We had an amazing meal last night on the way to Cal Poly Arts featuring Kishi Bishi at Sensorio! We stopped at Tacos Doña Mari in Paso Robles. Everything was cooked from scratch even the tortillas! We started with guacamole and chips and you could tell she had just made it right then! Perfectly flavored. Then we moved onto breaded fish taco, shrimp taco, which were all perfectly cooked and seasoned and the tortillas were outstanding. I had the Governator, which was crisp corn tortilla, smothered in melted cheese, and then sautéed shrimp, cabbage, pico de gallo, and a green sauce. I don't think I've ever inhaled anything so fast. I had an Al Pastor Sopes, a thick, round corn dough (masa) topped with cabbage, sour cream, cotija cheese, red salsa and green salsa. The beans complimented the pork and charred pineapple perfectly. Just ordered Birria tacos and A burrito with an agua fresca paid 45$ just for me to get TWO salsa's when I ask for a third they want to charge me. Second they left a SHARP SMALL BONE in my birria taco. My husband almost died literally. Was choking for 5 min straight. Third their consomé tasted like water/ menudo juice. Idek man I had high hopes. Just for it to be ASS . Agua fresca was good . Regardless if the meat is being cooked with bone. QUALITY CONTROL IS A REAL THING all restaurants are supposed to abide by. The red sauce had that rich, homemade taste with the perfect level of spice. Topped with fresh crema, queso cotija, and 2 perfectly cooked eggs. This dish hit every note. Great service. Authentic Mexican food. We have been here previously and had the Caldo de Rez. Excellent. Also have had the Caldo de Pollo. I was not feeling well a couple months ago so my hubby brought me the Caldo de Pollo. So fresh and flavorful. They have mama in the back making homemade corn tortillas and they come hot to the table. Great chips and salsa. Some spicy and some not. They also have green salsa which I loved. However yesterday we went there. I had the chili verde. My husband had Mole. My chili verde was a little disappointing bc it lacked flavor. Needed salt, pepper, a little more spiciness, cilantro, and the meat came in three big chunks that needed to be cooked a little longer. Was not tender at all. I could only eat a few bites. It seemed like they poured the green tomatillo sauce over the meat and didn't simmer the meat in the sauce like I do. It lacked a lot of flavor. First time here. First of all very happy it's new owners! They were friendly and nice. I can't say the food was bad. The tacos had enough filling. The asada had no flavor. We didn'care for the salsa served with it. To spicy. Regular salsa would be nice. The AL Pastor was good but not outstanding. The shrimp taco had no flavor at all. Visiting Paso and found this spot. Food was good, I ordered chorizo, came with beans and papas. My husband ordered chilequiles verde, came with chile verde. He liked it, but wished they had sauce on top. And the chilequiles were made of chips.. we also ordered a small bowl of menudo con Pata, it was just ok. Menudo didn't come with hominy and it lacked flavor. The best part was the homemade corn tortillas and fresh orange juice. Service was great, and everyone was friendly. read more

This place is a sleeper! Stopped here on the way to SB. My daughter and I kept things simple and just got tacos. Hand made tortillas were some the best I've ever had. I got breakfast burritos from here because the photo online looked amazing - what we received was so far from that photo. It was all tortilla and potato (not even hash brown, like mashed potato), the tiniest amount of egg, and the bacon was raw!!! One gentle reviewer mentioned the "hot" salsa was like hellfire hot. It isn't. It is definitely spicy with the kind of heat that sneaks up on you after your first bite. You think, "hmm... ok feel the burn...maybe too much?" But it is also very flavorful. I've had salsa's that were hot just to be hot; but had no real flavor. This is DELICIOUS and very addictive. It's one of those Hurts so Good salsa's, where you keep going back and you have no control over your compulsion. I'm sorry the other reviewer felt it ruined her shrimp tacos; with the flavor of this salsa I can only imagine it would have been a perfect match for shrimp or fish tacos. If you know you are a lightweight when it comes to salsa, then you should mention it so they can get you the right salsa. But for those of us who are competitive salsa tasters, we love trying the various levels; and their green salsa is very very delicious - but lightweights beware. read more

Food was good! my girlfriend got the nachos, and I had a chicken torta. Both were great! The beans reminded me of home. Prices were good, not too expensive. the food is definitely underrated! I am from out of town and let me tell you, I have been going over and over to this place. Food brings back memories of how my mom use to cook. so they were not friendly. I was the only one in there on a Tuesday evening and I ordered two shrimp tacos. They were $4.50 each and when I got them back to my hotel room, they were so spicy I almost couldn't eat them. I definitely could not eat the second one. It took them 25 minutes to prepare them. The shrimp in the tacos was so overpowered by the hot sauce that I wondered if they did it on purpose for some reason I've had many many many shrimp tacos in my life and this was so over the top spicy it was ridiculous to say the least.
