Frankly, I am stunned by the positive reviews of this place. We went there yesterday because it came up on a search for local breakfast places. There were three simple breakfast choices on the menu. Nothing fancy, just stuff that we all make at home all the time. The WAIT: We waited for about 20 minutes at an outside table and still no food. The flies started bothering us too much so we moved to an inside table. It was another 30-40 minutes after moving inside before we started getting our food. There were three of us and it was delivered separately about 5 minutes apart. The KITCHEN: When we moved inside, I happened to be sitting where I could watch what was going on in the kitchen. It was a complete disaster. Their orders were written on sticky notes. And these sticky notes were stuck on various surfaces around the grill area. Sometimes they would fall on the floor, someone might see it and pick it up again. Sometimes not. Sometimes a sticky note would get thrown in the garbage and then pulled out again because they realized it was an order they hadn't done yet. They seemed busy but COMPLETELY disorganized. Did they all get stoned before they opened? You have to wonder. A big concern: the sink is right next to the grill. There was someone washing dishes and smashing water, etc over onto the food that was cooking on the grill almost the whole time that the cooking was going on. It was appalling to watch. This has to be a health violation? CUSTOMER FRUSTRATION: Everyone in the place was getting very frustrated. People were lined up at the counter next to the kitchen, asking where their food was. Lots of people waiting, very little food coming out of the kitchen. The FOOD: The food was extremely mediocre. Cold limp hash brown like the frozen ones at McDonalds (not homemade), poorly cooked eggs, razor-thin bacon, cold breakfast burrito. It was a joke. You might ask, why didn't we and everyone else simply walk out and find another place to eat. It's because we had already paid for the food! It's a walk up counter. You order, you pay and then go sit down and wait for your food. The only positive about this place was the barista/order taker. She was friendly and made good espresso drinks. I got the feeling she was trying to make up for the terrible service going on in the kitchen. This place is a disaster. Avoid it like the plague. read more

Wow. I don't even know where to begin, other than we should have heeded the warnings of previous reviewers. We have no one to blame but ourselves for this horrendous dining experience...sort of. After deciding to pass on the 6 muffins they had to offer that were clearly NOT "Made from scratch" as their menu claims, we ordered a breakfast burrito and breakfast sandwich on a croissant. First of all, I would like to mention that their eggs are really eggs, and I can appreciate that. However, while sitting I heard the cook shout out "where are the croissants? Oh, we must be out." At this point I was expecting the cashier to come out front and tell me they we're out of croissants and ask me what my second choice was. Much to my dismay, nobody came to ask me that question, rather I saw the cook pull out a box of frozen croissants per the guidance of the cashier. The cashier explained that the croissant should be run through the toaster to defrost it. I should have cancelled my order at this moment, but I just had to see this through. At some point during our stay, the cashier left. Customers came up to the counter, and the cook took their orders, rang them up, took their cash, and headed over to my breakfast sandwich. She neglected to make a pit stop at sink to wash her hands, and cut my formerly frozen croissant. Not only is the food frozen, mediocre and poorly handled, but the service sucks too. The cook yelled at my boyfriend and I in an attempt to ask us how our food was; she yelled out completed drinks like a stammering alcoholic yelling at a football game, then she yelled again when she burnt some other poor sap's croissant she was attempting to defrost. We had planned on sitting to research our camping options around Escalante, but had to leave the smoke filled cafe & "bakery", post-haste. read more

This is a sweet little spot for breakfast. The bacon and eggs are amazing! The lady behind the counter whips them right up for you. Coffee is good, hot cocoa is yummy. Mostly, go for the local atmosphere. read more

This place is great! Been here 4 times this week and plan on going more. It's small, and Kanab doesn't have a ton of options, so you may have to wait in line for a couple few minutes depending on when you go. The burritos are great and I think the coffee is too. I've stopped here twice for breakfast. The southwest burrito was just okay. Could use a kick and some seasoning. Latte was good. I had the onion bagel & sunflower bagel. Both had excessive oil on them. Also I asked it to go, but it was not toasted. The Guy just put cream cheese on it. I had the almond poppy seed muffin, which was perfect! Staff here are not really friendly, but had alot of customers both times I was there. read more

Friendly, accommodating staff with great food. I had the bacon breakfast sandwich on a croissant with an iced latte (& yes they had almond milk). Both were delicious! The egg was cooked with basil, which gave it a nice tang. My boyfriend had the breakfast burrito minus the ham (no vegetarian option) but he was done before I even started. I honestly don't know why there were bad reviews. This places is a fine establishment with a cosy atmosphere. Meals around $4-$7, our table had the breakfast sandwich and the breakfast burrito. Terrific little cafe, breakfast-brunch style with indoor and outdoor seating (a bit of street noise at the outdoor tables). Baked from scratch muffins, bagels, cookies. I had the specialty breakfast ($6.95) including scrambled eggs with delicious seasoning. Nice! You can build your own sandwich. First I'll say that the coffee is good. The blueberry muffin tasted great but I experienced massive gastric pain a half hour later. My guess is that there likely was annatto in the blueberry muffin to which I'm allergic. Having a said that, I don't know for sure that it was annatto that caused that reaction or something else. The real reason I'm writing today though is the situation in the kitchen area. The owner (?) has a young baby in the kitchen sitting on the counter in an infant seat. In addition to the baby being a distraction to all who are trying to work there, the baby easily reaches the coffee mugs. My first concern is that this little one is going to get hurt. My second concern is the lack of hygiene in this situation. Baby's hand in mouth, now baby's hand is all over someone's coffee mug. No masks, no sanitary measures, no social distancing whatsoever. So why did I eat here? Because I couldn't find anything else open. The serious lack of hygiene in the building combined with my severe gastric distress will cause me to never go back. Why the Kanab Dept of Health isn't managing the situation with an infant in the food prep area is beyond me. Before anyone gets all offended about single mom's needing to work, trust me, I was a single mom, but having a child in an environment where it risks the child's well-being along with the wellbeing of others is not a solution. This place was alright. They were the only place we,could find serving coffee before 11am so we were super grateful. They spelled esspresso "expresso"... So make what you want of that. But it was decent and the lady at the counter was super cheerful. read more

Lovely little cafe. A solid and reasonable place for breakfast. Who knew sunflower seeds are good on bagels?

We wanted a light breakfast and had heard good things about Jakey Leigh's so we stopped in there on a visit to Kanab. They have the best onion bagels this side of New York. (My husband's kept him full until supper). The taste is complex and a tad (I think) eggy. The latte was so good that I could drink it without adding sugar. (Generally, although I like coffee, I need to doctor it with a lot of fake sugar in order to drink it, because it is bitter. This latte was not at all bitter). Came for coffees and breakfast. Service was friendly and accommodating as I made a varied order. Firstly, coffee was very good! Strong and well roasted. Food was ok, nothing amazing but nothing wrong with it. It's relatively cheap ish but it's also very small portions so you get what you pay for. I had a bagel with cream cheese, egg and vegetables which somehow came to about $10?! My boyfriend had breakfast sandwich. These two and two coffees cost $24. Would probably just get a muffin/scone next time as they looked nice and cheaper. read more

So much opportunity was missed! With a great store front, this could be a great place to grab morning coffee. But... - Dirty - Extremely bad customer service - Health code violations everywhere The poor little Highschool girl had no idea how to handle the handful of customers in the shop. She was obviously overwhelmed which led to her being rude. The older lady who was on breakfast duty did not bother to jump in and did not wash her hands or use gloves while rolling the breakfast burritos or handling the bagels. Let's also not forget how gross everything was and how obvious it was that nothing was being cleaned on a consistent basis. After reading the reviews my daughter and I were really excited to have breakfast on a Sunday. We arrived @ 10:00am and did not have a great experience. They were almost completely out of everything, the counter person forgot to make our drinks which tasted very watered down, tasteless and not like espresso at all. We waited for over 20min before I had to remind the girl about our drinks. Taking orders on post-it note is very INEFFICIENT!!!!Tables had not been cleaned, dirty dishes piled up and the bathroom was very messy. Woman preparing food had ripped gloves. None of the emplomes were wearing a mask either although most of the customers were. We r in the middle of a pandemic and owners should b more considerate of their customers. read more

This place has so much potential! The couple running the place were sweet and I can appreciate how hard it is to run a business but a few suggestions- The patio could use some shade. Please do not handle food without gloves if you're also working the register- that is so gross! The breakfast sandwich here is decent in taste and price. Would not recommend the scones, unless you like a bread consistency. IMO - They could really beef it up a little and create more of a gourmet experience by adding a little more to the sandwich and encouraging the egg to be a little messier than just over hard. When I asked for silverware I was met with an eye roll because if I would have ordered my food like they normally make it, I wouldn't have needed silverware. The place is fun if you like no frills and kind of a snarky atmosphere because of the service, books and signs/posters hanging around. Maybe they had someone call in sick when I visited but if not, they were swamped and only had 2 people working. It left a lot of customers waiting for their morning beverages. They do have local hike brochures out for the taking which is really nice. They have a shaded patio area as well where we sat and enjoyed our breakfast with our dog! There were several other dogs on the patio so I would think it's safe to say, Jakey Leigh's is dog friendly. read more

The owner was less than pleasant and helpful, and acted like I'd interrupted her important task of standing still when I asked what the baked goods in the case were because nothing was labeled. We had a chocolate chip scone which tasted of leavening agent and not much else, and an apple cinnamon muffin which was quite possible the blandest thing I'd ever eaten. My husband said the coffee was good. I had a hot chocolate which was 2x the price of a coffee for some low quality skim milk and hershey's syrup. Unfortunately, it wasn't until after ordering that I realized this place was a health inspector's nightmare. No one was handling anything with gloves, the tongs were being used for everything, they were using particle board as a food prep surface, there were dusty phonebooks taped together on the food prep bench, and what I could see of the kitchen was a disaster. Skip it - go to the local grocery store and get something prepared with more care and better service. read more

Best cafe in town. Friendly atmosphere, casual seating, great view of mountains, small town feel. Such a great place to bring your dog and kids and enjoy some delicious food. We have not eaten lunch here but it is probably pretty dang good too. Great service and amazing food. read more

What a cute little small town shop. You might think you are visiting a friend for coffee. If you are local your friends might already be here. We wanted a bagel and coffee and this seems like it might be the only place in town. Well that will take more investigation, so for now I guess it is the top choice. They make the baked goods in small batches and seem to sell out. So come early! Why do they sell out? Look at the stove. It looks like one that would be in your home. To funny! So small town and bend the rules and your mind and enjoy friendly attentive service from the locals. read more
