    Macrina bread plate
    Tony P.

We have been coming to Jak's in West Seattle for almost 10 years. They just moved across the street to their new location. Overall it is a nice space converted from a previous Sports Bar. It is a bit scaled up from its previous space but we did find the old space cozier though. Service was fine although the server didn't anticipate very well. It was my wife's birthday and it was barely acknowledged. In the past they would celebrate it. Not the end of the world, but it is these nice touches that make a difference. Okay, now for the meal. For starters, we used to get sourdough bread with butter included in the meal. They now have a bread plate from Macrina which is $9 and it comes with oil/vinegar that was not very good at all and infused butter? Sometimes a restaurant tries to hard to upscale or add offerings to generate more $ on the ticket, but this time it failed. My favorite dinner salad thousand island dressing is gone now too. The sides have been reduced in size while prices for items such as oscar style have gone up. So, the reason why I still gave a 3 star is for the steaks. It is the one thing that fortunately stands out. Cooked well and very tasty. Just not good enough to compensate for the other downgrades. We will need to think before we might return. Enjoy!

Great place!!! The food was very tasty and the service was great! Definitely get the Brussels sprouts-some of the best I've had!! The vibe is nice with good night time lighting. Great for dates, friends, and families (although I wouldn't bring young kids here).

Love Jaks and their happy hour. Still miss the HH burger on the menu though. Staff super friendly and very attentive. For some of the dishes (like calamari or arachini, I personally like be some more acidity, like lemon or something extra. Otherwise, good go-to in West Seattle. The new location is really nice and more modern. Wish the tv's in the bar played more sound or cc captions so we know what's happening during a sports game.

We've been loyal Jak's Grill customers for years, so it's tough to write this review. Some of our favorites have always been the crab cakes, steak bites with gorgonzola, and the bourbon pork chop. Unfortunately, our latest visit was a letdown. The crab cakes came with a new sauce that didn't complement them the way the old preparation did. Bread, which used to be complimentary, is now $8, and meals no longer come with seasonal vegetables - only a single side with noticeably smaller portions (my mashed potatoes looked like two spoonfuls). The biggest issue was my husband's pork chop. It arrived sliced, with multiple pieces visibly raw in the middle. Raw pork is a serious health hazard, and while the plate was taken back to the kitchen, it was simply overcooked and returned without a proper apology or adjustment on the bill. A dessert was offered instead, which missed the point entirely. Our server was polite and did his best, but overall, the experience fell far short of the Jak's we used to love. Based on what I've read, we're not the only ones noticing these changes. It feels like the restaurant is trying to "fix" what wasn't broken, and quality has suffered. We'll think twice before returning unless we hear things have improved.

Tony was our server. The good was delicious. Crab cakes were tender and not over breaded. My beef Wellington was delicious. The tenderloin trio was good! Tony brought out bread, which was nice and then he gave us a crème brûlée with strawberries and that was absolutely superb! Thank you for a lovely evening! So glad we got to celebrate our 41st anniversary with you!!

It was my first time visiting the new location. I live on the east side, but it was my cousin's birthday and I know it's his favorite one. It was cool to see the new set up. Service was amazing as usual! Great new vibe and easy to park. Love to see see cowboy style option on the menu as well as the UFO.. Used to have to be in the no about the secret menu. They cook it to perfection. I did Pittsburgh style Was rare to medium rare. Highly recommend and looking forward to be back again soon with the new outdoor seating.

Finally got to try the new location! It's modern, spacious, and beautiful. The menu often changes so I love the fact that I get to try new items every time we visit. The linguine was amazing, definitely recommend! A bit sad they no longer serve complimentary bread and all steak orders no longer come with a side salad. Service is always great, they were able to squeeze us in for a walk in on a Friday night. Will try sitting at the new bar next time! Thanks, Jak's for another amazing dining experience!

Nice new location, modern and classy. Service was good. Steaks were great, no one in my group was upset, all loved their entrees. The only negative was the bread, it was the tougher variant, would have preferred something lighter and fluffier. Otherwise well worth it; good steak place readily close by for us West Seattle types.

The new location is wonderful! Tables are spacious, atmosphere is perfect. 10/10. We sat at the bar and had the best Friday night. Food and service was great!

Food poisoning after eating the burger

Overpriced and really inconsistent quality/service The food is really inconsistent - I once got a great steak, so the next time I ordered the same thing as did my dining parter, both of our steaks were excessively bloody and raw (we both got food poisoning). Another time I got the mushroom ravioli and it was delicious, so I ordered it the next time and it was rubbery and different mushrooms than advertised on the menu. I got a burger once and got food poisoning again (when I opened the box with the leftovers and looked inside the burger the meat was pink and raw). Recently I ordered the beef wellington and it was really underwhelming (the meat was really chewy and stringy, mushroom layer was practically non-existent, the side of mashed potatoes was lucky if it was 3 mouthfuls, and also ordered a side of bread and the first piece was so hard and stale we couldn't even bite into it - nearly chipped a tooth). Since they have moved, their prices have gone up and their portions have gone down. Also their service in their new location is quite slow in inattentive (we waited over an hour once after ordering for our food) and multiple times have had to flag down servers after exceptionally long absences in order to get drinks, our bill, etc. They claim to offer a loyalty program, but in all the times I have been there, I have only been able to successfully add the points twice to my loyalty account - servers either say they don't know about it, or they claim to have added the bill but it never appears on their rewards account (ironically their app also says you can scan missed receipts into the app, but their receipts have to barcode or QR code to scan). I have even emailed their management to inquire, but I received no response.

BoxBar has been on our list of vegan places to try for forever and a day. We made it out that way…read morethis weekend and our experience lived up to everything we've heard about them!! The pasta was amazingly tender, cooked to perfection. There was a lot of flavor and depth in each bite, more of a deliciously earthy mac and cheese as opposed to maybe a velveety smooth creamy type. The Jalapeño poppers were amazing. I've always associated poppers with a crusted fried topping but these were bold, going in a different direction. The jalapeños were fresh and soft to the bite, easy to cut with the side of a fork, loaded with components such as cashew cheddar, crema, avocado sauce, sweet pickled jalapeños, pico and cabbage slaw - all coming together perfectly in each bite (i'm utilizing their menu description) For the main dish, Sandi ordered the "Smokey Barbecue" which came with a complimentary side of chips and I ordered the Portobello French Dip and upgraded my side to a Side Salad for an extra $4. Each dish, every bite was delicious, even something as simple as a side salad was elevated with their Ginger Tahini dresing. Dipping the Portobello Sandwich into the Dip was just .. magical. We also both opted for the same drink, South Park Mule. The drink was legit, in addition to tasting great, I actually had a buzz as well .. indicating to me they didn't skimp on the adult juice Their food is amazing across the board and there's so much more to go back and try! Definitely worth the trip!!

I'm updated my review to reflect a recent takeout dining experience…read more A couple weeks ago, we ordered 2 salads, and 2 sandwiches. We ordered pickup. Upon arrival to our house, the order was incorrect, whoopsie! We called back and the waiter who answered mentioned that we had accidentally taken a staff meal home. None of our to-go boxes were labeled. How could anyone know? This is a rookie mistake. It's been a while since this Goblin worked in food, but that's a non-negotiable. Especially given a place that prides itself on catering to restricted diets and lifestyles. This is exactly how you let a pumpkin seed slide into a seed allergy order. Instead of letting us keep the meal, she asked us to bring it back to the restaurant. We were happy to do so. Everyone deserves to eat. Should we have kept it for ourselves? We bring the food back, and the waiter explains that there was a mixup, and apologized. They handed us another to-go box (which wasn't labeled) and tried to end the conversation. "Have a good night!" We had to then explain to this waiter that our wives demanded something in return for the error, which was true. The waiter/bartender had a puzzled look on their face. Customer? Demanding I make something right? In my workplace?! A direct statement void of passivity about the quality of my service? With conditions? The audacity! We live in a world where we, the customer, bring back your incorrect order for you, waste our time, and we just get a, "thanks, have a good night!" This goblin had to claw his way up the ranks pillaging for gold which doesn't come easy. Everyone knows food cost in Seattle went up ~%46 since 2019. Wages haven't. We told the waiter our wives wanted a slice of cake. The waiter was shook by our audacity, and moved towards the fridge behind the bar to consult with two chefs who were shutting it down. We were arriving near/at close on a Monday. The other two chefs body language exuded "just give them the rest of the cake". There was a couple moments of pause and hushed conversation. The waiter pulled out a large serving plate with only a small chunk of Chocolate Mousse Cake left. Instead of putting that into a box, apologizing, and fixing the problem. They conferred about the legitimacy of our claim with the chefs. Hesitantly, they cut the cake into a small slice, put it in a box (which wasn't labeled) and handed it to us. What's hilarious is that they would leave such a small piece going into the next day of prep. Why not just 86 it right there? Why was it so hard for this person to acknowledge they made a mistake, and do something kind for us in return? The chefs clearly understood these fundamental building blocks of customer service, had they not been there in the front of house, I'm sure the waiter would've made an excuse to not remedy the situation. From all of my years in food service, if something is wrong, you make it right, end of story. By owning the error, you keep your integrity. Even a small gesture like 10% off one item, between the hours of 7:35pm- 7:45pm every third Monday, however inconsequential and trivial, makes people feel like you've made things right. These basics need to be addressed with FOH staff. With food cost nearing the price of rent each month in Seattle, customers should feel empowered to speak their mind respectfully. My only reason for going into excruciating detail is the hope that this can be a teaching moment, and more people can eradicate passivity. Passivity is a threat to community, culture, service, and so many other integral parts of our society. It's OK to disagree in public. It's OK to check someone. It's OK to tell your server "No, honestly, it wasn't that good, here's why..". When we deny the truth about our experiences for fear of disrupting the status quo, we withhold an essential part of building stronger, more diverse and resilient communities. "Goblin D, don't you think this is a bit too deep for a food review?" No, and if you've made it this far, the two stars are for the two chefs who made sure we got our cake.

These are the best cheese curds ever bc the batter isn't heavy like other cheese curds I've had. It's tempura battered so it's light and you can taste the cheese more. The jalapeño strawberry dip and ranch are good dips, but try them together and it will blow your mind. The fried green beans were okay. They did have a heavier batter on them and I wish they had the same batter the cheese curds had. The spicy dip was good! The rosemary popcorn was delicious! It had just enough butter and the perfect amount of rosemary where it's not overpowering. Once you get to the bottom, there's tons of butter and you just dip and soak it up with the popcorn. The seasonal veg was brussells sprouts which could have been roasted a bit more to crispy for me but that's a personal preference. This is way more satisfying than the food you'd get at your typical local bar. I've been to The Bridge a half dozen times and every time has delivered. Solid food. Good service. Great outdoor patio. Neighborhood vibes - the type of place where the bartenders know and recognize the locals, and the locals are regulars. I like that. It's a welcoming place, casual, laid back, and though I haven't been there during too many sports games, even when it's on, it doesn't seem to get too rowdy. Brunch is a must do, with options like the Benny flight. Definitely one of the less known brunch spots in my opinion, but even so, can still get busy so go early. Only reason I've done 4 stars is I've had a few times where service was a little slow. Would absolutely return again and again and have recommended to many friends. Keep up the great work team, may you be successful for many years to come.
