I wanted to share a bit about my recent experience at Jam's, located at 6010 University Blvd, Ellicott City, MD 21043. Oddly enough, my first visit took place on my 33rd birthday, where my family chose to celebrate my special day together with brunch at this location. Before beginning, I do want to be mindful and state that I am genuinely grateful for the opportunity to try Jam's for the first time. My family has visited this restaurant before and frequents it often, so returning home to Maryland from California, I was excited to finally experience this "trendy" eatery myself. "Trendy" is truly the best way to describe Jam Eatz. Visually, the space is very pleasing and well put together. However, when it came to the food, it was average at best. Nothing we ordered stood out or felt memorable compared to standard breakfast fare. I'm aware that the drinks are one of the highlights here, but unfortunately, as it was a dry January for me, that aspect didn't contribute to enhancing the experience. The primary reason I would not return is due to the service we received during our visit. We were a party of 10, and while we were treated quite well upon arrival, things quickly declined after our orders were placed. We were served by a single waitress- who I want to be clear was great, attentive, and professional - but as time passed, it became obvious that something was off. Other parties who arrived after us received their food well before we did. When food finally started to arrive, it came out in a random and incomplete manner - eggs, bacon, potatoes- yet missing the main items such as pancakes or waffles. There were multiple mishaps, including guests in our party either not receiving their food at all or receiving entirely incorrect orders. We spoke with management, and while a 20% discount was applied, it essentially removed the tip for our waitress and did not significantly reduce the bill enough to feel considerate given how poor the overall experience was - especially for a birthday celebration. Social media had certainly hyped this place up, and while I remain grateful for the opportunity to try it, I personally would not return. Based on this visit, I would rate Jam's a 4/10. I would be happy to offer constructive feedback on ways I believe the experience could be improved if the team is open to it. We came here around noon on Saturday and it was insanely busy - over an hour and a half wait for a table. We ended up sitting at the bar/in front of the open kitchen after a little while instead of waiting for a table. It was fun and entertaining to watch the cooks make the meals in front of you, but the food did take about incredibly long time to come out. And after all that waiting, it wasn't really anything spectacular - just a good brunch. Eggs, bacon, and potatoes is pretty standard and I didnt expect anything special there, but I had high hopes for the croissant French toast and it was good but nothing I would wait an hour and a half for lol I did ask for some fresh strawberries to cut through the sweetness of the sauce and cream on the toast, and that gave it a much needed freshness and zing, so I do recommend adding that. It's like a First Watch restaurant that serves alcohol. I ordered Boca Raton egg Benedict. The yolks were set as a soft boiled egg. I called over my server. She said that's how a poached egg is supposed to be. I said no, it isn't. She asked if I wanted it changed. By that time, we had waited 20-30 minutes for our food so I just ate the eggs. Located by the formly eggspectations, jam eateries kept what was good (the food) and renovated the space a bit to add a fresh vibe. Service is fast and I liked seeing the manager come out and help his employees. My mom and I both got omelettes: the Ranchero and Kitchen Sink. The Ranchero was tasty, but definitely skimped on the chorizo. On the other hand, the kitchen sink was not seasoned enough and tasted a bit bland. I was a little shocked that the price was $19 for the omelettes (while $16 on the website). Our waitress said the menu had JUST changed for the day to account for the rising price of eggs. In my opinion, I prefer IHOP - the omelette I get there is $18, huge, and comes with pancakes. I've visited Jam Eateries many times. But during my last visit, I tried the smothered biscuits and it was absolutely divine. I normally get either the shrimp and grits or the chicken and waffles and the mimosa flight. The shrimp and grits is typically my go-to. And on occasion I have ordered against my norm opting for one of their breakfast combos with just eggs bacon and a meat or two. They have so many options, no one should not be able to find something tasty to eat! We were seated immediately and our waitress was very attentive!! I was disappointed to learn Eggspectation had disappeared. It was one of my favorite brunch places in Houston so was elated to find it so close in Ellicott City. Been wanting to try for awhile, so when an opportunity to meet friends for brunch I suggested we meet here. I wasn't disappointed. Service was fast, food was good, prices were very reasonable and only 15 minutes from the airport! I don't believe they take reservations; however, there is a wait list that you can put your name on prior to arriving at the restaurant. When we put our name on the waitlist we were seated within 30 minutes and there were over 30 parties ahead of us. I got the mimosa flight and it was basically 4 stemless champagne flutes filled with greatness. The flight was the perfect mixture of champagne juice - with just enough juice to give flavor but you can still taste the champagne. My husband got the Brandy Alexander and he said it was good. I also had a friend order the Guava Tequila Sour and she LOVED it. The drinks are also Amazingly priced (especially considering the price of brunch drinks in DC + Baltimore Regions). Now, time for the food! I'll start by saying I wasn't the biggest fan of the Fruity Pebbles Pancake....but I also 100% blame myself because I don't like fruity pebbles. I order it based on the aesthetic (it looked so good in pictures) and looks wise it did not disappoint. We waited in the bigger bar area and got hot chocolate which was delicious. I absolutely love coming to JAM. The food is fantastic, the prices are reasonable, customer service is great and the atmosphere is pretty laid back. The place is always clean whenever we come and although it's busy sometimes especially on weekends, pir food always comes out reactively quickly and hot. Came for my second visit and I wasn't a happy camper. Sadly, the place was packed so the service was slow and horrible. Our waitress was attempting to juggle several orders on our side of the room and with that came cold food. None of my food was hot, not the eggs, the bacon nor the potatoes. Everything was cold and tasted as if it was sitting for a while. And while I wasn't happy with my food, trying to find my waitress to mention anything was like a needle in a haystack. At one point, staff was standing in the walkway between the main dining and the other room and nobody was giving their tables any attention. Okay, two coworkers told me about Jam. And both of them had rave reviews. I knew I had to try it for myself. My niece and I came here yesterday and they were not lying. There's a full bar, a fireplace for those frigid months, patio seating, and the walls are adorned with paintings of music icons. It's pretty spacious too. The food here is delicious! This place is light and bright on the inside. Our party of six was told we had a 10-15 minute wait and I was very happy that it was only five minutes before we were led to our table. The server was knowledgeable about the menu and persuaded me to, in my opinion, the best dish ordered at our table: the June special pineapple upside down pancakes. What I appreciate when eating brunch at a restaurant is the food being hot when it comes to our table and JAM Eateries delivered on that. Everything was hot, the pancakes and waffles were crispy on the outside and edges with a warm center. Ok ok back to my pancakes......focus on this next thing I say......the pancakes had pineapple rings and cherries in the middle of the pancakes. I was expecting cold-ish pineapple, which would had been expected and disappointing, but instead the pineapple and cherries were hot and because of that the fruit was caramelized inside the pancake. The sugar on the outside of the fruit warmed up and it was an absolute knockout bite. You should go to JAM Eateries before that special is over. Everyone else enjoyed their food but the only thing I will say about improving, are their potatoes. They just didn't pack the same flavor punch as the other items. I have patronized this business several times before and since the name was changed from Eggspectations to JAM Eateries. Not sure the reason for the name change, a rebranding maybe? On any note, the menu hasn't changed much and the quality of the food and the service has remained consistent. JAM is a rather large venue with a edgy theme with pictures of famous artist littering the walls. The parking lot can be a nightmare, depending on the time and/or time of your visit. During every visit, I have never waited too long, five to ten minutes at most. The restaurant is a great place for a everyday brunch and can even accommodate larger parties, maybe for a baby shower, bridal shower or even a work get together. I have had many items on the menu from omelets to pancakes and all entrees were reasonably portioned for the price and very tasty. As a Dunkin junkie who is very particular about her java, the coffee here is pretty tasty, especially their specialty options. If you're looking for a good place for brunch, I highly suggest giving JAM Eateries a try. read more

I ordered a corn muffin, grilled extra hot with butter. What showed up on my plate was a corn muffin cut in half--room temperature--with butter on the side. When I asked our server to bring it back to be grilled HOT like I asked the first time, it came back no warmer or at best barely warmed. She checked in on us several times as we tried to decide what we wanted to eat. We ended up ordering the following: Maryland Crab which came with potatoes and a croissant. This was very delicious. Tons of flavor. A decent amount of crab meat for the price. The potatoes were great as well. Wonderfully seasoned with peppers. Shrimp and Grits - This was GREAT!! I should have ordered two. I loved the capers, fish & egg combo - with a side of home fries. My friend had a spinach salad with fresh berries and some really ginormous shrimp. The whole salad was big and delightfully colorful. Strawberries, blueberries, shrimp, spinach and whatever else was in there. We shared the mimosa flight... Pineapple, grapefruit, watermelon, and what tasted like a Mai Tai Mimosa. Got a nice buzz off it too. Fresh squeezed orange juice. The whole tab came to $77 - which was a deal for such really nice food. Even mediocre restaurants these days have similar price points while providing minimal satisfaction. No so here. Five ENTHUSIAST stars. Terrific service and plenty of parking.
