This is not my or my daughter's dentist but came here because my 7 yr old's tooth was cracked and her dentist was out of town and recommended this place. They scheduled her in very quick. Everyone there is very friendly. The Dr. checked her tooth and didn't even charge for the time checking it. I haven't had the pleasure of being assisted by Dr. Block yet but have spoken to him. Very easy to talk to and very personable. This review is more towards the rest of his staff who I had the pleasure of being helped by. Everyone is super friendly and nice. The office itself is very maintained and clean. Carlene, the dental hygienist helped me with my cleaning and did a superb job. Was very easy to work with, even provided me with some classy stunna shades. Provided excellent care of my teeth and kept me informed of times that my teeth may feel sensitive and asked if I was okay. Didn't have to worry about trying to talk or respond back like some other dentist do, which is hard when they have their hands in your mouth ( and when she did, she knew to ask during times I could actually speak or could respond with nods ) Lastly, the last part after the cleaning, the grit thing to shine or clean the teeth tasted like sugar cookies. I started seeing Dr. Block and his staff about 15 years ago, after I moved up to the Bay Area from LA. Before that, I was seeing what I thought was a good dentist. However, now that I've been seeing Dr. Block, my teeth are in the best shape they've been in since I was a kid. His hygienist staff is top notch. Aileen is my hygienist, and she is fantastic. She gives me very practical pointers on how to keep my gums in good shape, my teeth white, and the tartar under control. She is so nice, and she's pleasant without being too chatty. She is very professional and well-trained. Dr. Block himself is a consummate professional. He follows in his father's footsteps--his dad, Hugh Block was a local dentist for many decades. Dr. Block has a USC Dental School degree and worked with some very seasoned dentists before starting this practice. He has not pushed dental work on me that I don't need, instead he focuses on what the "right" treatment is. He also will refer to me to other professionals if I need something out of his scope. I travel about 50 minutes to Dr.Blocks office for dental because the care and treatment is great. I leave Dr.Blocks feeling as though I had just caught up with old friends. I am twenty now and have been going to Dr.Blocks since I was a child. For those with small children and anyone else who's uneasy about needles, Dr.Block has a technique where he numbs the gums with a topical ointment before he starts! Dr block and his staff are all extremely friendly and their main concern is that you feel comfortable and are at peace with whatever decisions you make about your mouth health. Everything was explained in great detail so that I was very informed of why certain things needed to be done and was able to also make an informed decision. Don't be scared of the mouth pic, but I got my teeth whitened and have extremely sensitive teeth. They turned out beautiful and I had 0 sensitivity. read more

Before I go on, I must admit that I have a fear of dentists.. like TERRIFIED. I confessed to Dr. Block of this and not only did he intently listen to my past experiences with dentists, but he reassured me that my comfort level is his top priority. He was so sincere - I believed him and trusted him with my teeth (I know, I sound so pathetically over dramatic, but I have a true phobia of dentists!) Unfortunately, I needed a root canal and Dr Block referred me to an wonderful endodontist, Dr Vera - who did the procedure pain-free! Shortly after, I had to return to Dr Block for my crown. And the procedure went so smoothly and also pain-free!! Even the initial numbing injection was painless. He was super patient and meticulous the whole time. Made sure we had frequent rests in between, which I'm actually thankful for. A wonderful family dentist! I've been going to Jim Block since 2000 after being with my previous dentist in Sunnyvale for almost 25 years. Dr. Block is the BEST! His office is centrally located in Fremont (across the street from Washington Hospital and BART), his equipment and techniques are very modern, and everyone on his office staff are helpful, friendly, and experienced. Simply. The. Best. I've been seeing Dr. Block and his incredible staff for several years. I followed my parents to his office from a major Fremont dental group. I had been seeing his other dental office since I was a teenager and I just didn't think I'd be able to find a better office although I was not receiving good service or care. I would see a different dentist nearly every time and at one point it seemed like all the dentists and hygienists I'd known had left. We'll compare this to Dr. Block's office: everyone who works in Dr. Block's office is a gem. I've never had an attitude or a power trip or experienced an a counter with someone who was having a bad day. I have seriously never had a bad experience or received bad service. I don't have any major dental issues but I am very particular, very sensitive and suffer from TMJ. I could go on and on about the great visits I've had: the patience and care of my hygienist Julia, the personal attention each patient receives from the doctor himself, and the near perfect smile I have now after doing the 6-month smile orthodontic treatment. I have a lot of anxiety about the health of my teeth so it's nice to be around dental professionals who are even more committed to the details or oral health and hygiene, cleanliness, CARE, and providing a tailored treatment for each patient. I am very different from my mother, father and husband (all patients of Dr. Block's) and yet we each get personal care from him that suits our individual needs and personalities. There are not very many establishments left like Dr. Block's dental office. I am treated like a whole human being. I just wish I could find an MD like this!! Last week I saw Dr. Block for a filling and a bit of repair on a chipped tooth. I have been seeing Dr. Block since I was a young child back when he was at his old location. I have never had a bad experience. His staff is always very friendly and makes sure all of my needs are met. The office is always very clean and well stocked with any supplies you may need. I have not just gotten my teeth cleaned here or cavities filled, I also did their 6 month smiles program. My teeth were straightened in about 4 months. It was amazing. I have recently moved from Fremont, to Tracy and I refuse to go to another dentist out here. I just make sure I get over there as often as I can. He is definitly worth the drive! I initially started seeing Dr. Randy Mitchell back in the early 80's. When Dr. Block graduated from USC Dental School, Dr. Block took over the practice from Dr. Mitchell. Since then, which must have been early 90's, I have only gone to Dr. James Block. He is a great dentist who takes time with his patients and asks a lot of questions about my family and my mouth health. He also has a number of really nice (and thorough) dental hygienists.
