I am so thankful for the staff at Jalapeños in Fairhaven! They pulled together tables in their group room on late notice for a party of 25 for me! Erika and Isabella in particular went above and beyond to make sure everyone in the group was comfortable and well attended to during our dinner. The food was excellent, drinks delicious and the service top notch. Although the restaurant was packed on a Sunday night, we were very well taken care of! If you need a place for a large group, go here! The room has a cozy fireplace and heaters so it was perfect. Thanks again for taking our group at a moments notice! Amazing!! Great service, fun atmosphere, and good food! I'd highly recommend their black bean enchiladas. They were so delicious. They were so good that I ate them way too fast! I went there July 28/2015 for a dinner and a margarita with my Sister-in-Law. We are from Seattle. It was our last meal after a vacation. We were going to order 1 Big Mama and one flavored margarita at the bar while we waited for a table. The bartender was super nice. Really genuine. Thank God he told us before we ordered that the margaritas were going to be $15 each!!!! I ordered a regular small one, my Sister-in-Law said she would to, but hers was to be flavored. He pointed out it that ALL FLAVORED Marg's are $15. We did not want a "Big Mama" just regular size. Still $15 for flavored.... This was not even premium tequila. Just regular bar brand 2.5 oz. margarita. Margs were out for her since she doesn't like lime. The bartender was so honest.... Super service there. The rest was downhill. I ordered the mini taquitos since there were 8... Beef or chicken. I chose beef. Now when the plate came, there were 8 taquitos as wide as a pencil and how could you even fit filling in???!!!!! They were as big and wide as my pinkie finger and I have the 2nd smallest hands of any human being I've ever met in my life! Who cares if they ask for chicken or beef?!!! Cuz, there isn't gonna be any!!!! A total rip off. Embarrassing that they even serve it! At any price! I sent it back. The waitress never even responded to our gracious thank you's or polite manners. She never responded or spoke to us. Was simply rude. Scowly. Once time we thanked sincerely and she barked out: yea. I mean it was the attitude of: yea. Whatever. Horrible prices. Shrimp cocktail $22!!!! It was awful. The bartender was amazing. Simply amazing. If he worked somewhere else, he would be worth following. His drinks a awesome. His service spectacular. I don't know what is up with a couple of these reviews! The food is great although I didn't really like the enchiladas. I lived and travelled throughout Mexico, and find this to be the best Mexican food in Bellingham. Various regions have different styles of food so perhaps the person who called this Americanized has only had foods from one region of Mexico. ? The service is pretty good, not the best, but satisfactory. The meats are savory and portions are generous (leftovers!). The cuts of meat aren't sirloins or tenderloins, they're more average. That being said, the carnitas are great. The green chile pork is delish. I also tried the chimichanga and requested it "wet" and it was so YUMMY (and probably a zillion calories). For a treat, I highly recommend it and it can be shared. Regarding mole, families have different recipes and, again, the flavor varies from region to region of Mexico. So, to me, it depends what you like. The beer selection is great, the margaritas are tasty. The water ain't bad. Ha ha. Finally, the patio is nice, especially while it's shining on the east facing deck. There's a lower patio with a fire place, that has a nice feel to it. Also, the decor is warm and welcoming. Normally I'm all for jalepenos. I've been to this one many times before and had zero problems. Yesterday night the service was absolute garbage. The waitress who to my surprise is the manager spent her time talking to this one table for 15 minutes, instead of putting our order in and getting our drinks. You could also sense she had an attitude when we asked for the drinks and water refills. The bartender did a fantastic job to make up for hers. When it came time for checks, rather than asking, us 4, about separate checks she put it all on one. When working in a customer service job don't act like you don't give a f***. I'm not normally the one to complain but this service blew my mind. read more

This restaurant is owned by the same folks who run Jalapeño's. I think it is supposed to be a more upscale version. I read a review from someone in Indiana who referred to this place as a joint, and fake Fairhaven Mexican. That writer is a liar! I had pork carnitas (okay, it's meat, it's evil, sorry, vegetarians), and they were out of this world! I do have a complaint. This restaurant is incredibly loud. I don't know where one can sit to escape the noise, because the architecture, which is really very beautiful, features a cavernous, two-story space that amplifies conversations. read more

There are lots of Mexican restaurants around Bellingham and since Mexican is a favorite of ours we decided to try Jalapeños in Fairhaven. The first thing we noticed was that the drinks were very expensive. I had a mid-range margarita which was good, but probably not worth the price. Our food was tasty, but nothing special. The price for food seemed in line with other local restaurants. Unfortunately our server seemed to be pretty scatter-brained and inattentive. When we had just gotten out menus and before we had ordered she came by and asked us if we wanted dessert? Our gape-mouthed looks must have clued her in and she recovered and took out orders. After a long wait for food she stopped by and said, "I guess I should go see if your food is ready, huh?" It wasn't a great surprise to us that our food was a bit cool when she brought it a few moments later. Not a bad place, but there are better choices available. read more

The 2 stars are only for the location and decor. The place could only still be in business because of that. There are excellent mexican restaurants in Bham. This is not one of them. Everything tastes the same - bland. How can refried beans be tasteless? The drinks are very weak, I wasn't even sure they put tequila in my margarita. If you want atmosphere, go here. Had Milagro's for the first time last night - loved the margarita, wasn't a big fan of the food. It wasn't very busy when I arrived and we were seated and served very quickly. I will admit that I was a bit annoyed after ordering the veggie fajitas and requesting more corn tortillas (I only received two small ones) and got charged for them on the bill. I learned my lesson on that one. The margarita was delicious though! The atmosphere was fun - located right in the heart of downtown Fairhaven. I sat inside, but the loud crowd was definitely on the outdoor balcony. One 'chica' margarita and a veggie fajitas cost $24... not too bad for what it was (I had leftovers). read more

Love, love, love this restaurant. The manager, Maribel, is so bubbly and energetic and always so accommodating. The drinks were fantastic - the perfect amount of tequila in my margarita, the best one I've had in awhile! The bartender was lovely and attentive, as well as the hostess and other servers. I went here last night with a friend while we were visiting Bellingham. When we arrived the hostess tried to convincing us to go upstairs in the bar but we asked for a table in the dining area as the bar looked very loud. She then walked away and took a phone call. A busser told us to sit down at a dirty table and said someone would be around to clean it. The table was wiped down eventually but we never got menus. A good 10min later someone came around and asked for our order. We explained we didn't have menus. She grabbed two and returned to ask "you just want waters right?" Ummm no? Can we have drinks? I got a vegetarian taco salad and my friend got a burrito. The food arrived quickly but was pretty bland. No one we asked us how the food was or if we wanted refills. Let me begin by saying that I love the food here. It has always been good and I've never eaten a bad meal in the 4+ years I've been eating here. The last three time I've been here however, the service has been unacceptably slow and inattentive. From sitting to getting the bill has taken anywhere from an hour and a half to two hours. I usually don't mind if things run a little slow but the wait staff just does not act with any sense of urgency. Wait staff would just disappear for incredibly long stretches of time and would later be seen sauntering around and chatting with guests. Tonight, our waitress checked on us 3 times: to take our order, to bring us our drinks that we had ordered 15 minutes prior, and to drop off the bill over the course of 2 hours. There was also a group of four next to us that were there long before we came in who had only gotten their food after we had finished eating ours an hour and a half later. It breaks my heart because the food is so good but I will not be coming back again. read more

Im from texas, so i like going to mexican restaurants. The few times that i have been here to visit ive always been taken to jalapenos. The food here is really good, and dont get me started on the drinks, every time i have left i have been full and satisfied!!!! This place is very friendly and cool place to bring the family or just to hang out with friends for happyhour. I recommend getting a BIG MAMA MARGARITA or if you think your man enough, geta BIG DADDY MARGARITA. My husband and I joined a large group for dinner at the Barkley Village Jalapenos. The waitress was nice, but we hardly saw her while many of us were trying to get drinks. My husband ordered enchiladas which were served cold and not as ordered, long after everyone was served. She offered to replace his dinner but opted to not wait since everyone else had nearly finished. I ordered what was described as fresh crab enchiladas. They were served with a couple of tablespoons of canned or frozen crab that was extremely salty and inedible. Ultimately we were not charged for our dinner but we were very disappointed in the food as well as the service. read more

I have been here twice now and the food that we ordered was great. The enchiladas(especially the chicken verde) were fabulous. The puerco, carne asada and chili relleno were well executed. The only complaint was the chili relleno could have been a bit hotter in temperature. The rice, beans, chips, handmade tortillas, salsa and margaritas are to die for. I guess I'd call myself a regular customer here, it's close by and my kids like it. There are a some menu items that are quite good and some that are rather bland for my tastes. One day the Big Mama margaritas are so strong that two would blind you. Other days, I'm not sure there's any alcohol in them at all. I'm ok with all that. The staff are all very nice and hard working. However, the service over this past year has been atrocious, not because the wait staff is bad, but because there aren't enough of them. The other day I watched the hostess greet and seat people, bus tables AND serve food. It doesn't seem to matter if it's crowded or not, there always seems to about a third less waitstaff than there should be. I don't go there much anymore because there's a good chance it's going to be one of those times when it takes an hour or more to finally get food on the table. Come on owners, I know you've been expanding your restaurant empire here in Bellingham, that's great and I'm excited for you, but don't forget about the restaurants you already have. read more
