Not. Good. Upon walking up to the door, we saw a "we are currently cash only" sign. We opened the door and asked the hostess where the nearest ATM was. She pointed us across the street. Turns out there was one in the back of this restaurant... maybe she thought we weren't going to eat there? I ordered the Italian omelette (ricotta, basil, house made tomato jam). I love omelettes, but this was so gross. It was sweet, which came from the jam of course, but it was off putting. I ate less than half which, if you knew me, says it all. The potatoes tasted like baked potatoes, weren't crispy at all, and needed a ton of seasoning. Also, there was no honey on the table (as might be expected from the name) but there was jam. Really, it's more like 2.5 stars. I went here the first week it opened so maybe now that it's been around a couple of months it's better. For me is was just so-so.The nutella at the table is nice but it doesn't make up for mediocre food. I ordered an omelet and it came to the table ice cold. So cold that I had to send it back (and I NEVER send stuff back). They were great about remaking it quickly. But the service was so slow slow that I had to flag down the water guy to go get the waitress to tell her I needed to send my food back. Not good. The honeys and bread are a nice touch though. And it's really the only breakfast place close to me other than Nookie's Too and Toast (both of which are OK but too crowded on the weekends... and not great enough to wait for half an hour to get a table), so I'd try it again. First, the wait for brunch on Sunday will be long. Our wait was 40 minutes. The food is very good, though! You have to be careful, because some of it is more like dessert than breakfast (brownie pancakes with caramel syrup, anything that has whipped cream comes with a LOT of whipped cream). I was a little worried about the french toast with candied walnuts and orange anglaise, but I shouldn't have been. The french toast itself was crisp on the edges but creamy in the center and the anglaise was not too sweet - it had lots of fresh orange zest. My friend had the Italian benedict, which is served on a risotto cake with tomato jam. That's what I'm getting next time. My other friend had the classic eggs benedict which was just that - classic. Very good. I thought about getting the chicken and waffles, but the chicken is strips. They also have Nutella and various jams on the table. We ordered some toast so we could try them and finish our coffee. The waitress was friendly and refilled our coffee often. The further you sit into the restaurant the better, as people waiting for a table won't be crowded around you and you won't feel the cold when the door is opened. I had never been here before, but read about it in the Red Eye or some place as being great. We went in for Brunch at about 11 am on a Saturday. The place was packed - and it's pretty small. We waited about 20 minutes only! I was really surprised how quickly they were getting people in and out. The space could potentially be very easily congested too, so huge props to the waiters and bussers for zooming through without being in they way! I got the eggs Florentine, it was THEE best I've ever had. tons of spinach and just the right amount of sauce. The potatoes on the side were delish as well. My cousin got the stuffed French toast, which looked pretty decadent - and she loved it. I agree with a previous reviewer - the little jars of jam and tub of Nutella on the table was so cute. I'm learning that the average burger in Chicago is still a pretty decent one. I got a standard cheeseburger, medium rare from Jam n Honey yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. It was a full eight ounces, perfectly cooked, and served on a soft, buttery bun. The burger comes with fries or a mixed green salad for $9. The service was friendly and attentive and there was a big jar of Nutella sitting on every table. Jackpot! I didn't have any bread left over so I just helped myself to a spoonful. I purchased an amazing deal for dinner for two online from Gilt City. It was my first visit to Jam 'n Honey, I had heard great things about their brunch and was excited to try their dinner. The place a nearly empty, which surprised me. Apparently people have not caught on to the fact that they are serving dinner. The atmosphere was definitely more of a brunch atmosphere - bright colors, open space. It felt weird eating dinner there. The one thing that really bothered me was that they had the radio on, to Delilah. You know, it is that radio show where people call in with cheesy love stories and dedicate songs to people. It wasn't what I wanted to be listening to. They need to at least upgrade to Sirus Radio or something. I ordered a salad which was very fresh and good, and the squash ravioli. The ravioli was homemade, and was rich and flavorful. Definitely worth ordering again. Weird atmosphere aside, the service was great. Our server was very friendly. She even kept our BYOB beers in a fridge for us and noticed the second we needed more. After dinner we walked over to the movie theater on Webster. I have been eying Jam 'n Honey for months now. I'm too lazy to stand around waiting for a seat on the weekends - it's always so packed with DePaul folks - so we finally stopped by Friday morning for breakfast. The music was great. Coffee was delicious. Nutella on every table. (Wahoo!) Yummy strawberry and orange jams available. I had the Harvest Breakfast which is something like the All-Star meal that you get at Waffle House but way, way better. The boyfriend ordered the South of the Border Burrito and was pretty disappointed with it. It turns out that they had some problems that morning with their avocados so they just decided to serve it sans guacamole to a guy who is like those two obsessive ladies in that Subway avocado commercial. Went here for breakfast the other day and left stuffed! I had the chorizo potato skillet and it was super yummy and full of lots of fresh veggies. My husband had the french toast, which he told me was very good. Of particular note, as the previous reviewer states, are the giant jars of Nutella on the tables. I have been to this brunch spot twice on two separate visits to Chicago. First time sat outside on a summer day and enjoyed many mimosas- BYOB!! Second time it was a chilly fall day so we sat inside. Was brought here by a different group of friends which is a credit to the place that it was a fan favorite by both groups. The Santa Fe scramble was delicious. All dishes were sizable so bring an appetite! One important measure of a brunch place is the quality of the coffee- this stuff was good and served very hot! Ok - went to Jam 'n Honey last night for dinner, around 6:15 PM. I was greeted with, "are you using Guilt City?" I said yes, but wondered how they knew... I noticed colorful menus on the front desk - but the server never grabbed two as we walked to the table. As I was waiting for the colorful menu to arrive at my table, I discovered the "Guilt City" menu is different from the regular menu. The GC menu is a legal size copy sheet of paper, that looked like quite a few folks had run their fingers across it - not "fresh" looking which was a bit of a turn-off. You have to pick from quite a narrow selection from the sheet - so my wife & I went with a Cesar Salad, which was good, and pasta for the entree. She ordered the non- gluten (2 star she states) and I with the spinach and mushroom with an egg on top - I thought my dish was good, 3 1/2 stars if you will. Summary: If you are trying to impress on a first date - not the place to go, a bit embarrassing being asked about the GC, different menus, etc. Wait till the 4th date :). Came by on Saturday night to use up a Groupon; I'm a little surprised I was this happy with my meal. I got the South of the Border skillet (chorizo and veggies over potatoes); pretty tasty, and massive size for the price. Added a short stack of pancakes that were better than expected also; service was fast and they took credit cards (other reviewers indicated that was not the case, but glad to see that was incorrect this weekend!). I think Jam and Honey can compete with just about every other brunch place in Chicago. They have a great selection of items from French toast to breakfast burritos. Every dish I've had has exceeded my expectations from taste, to portion size and price. One drawback I suppose is that they only take cash, which can be somewhat of an inconvenience. I was in desperate need of some nourishment after a fun NYE, so three of us ventured out to find some brunch. I see Jam 'n Honey every time I go to yoga across the street and have always wanted to try it. We put our name in for the 30 minute wait, which is pretty standard. We then went back to the car to stay warm since there isn't really a waiting area. Our table was ready and we were ready to eat. I had moved onto wanting lunch at that point, so I got the burger with tomato jam, which was surprisingly sweet but a nice touch and prevented me from having to use mustard or ketchup. I also swapped out the brioche bun for foccacia bread which was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The fries were yummy, but could have been a bit crisper. One friend ordered a BLAST and liked it so much she ate the whole thing even though she stopped being hungry half way through. Another friend got the crab egg's benedict and seemed to enjoy them (I am not an egg person so i didn't sample). They had huge lumps of crab meat. My big tip is to order an extra side of toast to sample the jams and nutella on the table. We got ours as an appetizer and it hit the spot and helped tide our hunger until our meals arrived. Today, I came this morning, closed. Another lady came by asking me if I know what time they open- I just shrugged. I see Yelp posted their hours. That's because I have to walk all the way to school to go on a computer and find out. Not everyone has a smartphone. I'll be back to rate their breakfast-- once I finally get in.... Recent visit: and I did finally get in! Had blueberry pancake. I think it was the best blueberry pancake I've ever had. My first glass of milk tasted funny so I told the waitress about it and she gladly changed it to a fresher milk. Tasted better. Spent over $100 to pay for group of eleven (some just had coffee) so the price wasn't too bad. I like that it's located right on the corner- easy to find- but didn't like that it was a busy street because so much pollution came in through their openings (like an outdoor seating) and all I could smell was carbons from some truck. They've seriously maximized the space with tables - meaning there isn't anywhere convenient for you to stand and wait. I'm not sure if they take reservations, but our wait was ~20 minutes at noon on a Sunday. Note that "at this time, we are CASH ONLY." Not sure when they accept cards. The food was pretty tasty - they had one solid hangover meal option (please add more!) and also gluten-free options. They also have a killer duck bacon (which doesn't reheat well, so eat it in house). Beware of how much you order - with an entree, coffee, orange juice, and a gluten-free add-on, I hit $30 including tip. That's a pretty darn pricey breakfast. Had a fantastic experience here for Sunday brunch. They were able to accommodate a group of 9 last minute in about 15 minutes and had excellent service throughout the whole meal. Majority of the table ordered some form of eggs or an omelet, which everyone agreed was great. I opted to go with the local chicken sandwich-delicious flavors and the cranberry mayo was fantastic. Be warned though-it is cash only! Our group had to make a trip to the ATM when the bill came, but there is one inside and two within the same block. What a pleasant surprise! I got the Italian Benedict, and it made me betray my opposition to cash only brunch spot with stupid names. Replacing english muffins with bacon and cheddar risotto cakes really put it over the top, ditto for the tomato jam. Moreover, their potatoes were moist and bursting with flavor - my memory is failing me, but I think they were cooked with onions and peppers; either way, they were perfect. My wife got the chicken and waffles and it was similarly good. The waffle arrived looking rather naked and unadorned; however, along with syrup, every table is stocked with two jams and nutella, which meant that every waffle bite could be one of five different types of delicious. Unlike with 2 Sparrows, which also recently opened in the neighborhood, the folks running Jam N Honey seem like pros. They know what they're doing, and their attention to detail is both deep and broad, from the seasoning on their potatoes to their interior decorating choices, which are simultaneously modern and comfy. Finally! A legit breakfast place in the area. Someplace I could take my friends without being apologetic. From the moment I walked in, I could tell that the owners of Jam n Honey have some prior restaurant experience. The interior decoration is perfect and inviting; it makes you want to stay awhile, sipping your coffee. The service is prompt. The food absolutely exceeded all of my expectations (which might have been artificially low because of their gaudy sign out front.) I ordered the chicken and waffles. The vanilla butter that comes with the waffles is a wonderful treat. I also liberally added maple syrup and nutella and settled into my food coma. My one complaint is that the chicken was a little tough, but I liked the slightly spicy seasoning on it. My husband had the Italian Benedict. Wow! Tomato jam - what a concept! After seeing hoards of people outside J&H on our way to church every Sunday, we finally decided we should give it a whirl. I wasn't expecting much more than a cookie cutter breakfast joint, but I was very pleasantly surprised. We went at 9am on Sunday and were seated right away. The crowd is as expected, lots of young families, a few DePaul kids showing their family around campus. Service is friendly but super fast. It's clear they're into turning tables fast (makes sense, since they have zero indoor waiting space), but not so fast that it's obnoxious. We ordered the chilaquiles and the chorizo potato hash, both to share. If I had to pick a favorite I guess I'd say the hash, which is a nice twist with big chunks of fresh sautéed veggies like zucchini. But the chilaquiles were really good too with a nice hit of spice. The hash also came with big, thick slices of bread that are perfect for the (presumably homemade) jams on the table. Yummo. We'll be back for sure. read more

Definitely a little disappointed with my meal. Whereas my daughter thoroughly enjoyed her French toast, my pancakes while tasty were very tough. The portions were sizable and probably worth the price. I probably should have raised an issue but I didn't. The location is ideal just on the outskirts of the Depaul campus. The interior was clean. Visited Jam n' Honey for dinner early on a Friday evening. A group of co-workers (about ten) decided to give it a try since it was convenient to an event we were working at DePaul. Admittedly, I was not sure what to make of a place called "Jam n' Honey" for dinner. However, I was very happy and well fed at the conclusion. I started off with a cup of homemade chili. I was quickly transported to comfort food heaven. Someone else at our table tried the Minestrone soup, which was also lauded as delicious. Our table ordered a mix of items at the table: burger, turkey burger, short ribs, vodka sauce pasta and such. All items were reported as fantastic. Personally, I loved the bow tie pasta in vodka sauce. Add in chicken - it was a great addition. For dessert, our table shared three orders of tiramisu. Beware on the desserts - they are the size of a bread loaf and way too much for one person. Delicious, none the less. Excellent job for dinner! Highly recommend. read more

I have come here on multiple occasions and have only had the breakfast food. With that stated, I love their breakfast food. The French toast is amazing and so are the eggs and basically everything else on the breakfast menu. I love coming here despite the possible inconvenience of it being cash only. Staff are usually busy with the rush of the restaurant but very friendly. I would highly suggest coming here if you can wait to be seated. To summarize my experiences at Jam and Honey; much more hype from locals that can't break away from eating withing a 2-3 block radius than actual quality food and service. I've had fewitemshere, pancakes and French toast being good but simply overpriced vs other Chicago alternatives, with little specialty to back up the cost. The breakfast burrito is pretty good and is the item of preference. Filling and not excessive in cost, I'd head back for this if it remains on the menu. I had the Italian Benedict and it was the among the best in the Benedict genre that I've had. The risotto cake is phenomenal.
