So we came back here again and i will say the food is just perfect but i was very unhappy with the waitress we have had her a few times npw and i have to ask more then once for certain things. She just seems like she doesnt care which is a bummer so i will come to this restaurant less due to her. Please please get your staff on par. When its busy or slow it shouldnt matter the wait staff should always be on par. We will try again but we have had this certain waitress 2 times now and she ruins the wonderful experience of jakes. Visited Jake's Steak House on Friday July 1,2022. This steak house was highly recommended to me by my sister- in -law. However , this was my first and last visit. The service was distasteful and unprofessional. I arrived to the restaurant approximately between 7:50 pm. I did not receive my food until 8:45 pm. The server was not attentive. She Did not visit my table to inform me regarding the delay or to ask if I needed a refill. I was completely disregarded. I had to get off my seat to inquire regarding the delay. I was just going to pay for my drink and leave. It was not a busy day. There were only a few patrons. The server comes running out saying my food is ready and I return back to my seat. When my food arrived it was cold. They applied a discount and my bill was still $40.00. They charge extra for onions and mushrooms. I did not see any mushrooms or onions on the cold and tasteless steak. The baked potato was tasteless , old ,and cold. They provide complimentary soggy sandwich bread with butter. This is not a steak house and I do not recommend. Save your money and visit another restaurant. Disappointing. Please listen and read the negative reviews . They are true and honest. We stopped in on February 8 at the beginning of an eleven day road trip. Everything was wonderful. Our server, Jennifer, seated us and gave us excellent service. The bartender, Mike, happened to walk by and asked if we were ready for drinks, and then brought them to us right away. We had a great meal: I had the prime rib and my husband had the chicken Oscar, both of which we would highly recommend. It was a fun way to start our trip. read more

Nice decor as you step in from the odd location near a residential area. This is supposed to be a swanky high end restaurant, but I think it fell a bit short of that. The service was a little bit understaffed which resulted in slow service, but not bad service. Now to the food. I ordered the 10 ounce prime rib with veggies and pilaf. I dig my prime rib, but it gave me the cold shoulder. I guess this goes back to the under-staffing problem. After watching "Waiting", I decided not to complain and just enjoy it for what it was..decent and COLD prime rib. The sides was perfectly cooked, but didn't scream excellent to me. This place is great for a dining experience in Tehachapi. We came to Jake's after a memorial service for my husbands "Mommer". Jake's had plenty of choices on their menu. I ordered the 1/2 Asian Chicken salad and it was very good. Most of the roughage was Cole slaw style shreds. The chicken was seasoned cubes. The salad included dried cranberries, mandarin oranges, cashews (my fave) and rice noodles. The dressing blended everything together perfectly. My husband had the Cod and French fries. He seemed to have enjoyed it. I snuck a fry and it was really good. My Aunt and Mother in law had the Rueben. They enjoyed their meal as well. Not sure what everyone else tried but nobody complained. The service is great which is nice. They took our orders and the food came out quickly after. The tables have linen table cloths and napkins. The pricing is good as 12 of us ate for about $25 per person. And a few of us indulged in a cocktail too. read more

I came here with my coworker night before Valentine's Day around 7 PM. We were seated immediately as there is no wait. I hostess took us to one of the back corner rooms were several other parties were seated it was definitely decorated for Valentine's Day but still a cute cozy feel to it overall.My coworker and I shared the spinach dip and I started with the super he got a salad. I went with the fillet medium and he got the daily fish dinner special. My coworker had been here before and raved about the steak so I was looking forward to my meal but unfortunately I have to say I did not live up to my expectations or previous experiences at other steakhouses. Well it certainly did not taste bad by any means I would not say it really packed the flavor punch I was looking for and the vegetables were somewhat bland to but my coworker enjoyed his dish as usual. For dessert I think he got some baked pie and I got the brownie sundae which was decent enough but didn't taste like anything special overall. We traveled to Tehachapi on 12/21/22 and planned on having dinner at Jakes steakhouse. When we entered into the restaurant we were asked if we had reservation. We did not. The woman said to give her a minute, and she came back with menus and sat us at a table. We sat there for 30 minutes, watching others be seated and greeted by a server, offered water and their orders were taken. Not one person acknowledge us. Not a greeting, or a I'll be right with you, nothing. After the last table was sat, and brought water and bread and asked if they were ready to order we got up and left. No one said a work to us. So disappointed. So we went down the road to the Village Grill where we were welcomed and fed. The service was friendly and the food was good. Thank you Village Grill. Apparently, Jakes does not welcome travelers, or outsiders. read more

We were so hungry I forgot to take pictures! But food was delicious. I haven't eaten here in probably 6 years. Today was my nanas birthday and she wanted a chicken salad sandwich from there. And of course nana is going to get what she wants on her birthday. Me and my girlfriend split the Cajun chicken salad and the turkey apple sandwich. Nana got her 1/2 chicken salad sandwich and a cup of soup which was prime rib. The soup was delicious, hot, and fresh. They even brought her a scoop of ice cream with a candle! Due to the Corona limits we ordered takeout at Jakes. Called it in and it was ready for pickup Twenty five minutes later. I drove up and parked, called to let them know I was there and about a minute later the young lady brought the order to my car. Five minutes later I was back at the hotel and the wife and I enjoyed two delicious New York Steaks and fully loaded baked potatoes. Absolutely delicious and prepared perfectly. When I got back to the hotel everything was the perfect temperature. The only glitch? No utensils so we enjoyed our fabulous Jake's New York Steaks... Barbarian style! I was traveling through Tehachapi on a work trip with the hubby. Looking at the local restaurant reviews, several places get great reviews, but the menu at Jakes sounded great so we decided to give it a shot. We sat at the bar were treated warmly by the bartender (I think her name was Ginger, Jennifer??). Got our drink order quickly and made sure we had menus. We ordered the coconut shrimp and decided to wait to order more to see how well that was prepared before ordering a dinner. That was a complete waste of time! The shrimp was about the best I've had that way, and the dipping sauce was spot on. We decided on the steak salad to split. The steak was cooked absolutely perfectly as ordered (med rare), and the salad was fresh and delicious. The dressing is house-made and light and refreshing, and delightfully perfect for the meal. The steak was so incredibly tender, it was like slicing butter - I only needed a butterknife - no steak knife needed!!! There was a lively group of what I assume regulars at the bar that evening having a great time, but not annoyingly so. We chatted with another traveling gentleman in town for the night, that has been several times and expressed his love of the place. Another couple chatted with us as we were leaving, also local regulars that have loved the place for years. Superb food, excellent service, great local folks willing to have conversations... I almost look forward to another 2.5 hour drive to eat there again. read more

Have a very nice extensive menu for people with different appetitesOr diets. Service is always really good and atmosphere is sweet. We had our first COVID-era date night, and it was fantastic! We got there 10 minutes before our reservation, so we actually saw them sanitizing the table, chairs, and entire area, and tables were spaced appropriately. Our server was attentive and all staff members were wearing masks. The food was delicious (we ordered all seafood) and our drinks were wonderful (try the Jake's Moscow mule!). Just ate here tonight with my adult kids. The food was very good and everyone liked there meal. Service was very good. I think our waiter was new but he did a great job. He had an accident serving us but made up for it with a great attitude. Over all you would be hard pressed to find better food and service in Tehachapi. The service was friendly; and, while not slow, they seemed understaffed. In their defense, it was 6pm Tuesday and the place was packed. My waitress was also tending bar, so she was triple busy. I really do love this restaurant. Their food is really amazing and they handled the large dinner party we had a few nights ago to celebrate my marriage with my husband very well. "It's not easy to screw up a good piece of fish!" As my wife exclaimed. Maybe because her last piece of halibut was at Hitching Post, but I had a bite and it was dry, overcooked. It had nice grill marks as did my filet, but my filet was slightly overcooked. I asked for rare and got medium rare. The steak was good but definitely not great I expected more for $32. Not much flavor for local beef. Compared to HP, this place is a 2. And how about having at least 1 crumble of bleu cheese in the blue cheese dressing. read more

Nice setting but horrible customer service. We arrived before 3pm and there was no one else in the restaurant. They took us to the back room to a table with a bench and 2 chairs. We asked for a booth but they refused because we had a child with us. The owner was very rude when we tried explaining that we just wanted to sit in a booth because their chairs were uncomfortable and 3 of us have back problems. My injuries are combat related so it's disheartening to see how they treat Veterans. The owner just said "Ok, Bye" and waved us away. read more

Ive been here in the past pre Covid and I would have given it 4-5 stars, sorry to say Im really BUMMED. Came up for a surprise dinner for my Birthday. I was told when they made reservations there were asked if it was a special day or event they said Milestone Birthday. We got here bar was empty and dining was less than 20% full they asked if reservation yes gave name and was seated. The waitress was nice but not really that attentive. She wanted to push drinks, we did bring in a bottle of wine and asked for water to start, She came back sat down bread and water. Came back later to open the bottle and I asked if there was butter for the bread "its under the bread" why not tell us first when you set it down. She opened the bottle of wine sat it on the tale and said lets let this breath for a bit. It was a 2018 Cab it can air itself better in the glass than the bottle. She never came back to pour yet made sure I was charged 15.00 corkage and didn't even do a proper presentation. Did order an appetizer Artichoke spinach dip it was good, but I hate to say it was not a fresh prepared item I'm pretty sure it was a big box bulk item reheated. With our dinners we ordered salads which they serve in a high brim bowl. Its not really a good mix Id prefer a traditional flat plate as I felt like I was fishing for items, plus the plates they are using are odd shaped oversized and very heavy. Main course one had Chicken Marsala, terrible dish no marsala flavor at all. Its not really a hard dish to make but use a decent marsala wine and get a good deep flavor. Guest two had ribeye which was paper thin full of fat about one third of the steak was fat, he did ask for sauté mushroom on it. They were sour and slimy almost sure they came out of a can and should have been discarded as they were not good. I did ask him to send the meal back but he didn't want to cause an issue with the establishment. I ordered the same ribeye charred rare, usually when you want rare or charred rare you always get a thicker cut which I did but when you compare both of our steaks you will think one is getting robbed staff should advise the customer on this. I got Med rare not true charred rare The blue cheese was good tasted more like a gorgonzola but it was nice. Again the waitress stopped by the table and never asked if they could pour wine get more water or anything, Very Poor Service. Note we did come in for a special occasion, I excused myself from the table for a moment so I was not there when dessert time came around but they had to ASK if there was any type of Birthday cake or anything such as that. Isn't that why so many questions were asked when the reservation was made or am I missing something. Again its not like I wanted a silly piece of store bought lava cake but typically an establishment will bring it up and not even charge. I have had some restaurants comp desert even offer a dessert drink or at one location I frequent they even brought a bottle of their house wine unopened for me to take home. Its all about if you want the business or not. Its been about 3 maybe 4 years since I was last at Jakes because of the Covid and an hour away. We always had high hopes and great thoughts but to be honest, the only memorable experience it how much the place has gone down since we were there last. It was a moderate priced meal 200.00 for three of us, I know I probably made them mad as I prefer my own wines, this was a 75.00 bottle. But the plates are oversized and hard to move around a table three of us sat at a "U" shaped booth and plate kept banging. This is not good. Service on a scale of 1-10 would be a 3 maybe 4. Wine presentation sucked she could not even pour my wine just left the bottle on the table and charged me 15.00. Its a great looking place inside and has a nice intimacy to it, the hostess was pleasant and the menu is good but the quality was lacking. We spent the night in Tehachapi on our way home from Las Vegas and we were looking for somewhere to have a nice dinner. Checked Yelp and found Jake's Steakhouse, confirmed with the hotel that it would be a good choice and made a reservation. We were seated at a nice booth. The restaurant was busy, soon one of the wait staff stopped at our table and told us our server was swamped so she would take our drink orders. Shortly after another staff member stopped by with water and told us the specials and asked if we would like to order a basket of bread for $5. We said yes and were glad we did! She brought it fairly quickly, nice warm, delicious bread with butter! One of the ladies brought our cocktails then another stopped and said she would be taking over our table as our server was so busy. Her name was Sara and she gave us excellent service! 3 of us had steaks (sirloin, filet, and hangar) and one had ribs. We all enjoyed our meals so much everything was fantastic! We were so impressed with how all of the waitstaff worked together to make sure was had great service! Will definitely come back when we're in the area. read more

We tried this place for the first time when camping near Tehachapi. Great food and service.

First of all, this location isn't Bel Air or Beverly Hills. but their attitude and prices beg to differ. Why would I need to request bread and yet others were served bread? My son ordered a Old Fashion drink and it was extremely weak/watered down. We sent it back for a new one and we really believe they sent the same one back. My son also ordered a Prime Rib Medium Rare, when the waiter placed his plate on the table, I can clearly see it was more of a Medium Well, no pink/red whatsoever! When we asked to redo his order, the waiter returned saying they had no more Prime Rib? This is a Saturday Night @ 6:30PM! I ordered a Ribeye Steak Medium. That was all good for the exception I thought it was not a Ribeye Steak. Ribeye should have not to much fat but just enough fat for the juiciness and flavor. My "Ribeye Steak" was way to lean throughout, just a piece of meat without any flavor? Zero fat, only the edges of the Steak was acceptable to enjoy. All our dishes came out of the kitchen warm, not hot. Even tables around us was returning their orders because they came out warm. One lady next to us just out right canceled her order! I don't mind paying good money for good food, it cost us $140.00 for the table of 3 of us plus tip. I'm not one to leave reviews but just wanted to catch those undecided patrons looking for a Steak House. read more

Nice little restaurant tucked off the main strip here in Tehachapi. Could not believe how busy this little restaurant was. Ordered the Ahi Tuna appetizer with a touch of horseradish dressing and it was amazing. Salad /greens were not wilted and were fresh and crispy. The seared ahi was indeed seared and not over cooked or undercooked. Simple yet delicious. There soup was excellent the veg/beef soup plus I had to try their Baby back ribs a FULL rack. Never mind that it was a full rack it was amazing better then the other two places in town. They were not salty and they were not full of fat . Perfect did not fall off the ribs but came off nicely when you bet into them. Most definitely recommend this place. read more

The first time we went to Jake's Steakhouse we ordered everything but steak. My hubby had battered halibut. My inlaws had salads. I had ravioli. It was all sooo very good. The calamari appetizer was super tender and delicious. The salads that came with my husband and mine's entrees were very fresh. The corn fritters they served with my husband's fish were delicious -- I could eat a bowl of them by myself. Second trip -- just as wonderful. I had a surf and turf combo that was excellent. The sauce on the steak was incredible. The steak was cooked perfectly. And the prawns -- yummo! The potatoes au gratin is delish. I could make a meal of just that!
