Today's brunch was totally on a whim, and we stumbled upon a hidden gem called Burrito Express located in Paso Robles. 4 stars for this review as drink prices were a tad steep. Tucked into the corner of a Starbucks location, this cute little spot is small but super inviting--and definitely lives up to the hype. As soon as we walked in, the place was clean and filled with the delicious smell of spices and fresh food. I ordered the chilaquiles (not listed on the menu, but they'll make it for you with your choice of meat or traditional eggs for the same price). I went with chili verde, and wow--I was not disappointed. It was loaded with meat, sauce, cheese, cilantro, onion, and sour cream. Absolutely worth the $13, and I'd 100% order it again--next time with al pastor! We also tried the chicken enchilada plate ($13), which was just as good. Great flavor, the perfect amount of sauce and cheese, and it came with rice and beans on the side. For drinks, they've got a wide selection, including alcoholic options. I grabbed a Jarritos--just a heads up, they're $3.50 each, a bit pricey, but ice cold and refreshing. Overall, this place was a hit for us. The waitress, Erma, was friendly, polite, and attentive--which, let's be honest, isn't always easy to find. The restaurant is clean, has plenty of seating, and judging by the steady flow of customers, it's definitely no secret anymore! Give it a try and see for yourself--I'm pretty sure you'll love it too. I was shopping in the area and craving some Mexican food. I spotted this place and decided to give it a try. When I entered the staff was friendly and greeted me. I placed a to go order for Asada and Al Pastor tacos. My order was ready pretty quick. The tacos weren't anything special. They were pretty bland and could use more seasoning. The hot sauce had good heat to it for sure. This place is alright if you are in a pinch. I might try them again next time. read more

We came here because of the great reviews and were very surprised by what we got. The beans had a sweet and vinegary taste to them but they were also cold. The rice on the other hand was quite good. The chile verde was spicier then I am used to but I still though it was passable. Everything else we tried was terrible. All the meat in all the tacos no matter what type seemed unseasoned. I don't even think they salted the meat and the tortillas were cold and doughy and bland. We rely on yelp reviews often and we were let down by the ones for Burrito Express. After having visited, it seems now like this is more of a hangout and people enjoy the ambiance a lot more than the food. For take-out, you should definitely pass on this location. read more

Conveniently located in the Food For Less plaza, Burrito Express has a broad assortment of Mexican food. I've had amazing chicken tortas in the past so I tried theirs. My only complaint was the bread they used. It was very soft and didn't have enough structure to hold the sandwich together so it was very messy to eat. Overall, not bad. I'd prefer no pinto beans in the sandwich since the beans added fluid to the soggy bread and fresh jalapeños instead of canned. I'll come back and try other menu items. read more

We had people working at our house, so we were looking for a Mexican Restaurant. This place isn't too far from our home and we decided to try it. We both had an excellent meal. My husband had two carne asada soft tacos and I had the taco salad. Both were delicious. The taco salad was so big, we decided next time we come here, we will just buy the taco salad and split it. In the few times I've gone thru Paso Robles I have had food from this spot just once, having ordered an extremely tasty and flavorful chili verde burrito and a drink. I told myself I would come back and try it again before reviewing since I have read other reviews here, but all in all my 1st time here was good, great even. Food was great, a 5/5 both times, granted both times I ordered a burrito -- my 2nd time I asked the male order taker what he recommended, and he chose the al pastor burrito with everything it normally came with, with both red & green sauce. I have to say, the service appears to be quite true to some extent by the reviews as both times I had servers who didn't exactly make ordering easy or efficient due to a slight language barrier; they didn't speak English well, no matter, the order was done regardless... but I did watch a much older caucasian couple struggle to order and politely left. Despite that, the restaurant appeared to serve and have a diverse customer dining here. The staff also immediately took to cleaning the tables after the customers left the building. Points for that. Overall I was very satisfied with both times here. Will be coming back and even recommending to folks to give it a shot. read more

Definitely one of my favorite taco Tuesday places. The tacos were great and had plenty of meat on them. $2 taco definitely worth it. We had the birria, pastor, and asada tacos and they tasted great. The people at the counter where you order were very friendly. You take a seat and they bring your order to you. Great little hole in the wall, on the east side of Paso. We come here for breakfast burritos after early soccer games. Service is quick, and the burritos are pretty big. We usually get eggs and bacon, but recently I've been loving the machaca burritos. They come with your choice of red or green sauce, but I get an extra portion of red sauce on the side, and it makes me sweat. The ambiance isn't fabulous, a few tables and chairs scattered around, but you can have a beer with your carne asada burrito at lunch, and you won't go broke. read more

For a place called burrito express they did the burrito name dirty. Potatoes in a burrito is not the same as fries, which is what we got. The hot sauce is face melting hot too so unless you want to scorch your booty hole you should skip it. Lack luster is probably an understatement but it was not something I would recommend. read more

I had been craving a carne asada burrito forever. I made sure to check the reviews and these were mostly positive with a few not so great reviews. Should have trusted those bad reviews. I am not even sure what kind of meat I was given since it was chopped so tiny and so little was in the Burrito. Burrito wasn't flavorful at all either. Seems like maybe this place is for construction workers as they had a bunch of them waiting for orders. $17 for a regular burrito and a drink is a lot for a very sad not flavored burrito. The food tastes good and is at a pretty nice price. Just be aware that there is a menu but you have to ask how much everything costs if you walk into the establishment, I saw the prices online, but they are not posted inside the restaurant. I had pastor tacos, chicken burrito and a torta. The tacos were 2.69, burrito was 10.99 and the torta 11.99. Great price for the flavor and portions. The staff were friendly and service was quick. I should have checked the amount of salsa before I left. I asked for verde and was given one small container for the entire order. Before I left the lady told me she put in extra. The extra was one more small container of red salsa. I had enough salsa for the burrito. read more

Went here on a whim on a late Wednesday night and was happy they truly were open past 8PM. Ordered a simple chicken burrito and a drink to-go. My order was ready in less than 5 minutes and I was super shocked. The staff were nice and welcoming, the atmosphere of the restaurant seems like a random late night hangout, I noticed the people there didn't have food on the table and thought maybe they were waiting for food or just chillin at the restaurant. The burrito itself was not the best, the salsa and chicken were good but the beans and rice were very lackluster and bland. The burrito barely had any cheese which was disappointing. Great little fast food restaurant with delicious food, and great service. I had a fish taco and a chicken taco while my friend had the queso Birria and a shrimp taco. Everything was good with lots flavor. The tacos were street style, with onions, lots of cilantro (which I love), and a delicious sauce on top. The birria was a nice savory addition I used to dip my chicken taco in. I don't eat beef, but I couldn't resist the consommé. I ordered the CA burrito and it was pretty small and was missing sour cream, but honestly I wasn't mad because I went back and ordered 2 pastor tacos because I saw some come out and they looked good and I was still hungry. I ordered 1 taco al pastor, I'm pretty sure it was around $2.69 and came with salsa verde and various toppings. I talked to the owner, Porfirio, and he just opened a few weeks ago, and a sister restaurant has been in Atascadero for a couple of years. Prices are low for the central coast, with most of the main entrees being $10.99. There are daily specials and $1.69 tacos on Taco Tuesday. The service was quick and the place was very clean. I hate to post this review because im a local and im not about bringing small businesses down that are trying to succeed which is why ill keep it at 2 stars. i just feel like this needs to be addressed. I went in with my family. We ordered two plain bean and cheese burritos and two burgers. The total came out to $50! I was charged $12 for a plain bean and cheese burrito. When we got the burgers, both were completely raw and cold, I requested two more which came back still slightly pink in the middle one being un-edible, my two-year-old was only able to eat pieces of our bean and cheese burrito and fries so we had to get food again for her. It's the next day now and I'm feeling sick and nauseous. I'm not trying to attack anyone. I'm just trying to explain the truth and notify people to just be careful. I provided pictures of the raw burger we received. In all honesty, this deserves a one star, but I'm not about bringing this business down. I just hope they see this post and use it as a lesson to make themselves better, because they are serving locals and are part of a community, and they need to be reminded of that . read more

Ordered via Yelp from Burrito Express, AND COULDNT BE HAPPIER!! Got the Al Pastor Burrito Combo and Asada Quesadilla. Both were just what the Dr ordered!!!
