If you are staying downtown it's only a 15 -20 walk to Atlantic Ave and Hook. There are other options on the menu but the lobster rolls are king here. Yes they are expensive but the lobster is fresh and as mentioned previously you do receive a generous amount of claw and tail meat. You can order a hot or cold roll. I'm a cold/Mayo roll guy. Plus 1 and I ordered 2 then split a 3rd. There are plenty of beverage options I went with the Sam's Summer Ale. There is a large covered patio and limited inside dining. I LOVE James Hook. When I first moved to the East Coast, I vowed that I would make trips to Boston for lobster/lobster rolls, and on our first trip, we tried a few different places, and James Hook turned out to be our favourite. On our latest stop-by in Boston, we had about 1.5 hours to kill before needing to get to South Station, so we ran to James Hook to get some lobster rolls and lobster bisque before heading back. That's how much we love this place. Strangely, on our past visit, the service was pretty quick. That usually isn't the case when you're ordering anything to do with lobster, but that was a pleasant surprise. The lobster bisque and the lobster rolls really hit the spot for us. Yes, this place is a little expensive, but so worth it if you're looking for a good lobster roll. One thing that I don't love about this place though is that there's not that many seats. Luckily, I managed to get a table both times we visited, so it wasn't a big issue for me, but just something to be aware of! Anyway, would definitely recommend this place. After our Freedom Trail tour we walked over to the wharf for the iconic lobster rolls! We arrived around 1245pm on a Saturday afternoon. We stood in line for about 15-20 minutes and ordered a warm lobster roll, crab cake, Coleslaw and a Harpoon beer. I ever grabbed a souvenir shirt for $20, and a red velvet whoopie pie for dessert. I spent under $70 which was a good deal, for the delicious tasting food! It was crowded but there were a lot of people coming and going. We found a spot under the umbrellas and enjoyed our meal. James Hook serves my favorite lobster roll in Boston! I've tried a few, and this remains the best. It's fresh, and the lobster meat remains in large chunks. Choices for lobster roll are with mayo or butter, and regular or large. I get the chilled version with mayo, regular size. The brioche roll is buttered, warm, and slightly toasted. They also offer other seafood at the counter. My friend is also a big fan of their clam chowder. I tried the stuffed clams this time. It was ok. In terms of seating, small tables inside the shack. I'm the summer there are picnic tables outside and more of a food truck vibe. Yes it's pricey. But the price is pretty average for lobster rolls in Boston. Tl;dr: Check this place out! Justified tourist spot. The best lobster roll I've ever had and just one of the juiciest and most satisfying bites of Lobster ever. Pro tip, get the lobster bisque to dip your roll in and you just get Lobster squared, an explosion of lobster in your mouth. Get absolutely lobstered. We visited over the Presidents' Day holiday weekend on a tour of lobster rolls. This was the first set of lobster rolls we ate and probably our fourth favorite of the weekend. We had both the mayonnaise based and butter only, on warm rolls. All of the lobster rolls in the town are pretty expensive around $30-$40 each. But this one did not come with anything at all. No chips, no fries, nothing. The lobster in this roll was plentiful, but it was a bit more chewy than other rolls we ate. Seriously best lobster roll in Boston ever. This is my personal opinion but I think this place serves the best and one of the only places that serves a nice simple warm buttered lobster roll. The lobster meat is so unbelievably fresh. I've tried a few different lobster places around the city and nothing beats this place. I also really like those crab cakes and clam chowder. They have a nice selection of fish too at the front and are all fresh. Cool selection of merch too. I like their various drinks they offer and surprisingly serve good wine and beer as well. During busy seasons it's always packed so hard to find seating but other than that i highly recommend! read more
