The decor is really pretty. There is a full bar. The classic margarita was made perfectly not too sweet or sour. We ordered the family chicken (which is not on the menu) but is so delicious. It comes with so much. The rice and beans were amazing and the chicken was so flavorful. The fries which came with hot dog slices was ok I would have liked the fries to be crispier. The salad was plentiful but the dressing had no flavor. All in all it was an amazing excellent meal. A definite place to come back for a full belly meal. read more

They charge me twice for my takeout first time I pay with Apple Pay it ding and it went through but the receipt didn't come out the lady there has no idea how to use their pos system and told me it didn't go through I even show her my account with the charge amount she didn't care and told me to charge again i had no choice but to do it again and now I got 2 charge from them(not pending charge) need to contact my bank and dispute one of the charge but the lady there needs to learn to use your pos system they just lost a customer won't be coming back here feel like I got scam others should be careful when paying with card read more

Wanted to try out the local Peruvian spot and the food was great. Ordered a jalita, some ceviche, maduros, white rice, and wifey got a margarita. Everything tasted great. But I will say the place is pricier than expected. The jalita was a really small portion and that was $15. The ceviche was like $30. Bowl of rice was $8. Aside from price, the food was really tasty. Good food, incredibly overpriced. Nail in the coffin was the fact that they somehow ran out of roast chicken. I have never eaten at a Peruvian restaurant where they'd run out of roast chicken (the most popular item) in the middle of a dinner rush. Stopped in with the family for dinner craving pollo a la brasa. Huge letdown when they didn't have any left and said that we'd need to wait at least 45 minutes for them to come out with more. Dropped the ball big time there. The jalea is fresh and good as is there arroz chaufa. Service is hit and miss as our server disappeared a lot and was hard to get a hold of. Our meal took a really long time (about 2.5 hours) and food came out pretty slow. Restaurant was fairly busy so it's understandable. Prices though were a tad high, tab for 4 came out to over $300 with desserts and 2 drinks. On the fence about this place, good food but falls short pretty much everywhere else. read more

My parents recommended this Peruvian restaurant. I was in the area and decided to try it out. When I arrived; the restaurant was empty so we were seated quickly. They have a full bar and the ambiance is elegant and dimmed down. We ordered two passion fruit pisco sour drinks which were strong and sweet and delicious. We order a jalea to share which was absolutely delicious. It had fried calamari, fried fish, fried shrimp and only one fried mussel. The waiter was nice enough to bring us two more fried mussels since my boyfriend wasn't able to try it. The fried seafood came with a beautiful side of sliced red onion, cilantro, lemon and tomato mixture that paired great. For the entrees, we ordered arroz chaufa mixta and a variation of ceviches. The arroz chaufa was enough to feed two people and had steak and chicken. It was honestly one of the best arroz chaufa I have ever had; the chicken was tender and the steak had great flavor. The rice was also cooked perfectly and fluffy. The ceviches were also super refreshing; they all varied in spiciness which was satisfying. It had a great balance of spice, lemon and seafood. I would definitely recommend if you are in the Hicksville area. I will be returning to try other things on their menu and to have their drinks. read more

Extremely disappointed with this restaurant. Came here to eat a few years ago and the food was amazing! Not sure what happened!! I recently placed 2 orders of pescado a la macho, for some reason me and my friend both got sick, we got a tummy ache and felt like we had food poisoning. It was extremely expensive $75 or so for both orders. We both didn't finish our food because it was tasting and smelling weird. I called Jalea to speak to the manager/ owner and they wanted us to get a doctor's note in order for us to even get our refund... first time hearing of this request. Then we come to the restaurant with the note just for us to be told the owner/ manager isn't here and to come back around 5-7 I asked if they can give me a call when she's in and they didn't do that either. We came in and they had us wait like 10 mins before the manager/ owner even came out. Regardless she took my note and was trying to explain how their fish shipment works like I'm not sure what that has to do with my refund. But they're supposed to refund us with no problem and whatever issue they have with their fish provider that's on them. Not me. This entire experience has been unacceptable. It took over 20 mins for me to get the refund. read more

There were 2 of us, and for some reason every restaurant we tried that night was closed, shut down, had a broken air conditioner, etc. That's how we stumbled upon Jalea! This was some of the best jalea I've ever had. My daughter, granddaughter, and I stopped here last week because of Yelp ratings. We ordered Jalea Classica, and Tallarines Verde with chicken. The Jalea was great. There was a lot of seafood - mussels, calamari, shrimp, and fish. All were well cooked and deliciously seasoned. The two dishes were enough for the three of us. This might have been my worst restaurant experience yet. The building itself was elegant, but for a Saturday night, it was almost empty. Didn't take us long to see why. First, the meals was drastically expensive and no person would get full with the little food that came on our plates. The Jalea tasted horribly, and the fish fillet was musty. Then, I spotted that the ice cubes in my water had candle-wax. We called the waiter, who got defensive. He didn't apologize for any inconvenience and called a fellow waitress who did the same. I have had the soup with chicken broth and cilantro, the skirt steak with peppers and onion, a whole fried fish, roasted chicken, yellow, green rice, chaufa rice with chicken and steak. The seasonings are always yummy. I have even ordered take out for my family. Keep in mind the whole chicken is large. Tried this restaurant for the first time on a Saturday night. Called at 6:45 and they were able to accommodate a party of 3 for 7:30. They were very nice and told us they would hold the table for us until we arrived. The restaurant was very busy, but the staff was very attentive. The food was very good and full of flavor. I rarely ever give five star reviews !! Couple months back I slowly starting going out to dinner again and a friend of mine suggested this place. Since then we have been back several times & introducing it to everyone we know. LoL Every time I come we have something different and it doesn't disappoint! Service is AMAZING thx to DAVID (manager) who always welcomes us with open arms and makes us feel like family. Everything is clean every time I go including the bathrooms. All employees are polite with masks including gloves on! I feel safe eating here, music is always on point ! Dim lights with such a great ambiance in Jalea... Be ready to spend $$$ because it's not cheap & don't forget to make reservations. It helps to have one because it's not a big place and they obey the capacity limits. Almost forgot to mention drinks are so good!! After trying a few of them I stick to the margaritas, they pack a punch! I'd give this restaurant 10 stars if possible. I've been here numerous times in the past 3 months and each time the food has been better than the last. I recommend the seafood appetizer that has 5 different samples!!! The Lomo is so tender and flavorful. The chicken has been compared to a fan favorite restaurant which I won't name, but it's just as good... The sangria has been either bitter or sweet on 2 different occasions but I will not complain because again the food is just that good. I do however recommend the coconut mojito! Drinks, apps, and food were all tasty but definitely not worth what they charge. Friday night Bonnie G. and I ventured to this new Peruvian in Hicksville to see what it was all about. Located in a long strip mall we had no problem parking around 9pm. Their large lit up sign is hard to make out the name due to the L looking like a shrimp! Upon entering we noted the clean,new feel to the room with a couple of tv's and a large bar, which to date has no liquor license so no alcohol ! Our waiter, although friendly didnt have good grasp of the English language so he deferred when asked questions to the Manager Alex who on the other hand was a pleasure to deal with no language barrier. the layout of the room will allow more tables to be added when the business picks up. They have a typical Peruvian menu comprised mostly of seafood and chicken. Upon being seated they gave us a small bowl of Peruvian Corn which was like eating sunflower seeds along with a spicy dipping sauce...fun to nibble on While perusing the menu, we noted a Duck dish which we would have liked but they had none that day. We ordered the Pescado ala Macho, a combo of fish and squid and mussels et. al in a wonderful creamy sauce which was delish! And also a really outstanding Cerviche Mixto...different fish and shell fish in a wonderfully prepared acedic sauce which softened the seafood and gave it a wonderful consistancy and taste! A Winner!! I had to try the chicken, which is a Portugese mainstay. Got 1/2 chicken with two sides; Fried Yucca and Sweet Plaintains. The Chicken is cooked on rotisserie and seasoned well. The dark meat was tender and delish but the larger piece of white meat breast was dry and not to our liking. Since the chickens are prepared earlier I figure they just sat too long under heat. For dessert, Alex recommended an Apple cake of some sort which when placed on table looked like a flat cake with creme which was rolled up and then sliced. It happened to not taste of any apple but was delicious and went down quickly...no leftovers. the photos I took clearly shows they know how to cook and we will return when they get their liquor license so we can enjoy the food with beverages. read more
