Our waitress was very inattentive, eating and visiting with customers at the bar while we waited for her to look our way so that we could have our coffee refreshed and get a check. When we arrived it's "wait to be seated". We were the only ones in line and we waited. The 3 servers were talking among themselves. When we sat down we waited again to order. We ordered and we waited a again. A couple came in after us and they got their food before us. I think they were regulars. I had the homemade hash with home fries topped with 2 eggs in a cast iron skillet. The hash was good the home fries were soft and eggs were small. Nice atmosphere and our server was friendly. Met some friends here for a Sunday morning breakfast. I saw all of the 5 star ratings and figured we should give it a shot! Upon walking in, it looks like a really cute place... open, airy and clean. We got there early, so no wait. Overall, what I had was okay. I ordered the Eggs Benedict that had the crab cakes (can't remember the name). It was lukewarm when it got to me. I did notice it took a while for us to have our food served, so I'm assuming mine was sitting waiting for a bit before the other dishes at our table were made. It tasted okay, but hollandaise that is almost cold is not very good as it tends to congeal. Also, I agree with someone else who posted a review that the coffee was very weak. Not good coffee at all, in my opinion. My husband did enjoy the hash skillet dish. My son had the two eggs with bacon and toast, and he seemed to enjoy it. The other two in our party said their meals were okay, and they actually did like the shredded hash browns. James' Breakfast and More - how I love thee! I've been going here since they first opened - the first time. Most of the staff is still here from the original restaurant though it is much expanded. We have been sitting outside due to COVID and the service is great. We love everything on the menu. My current favorite is either the breakfast burrito or the corn beef hash skillet (skiller slammer or something). I will get the skillet and take half home for a delicious lunch. The coffee is hot and yummy - our waitress even gave us a to-go cup after seeing how tired we were with our toddler. :P Our daughter liked her pancakes but wanted to eat more of my eggs than anything! Decided to make the 15 minute drive for some brunch! Cozy atmosphere, and very friendly staff. The chef is a Johnson & Wales Alumni, which is pretty cool- felt like we had a connection since we are alumni as well! I had the crab cake Benedict. The only thing I wish is that the eggs were poached instead of over easy, since it is a Benedict. My boyfriend had the corn beef hash special, he liked it- was better than most he had in the area. So glad I stopped in with my bf. It was about 8:30 on a Saturday morning. We sat right away and got greeted and served promptly. TT was our server. She is fabulous! The food was amazing...super fresh and very quick. I had TT's 2x2....so glad I did. You NEED to try the banana bread French toast. I've had others before and this was far beyond anything I've had. Our breakfast at James' was overall very good. We ordered the Bennies with a Twist and two specials, the banana bread French toast and pumpkin pancakes. The winner out of these three was definitely the French toast, I'd be happy to see them add it to the menu year-round. The pancakes were alright, with large pieces of pumpkin baked into them. The textures were somewhat conflicting although the taste was overall okay. The Bennie's was as usual excellent. First time at Jame's. I had two eggs over easy and they were hard, bacon which was good, but only two pieces! , and toast which was good. I liked the thick slices of toast, although not all the pieces were thick. Brought my mother for breakfast and she had two eggs over easy, also hard, sausage which was grilled, she prefers fried, and the home fries were very geasy. Little disappointed based on the reviews. Nice vibe when you walk in, busy, nice layout, open kitchen and nice tall ceilings. But there was some food issues that I would not return over. And lets face it, the majority of people are clueless when it comes to food. The coffee, brewed fresh, but was weak and pathetic. They brew DownEast which is an established brand in NE. The problem? They use close to 30% less fresh ground coffee than they should per pot? Most Regular blends require about 3oz per pot, and some high yield coffees around 2oz, but this was not high yield coffee. Shame on them having non coffee drinkers setting low cost/coffee standards. Dunkin is the minimum standard, but not as good as Green Mountain or Starbucks Breakfast blends. I went home and brewed a pot for myself. Corned beef was not made correctly being moistened by BBQ sauce??? The classic standard is boiling your own pickled beef till tender, saute lg chunks of onions and lightly caramelize (you cannot just add sauteed diced onions), then with a large grind hole, grind beef and onions together, moisten with Espagnole (brown gravy), add small diced or shredded potatoes (shredded hash browns are fine) adjust salt and pepper...that's it, nothing else. The Best! and 100% palatable. Home fries were browned and very good Sausage gravy, definitely not!! Sick of places that cannot make this. There are two recipe standards, Sausage gravy and creamed Chipped Beef. Mine was simply a lousy Bechamel (thickened milk sauce) with not much else (and no sausage base!!??). At least finish your sauce with a little cream/butter to maximize flavor and season it correctly. You cannot just sprinkle a minuscule amount of left over breakfast sausage on top? and the raw veggie garnish has to go. BTW, you start with a hefty portion of ground pork (or ground sausage), large grind, saute briskly with chopped onions (try to get a little color on these) , season with salt, plenty of black pepper, Fresh Sage and maybe a touch of garlic. When done add flour to make your roux, and cook out well until nutty flavored, then add scalded mike and cook to a gravy. Adjust seasonings and salt, maybe finish with a small amount of butter. You can add a touch of tabasco and Worcestershire but don't over do it. There you have it, hard to screw up! served all over the South this way and the Military. The only garnish that enhances this is chopped scallions. For Gods sake make this correctly! For an upscale place they serve a Aunt Jamaima's imitation maple syrup? After when I asked they said they had real Maple syrup for $2 or $2.50. They should just serve the real and get real. Doesn't cost it add cover counts as a marketing point read more

Great portions and nice meal presentation, which you don't often say about breakfast. This place uses a thoughtful mix of garnishes and flavors to elevate the meals, and their hash is maybe the best I've had. If I had one criticism, after visiting a few times I can say that they over-season their home fries (seasoning salt maybe?). An amazing spot here, very quietly kept hugely busy. It was a short wait and the table was a perfect pub table. I had the breakfast burrito and I must say it was a remarkable bit to eat. Eggs with sautéed tomatoes and onions with perfect black beans and a great shell casing. The salsa was of course handmade there and was quite tasty. Just as I've done in the past, I looked up a new place with decent reviews to visit. This came up on our feed. This is by far one of the most interesting places we have visited. It has a diner/modern eatery vibe to it. The menu has your usual eggs, meat, and potatoes but again unique and delicious. Both my husband and had the killer skillet and one of the special of the day-banana nut bread French toast. To our surprise they also have the Phantom Gourmet's approval. Last two visits to James were not the most stellar and one was during the week. This place used to be the crown jewel of breakfast places in this area, but after trying nearby King Street Cafe, with the combination of excellent food and stellar service, James needs to take a lesson in remembering where they came from. First off, the food is not as great as it used to be even 6 months ago and the service is lacking personality and customer friendliness. The servers here seem to care less about the customers and barely show up to check on you. Sure the place still draws in the crowds, but it is cramped and servers don't turn the tables quick enough. I think Ill pass next time and go up the street for a better experience. read more

I was unhappy with my experience at Jame's Breakfast. The waitress refused to pour my niece a second cup of coffee for reasons being she is nine months pregnant. She was an older woman with blonde hair and bangs and was talking about how she owns horses, I didn't get her name but she was totally out of it. I could understand not serving a pregnant woman alcohol, but not serving a pregnant woman a cup of coffee is insane. She kept saying "Why aren't you drinking decaf?". Also, the corn beef hash had bits of fruit in it and was just terrible. If you are pregnant in the third trdo not go here unless you want to be pregnancy shamed! The service we received was terrible!
