If ever there was a stereotypical one horse town diner, this is it and I LOVE IT! When I walked in, literally everyone was giving the "Who is this guy? He isn't from around here." look. Don't be fooled. This reminds me of home and in no way is this anything threatening. It's just what we small town folk do when we somebody we don't recognize in our regular hangouts. The staff was on the spot all morning and very friendly. The food was brought out quickly, served hot and was delicious. Coffee mugs were kept full for the duration of the meal. What more could you ask for right? The menu is small and basic. If you're looking for artsy pictures and a pretty setting with 100 different pancake, French toast and omelette options... find a big Greek diner or a bougie café. This is a small old school place full of hardworking and retired locals. A true eggs, meat and potatoes place and they do it so well. Now for the pricing... Ho humm... food costs have been bonkers since the virus. It costs a fortune to even go out for a simple breakfast.... Unless you go to Jak's!!! Two of us had full breakfasts, coffee and water for LESS THAN $15!!! It has been years since I've been anywhere for breakfast and paid less than $25 for two people. What are you waiting for? When you think of small town breakfast spot this is exactly what you would have in mind. Large selection on menu, HUGE portions, at a very low price. It does get crowded at times which is expected with how good it is. Only complaint I have, it's one of those places where you walk in and seat yourself (which is totally fine) but I didn't know that (don't recall seeing a sign) so I stood there like an idiot for a bit until I figured out to sit somewhere. Traditional breakfast at it's finest. Everything was cooked to order, and executed perfectly. Everything has great taste, and I couldn't find one thing that I would have done differently myself. Coffee was fresh, tasty and filled regularly. The Coca-Cola out of the fountain was probably some of the best fountain Coke I have had anywhere lately. Monday was my first trip to Jak's. Jak's is a homey, classic American diner with normal size portion and fair prices. They only serve breakfast and lunch. The staff is friendly and attentive and addressed many of the patrons by name, giving the place a kind of Cheersy feel; I half expected Norm and Cliff to walk through the door. This place is a diamond in the ruff. We were staying at the Bear Mountain Resort and stubbled upon Jak's Downtown Diner. It is not your typical restaurant style place, but is so cozy. The food was so delicious and can't beat the price for the amount of food you get. Let's not forget the service, oh my gosh Misty!!! She was very attentive to every table. We went for breakfast.. My wife had eggs Benedict cooked perfect. I thought the Benedict sauce was a little flat.. needed a little salt and spice but it was still really good. I had eggs sunny side up home fries and bacon.. my eggs were awesome had the nice crispy bottom and no hard yoke.. home fries were home fries nothing special.. bacon was crispy like bacon should be.. Total bill was 10 bucks so It was well worth it. They also have SWEET TEA which is hard to find in the northern states... All in all I would definitely go back.. read more

First of all, I'm going to state the obvious here: this is a community joint, and my expectations when I go there to breakfast are not to get fancy-schmancy stuff-- my expectations are to get a good, cheap breakfast. And that's what I get! I come here semi-regularly with a group of friends, and I always appreciate the fact that we have the same waitress who knows that I don't drink coffee (I'm a sweet tea guy)-- and that makes me feel super-welcome. As far as the food goes, the special is a great deal; but, since I'm trying to cut down on the carbs, I've also fallen in love with the Western omelet. I like it all. The eggs are always great, the value is solid, and the potatoes are always flavorful. They keep the sweet tea coming with a smile on their faces. I've been a few times when--wait for it--they're full because they're too popular. But, hey, that just means that lesser eateries get my money for that morning. I recommend eating during the week because, on the weekend, you may have to wait. I love that they have a card that you can get stamped for a free breakfast too. Jak's is my kind of place. read more

The Good: Nice people... cute little place... good prices... decent omelets... decent coffee... and no televisions, thank God! (Why does it seem like so many restaurant owners nowadays think that people need to watch the damned TV every second of the day?) The Bad: Annoying loud (country radio) music (I don't enjoy eating listening to blaring commercials)... no fresh fruit, not even bananas (whoever heard of a diner without bananas?) , mushy oatmeal, and the most tasteless, limp waffles covered in gloppy, apparently canned fruit gel you could imagine. They could fix these issues overnight and I hope they do. Heck, what does it take to buy bananas and strawberries? A good place that needs some minor tweaking. I wish them all the best. read more

Came in to order take out in the middle of the day. By the time I got home, the food was still piping hot, and my fries were still crispy. I ordered a mushroom burger on special, which was cooked to the correct temperature, and moist. I just wish the fries were a little more salty, but that is up to personal preference. employees in front of house were quick, but professional. Was visiting my son and we came here for breakfast. The deals are excellent and portions were huge. Four of us ate for about $22 and the food was excellent. It's a nice homey looking place, more like someone's house than a diner and I love that. I wish I lived closer, but I'm glad my son does! Everyone was very friendly too, which is always nice when visiting a local place and you're not a regular. Mediocre at the most. We were told by locals that the hot sandwiches couldn't be beat. The hot roast turkey sandwich contained real turkey....not processed lunch meat. Portion was good. The grilled smoke sausage was dried out and the lettuce was old for the salad. Chicken soup was ok, but was more of a gravy the a broth. Service was slow and it wasn't very busy. If you're in a pinch for a bite to eat I suppose it would ok to stop. read more
