After reading the reviews and everyone saying it was a long wait for the food I decided to order ahead. We went in a Wednesday night around 8pm. When I got there my food was ready before my pick up time. I ordered oxtails with rice and cabbage, and an extra order of rice and cabbage. I got out to my car and realized we had the wrong extra sides. It was mashed potatoes and green beans. I went back in he apologized and immediately gave me the rice and beans and told me to keep the mashed potatoes and green beans. A+ for customer service. The oxtails were tender, the gravy is seasoned well. The rice and cabbage were good and everything was very flavorful. The portion size was huge. One order was enough for two of us. Soooo... I was hesitant when I saw so many options on the menu. A friend of a friend visited and thought they had good food. I will disagree. Part of this might be my fault... "From the grill" I ordered ribs and chicken. I expected jerk ribs and jerk chicken, you know, from a jamaican spot. What I got was rib tips and chicken literally swimming in bbq sauce. The chicken had some good flavor, you could tell there was a rub and char. The rib tips were painfully dry, uninspired and unflavorful. Came with fries, but were buried under all of the meat and sauce, rendering them soggy and inedible. The sauce was just ok, and not very authentic. A little surprised not to see yucca not on the menu. Cornbread was tasty but crumbly and dry. Plantains were good, but not caramelized as much as I'd like. Nothing some time in a pan can't fix. Shrimp was good, but no real seasoning in the breading or rubbed on the shrimp. Disappointing. Lemon cake was dry and lightly flavorful. I got take out, but what little dining room they have is uninviting. Hopefully I'll stop back and get my favorite, jerk chicken, and have a better experience. This is the only Jamaican restaurant (that I'm aware of) in the West suburbs. It's a small place, located in a strip mall on 59 in Aurora, right before you hit the highway (next to the Naperville border). My SO placed a phone order for jerk chicken with greens and yams, along with jerk shrimp with rice and beans and cabbage on a Sunday, around noon. He was on the road and about 30 minutes out from the restaurant when he called them, but he ended up waiting another 30 minutes for the food when he arrived. Apparently, there were quite a few frustrated people waiting for their food. Thank goodness the food kind of made up for the wait! The jerk chicken was delicious and cooked perfectly. I wanted more! The jerk shrimp was also good, but it was one level too spicy for me. However, my SO thought the spice level was perfect. I could not get enough of the yams and the rice and beans. Based on our experience and other reviews, it would be wise to place an order maybe an hour ahead. Other than the long wait, the food was good and we plan on ordering from them again. The jerk catfish was prepared like none I've ever seen. The fish was pale in color, bland; bland in flavor --not drenched in rich sauce, gravy or spices. Just draped in a colorful medley of peppers. The food is delicious! Yes; it's a bit of a wait and it was worth it. I had the jerk wrap and my husband the jerk chicken dinner. Both were excellent. We ordered after 5 minutes waiting in line and then another 20-25 for the food to be ready. We were there on a Thursday night around 6pm. Staff was attentive and kept us informed on the expected time our food would come out. They care about the food being made fresh after the order comes in. Most of these reviews made me upset because I found this place when they opened I had them cater my wedding last June and they are delicious and very reasonably priced. I think the issue that they face as a restaurant they are in a predominantly white neighborhood and the white folks don't know what good foods are. Someone in the reviews called this food bbq, such an insult! Jerk chicken is Caribbean smoked food. And the food is smoke for hours. So if you aren't into Caribbean food this place isn't for you.
