Went here as it was recommended by the valet for a drink so we decided to walk down to Jake's. It's right in the water and the ambiance is a casual beach bar with light eats. I ordered the pecan and pear salad and added shrimp. It was good but not great the service was great also but the food isn't the reason I would want to go back. My wife and I are in South Orange County, and we were driving home from Tijuana for the evening. traffic was horrible, so we pulled into Jakes for dinner. Full disclosure I've been here maybe 5-6 times. The first time was in 1982, man it was always good and still is! Their food is outstanding. I had the Diver Scallops and black risotto, my wife had the ribs. It was packed so we sat at the bar. The restaurant itself has the best views of the ocean and sunset, parking is Valet only, but there is public parking across the street. The service was excellent and the bar is full of servers whom are onto it at all time. It was during the World Series game between the Dodgers and Yankees so it was buzzing. I'm really glad I came back here again and we will always return. It's impressive that this place has had a long history and has survived COVID and everything. read more

FOOD 4/5 I got the King Salmon which was good. Not the best salmon I've ever had, but decent. My boyfriend got the the Shrimp Ravioli which was good! When I thought Shrimp Ravioli, I thought it was shrimp stuffed Ravioli and I'm like ummm no. But this was more like a deconstructed Ravioli which was not bad! DRINKS 4/5 Spicy Cucumber was good! I am a sucker for anything rimmed with chili salt so take my recommendation with a grain of salt - pun intended. The orange blossom just tasted like a mimosa. DESSERT 5/5 Definitely get the Kimo's Hula Original Pie and nothing else. My boyfriend and I got that and the Creme Brûlée because we love dessert and oh boi was it a struggle to finish them both. The Kimo's Pie was HUGE and soooo good. I'd go back to Jake's just for the Pie. SERVICE 4/5 The staff was friendly, but it was rather disappointing when we made a 5:15PM reservation for our anniversary here and requested to be seated by the window to enjoy the view, but told that they begin seating at 4:45PM for dinner and all window seats have been occupied. They said we could wait until 6something for a window seat to open up. We chose to be seated, but we could not enjoy the view of the beautiful ocean and sunset without staring at another party's heads and dinner. The staff was nice though and we received food, drinks, and dessert in a timely manner. They also made a HAPPY ANNIVERSARY card to put on our table which I thought was cute. ATMOSPHERE/VIEW 4/5 If you want a good view, make the earliest reservations or be prepared to wait for a table to open up. All I need are some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine. I have been coming here since I was in high school and it's still just as great as ever. I made reservations on open table and we were seated immediately. We went fresh off of restrictions for outdoor dining being lifted. We sat on the 'patio' which is really an area in the restaurant that's enclosed but has huge windows wide open and a terrific breeze coming through. I didn't feel uncomfortable or too close to the other tables. Our waiter was a little kooky but he did a good job. We started with mai tais and crab cakes which were fantastic. We also got the cheeseburger and fish tacos which were pretty good. I do think the fish tacos need more heat or a better salsa. If you can try, plan to be there around sunset, its magic. I highly recommend Jakes for some strong drinks, coastal cuisine, and salty air. read more

The ambiance alone should have you salivating for a reservation. We stalked OpenTable and were able to secure a 6:45 reservation and the timing was perfect as the sun started to set around 7-7:15. Watching the sunset and crashing waves would have been romantic if I had not been with my girlfriends, but we were able to get some awesome IG worthy pics. The service is great and the food was absolutely delicious! I highly recommend the brussel sprouts and the scallops! As per southern cal, they have several healthy food options...you really cannot go wrong. Again...plan in advance as tables are limited due to covid restrictions. read more

First thing is first... put in a reservation. This place gets crowded! We had a reservation in and still needed to hang out at the bar for a round or two before our table was ready. Parking costs money! Whether you choose to ball out and valet it or park it on the street and walk in. It will cost ya! For food, seafood was fresh but I found majority of what we had ordered to be a bit on the bland side. Note honestly could've just been how exhausted I still was from the wedding. Not terrible, but also not the best I've ever had. Ambiance... definitely bring a jacket as there's a nice breeze that sweeps through the place as it's right along the shore. I would definitely try and plan accordingly to reserve a table that right along the window and just before sundown for that super romantic view. Anyways, that's all I got on this one. We really wanted Hula Pie so we decided to visit Jake's. It is in a beautiful location on the beach. The place was pretty busy on a Thursday night. Service was mediocre. The chicken and fish plates were dry. Steak was not cooked properly, and you hardly get any potatoes. There were Six of us in our party and neither one of us would recommend. Very nice ambience. The staff was very accommodating and worked together seamlessly and were very helpful. Our server was top-notch all the way very personable and helpful. I started it off with a mai tai. It was very well prepared, and a nice refreshing drink. Also had a hazy IPA from a local brewery. The menu and specials were not cluttered and overwhelming. Some menus are too busy and confusing. We had the ribs and also a Brussel sprouts appetizer, ribs were perfectly cooked and the sauce was nice and spicy and flavorful. My wife and I shared a Caesar salad, which was in the anchovy vinaigrette dressing and garnished with cheese. For my main course I had the Togarashi Spice Crusted Ahi tuna ,sushi rice cake, bok choy, shiitake & brown beech mushrooms, soy butter, pickled green papaya. The tuna was excellent! Big fan of Jake's!! Their food is always amazing and I love the atmosphere, location, and quality of the food they serve. My family and I have come here many times over the years and I've never been disappointed. It's definitely a good idea to make a reservation if you want a nice table overlooking the ocean/beach. If you don't care too much about the view then they also usually have seating in the bar/lounge area. Friday nights and weekends are pretty packed but finding a table in the lounge area was pretty easy for my boyfriend and I. Jake's is perfect for all occasions! Family dinners, date night, or even just a place to grab drinks with friends. I highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area. They also have some decent happy hour deals around 5pm. read more

A Del Mar gem on the beach. We arrived and were seated right at our reservation time. Hint: definitely make a reservation and ask for an ocean view table. Our server was friendly, knew the menu and was the perfect balance of service vs intrusive. The food was great. We both had beef and it was tender, perfectly cooked and delicious. We didn't have dessert but saw several around and they looked delicious. My mojito was delicious with just the right balance of rum and mixer. If definitely suggest an early winter dinner so you can enjoy the view as the sun sets into the ocean. Also the price was very reasonable for a steak on the beach. read more

How do you try a typical seaside high-end restaurant at a more affordable and boozier cost? The answer is: BRUNCH! My friend had suggested I check out Jake's in Del Mar while visiting San Diego for a weekend. She mentioned to me that the brunch menu was much more reasonable versus their dinner items, and she was right. Most of the items on the menu hover at around $12 - $18 depending on what you'd like. On weekends, this place gets PACKED so reservations are highly recommended. You won't be seated until everyone gets there which is to be expected like most restaurants. We were seated in front of a gorgeous seaside view. On sunny San Diego days, the ocean looked absolutely breathtaking and it was great to be able to see this pass while eating. I ordered the seafood omelette ($18) which incorporates fresh Dungeness Crab into the mix. I loved this omelette as it also includes fresh avocados, onions, and even salmon roe which I'll usually get on my sushi. YUM is the best way to describe this meal. At the end, our server was so sweet and provided a complimentary Salted Caramel Creme Brulee for my birthday. Cheers to turning a new decade! I really had a great time dining at Jake's; the beach view really sealed the deal for me. Side Note: the management was at first unclear on my request to accommodate my friend who uses a chair. I had to essentially say "wheelchair" to make sure we had an accessible table, but afterwards they were very accommodating and made sure we were comfortable where we sat. Parking valet is available for $6 which is cheaper than some of the paid parking options in the area. read more

Beautiful restaurant right off the beach and decent service, although I was a bit surprise the waitress did not ask us if we wanted dessert, rather brought us the check very soon after she picked up our dinner plates. We split the surf and turf dish alongside the fish special that night. Being from the Texas, I think we should've known better than to order steak. It was the toughest thing, even at a medium rare. The shrimp that came with it seemed like it was frozen; maybe it was the lighting but it didn't seem fresh, although we were right off the coast. This place was recommended to us by my boyfriend's aunt and we weren't very impressed overall. On a positive note, we loved our drinks. The Orange Blossom Margarita was so delicious! Our first night of vacation, we ended up taking a drive and ended up in Del Mar. what a lovely beach! It wasn't crowded on a week night and we had a peaceful time. We got hungry and Jakes had good reviews, so we took a chance not having reservations, and went over there. We got so lucky and they had a table outside. The food was really good- the kale salad was delicious, the calamari was unusual but very tasty, and the Brussels sprouts were sooooo good.
