Ordered a bowl with the mushrooms and zucchini vegetables and they were ICE COLD. Mango chicken also warm, not hot. Overall food is not enough. And if some items are intended to be cold (like the cold noodles) then indicate the item is cold. Please put a little sign next to the item saying cold or label the cold zucchini like you label cold noodles. I will try again but I felt the food was not prepared hot enough for such a quick serve type of place. read more

Wow what a gem. I went to Jade Rabbit earlier today and could not believe the prices they posted. For a lunch spot in Santa Monica, the restaurant is incredibly affordable. And for those prices, the quality is unbelievable! I ordered the orange mango chicken with Chinese cabbage and chinese broccoli, along with fried rice and chow mein. Everything was sit-down restaurant quality. I felt like I was getting PF Chang quality food at Panda Express prices. Actually the food is even better than that. And the decor is really cute. The restaurant was half empty when my friend and I got there. I'll be returning to Jade Rabbit often before the locals sniff out this place and start forming lines at the door - it is that good. read more

I had been looking forward to eating at Jade Rabbit, hoping for at least good Chinese food. Stopped in today, and it was a major disappointment. Food was cold (not even luke warm), tasteless, and the chow mein was extremely greasy. Vegetables, broccoli, and a mushroom combination tasted like nothing. Mango chicken was decent but cold, spicy chicken had a nice kick but was cold. Portion size was a fair amount. It was just too bad the food was terrible, tasteless and cold. Very disappointed. I was a big fan of Cassia and was heartbroken when it closed, but when I heard the same folks were coming out with Jade Rabbit, I was excited! Sadly, this was a pretty generic attempt at fast Chinese, slightly above Panda Express, and worst of all, way overpriced. I ordered the minced lamb which was a $4.90 upcharge from the regular bowl (chicken and the like). In total, abut $20 for a lunch bowl. Could have had a huge, amazing Chinese meal at Hop Woo for that. Disappointed, and will wait for the next Cassia. read more

I awaited the grand opening with enthusiasm and while I was riding my bike over imagined the food would be so great that I would want to return every day this week, but it is not, and I can't really see myself returning too many more times, if at all. The only item on the menu I would look forward to ordering another time is the mashed potatoes.. The positives: (1) the presentation, new tenant build-out and amazing location near the Water Garden offices and hospitals will result in this business being a cash cow for the owner (2) if you order any chicken or Chickpea Curry as your Main item, with two bases and two vegetables, a $12.90 bowl is a bargain, and the servings are abundant. The chief negative is that the food isn't really good and is one step up from Panda Express. My Garlic Chili Shrimp was cold and deep fried a la fast food joints one visits at times of desperation and between the shrimp and cucumber salad, the spice level was way too hot for my taste. Anyone living or working in Santa Monica knows a great Chinese Cantonese restaurant is sorely needed, and while this isn't that, Jade Rabbit will be a welcome addition to the immediate neighborhood. My rating is closer to 3 1/2 but ya have to go once and get it out of your system, lol. read more
