Purple Rice / Vegan Green Curry with Tofu + Veggies
    Colleen L.

Open till midnight! My boyfriend redeemed himself with this late night owl. This is my top favorite Thai so far in 2026, in part due to it's relaxing jazz music played overhead. Hurray for a relaxing dinner. Was informed that Chef Lee, a female, was not present this particular night. Not to be disappointed she somehow has managed to still bring forth fabulous flavors from her stellar staff to this cozy establishment. Prompt, friendly service upon entering. Checked on during the dinner. The Vegan green curry was most complex & delicious. One could immediately tell that care went into the freshly hand-cut vegetables. Not overcooked or mushy, just tender with still vibrant color and taste. Had winter melon for the first time. The texture was of honeydew melon but not sweet. Very generous portions. Had left overs enough to stretch for 2 more work nights, when cooked with frozen mixed veggies. The tapioca pudding dazzled my senses, hot and sweet with a bright green color. The sweet corn's texture was a divine surprise. Do not miss out on the other dessert either. The mango sticky rice, although not heart shaped was seasoned to perfection. This chef's taste buds are in sync with mine. Mmm, just thinking of it started me drooling.

WOWWWW that pineapple duck curry was amazing!! so flavorful and spicy, and the duck was very tender. i'm a huge fan of the grapes, they added the sweetness that balanced the acidity of the pineapple the owner is very sweet and makes everything herself! super clean and bright inside. i recommended checking this place out

PARKING Street parking available INTERIOR Clean with aesthetic decor Small restaurant with limited seating (maybe 4 tables) and bar seating SERVICE Got seated immediately and the owner and server were both extremely friendly greeting us, helping take our order, and checking in with us during the meal. Unfortunately it took 40 minutes for our food to come out. The owner did apologize for this but me and bf were starvingg. FOOD Crying Tiger $15 (2/5) grilled beef with a spicy dipping sauce. - the beef was dry and hard to chew. The dipping sauce was unique that tasted like a fish sauce with powdered sticky rice. Drunken Noodles $18 + $3 beef = $21 (3/5) Features finger root, onion, bell pepper and green beans. - this was good, but portion size is way too small for the price. There were a lot of bell peppers and green beans which were good! Noodles were cooked great as well even though the beef was slightly drier. Pad See Ew $18 (3/5) Flat, wok-fried noodles and veggies cooked with egg and chicken - good as well, but portion size could be bigger. Lots of broccoli stems and chicken was more tender than the beef. Despite the long wait and small portions, this was a decent experience.

Wow, this place is a hidden gem (or maybe it's just too new to have gained enough hype yet) Visited late on a Saturday night, I'm personally frustrated by how early restaurants close even on weekends in LA and this spot happened to be open til midnight so we visited by chance. The owners are super nice and checked in regularly on us to make sure we enjoyed our meal, which wasn't an issue because the food was great. I'm not an expert in authentic Thai food but I do know when I taste authentic Asian food and the herbs and spices in these dishes can only come from authentic cooking without shortcuts, super flavorful and rich and if you love basil you'll love these dishes. Also I don't know where they get their shrimp from but I wish I could grab them for my own cooking, meatiest shrimp I've eaten. I think they can definitely up their ambience, the restaurant does feel a bit too "clean" and soulless right now, and making it feel a bit more warm could help

Professional scam artists. They offer two for one buy one get one free. Instead they split ONE order into two. This is unethical and a scam. Also. Last time I ordered I got OLD curry that is chunky. I've had it a few times here before and this is NOT how it usually is. The offensive reply I received from the owner gaslighting me tells you everything you need to know about these people. And yes there are vegetables bc I've ordered this several times before. Every curry has a certain vegetable in it. This is twice now I've received old rotten food. First the coconut and now this. Probably has a D food rating

We had a great experience at this new-to-us Thai spot in West LA. Sanook means fun in Thai and it was fun to see this interesting menu. Being Thai I'm very picky about what passes as "authentic." This definitely passed the test. Excellent quality, maybe a little small portion wise but because of the authenticity of the flavors it was well worth it. We very much enjoyed the roti as a nice appetizer. One interesting dish that you won't find on American Thai menus is the Khanom Gene Nam Ya with crab (picture) that was sweet, sour and bitter as it's supposed to be. As a warning, You won't taste any dish like it so you might have to get used to it! I grew up with it so it was excellent to me. The Hormook baked salmon, an order ahead type of plate (that my mom used to make at home and I've never seen on a menu in Los Angeles?!) , however on the menu wasn't available but I was assured it would be in my future visit! Definitely worth coming to visit this amazing new spot. We will be back. Thank you Chef Lee!

I've always been eager to try this place out and I'm so glad I did! Although it was a small dining area and my party and I were initially seated at the bar, the owner was super awesome to move us to a table of 4 when it became available. The service the rest of the nice was great. The food was excellent and tasted really authentic, especially the Drunken Noodles. It had a delicious char from the wok and was full of veggies. The duck curry and green curry with beef were tasty and surprisingly came with a bowl of rice each, which we appreciated. The pepper garlic rice bowl was also great and super garlicky. Just a warning that mild spice is actually pretty spicy here! I'm excited to come back here again to try out more dishes.

We had a spicy, basil hot soup with sides of egg rolls. It was delicious. The owners greeted us like family. This is my number one Thai restaurant! I'll be back. Classy place too.

Tldr: best thai food on the west side; amazing chef/owners This place isn't just great Thai food, it's truly some of the best on the West Side, and for a very good reason. From the moment we walked in, we were completely blown away by the service and the incredible quality of the food. The owners are some of the most gracious and humble people we've ever met. They took the time to share insights into their recipes, which made the meal feel even more special. The dedication to their craft is clear in every dish. We were especially impressed when they toasted up fresh duck for our duck curry and duck noodles (both amazing) just an hour before closing, a level of accommodation you rarely see. The duck curry itself was a masterpiece, the use of grapes was brilliant, creating a perfect harmony of sweet and spicy flavors, all balanced beautifully by fresh basil. The food is phenomenal, the peanut sauce is arguably the best I've ever had. It was complex with a spicy kick and many different flavors, a far cry from the typical one-note, overly sweet versions. The Thai iced tea also stood out, it was served in a hefty mug and perfectly sweetened, not cloyingly so. The commitment to freshness is what makes this place truly special. I asked for mango sticky rice right at midnight, just as they were closing, and the chef didn't hesitate. She pulled out a fresh mango and began carving it, making a new batch of rice for me right on the spot.

    Menu as of May 2025.

Been coming here since they were a food truck, the rough days of their ghost kitchen, and am very happy to see they are now a restaurant. The roast duck noodle soup is pretty decent, the boat noodles are unexpectedly high quality for a place not in Thai Town -- to be clear this is not to slight Chef Donaldson's cooking, but just to show you how uncommon it is to find good boat noodles anywhere! Pork skewers are good too, perfectly meaty, and service is pretty good. Inside is clean and modern, have only been at off-hours so not sure how it is when they fill up.

    Drunken Noodle
    Kevin L.

Hearing that this was a food truck turned into a brick and mortar was really great to hear. We came for dinner on a weekday and parking was a mess. No parking before 7 on Pico, no parking on the side streets after 6 so for that one hour, you are pretty much out of luck other than parking pretty far. The food was overall pretty good. The Kao Soi was flavorful but it needed more noodles and definitely more soup. It became like a sauce rather than a soup that the noodles are sitting in. The Drunken Noodles were OK but it felt like it lacked that punch of flavor that we were all looking for. The Duck Noodle Soup was a bit too sweet for my taste. The Papaya Salad was the best thing we had. Crisp papaya with a dressing that was pretty strong. Finally the chicken wings were cooked well and full of meat but the chicken itself was pretty bland and it needed to be drenched in sauce to have any flavor. As you can see the food was fine and the service was also just fine. There was great intent but it feels like there needs to be more training of the staff. Just a lack of attention or too much attention and mixed organization among the tables. Luckily it wasn't an issue for us, but other tables who got there after us and take out orders waited a LONG time to get their food. We had eaten most of our food before other tables even for their appetizers so there some expediting that needs to be done imo. I really wanted to like the restaurant with the positive reviews I read but I left somewhat disappointed.

The waitress was taking our orders and what surprised me was with my co-worker ordered the pad see ew and the waitress asked her how spicy she wants it. I was aw shocked. I'm not a Thai food expert but I do know pad see ew is a noodles dish that's offers a sweet soy sauce flavor. Never served spicy. I didn't get to try the dish but when I asked my co worker how it taste she said it was spicy and not sweet at all. I'm not sure that was an authentic pad see ew. I ordered from the lunch menu and got the tumeric chicken, with steamed vegetables and paid extra $7 to substitute for a papaya salad. I asked for #2 spice level but it was not spicy at all. Other co workers said they asked for medium but it was way too spicy. So it looks like their spicy levels are inconsistent. I don't know if it's regional but it was very light in taste and light in thickness. BUT I enjoyed it for what it was. Felt like I had gotten home made chicken soup or something like that comforting and not overly processed. Maybe it's because I ordered it with no protein and just vegetables. I have written at least 2 glowing reviews of the restaurant in the past and wish this could be one of them, but it's not. Over the last 4-5 days I have tried no less than 2 dozen times to call the restaurant during proper business hours to order food for pick-up as I often do. The phone rang and rang to no avail. I live too far from the restaurant to just pop up and place an order so I rely on calling ahead. I have been a customer of this restaurant for at least the last 9 years and have almost never had the aforementioned experience. Though I do recall not being able to get a call through several times on one or two occasions in the relatively distant past. Today I was finally able to get a call through and began placing my order which includes shrimp. I ALWAYS request the tail (with shells) to be removed from the shrimp as I find it quite difficult to enjoy my meal if I'm constantly having to pick off shells with my hands. It's unsanitary and messy. Removing the tails from 15-20 shrimp prior to adding to an entree or soup should take no more than 60 seconds and that's if one is moving at a glacial pace. However, today I was told that the kitchen was too busy to honor my request. I assured the lady taking my order than I was a loyal customer and make this request will every order I place and it is always honored. She repeated her claim that the kitchen was too busy and refused to do it. I cancelled my order and ended the call. Now I usually order food from the restaurant 4-5 times a month and usually spend about $65 each time not including tip. That is approximately $325 per month of my hard earned money that I give to this restaurant in exchange for great food and service. I am appalled and quite upset that having been a loyal customer for almost a decade and spending as much money there as I do per month that they could at least honor my patronage by simply taking an additional 60 seconds in the kitchen to make my meal more enjoyable. Her refusal to do such a minuscule task has deeply soured my experience with Hoy-Ka not to mention the fact that I could not reach the restaurant for almost a week by phone for no apparent reason. I will not be going back to this restaurant until they rectify this situation.

Came here for a quick bite before a walk around the lake with a friend I haven't seen in a couple years. I loved our server and overall experience here I appreciated. In terms of food, the panang curry was more watery than I had expected. It had a lot of nice vegetables and a big serving of rice on the side. I thought the flavors were there but it could have definitely been turned up a little more, but wasn't bad for something quick. My friend got the satay and this was more my style. I love a good char and meat on a stick and this satisfied my craving.

My friends and I came here right after watching a show at the Pantages Theater. We were so…read morefortunate to walk into a good number of empty tables so we didn't have to wait. However, as we were wrapping our dinner, all the tables were filled and we felt a bit of a push to hurry up to pay and leave. The waiter didn't say anything to push us to leave, but when you see them giving you the bill before you could finish your food or ask for it, you feel a bit pressured to eat faster. The three of us opted for family style and ordered four entrees and a side of white rice to share. We ordered the stir fried crispy catfish, the sautéed morning glory, the shrimp salad, and the pad kee mao with chicken. The total came out to be about $33.28 per person including tax and 20% tip. I think that's very reasonably priced. We also did not have to wait long at all for our food, which we were so pleasantly surprised. This is definitely a place to go if you want good Thai food and have a short meal break. We ordered and finished our food in less than an hour. We parked a few blocks away in the neighborhood. The parking situation in that plaza was a nightmare. There were cars honking and almost hitting the cars in the front or in the back. I don't live anywhere near Hollywood, but if I do come to see a show at the Pantages Theater in the future, I'll make sure to swing by again.

To share, we had the following dishes: -Tom Yum Shrimp Soup: Spicy and sour in a good way. The shrimps were also juicy. -Papaya Salad: Crisp and fresh. -Pad Thai w/ Chicken: Solid and not too sweet. The noodles were cooked well. -Roasted Duck Over Rice: Good, but nothing mind-blowing. I would've loved more of a roasted feel and flavor. -Pad Prik King: A good amount of meat and flavor was good. -Sauteed Morning Glory: Honestly my favorite dish here. I loved the crisp veggies and flavor. -Beef Jerky: Surprisingly not bad. An elevated beef jerky. Everything was solid, but I've had better versions of each dish elsewhere. Nothing stands out, but this is a good standard for Thai food. The service here was really good and attentive. I appreciate the servers taking on all the requests hurled at them from the people in my group. They also helped with a water spillage. Parking can be tough since the area is popular. It's valet parking only in the lot in front of the restaurant, but you can also find some free spots around the area if you don't mind walking.
