I had a highly confusing and disappointing experience at Jak's today. I have been to this establishment many times, and it has always been a place where I felt welcome. During this visit, I was sitting at the bar with a group of friends and ordered a drink, and then the second. From the very get-go, the General Manager (who is new) was questioning us about the two empty seats next to us, and we politely let her know they were being saved for friends who were arriving soon. The service from our bartender was great, and there were absolutely no issues. However, after I stepped outside for a brief moment to smoke and returned, this same General Manager completely OUT OF THE BLUE told me I was no longer welcome at the bar- EVER AGAIN. She didn't explain why she was issuing a permanent ban, and when I asked for a reason, she refused to provide one. I truly have no idea why she did it. I couldn't even push further for an explanation because I could instantly feel that she would call the cops on me for no reason, as she affirmed. I was entirely respectful, quiet, and well-behaved during my visit, which the bar staff even confirmed afterward. It is incredibly unprofessional for a General Manager to arbitrarily target and permanently ban a paying, respectful customer out of NOWHERE without cause or explanation. I hope ownership looks into how this GM treats customers, as this behavior is completely unacceptable. I feel COMPLETELY disrespected by how this was handled. Both myself and ALL of my friends who were there felt the exact same way - her behavior was so completely baffling and uncalled for that if I could give 0 stars for her actions alone, I would. As a loyal and valuable customer who has always supported this business, being targeted and thrown out out of nowhere without cause is entirely unacceptable. I EXPECT a call from ownership or upper management to explain this situation and address the General Manager's unprofessional behavior. I WILL NOT LET THIS GO, believe me. Thank you. read more

A classic Seattle steakhouse that's been around for nearly 30 years -- and still my personal pick for value. I've tried the big names like Metropolitan, Capital Grille, John Howie, and The Butcher's Table, but this place remains my favorite for a true American steakhouse experience. We actually drove to the old location first, saw the sign, and then headed over to the new spot just a short distance away. I usually go to the Issaquah location, but this time we visited West Seattle. The old space had a cozy charm, while the new one feels much more modern. The happy hour menu has changed a bit, but we still enjoyed a glass of house red, mac & cheese, and a Caesar salad before sharing a 14oz ribeye. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium‑rare, and the bartender was genuinely friendly. Even the house red was better than expected. Issaquah still wins for me but we still had a great night eating, laughing, and catching up. Happy hour runs 4-6pm at the bar only, and our ribeye came with one side for $68. And if you haven't tried their brunch yet, it's surprisingly good. read more

We have been coming to Jak's in West Seattle for almost 10 years. They just moved across the street to their new location. Overall it is a nice space converted from a previous Sports Bar. It is a bit scaled up from its previous space but we did find the old space cozier though. Service was fine although the server didn't anticipate very well. It was my wife's birthday and it was barely acknowledged. In the past they would celebrate it. Not the end of the world, but it is these nice touches that make a difference. Okay, now for the meal. For starters, we used to get sourdough bread with butter included in the meal. They now have a bread plate from Macrina which is $9 and it comes with oil/vinegar that was not very good at all and infused butter? Sometimes a restaurant tries to hard to upscale or add offerings to generate more $ on the ticket, but this time it failed. My favorite dinner salad thousand island dressing is gone now too. The sides have been reduced in size while prices for items such as oscar style have gone up. So, the reason why I still gave a 3 star is for the steaks. It is the one thing that fortunately stands out. Cooked well and very tasty. Just not good enough to compensate for the other downgrades. We will need to think before we might return. Love Jaks and their happy hour. Still miss the HH burger on the menu though. Staff super friendly and very attentive. For some of the dishes (like calamari or arachini, I personally like be some more acidity, like lemon or something extra. Otherwise, good go-to in West Seattle. We've been loyal Jak's Grill customers for years, so it's tough to write this review. Some of our favorites have always been the crab cakes, steak bites with gorgonzola, and the bourbon pork chop. Unfortunately, our latest visit was a letdown. The crab cakes came with a new sauce that didn't complement them the way the old preparation did. Bread, which used to be complimentary, is now $8, and meals no longer come with seasonal vegetables - only a single side with noticeably smaller portions (my mashed potatoes looked like two spoonfuls). The biggest issue was my husband's pork chop. It arrived sliced, with multiple pieces visibly raw in the middle. Raw pork is a serious health hazard, and while the plate was taken back to the kitchen, it was simply overcooked and returned without a proper apology or adjustment on the bill. A dessert was offered instead, which missed the point entirely. Our server was polite and did his best, but overall, the experience fell far short of the Jak's we used to love. Based on what I've read, we're not the only ones noticing these changes. It feels like the restaurant is trying to "fix" what wasn't broken, and quality has suffered. We'll think twice before returning unless we hear things have improved. read more

It was my first time visiting the new location. I live on the east side, but it was my cousin's birthday and I know it's his favorite one. It was cool to see the new set up. Service was amazing as usual! Great new vibe and easy to park. Love to see see cowboy style option on the menu as well as the UFO.. Used to have to be in the no about the secret menu. Finally got to try the new location! It's modern, spacious, and beautiful. The menu often changes so I love the fact that I get to try new items every time we visit. The linguine was amazing, definitely recommend! A bit sad they no longer serve complimentary bread and all steak orders no longer come with a side salad. Finally got to Jack's for a date night and wish we got there sooner! It did not disappoint. Service was good, food was delicious and drinks were spot on! Started with their crab cakes, with real crab! Then we shared a ceasar salad, nothing spectacular about it, but it was delicious. Obviously we had steaks for our entree, ribeye and filet with a side of garlic mashed potatoes and onion rings. The steaks were well cooked and seasoned. The sides were also yummy. Overpriced and really inconsistent quality/service The food is really inconsistent - I once got a great steak, so the next time I ordered the same thing as did my dining parter, both of our steaks were excessively bloody and raw (we both got food poisoning). Another time I got the mushroom ravioli and it was delicious, so I ordered it the next time and it was rubbery and different mushrooms than advertised on the menu. I got a burger once and got food poisoning again (when I opened the box with the leftovers and looked inside the burger the meat was pink and raw). Recently I ordered the beef wellington and it was really underwhelming (the meat was really chewy and stringy, mushroom layer was practically non-existent, the side of mashed potatoes was lucky if it was 3 mouthfuls, and also ordered a side of bread and the first piece was so hard and stale we couldn't even bite into it - nearly chipped a tooth). Since they have moved, their prices have gone up and their portions have gone down. Also their service in their new location is quite slow in inattentive (we waited over an hour once after ordering for our food) and multiple times have had to flag down servers after exceptionally long absences in order to get drinks, our bill, etc. They claim to offer a loyalty program, but in all the times I have been there, I have only been able to successfully add the points twice to my loyalty account - servers either say they don't know about it, or they claim to have added the bill but it never appears on their rewards account (ironically their app also says you can scan missed receipts into the app, but their receipts have to barcode or QR code to scan). I have even emailed their management to inquire, but I received no response. read more

Went out here for a family members birthday party and would say it was a nice meal. The atmosphere is lively and the place itself goes back a lot further than you would assume from the street. Front area bar has some tv's and games on and the back is a little more sectioned off with large booths and tables. Food was pretty good, not mind blowing but solid. Wound up getting the steak skewer with cheese sauce which could have been a little warmer but was overall tasty. Sides were good as well. My mom enjoyed her steak and it was rare to her liking which can be tough to find. Definitely a solid place for steak in the west Seattle area but the maybe not quite as elevated of an interior as you'd get from a classic statehouse. Great happy hour! We went there on a Friday night for their happy hour at the bar area. They have happy hour food and drinks Mon thru Friday 4pm-6pm. We arrived at 5:15pm and it was already quite busy. Their drinks and food were both solid and tasty. We ordered one salad to share, and they were very nice and split it into two plates for us. Profoundly disappointed to see a once favorite restaurant move to a service fee that does not go to servers. After our first visit here, we knew we would be back. Mondays are prime rib days and always a great way to start a week. The restaurant has a romantic cozy feeling with dimmed lights. Street parking is available with paid lots around the corner. The porterhouse for 2 is a great deal and enough to get you full. Steak was cooked to perfection and flavorful. We had been going to JAK's for years and loved it. Now it seems meh. We've been to the new location a few times, and I don't like the restaurant or the new menu as much as the old one. It's gone from being a traditional steakhouse to a pretentious cave. Service- good and attentive Food- burgers are still good. Can no longer get the delicious mushrooms on them. They come with the Beecher's sauce and you need to ask to sub it out if needed. Scallops- fewer scallops and now they come with this awful curry sauce instead of butter Entrees- used to come with more options including mushrooms cooked in garlic and butter- no more. Sourdough- used to come with dinner. Now it comes with a so-so sourdough from Macrina and butter for $8. If they went back to the old menu and offered more traditional steakhouse fare, I might be inclined to go back. PS It wasn't as crowded as it used to be on a Saturday night, so maybe they might realize they changed too much at once! read more

Sitting here finishing my meal and felt compelled to write a review. I haven't been here in years so I can't comment on the changes, the location is nice, no complaints. I had the signature burger (Brie/onion/arugula), Caesar salad, gin/chartreuse cocktail, then raspberry sorbet and fernet for dessert. It was all excellent, service was flawless, warm and friendly (thanks Gaylinn!) , and I didn't feel weird eating alone in my everyday clothes. It's everything you'd want in a very nice, casual but special meal. I have no idea what it cost. Probably too much, but life is short and these happy moments of delicious food are priceless. In Seattle for a few days. Checked with a few friends who are locals, and they all said that Jak's was a worthwhile stop for a steak. "Go to the Issaquah location." I, of course, being the contrarian, elected for West Seattle instead. Glad I made a reservation. There was a street faire (or is it "fair"?) or party that Friday night. It was tough to physically enter the restaurant. Once inside, noticed many fair attendees trying to get seated and their long waits for a tables. To repeat: Glad I made a reservation. Started with the wedge salad. Egggscellent. My NY strip cooked eggggsactly as requested. Beautiful char on the exterior, but red interior. Flavor, texture, and a happy patron. Chris ordered the boneless rib-eye and enjoyed that steak. The "breads and spreads" was wasted on us. We ate it all, as Jak's charges for the small plate, but it seemed kinda janky as the various spreads were mostly the same (just displayed in different poses). Connor, our server, never seemed to get the whole idea of pacing. He was on top of us and then disappeared for what seemed like 45 minutes when we needed (yes, needed) black pepper or a new utensil (I dropped my fork on the floor and it was so dark could not find it). Other staff, such as the bus-people, promised to send him over but my steak was gettin' old and cold. Eggggsacerbating. The total, with all the sides and booze, was reasonable until Jak's added the mandatory tip (common in Seattle, and here 20% of the pre-tax total). Maybe that eggggsplained why Connor was a bit too attentive early and then disappeared for that long stretch when we needed him most. Would go again, but maybe not on a busy Friday night. One last meal begins the move. Same great service, but we had not been here since the menu change up. Instead of the steak, coming with a potato selection, the vegetables, and a salad, it's potatoes or a salad, and no vegetables on the side. We did our own workaround and ordered a spinach salad to split and then ordered the New York steak with potato pancakes to split. This time, the potato pancakes were weirdly hard and overdone on the outside but still just like they should be in the middle. Steak cooked just right and seasoned well.
