Always a favorite. Service is prompt & courteous. Visited on an Autumn Saturday 2025. This location is less busy albeit I do enjoy the local freshness. Thank you to our server! Enjoy!

First off, I expected to have to wait a long time because it was a Friday morning. It was actually not long of a weight at all. We got sat really quickly. The other location would have a wait of 1 to 2 hours. I also think it's really cute that they have decorations with pictures of their ingredient providers. I think the food here versus the other location is so much better because they put more time into it because they don't have as much business. The food was absolutely delicious and the fruit bar had a lot of extra stuff that the other one doesn't. It had almonds, coconut, etc. Their gravy was also more gravy-like and not as thick as the other location. This place felt better as a breakfast place and I will be coming back as soon as I can.

    Phil's Breakfast (gf)* w/pork sausage

I had reservations for a Saturday lunch. For a Saturday, it wasn't too busy. Was able to plave our order within 10min of being seated. The food came out fairly quick. We had the Phil's breakfast as the savory part of our brunch. The potatoes were cooked nice- wish there was a little bit more seasoning in them but it was still good. The highlight- the berry bar. You're able to go to the berry bar one time if you've ordered anything from the French toast side of the menu. The in house made whipped cream is what keeps me coming back! Delicious! Varieties of berries to load up on.

Challah bread French Toast with a trip to the Berry Bar

This is our 1st trip to the West Seattle Portage Bay Cafe, and we were not disappointed. I love breakfast food like eggs, bacon, sausage, and potatoes are some of my favorites, but the Portage Bay berry bar usually turns my head away from my usual go to orders and I find myself strategically analyzing the menu for how I can economically get the best of both worlds while balancing my wife's demands to share... We were happy to find that if we worked together with her getting the Rancher's breakfast with sausage & pancakes (+1 berry bar trip) and I went for the French toast with a side of bacon (yes, I got my own Berry Bar trip) and I got to share HER breakfast... The berry bar was excellent as always The Challah was good, but seemed a bit not quite up to what I would expect, just not as much flavor as I anticipated, but with all the extras I was very happy. The kid got the Smash Burger with his usual conditions...meat cheese bread...so no sauce, no veg, just burger beechers cheese the bun and of course add bacon. He really liked his burger, great job on this one. The beautiful and too good for me wife (shhhh...) had the Rancher's breakfast. She did drop one of the sausages but it was Chicken sausage so I was ok... She said everything was really good. She really loved the eggs with the available hot sauces, the salad was really fresh and delicious, and the pancakes were great. Overall we had a great trip, the server was very attentive, always keeping our drinks, especially my coffee filled. We will start to make this as more of a regular thing. Thank you Portage Bay!

Subpar, $22 for an oz of under seasoned beef in a skillet that was clearly baked. I've never had a skillet come out not sizzling. And it was mostly potatoes and peas. Why were their peas in here? Overpriced for what it was. For a seasonal special I definitely expected more. Towards the end, no one came to check us out as we had to wave down the waiter. Unfortunately this felt just one step above dennys or ihop. At least this dish.

We met my folks for a late brunch on Sunday. We reserved a table at 1:45, not knowing that the place would be closing at 2:00. It wasn't terrible--there were still a number of folks in the place when we arrived--but the place closed up around us, making us feel a little rushed at the end. As always, the food at Portage Bay is really good. I ordered the Breakfast Sandwich. They were out of the potato bread that they typically used, so they substituted wheat. Their wheat bread is quite good, and worked well with the sandwich. The side of potatoes was also tasty. My dad ordered Joe's Scramble, and my mom the Buddha bowl. They both really liked them. My girlfriend ordered Shakshuka, which she really liked, although she commented that it was *really* spicy. FYI, both the Shakshuka and Buddha Bowl are vegetarian. We ordered a scone as an appetizer before our meal, which we split 4 ways. It was tasty, but also nearly frozen, and hard as a rock. It would be better if served at room temperature. When we arrived, the music they were playing (Taylor Swift's Antihero) was so loud it was hard to talk with one another. My girlfriend had gone to the restroom shortly after we arrived and reported that the volume in the bathrooms was 10x louder, ear-splittingly loud. Why the loud music? This is a brunch place that people go to have a quiet meal and visit; it's not a discotheque. I was also disappointed that the drink I wanted to try, their ginger beer, was out when we arrived. They were also out of my second choice, the hoppy cider. So I ultimately ended up with water.

4.5 stars. Brunch at Portage Bay cafe with their famous self~serve fruit bar seems like a Seattle must-do! They opened a location in West Seattle in the Junction - it's the only Portage Bay location I've been to so I don't know if the space is smaller or bigger than others, but it's a pretty narrow space. I arrived shortly after 1p (they close at 2p on Saturdays) and the place was BUSY. I was able to get a seat at the bar and ordered a half order of the oatmeal cobbler french toast. The menu is pretty big and they have LOTS of sweet and savory breakfast options. There were a couple of french toast options and pancake options. (The Swedish pancakes were the other item i considered ordering.) Maybe because it was so busy, but it took like a while to get my french toast - maybe 15 minutes. Once you get your food, you can take your plate to the fruit bar. (You only get one visit to the fruit bar, so plan accordingly!) There is whipped cream, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and then what looked like canned peaches and one more fruit but not sure what it was. On the other side they had toppings like almonds, brown sugar, golden raisins, choco chips, walnuts, and maybe dried coconut. I loaded up on the fresh blueberries and strawberries and added a dollop of whipped cream to my french toast. The french toast was pretty good. Even the half order was enormous. I don't know how many could finish the full order by themselves- definitely something to split with someone. The berry compote it came with was really sweet but delicious. The server (I think her name was Leslie and she was wonderful!!!) recommended i get the compote and the lemon creme anglais on the side which i did and im glad i did cuz both were so sweet that i didn't use all of it. The bread was fluffy. It was fun to try! I liked the ambiance of this place. Would be a good place to bring visitors from out of town. Good variety of menu options plus the fruit bar is fun and different and the staff is great.

Quality food and service!! Thoroughly enjoyed the patio vibes and the detail of adding optional blankets to keep customers cozy. The mean business when it comes to there brunch experiences. All of the usually brunch suspects, plus new concepts that work well. I enjoyed my friend toast and trio to the berry bar. Thoroughly appreciated the robustness and juiciest of the smash burger and potatoes. Just visiting Seattle, but if I lived there they would make a regular customer out of me.

Absolutely phenomenal breakfast, ambiance, service, I loved it all!!

My friend and I had a delicious breakfast here. It was my first time at the West Seattle location and I was not disappointed! My friend ordered the vegan pancakes and I got the challah French toast with jam and juniper nut butter off their specials menu. We also got a side of eggs, mushrooms, and potatoes for some savory flavor. Everything tasted great! This location is on the smaller side compared to the SLU and Roosevelt ones, but the service was friendly and efficient! I love Portage Bay and am so glad they have this location a little closer to the South Sound area!

Vegan Huevos Rancheros (veg) (gf) - subbed eggs with Just Egg and added chipotle vegan meat substitute and avocado, removed cheese
    Susan W.

I was pleasantly surprised by the vegan breakfast options here! There's only a few listed vegan options but you veganize many items, for example you can sub Just Egg for any egg dishes and just remove cheese as needed. I really enjoyed the vegan version of the Huevos Rancheros. The vegan hash was good but it was very healthy so you need to be in the mood for that! (Sometimes you just want to be a decadent junky vegan). I was impressed with the mushrooms and veggies in the hash, strong taste of rosemary so make sure you like that flavor. Portions were large and both of us had to bring home leftovers. I'd love to come back and try their vegan pancakes!

I've tried the big names like Metropolitan, Capital Grille, John Howie, and The Butcher's Table, but this place remains my favorite for a true American steakhouse experience. We actually drove to the old location first, saw the sign, and then headed over to the new spot just a short distance away. I usually go to the Issaquah location, but this time we visited West Seattle. The old space had a cozy charm, while the new one feels much more modern. The happy hour menu has changed a bit, but we still enjoyed a glass of house red, mac & cheese, and a Caesar salad before sharing a 14oz ribeye. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium‑rare, and the bartender was genuinely friendly. Even the house red was better than expected. Issaquah still wins for me but we still had a great night eating, laughing, and catching up. Happy hour runs 4-6pm at the bar only, and our ribeye came with one side for $68. And if you haven't tried their brunch yet, it's surprisingly good.

The hash browns were crispy on the top, and raw underneath. Tip: if you ever order breakfast in Seattle, ask for the hash browns to be cooked on both sides. The meal was filling and was accompanied by a cup of good coffee. The waitress was super friendly and came by often to refill my coffee.
