    White Beans and Rice
    Daniel A.

The local food you were looking for!!!!! Stumbled across this place on my road trip East and it should have been a featured stop! The staff was so friendly and clearly loved what they were doing. The food was otherworldly. Ordered the white beans and rice. Savor and not needing any additional flavoring. It was creamy, had that homemade flavor. Clearly someone cared about how good this food tasted. The wings had the biggest crunch with tender meat. And the bread pudding was absolutely the best I've had. A not overly sweet base with the most sensational sauce on top. I couldn't decide if I wanted to savor every little bite or devour the entire thing whole. I will be recommending everyone to leave whatever state you are in and come try this food. Might be driving back over from Arizona just for seconds.

The owner/cashier was very sweet and informative. Nice music played while waiting for my food. I ordered white beans, potato salad, and fish. I did get chicken wings by mistake, but they were top 3 for fried chicken. It was juicy and flavorful, just like the white beans! Everyone can't make potato salad but they can. I will go back soon!

I absolutely love this restaurant!! I swear I send everyone here!! I'm actually on my way there now!! You haven't eaten fried chicken wings until you've eaten at Jae Flem !!!

I looooove love love Jae Flem, the owner Ronjai has an amazing personality, and the food is so much for such a great price! I eat here so often id have to go back a long time ago to find a picture!! My favorite is their Ronjai burger, it's ginormous enough to eat in two sittings or share. My son loves the Friday special with fried fish, salad and pasta, he destroys it! And my daughter enjoys the fried shrimp plate with fries! I look forward to eating here as often as possible!

A local spot for sure. The owner welcomes you with a big smile and plenty of hugs. The young gentleman behind the bar was full energy and was very attentive. The food was plenty and delicious. The cat fish was nice and full size. The environment was very live and youthful for no matter the age around.

In the restaurant business, we all have a switch: once the doors open, it flips. Until then, you're seeing people exactly as they are. This team is genuine. Hands down. Yes, I know, I'm technically here for a king cake. Standing in line for a king cake from a famous fried chicken company almost feels satirical. But watching the entire team sit down together for a meal an hour before service told me everything I needed to know about the leadership and the values of this company. People matter here. You can see why the sandwiches are as good as they are. You can feel why the king cake is worth the wait. This team operates like a family; kind to one another, intentional, and connected. The food is made with care because the people are cared for. I'm not here to review the food (which is phenomenal) or the king cake. I'm here to review the brand. This is the kind of business we should be proud to support as a community. Keep it up.

I also like that they feature a daily special that isn't on the regular menu--it adds a nice element of variety. Everything is cooked to order, which is definitely a plus. Once we pulled up to an empty parking lot during lunchtime, we questioned how it had 4 stars. Boutte's Bayou is located towards the back of a river barge. It has a riverish diner feel inside, with maximum river bayou decor. The kitchen is hidden away in the middle by a curtain or sheet; we couldn't tell. There was only one person working, taking orders, and cooking food. The menus are handwritten; each is a little different, but as of the date, the same menu as the Yelp photos. None of the food was fresh, all fried on site behind the curtained kitchen. It also all tasted like something we could buy from Costco or Sam's Club and fry ourselves. Drinks were provided via pop/soda cans. Plastic wear is provided for eating via a large bin on the table. The Cook/Server/checkout person running our credit card for payment had an issue; there was no wifi, then Wi-Fi, some system error, some square event, then some Venmo issue... this felt very sketchy, with the number of times the cards were scanned, and then the owner was called, who asked for the card over the phone. It was a very weird experience. We ended up paying in what little cash we did have.

As part of the Restaurant Impossible episode the previous building had undergone a renovation and menu revamp all of which was lost in the hurricane. The current location is operating out of a "floating structure" with the restaurant downstairs while the upstairs has hotel rooms for rent along with a bar area with a pool table. They have a smaller menu and no longer serve alcohol as of my last visit. I'm not sure if they are using this floating structure as the new preeminent location or if they intend to rebuild a new building where the old restaurant was. Overall they still have some good seafood options here while having a VERY limited beverage selection. My video review of Bouttee's Bayou Kitchen is here: https://youtu.be/7n9wgaeUXU4

Though pop-up showers were still lingering, my husband and I decided to take a gamble on courtyard dining--and I am so glad we did! Sheltered under the green umbrellas surrounded by historic brick walls, lush greenery, and rain-kissed citrus trees, the atmosphere was incredibly romantic and peaceful. The courtyard's intimate layout even brought a bit of extra magic to our evening. We sat near another wonderful couple (and their adorable daughter) and became fast friends, sharing laughs and conversation throughout the night. What truly anchored the experience, though, was the incredible service. The staff was remarkably personable, helpful, and welcoming. The dinner itself was excellent from start to finish, showcasing immense culinary skill across every dish. We started with the delicious brussels sprouts and a uniquely seasoned spring/summer gumbo that was unlike any version we've had before (oh, what I would give for the recipe). As for the entrées, the shrimp and grits were phenomenal, and the blackened catfish sandwich with a fresh salad was executed flawlessly...and the bread pudding was fantastic, too! It is rare to find an experience where top-tier hospitality, a breathtaking environment, and great food come together so (seemingly) effortlessly. Café Amélie is an absolute must-visit! The host was extremely welcoming and friendly. Our server and helpers were over quickly to drop off waters and greet us. I ended up ordered the salmon. With it being so early and only one or 2 other tables besides my friend and me, the food did take longer to come out than I expected it to. Both of us did thoroughly enjoy what we got. The salmon was crispy on the outside with a nice sauce over it. We thought we'd have time to get dessert so we ordered a couple but that too took a very long time. We finally waved down our server to cancel and get the check since we had to be somewhere and he apologized and said their WiFi was going in and out so it could be that it was registering on the kitchen side. That may have explained why our entrees took too long. If it wasn't for the service and the food being great - I would not be thrilled about timing. We got there around 5:30p and had to leave by 7:15p so an almost 2 hours experience that probably could have been 1 hour.
