This place has a frickin' awesome cheezburger aka Jak's burger with fries. Srsly, I was pleasantly surprised... I cannot pinpoint what exactly makes it stand out from The Rest. I know it just had lots of flavor; perhaps some invisible seasoning or w/e. My medium(?)/rare(?) was darn near perfect. This was finger-lickin' good! Can you finger lick a Happy Hour? Oh, and I was once again carded. Woot for indirect compliments! =D Neat style and design; one ding is the foot bar along the bar doesn't go all the way to the wall along the window side... the counter extends past it so you have to give your stool an extra jiggle foot-bar-less to scoot up. Came here for my friend's birthday dinner and brought a cake in advance, they were extremely accommodating and helped bring the cake out/cut it when it was ready! The hostess was very sweet, and our server was very attentive. I got the lamb bolognese and my boyfriend had the prime rib dip, we both finished our plates clean. it's not often i sit at a bar needing to drown my sorrows but things have been rough in the country and world as of late. when the news is full of horrific events and you're juggling processing all of it with the various things going on in your personal and professional life, sometimes it means you need to blow off some steam and treat yourself. the visit to jak's was just that at the end of a tough week. the service we received at the bar was awesome. very attentive bartenders and great food. we ordered gin and tonics and, at times, had both bartenders watching in case we needed to follow up with a second or third round. in terms of the food we ordered, we decided to split the veggie skewers that come atop the famed potato pancakes. at the last minute, we added an order of brussel sprouts. the latter were unbelievably tasty, with an umami aspect (probably due to the anchovies mixed into the glaze they are roasted with.) the bartender we interacted with more throughout the evening was sweet enough to have the skewers and pancakes served on separate plates so we didn't have to do that uncomfortable shuffling of food or plates from one to another once it arrived. that was a thoughtful touch. after we'd been talking, eating and drinking for almost 1.5 hours and had asked for the check, the bartender (wish i had asked his name) approached us to ask about our meal, if he could get us anything else and how we were doing. given what's been going on in the country and world, we all commiserated about how difficult these times are and how important yet challenging it is to process what we're all feeling. it was a genuine moment that i appreciated; it really cemented at the end of our evening that taking a moment to engage with others, recognizing the need for people to stop and care for one another can make a huge difference in one's day. all in all, the food and drink were great but the personalized attention from the bartender sealed the deal in terms of bringing some positivity to a rough week. read more

Jak's is a West Seattle classic that I grew up eating at. The hidden extra large Porterhouse is my go-to. I feel for restaurants during COVID. I'll be soft on the rating and a bit more critical with my words. Server - kind and friendly. I expected not to get a table until our full party came. It's always been like that. Never understood why since the restaurant was emptied than years past. Waiter - attentive and polite. He did give our salads before we had cutlery. Bizarre. Solid on the water game. Leaving a water jar on the table is a welcomed addition to Jak's. Ambiance - the same. I never liked the wood booths. Hard on the bum. It's always been like that though. Food - had the Prime Rib medium rare with sweet potato fries. I felt it came a bit cold. What maddened me to no end was how full the steak knives were. It was seriously stressful to cut the meat. I believe the larger $50 version is unnecessary unless you want leftovers. Go for the $30. Despite the knives, I feel the cut was rough. The au jus sauce was decent. I enjoyed the simplicity of the broccoli and carrot. The sweet potato fries had a unique flavor to them. The Yorkshire Pudding was delicious. Another person at the table got the large Prime Rib as well. Would I get it again? No. It's worth a try for $30 if you happen to be there on a Monday night. But I feel the rack of lamb special they have then may be better. My dad got a cold smoked ribeye. I understand sous vide meats. But to cold smoke sure a good cut? Tasted like it was marinated in liquid smoke. It was a tough cut too. Sad. The camarones another person at my table got was impressive. Better than all the three other dishes. Of course the sourdough bread is always a winner. The change was that you have to ask for it now. All in all, check out Jak's if you're in WS. read more

I love this restaurant and the staff. I have been in west Seattle for 6 years now and this is my family's go to. We LOVE every single worker from the hostess,bartenders to the amazing wait staff. The steaks are above average and the brunch is beyond delightful. You basically cannot order a bad dish. I love the cowboy ribeye, fillet Oscar and the steak dip. We've been fans of Jak's in West Seattle (and Laurelhurst - RIP) for many years, whether for brunch, happy hour or dinner. But the team in West Seattle just ratcheted our respect to a new level in hosting a surprise 30th-birthday brunch for our son and 21 friends. The manager (Scott), our server (Carrie) and the rest of the staff were flawless in planning and pulling off the meal. I'm surprised this place got 4 stars. It's a very loud place with mediocre food that costs a lot. First, drink - hot toddy was nothing but overly sweetened hot water with bunch of alcohol. The drink didn't have any spice or sourness to it. In addition there was a dead bug in my drIt was the worst hot toddy I've ever had. Second, the food - the main course comes with salad, choice of potato and protein. I could not eat my salad. The taste and smell wasn't really good. The quality of greens was poor too. Spicy grilled shrimps dish was not too horrible - huge dish with a giant piece of steamed broccoli. Shrimps were very chewy not sure why. The souse was too oily and not as spicy as I expected. Mashed potato was good but overwhelming to the dish making it too heavy. It's really not a place to have a good food experience. This place is a fancy version of any American diner. read more

My family and I had a great experience here! It was my first time here and I don't know much about steak cutts, but Tony (our server) explained every steak to us. I ordered the filet mignon, and it comes with a bunch of sides. The server recommended the "ufo" as one side and to sub out the broccoli for crispy Brussels sprouts. I was really excited about trying this place for my best friends birthday dinner, but sadly it wasn't up to par with what we were expecting. I've ordered the side of Mac and cheese, ribeye steak, and a side of mushrooms and to be honest it was really underwhelming. The Mac and cheese tasted like Kraft box Mac and cheese to me. Side of mushrooms were just OK. The mashed potatoes were actually good and satisfying but the main dish ribeye steak definitely needed seasoning!! Literally just tasted like bland meat.. even adding hot sauce to it didn't help. My group and I agreed we could've cooked this all at home and it would've tasted better and have more food for us. Quite disappointed in the service, ambiance and experience. Server was terribly slow, took forever to get drinks, food, and refills. You would expect more from a place like this. In fact, another server actually asked us if we were being helped because we were sitting there with no attention. Ambiance was on the loud side, especially since one of the bussers dropped an entire stack of plates, silverware, and glasses right next to our table which shattered all over. No apologies from the slow server or the loud busser. We were hoping to try a few courses including a steak, but by the time our order was taken it was so late that we opted for burgers. They were great, but a second (and necessary) choice due to the issues with service - we would have otherwise been there 3 hours. In a welcoming and diverse neighborhood like West Seattle, we would have also expected that the host might have avoided assuming that we were father and son (we are husband and husband for 25 years and politely corrected him). While he apologized and was attentive to the table locale we wanted, we probably would have forgotten about that first impression had the subsequent service been better. read more

So disappointed with our meals last Saturday. We paid extra for the onion rings because they've always been a favorite at Jak's. They were so burnt they were dry and gross. While the burger meat itself was juicy, it literally had barely a teaspoon of the aioli leaving it dry in the end as well. We asked for blue cheese dressing to dip our dry over cooked onion rings in and were then patronized by the manager for having a "ranch dressing" party at the table. I believe he was trying to joke but I should have said it's actually watery blue cheese to drown our pathetic dry onion rings and dry burger with. JaK's Grill in West Seattle is one of my favorite steakhouses in the Seattle area, especially south/west of Seattle. I've always appreciated how JaK's is a reasonably priced steakhouse, compared to everywhere else. Maybe it doesn't feature stuff like A5 Japanese beef, but it doesn't matter - the steaks JaK's serves are great. I love the thickness of the steak and the fact that they have a nice char to them. There's a good mixture of salty, fatty, and meaty, with a hint of the char from the grill as well. It makes for a really flavorful steak. I thoroughly enjoy them. I've only seen it on the menu once, I believe it was a rotating special appetizer, but one thing that I've tried there that I really enjoyed was an Ahi Tuna tostada. The Ahi Tuna was raw, had a little avocado, and a sauce on it. It was an unexpected treat. The decor/inside of JaK's has a classic steakhouse vibe, almost similar to The Met or Melrose. Other good stuff, especially during lunch, is the steak sandwich. Definitely worth getting if you're wanting something other than just a steak. I love JaK's. It's a classic Junction/West Seattle restaurant. Can't wait to go back. read more

Used to be an easy 5. But their new menu has ruined things. My favorite thing on their menu was the NY Steak Sandwich with fries. My wife and I went there last night and it is no longer on the menu. My 2nd favorite thing on their menu was the Lobster Mac and Cheese. No longer on the menu either. The menu is much smaller now. The food was really delicious. The atmosphere is nice. On 2/13/2020 we sat in the front upper seating area. The hostess was friendly. Our waitress not so much. She is the reason I didn't give a full 5 stars. She was not very friendly or personable. She came across very annoyed to have to take our order. Was not engaging at all and not once smiled to make us feel welcome. I'll go back for the food. But hopefully she either won't be our waitress anymore or she won't last long there. I've been going to Jaks for years, and usually feel that you get a decent steak with a side and a salad for a fair price. Tonight's experience was very poor. I ordered the cowboy ribeye 22oz bone in for $44. When I received the steak, i first noticed the flavor was different from what I'm used to. I was told by my server (the bartender) that it was probably the coffee rub, and if I wanted shed get me a butter sauce for it, I declined. The next thing I noticed was how difficult it was to cut. I often order ribeye because of their tenderness and flavor. Not only was the flavor off, but it was full of grissel to the point that only half the steak was edible. I stopped by here for the Yelp breakfast club one Sunday morning. We all sat at the bar since it was a pretty small group. The brunch happy hour deals were very affordable. I didn't take advantage of them though since they all involved egg dishes. Instead, I got the waffle with bacon. That was quite a tasty waffle! It was better than Kingfish's waffle. It didn't have any chicken on the side, but it was BETTER since it had baaaacon! It was served with whipped cream and a couple of sliced strawberries on top. It comes with a side of maple syrup, but it didn't need it with the whipped cream on top. Our bartender was friendly, attentive, and engaging. There was a "regular" older gentleman who was waiting there with us when the door opened. Apparently he's there about 6x per week, and he sat next to us at the bar. He's a really nice guy if you see him there and want to chat him up :) I'd be back. I heard their dinner happy hour deals are really reasonable and delicious too, so we'll stop by sometime. read more

My boyfriend brought me here for valentines day last year , and I had such an amazing experience! I had the ribeye and DAMN, it was the best steak I've ever had! I would recommend it to everyone! They did the best job cooking it, the flavors were on point and the meat just melted in my mouth! One year later and I can still taste it! My boyfriend ordered the prime top sirloin. The menu said that it was "Kens favorite" so my boyfriend trusted that, but was disappointed. I tried it, and I mean it wasn't the best cut of meat but it wasn't rubbery either. If you want that melt in your mouth goodness spend a few dollars more and go for the other choices like the filet, ribeye or new York strip. We also ordered onion rings and they were yummy too. On top of that, the service was amazing! The lady was super knowledgeable and was patient with us. I was unsure of what wine to drink and she offered me a sample glass of some red wine. Love it! On top of that, the booths are private and the lights are low. Its a great atmosphere! I usually like to eat at a place a few more times before writing a review, but this place was amazing!
