They produce their wines here at this location, in a residential area. Very interesting to visit as you get a glimpse of how it is all done, right where you are tasting. What can I say. I've been a club member for a number of years and the wine is as consistent as it gets. Jaffurs Syrah is my favorite - Kimsey, Bien Nacido, Thompson, you name it...Their Grenache Blanc and Viognoir are outstanding also and I am usually a red drinker. Wow. Powerhouse of information for the wine novice! Talk to a guy by the name of Juaquin...he seriously knows his stuff! After finding this little place among the houses And a pet boarding place, we walk up to what looks like a warehouse. The gentelman greets us and walks us over to a table setup like a garage sale. I don't mind the simple setup and enjoyed learning what the machines all did. Juaquin took us step by step in the entire Process of winemaking which is all done at this facility. From where and how the grapes are grown, pruned, picked to the types of barrels, how they are smashed, etc: this guy is the real deal. Since it was a Monday afternoon, we had the place to ourselves and had to of spent a good hour+ there! The flight included: 2008 Grenache blanc (good for a White) 2008 viognier (my new favorite white!) 2007 mourvedre (new to me but we loved it) 2008 syrah, Santa Barbara (didn't care for how sweet it was) 2007 syrah, verna's vineyard (loved!) While the tasting is $10 a piece, you do get to keep the glass: which I love! I have an extensive collection growing from vineyards around California. It was our first time visiting Jaffurs and it was great to see the humble origins of such fantastic wine! The tasting room and wine-making area are one and the same, with surfboards decorating the warehouse-like interior, but what Jaffurs is lacking in ambiance, they make up for in excellent wine - which is what really matters - to me, at least! We had enjoyed Jaffurs' Syrah at Opal the night before with some tasty filet mignon and bought 2 more bottles here for $25 each to enjoy over the weekend. Best Wine in Santa Barbara hands down. Bought 3 cases today. All of the tastings today were great!! Had 4 people tasting today that were comped since we bought so much wine! Jaffurs has a great selection of wines. The staff is friendly and very knowledgable. The wines are some of the best in Santa Barbara. The syrah is wonderful and blows me away every time I taste it. The Petite Syrah has always been my favorite & was how I originally heard about Jaffurs. After tasting their other wines, I began to see how Jaffurs makes truly amazing wine. They make great California Rhone varietals! My boyfriend & I thought the Grenache was absolutely stellar along with the Syrah SBC and Syrah Verna's vineyard. The location itself is a warehouse, in a mixed residential-commercial neighborhood. Why would anyone come here? Easy - world class wine. Go to Los Olivos and Santa Ynez for the beautiful atmosphere and and the fun of a wine-tasting trip, but Craig Jaffurs' wines are better than 99% of any wine you'll taste within 100 miles, especially Jaffurs Syrah. Wine-tasting is subjective so your opinion may vary, but when wine lovers ask me what are the one or two wineries they must visit south of Sonoma or Napa, for me this is one of them. read more

Don't let the location put you off from stopping here. If you're looking for beautiful views of vineyards this is not your place. It's located in a mixed use section of town behind an Auto Zone. But if you are looking for great Rhone varietals served by friendly and knowledgeable people this is the place for you. I have been to a lot of different wineries in Santa Barbara county and also in Paso Robles areas and Jaffurs produces some great wines. I have come here several times for tastings and have always been treated well - the staff treats you great and they are knowledgeable about the wine. After coming the first time, I joined their wine club and have come since, for some of their special wine club events which are great experiences - for example their special barrel samplings that they do. It has always been a great experience and appreciate the consistency of their wine production. They really do get some of the best Rhone varietal grapes in the county to use in making their top-notch wines. read more

While wine tasting in Santa Barbara we made the long walk from downtown out to Jaffurs and were extremely disappointed. For $10 we got to try what amounted to splashes of 4 or 5 wines. There was no way to share a taste or get 2 good sips to really evaluate anything. The wine itself was very nominal at best. Nothing that I would say was better than cheap supermarket wines. They had some high rated wines but of course were not sampling those. The employee explained the wines but did nothing more to sell us on them, did not ask us if we wanted to re-taste anything, and then told us we could keep the glasses but couldn't even provide a bag for them knowing that we were walking. After paying for very small tastes of very average wine in a garage in the outskirts of town we noticed the prices and there was nothing under $30, even for white wines. If we bought 2 bottles which averaged $40-$55 they would refund ONE $10 tasting fee!!! The idea of wine tasting is to get me to buy bottles, of which I own well over 200, not to charge me $10 for less than 1/2 a total glass of wine. Tasting fees should always be refunded to those who purchase and tastes should be large enough to get a good taste for a wine. This winery in a garage needs to learn customer service and value and all the 4 and 5 star reviews must be out of their mind, friends of the owner, or have never tasted wines that deserve to be priced $40-$60. I will definitely not be returning to them and when in SB I will stick to the many other more enjoyable wineries. read more

Great wine and fun service! I work in the wine industry, so I've been to a lot of tasting rooms and tasted a lot of wine, and this was absolutely my favorite funk zone winery. Dave was so friendly and funny and so informative. He also gave us awesome tips on nearby restaurants, which we took, and had phenomenal meals to boot! The 2011 Syrah and their Petite Syrah were favorites, and we bought a few bottles. Great wine, in a relaxed, but fun atmosphere. We'll be back for more! read more

decided to try this place out since we didn't feel like driving for an hour to go to either lompoc or santa ynez, so i suggested we do the urban wine trail and stayed close to downtown santa barbara. picked this place first because it was featured in the magazine article, and people were raving about the petit syrah that they had. I personally think it was ok, but I did like the white wine he started off us with. The guy is full of information and it was perfect because I really know nothing about wine. it was interesting talking to him. the place looks like a warehouse and could be easily missed because it was in the middle of a residential looking neighborhood next to a pet shop. the space was small but had a very modern industrial look to it. they are contracted with several wineries and has a good varieties of wines to try. we got 3 bottles of wine to go, and we got to keep the glasses, which is always a bonus! read more

The "store" you can visit is not the wine, of course. For a number of years now we have been drinking various of the Jaffurs wines - from the Voignier to the Grenache Blanc from the Mistress Pinot Noir to the Santa Barbara Syrah (and others). We have given the wine as gifts at the holidays, and the recipients always thank us (actually rather profusely). The story of how this winery came about, the quality of the wines, the care and attention they give to their wines, let alone their customers, leads me to give Jaffurs Winery all five stars. This is a very unassuming winery in an unassuming place. But the hospitality and wines are great. Kjerstin in particular is very welcoming and in fact reopened the winery for tasting even though we went after closing time. It's not in a great location but well worth visiting. Within a couple of hours, I had a response with apologies and reiteration that the specific employee did not follow the company's policy. We will give it another try if we are in town again. Original : We arrived at 445pm knowing they closed at 5pm. We came from LA on a one day trip and were refused service. It's sad. The wines were recommended but we didn't get to taste. As the lady did not even allow us out of the car. So the ratings go to the total lack of customer service. read more

My friends and I were going to Jaffurs for Bachlorette wine tasting event. Our first event was Jaffurs. We walked in with six girls and then the guy said he wouldn't take us because they don't take six people with out reservations. (Please keep in mind, there was not a single soul in the place at this time and I just drove three and a half hours from Laguna Beach to do this tasting.) I asked him if he would take us separately since we are paying separately. He spoke down to me and litteraly spoke to me as if I had a mental comprehension problem that they don't take six. I asked again if we all came in at different times and weren't a party would he take us. He said yes. I said then can you ring us up like that please. He said if you didn't just hear what I said. I politely said I heard just fine and thank you for being so hospitable. You just lost six sales. Have a nice day. Please don't support the round, white, tall gentleman who treated six young women with such discontent. I don't know how the wine was nor do I ever care to buy. My landlord owns a restaurant and she is discontinuing the product as well. I'm sure due to their extraordinary service. read more
