed with sewage. My wife had the Buddhas delight. More like Buddha took a dump on the plate. Virtually all the food was inedible and what wasn't too noxious to put in your mouth had absolutely no taste. I have 2 pieces if advice. 1- don't eat at jade king.... Go hungry. 2- if you do make the fatal error to eat here; make sure you're life insurance is paid up. read more

First off, I've eaten here a few times and never really thought the food was any great shakes! I discovered that I did enjoy their Won Ton soup so I would stop and pick up a quart every now and then, so one night I stop for some soup an order of shrimp toast and a couple of other things. I get home with my food, pop open my soup, which is why I went in the first place and it taste like tap water over won tons ZERO flavor! OK, on to the shrimp toast, I bite into a piece and I notice there is a bug in it, so I break it apart and see dozens of what I believe is maggot larvae!!!!!! After the gag and dry heave session I race over to Jade King to get my money back and tell the lady in the front about the situation, she then proceeds to tell me that she'll give me back my money for the shrimp toast and the soup but NOT the other items I ordered! I then tell her that there is no way I'm eating ANYTHING from this restaurant and she's either going to return my money or I'm going from table to table to show the customers my shrimp toast, which I'm kind of sorry I didn't do anyway!!! Me and my family enjoyed dinner so much here. We came into the restaurant with a lovely smile and warm greeting from the girl at front. Food was great. The BBQ ribs was so delicious. We ended up ordering a second one. The white meat sesame chicken and salt and pepper chicken wings were also flavorful. Service was also great. read more

I wanted to like Jade King so much but it was such a disappointment. I tried them on a recommendation from a customer. I love the old school Chinese sit-down vibe that I remember from my childhood. I ordered online just before leaving work which was very convenient. The menu is pretty pricy...average is roughly $2-3 more per dish than I pay in Whitestone, but it is Roslyn. I ordered 4 different items to sample the menu. The person who recommended the restaurant all but raved about them so I had a degree of confidence. When I picked up the food, it was ready and waiting, smelled incredible and the employee was very friendly & welcoming. Again, I so wanted to like them....all signs were pointing in that direction until I actually ate the food. The General Tso's chicken was terrible. It was way too sweet...tasted like sweet & sour chicken. The chicken pieces were too big and it had the oddest texture, like old or rubbery chicken. The roast pork fried rice was very bland, no seasoning. The shredded pork with garlic sauce was ok. It was also too sweet and light on garlic flavor. The fried pork dumplings were flavorless and the dough was way too thick. The egg rolls weren't even that good...just ok. The only thing I really liked was the ginger & scallion lo mein. With tax, I spent just under $40 for 2 combinations, an appetizer and a pint of lo mein w/o meat. In my neck of the woods, it would have cost about $10 less for my order. Unfortunately, it was an expensive test and I probably won't be returning. read more

We enjoyed it 15 years ago but now it has become overpriced, bland, overcooked, etc. I feel like they have been losing customers so they keep raising prices. There are so many better Chinese restaurants on hillside that will deliver, so I would avoid eating here unless you have to. read more

Today I went to Jade King and noticed flags outside figured It was for an eary Memorial Day when I stepped inside I knew I was wrong. The usual people that take your order were no longer there. Replaced by two young ladies friendly and eager to help. The decor once old and drab were different. Replaced with a chic more upscale decor. My usual combination plate no longer offered for dinner so I decided on a healthy choice chicken and shrimp with spinach and broccoli sauted in ginger and I said I would also like garlic and they pleasantly said no problem. My husband had the sesame chicken and he was pleased too. Unfortunately they forgot my scallion pancakes so I called and was told we are so sorry would you like to come back I explained it was too far they said no problem, next time you order just remind us and we will make good. My husband and I decided to try this place out for the first time based on prior reviews. Unfortunately, we disagree where the food is concerned. The chicken dish we ordered tasted like old meat and it seemed like the spicy sauce used was made with a regular hot red chili sauce. Definitely had better in a couple of other Chinese restaurants. Service was OK. Gentleman at the entrance seemed pleasant. The complimentary hot tea was definitely not your usual green tea...looked like Lipton tea....very dark in color and had no flavor.
