Foods alright the waters/waitresses are usually on there phones and they might forget your chips and salsa.

Wow... I worked here as a bus boy for two months my freshman year of high school. Can safely say this was one of the WORST experiences of my life. Here are some examples why: 1. One day I showed up a half hour early and offered to help out. The manager had nothing for me to do in the empty restaurant so he told me to go chill out. I went over to play pool, got yelled at, and the manager gave me 25 minutes of unpaid labor. 2. The wait staff was nice to my face but some of them didn't bother to tip me (like they are supposed to at the end of the night... basically the only money I could make) after not only bussing their tables all night, but even serving food for their tables, which is super unsanitary for a bus boy to be doing. (One night they even had me pour and serve beer as a 15 year old). I was definitely one of the hardest workers in the restaurant if not the hardest worker there, and I was completely overlooked and they acted like the small tips they did give me for covering for them all night were barely deserved. They wouldn't even give me a free taco or whatever at the end of the night, and my first night, they acted like they were doing me a favor when they slid me a little bit of their disgusting food. 3. Overall super unsanitary. After being in that kitchen I would never eat there. I tried being as safe as possible with everything but nobody else was and the manager did not seem to care at all. Also the food isn't even good. 4. I couldn't even be social at the job. The night I quit, I told one of my coworkers that I was close with and still am to this day (neither of us work here anymore), that it was my last night, and I was yelled at by the manager "Papa" (yeah we had to call this guy "Papa") for allegedly standing around for 10 minutes which is simply just not true. These are my main 4 reasons for leaving. Although there were a few coworkers I enjoyed, most of them I did not. I run my own landscaping business now that I'm 17, and I use this as an example of how not to treat your employees and coworkers. Thanks for listening to my rant about this terrible place, I just feel anyone considering going here deserves a behind the scenes perspective. Also, I promise you the food isn't even good. read more

I originally posted a review four months ago giving a 1-star rating because they did not have any vegetarian options on their menu. But I promised to re-review if things changed. Somone emailed me recently and said they had updated their menu. So we gave it a try early (5:30pm) on a Sat night. The place was already crowded (about 50% full) and we were led through the large comfy diningroom, past a bar and into a backroom with 6 tables reserved for families with screaming kids. There were two of us. No kids. Looking for a nice quiet dinner, and this is where they seat us? Plus there was a loud TV at one end of the room and a blaring speaker playing music right above our heads. Strike one. The service was sub-par. Asking for drinks before we even cracked the menu. Had to ask for water. Ordered a side of guacamole which never came. Had to ask for chips (decent) and salsa (mediocre)....oh and they charge $2 for chips and salsa. Strike two. My grilled veggies were actually tasty, but the fajita wraps -- though apparently handmade -- were a little too bready for my taste, the black beans heavy and inedible, and the Mexican rice uninspired. The veggie enchiladas left my companion unimpressed. Strike three. It's nice to see a Mexican restaurant in Walpole Center. We had high hopes as we love Mexican and no doubt would have been regulars. But for the time being we'll stick to the best Mexican around -- made fresh at home. Still, sincere kudos to the owners for venturing beyond the original menu and adding half-dozen vegetarian options...and its on that sole basis that I am upgrading my rating to 2-stars. My original review: 1-Star follows: Got excited when I read the reviews because I live not far from Walpole center and love Mexican. However, after finding the menu online, I discovered not a single vegetarian option. Boo! Really, how hard is it to offer vegitarian Fajitas or a few other dishes?? Until they modify their menu with some veggie-friendly options, I will be eating at Acapulco's in Norwood when I need my Mexican fix. But I will check back in the months to come to see if anything has changed and promise to update my Yelp review if it does. read more

I have been coming to Jalapenos since it first opened in a small space on the corner of Main St. and 27. When it first moved down to the bigger location in the center of town, I didn't know if it would keep the same great, local feel, but I have not been disappointed! The expanded menu and staff are all great, and the margaritas are the best you can find inside or outside of Boston; however, I stick to the sangria, which is truly the best I have ever had. I recommend chicken enchillidas which come with beans and rice, but have also had burritos, fajitas, and nearly every appetizer- all have been good. While you are there, introduce yourself to Ricardo- local resident and owner, and he will help you pick the perfect meal for your tastes. The first few weeks open I think they were busier than expected, but all the kinks are worked out now so if you are in the area and looking for a good, fun place to come with friends I highly recommend it. read more

The service sucked. Walked in sat at the bar. Waited 10 mins the bartender walked by 5 times and did not say hi. Helped the person to the right of us the person to the left of us that had all ready be served. She sucked and should be fired. We walked out and never will come back again. Stopped here on a whim at about 1:30 on a Saturday afternoon... not really our area... didn't see the prior Yelp reviews.. First thing you notice is the nice decor.. Menu is a traditional Mexican bordering on upscale.. Fresh chips and excellent homemade salsa to start. I ordered the Jalapenos Burrito, while my wife got the Mole Verde Enchiladas, my older son got the Tacquitos app as a meal, while my little one got a basic cheese quesadilla. Burrito was big and packed. I tasted the wife's dish and it was fantastic.. Yes, the prices are a bit on the high side for Mexican, but I thought the food was fantastic. Maybe we got lucky at a time when the kitchen wasn't stressed, but I thought the place was pretty good overall. And as a thoughtful touch, since my little one's meal came with dessert, the owner brought out one for my older son too.. nice gesture. read more

Had lunch at Jalapeno's for the first time. Huge restaurant, but it seems to cater more towards dinner than a lunchtime crowd. There were about six other people in the restaurant when I was there at 1pm. Great, friendly staff. Salsa and chips were fresh. Got my order in less than 5 minutes. read more

We were in the area and Mexican sounded good for dinner. But we were sorely disappointed with our visit here. We tried the queso fundido to start with. What a letdown. A bowl of greasy cheddar cheese with some peppers and chorizo chunks in it. Not very good. Their salsa that they give you with chips was very good though. Freshly made and nice and spicy. I like to go with 2 things when i try a new mexican place. Tacos and Chili Rellenos. We tried the shrimp tacos. They were huge fried shrimp. Too bad they were too big, cause then end up being too tough. The carnita tacos were good in principal and how i wanted them. Roasted pork on corn tortillas with onions and cilantro. Too bad the pork was way under-seasoned and a bit dry. And the rice they serve with meals is super bland. The Rellenos were huge but ended up being a sloppy mess and not all that great. A few other disappointments to point out. One was the service. Not very good, more interested in some friends that were there than us. And the kids menu. There are 2 items on the kids menu. A hamburger and a quesadilla. Really? That's all you offer? One of my biggest gripes lately is places with horrible options for kids. And I have to say that the prices are a bit out of hand and way more expensive for the quality and quantity that we got. read more

Nice decor, excellent waitress, now for the food. I had the calamari appetizer, and a combo plate. This was a lot of food. I would suggest the calamari would be great for two to three regular appetites. They have a tomato based marinade they drizzle over it, and it was excellent. If you like your calamari without the drizzle, just let the server know. The combo, rice, beans, stuffed poblano, chicken enchilada. Very good, and the sauces were excellent. We eat here when the weather is nice so we can enjoy the food, the big margarita's and keep our son distracted by the cars and trucks driving by. The food is always great. The service is better than most places. I've tried about 6 dishes here and I've enjoyed all of them. The portions are big enough that I can fill up on half of my meal and bring the rest home for lunch the next day. Gotta love the complimentary warm chips and slightly spicy salsa that you get while figuring out what order. They are quite good. We rarely leave any of that uneaten. The prices are perhaps a couple of dollars more than they should be for a few of the plates, but that's just nitpicking. read more

Very poor service. Have been coming here for a few years, but the service has steadily declined. Tonight we arrived earlyish (6:00 PM). The restaurant was relatively empty. We had to wait 10 minutes to be seated. The waitress brought us drinks and water after we waited another 10 minutes. My drink came without the salt I had ordered. It was replaced in the same glass with salt hastily applied. The food came in record time, but it was cold and sloppily prepared. Despite this, I had ordered a second drink. It never came. Luckily we weren't charged, but I would have enjoyed another one. Overall I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Awesome little Maw & Paw place. The food is great. Everything I've ordered was good. The chips are homemade & the salsa is homemade. They have a full bar. The service is super nice & fast service. Portions are great, food is flavorful but the margaritas are pretty bad. Way too strong on the sour mix and no tequila. The waiter missed the fact we ordered guacamole as the very first thing as appetizer. And the timing on getting the drink orders was about 15-20 minutes AFTER we sat down. This was our second time coming here for dinner. The first time my husband and I came for dinner and it was good, so we decided to come again. However this time we had the kids. The kids menu does not have tacos, which seems crazy! Cheeseburger,chicken fingers, or quesadillas. But no tacos? After all we are at a Mexican restaurant are we not? I had to order my oldest one tacos off of the adult menu which was annoying bc it obviously didn't include the churro dessert his siblings got. So I had to order a dessert for him. The food is good, seems fresh and is over all tasty. They have a large menu with some nice choices. The fajitas are very good and I would consider going again, but encourage them to expand there kids menu. There's no reason why they can't add tacos to a children's menu. read more

We arrived at 6:30 on a very busy Friday night. It took the waitress 10 mins to greet us, 10 more to take drink orders and 10 more to bring them and 10 more to bring us menus. This is how the whole night went. Beers that we ordered never arrived, the margaritas were weak and the food that was described on the menu was not what was brought out. We didn't leave till 8:45. As a California native, I love Jalapenos. They are the closest I can find to the Southern California Mexican restaurant style. The chips are fresh, and made fresh, not dumped from a bag. I'm a fan of chicken and the chicken tacos are fantastic! Our waitress was charming and quickly looked in to a few questions my in-laws had about the food. Fantastic service, atmosphere, and food! Nice place in Walpole for some Mexican food. Love getting the fajitas. A little pricey, yet still manageable. Food came out hot, and tasty. What else can you really ask for. When I was drinking I had a Mojito, that just knocked me on my ass. That was the first and last time I had one of them. But it was sooooo good. The salsa was delicious. Literally everything else sucked. I requested extra sour cream, the waitress came back with about a table spoon or two. I had to request it twice. The supposedly hot meal came to my table luke warm or cool. If you order the Flautas on the special menu you might need a hack saw to cut them. I had a hard time with a knife. This is by FAR... my new FAVORITE Mexican Restaurant! I have absolutely nothing bad to say about my experience or the food. We set up a reservation on Open Table, and were seated promptly upon arrival. The atmosphere was festive and lively! Our waiter immediately brought over FRESH salsa and WARM tortilla chips... This salsa was SO good... Just enough kick of a spice for those who like spicy food, and for those who aren't quite at that spicy level... easy for everyone to enjoy. Our drinks were brought over very shortly after that, and before we knew it... our main courses were delivered... pipping hot, right off the grill. When I say shortly, I mean less than 10-15 minutes of being in the restaurant from entering the door. And it's not because it was dead or anything, it was actually pretty steady. I'll admit we were a little skeptical on the quickness on if the flavor would suffer... QUITE the opposite. We each took a bite of our food and looked at each other and knew we'd be back... REGULARALY. I got the chicken tacos, and my boyfriend got the steak and chorizo fajitas [not to mention we each got a side of rice and beans with our meals] We were both impressed that my tacos came with double corn tortillas, and his fajitas came with 4+ tortillas compared to other restaurants where they only give you one or two. The menu had such a great selection, that we were sad we were so full by the end. Their margarita was also pretty amazing. If you're looking for a good variety and fantastic mexican food and a good service/atmosphere, definitely check this place out... and look for us, cause we'll probably be there!!! read more

This place is okay. The food was okay. Be careful if you have a shellfish allergy as there are alot of shrimp options on the menu and they fry the chips in the same oil - which cross contaminates the chips and could cause potential anaphylaxis. They have plenty of options that are tex/mex. Not sure how "true" Mexican the food is though. But, if you are looking for that this is a good option. Food comes out pretty fast which indicates to me a lot of it is premade and or pre-plated and heated up. They have a good selection of beers and drinks. The margaritas are large but there is a lot of sour mix in it. I was hoping it would be stronger. Maybe I need to make friends with the bartender to make that happen. read more

In the interest of full disclosure, I have eaten Mexican food in Mexico and the Southwest over many years. I am always searching for authentic (and delicious) Mexican food here in the Boston area. However, this is not it. The salsa and guacamole (not hard to make) was "old" and not fresh, and probably was not made the day I ate it. So picture limp tomatoes and brown avocado and you have their guacamole. The waitress was busy and did not get our order right, although she corrected her error. But the most important part, the main courses were tired, dried out and tasteless. I had the enchiladas suizas with salsa verde. There was no salsa to be found. The tortillas were dried out in the oven perhaps due to this oversight. The beans were pretty tasteless also. Try Sol Azteca people! read more

This place is the WORST!!! The owner screams at his staff and is rude to the customers. I haven't even gotten to the most disgustingly over cooked meal. My husband and I went for dinner a few weeks ago, the salmon dinner I had was so over cooked I had the waitress take it back and the owner told me that I didn't know what good food looked like. I agree with Heather - and should have read her review before I ate here. Stale, ranicd chips started off our meal - my sangria tasted like it had been fermenting for months. The dining room was busy and either someone had called in sick or they prefer to make more money with more tables. Either way - nice waitress was VERY busy. Chicken mole was okay, salty but edible. Chiles rellenos with beef - had gone bad and my poor elderly friend did not want to make a scene. So so gross and not okay to serve. The "manager" explained that everything was made fresh (?). Went there for the first time on a recommendation of friends. I thought I was going to have an amazing meal based on what they told me. Let me tell you it was average if that. To start off, it was as though my waiter was scared of people so he was a bit awkward. Then next, we went onto the stale chips that they must have thought could be covered up by frying them with the water salsa with chunky veggies. I went on to order the steak quesadilla, it was average, but not very flavorful. For dessert i got the fried ice cream, which was barely covered with corn flakes, however, the caramel sauce on it was good. I would eat there again if I had to, but dont plan on going back there on my own for sure. Needless to say, I was a bit disappointed in what I thought was going to be an outstanding meal. read more

Granted, I am a bit of a food snob - but the only thing worse than the food was the bad service. My friends and I went on a Tuesday night and it wasnt crowded. Our waitress was extremely scarce-apparently more interested in socializing with the kitchen staff than checking on her ONE table. And let me tell you, the food was VILE. The guacamole was not fresh - the pork in the pork quesadilla was probably from a frozen bag of pork balls, the mole sauce was a weird texture and did I mention the hideous service? I've only been here once, but Im itching for a reason to go back, I ordered the vegetable burrito and my companion had the pork tacos, I'm told the margaritas are strong, and the beer is icy cold. The food tasted fresh. This place is a decent dinner spot. It's cute and in a convenient location. I went last night with a friend for dinner and was seated promptly. They brought out waters and chips and salsa right away. I had read from other reviews that the drinks were a bit weak / heavy on the sour mix so I decided to skip the usual margarita. We ordered guac to start, and then steak fajitas and chicken enchiladas to share. It was nothing extraordinary- the food tasted good but wasn't stand-out-ish. Kind of reminded me of Chili's. The one difference I noticed were the tortillas served with the fajitas. They tasted much fresher than those at your average chain restaurant. Service was a bit average. If it were between here and Chili's, I'd pick here, but honestly, I'd probably just go try somewhere new. read more

i live in walpole and have never really been "wowed" by any of the nearby restaurant offerings. i won't bash jalepenos at all, but i can't rave about it either. jalepeno's is a great place to go with friends to share a pitcher of margarita and some nachos, and that's sort of where it ends for me. if you don't go with expectations beyond that you will not be disappointed. if you are looking for the best mexican food there is out there - jalapeno's will fall short. the food is good, but not amazing, and for the prices they charge, i woudl expect an amazing mexican dinner. read more
