Went in today to buy some Shiplap., the guy told me it was 1.38 per foot and today was a 10% discount., I told him what I wanted and said I'd be back to pick it up in a few hours., he told me it would be ready when I return. I returned a few hours later to pick up and it wasn't ready but no big deal.. I waited for about 20 mins and when they rung it up the guy said it would be 3.38 per foot.., I told him when I was there earlier that he gave me a price of 1.38 per foot. My wife even wrote the price down on her phone.. the sales guy denied he gave that price and called me a liar., needless to say after that I was in is face and scared the shit out of him.. the guy was a total liar and a POS!! They make it really hard to support their small business. I purchased a faucet supply line less than a week ago, it started to leak. My customer called me back to fix the leak, they didn't have the receipt I gave them for the part. I went back to do an even exchange, and though the supply line still had all the original tags on it, with the bar code, they wouldn't let me exchange for the same exact part. I had to purchase the supply line again. So not only do they charge more for their parts, they make it inconvenient when situations like this happen. I could understand it they didn't have a bar code to reference, but everything was the same as I walked out of the store with it the first time. I wouldn't have this problem at a big box store. read more

Visit the store about a year ago. And as I walked in was not greeted or asked if I needed help. When we did ask for help. The lady was very short with us. My husband returned today and asked for help. Workers not helpful with him he explained what he needed, had to return the parts because they were the wrong ones. When he had explained to them it wasn't the right one. He was looking for something else they made. It seem like he didn't know what he was talking about. We are homeowners and fix our home for the last 10 years. He does have pretty good knowledge of what he's doing. Sad to say. We also seen them being helpful towards other customers more than us. I went t here yesterday afternoon in search of extension jambs, I am putting in a pre hung door and the jamb measures 4 9/16" wide, my 1965 year old home has plastered walls and they finish out at 5 1/4", I found a jamb leg that measured 5/8" thick by x 4 1/2" wide x 97 13/16 long, this would work perfectly as all I had to do is rip this 3/4" wide x 81 3/4" length, then I would use glue and gun nail it to the jamb getting the 5 1/4" width I needed, I took the jamb leg to the counter and the gentlemen (as you face the counter) sitting at his desk, to my far left, first desk assisted me, and he went to his desk looked up what I had and then came back to the counter and told me that the cost is $90.63 cents, I misheard, and handed him a $20.00, and he restated the $90.63, to which I replied what he had said, and he said correct! I said "Oh no, that's to much and he crumpled what looked to be the hand written bill, and I returned the jamb leg to where I got it... The following day (today, 8/12/2021) I went to Ganahl Lumber, 6586 Beach Blvd., Buena Park, and went through their lumber racks and found jamb legs, this one was a 5 1/4" width, 3/4" wider than the one at James Company, I took it to the counter and asked for the price, and was told that the price is $17.79, I purchased it and told them of my encounter with James Company and they all laughed, I did not however. On the drive home I started thinking about the guy at James Company and just started getting angry... I am curious if there was an underlying ugly reason why he thought he could treat me in such a manner? I will never, ever go back there again, and it is only about a mile from where I live as opposed to Ganahl Lumber is 6 miles from home. I am a retired Carpenter Working Supervisor, and find this type of behavior very suspicious, I am a person of color. Anyway, you can go here and God only knows if you will be the next unsuspecting victim, or just stay away from this place all together, there is an Ace Hardware store in La Habra further east on Leffingwell, you might try going there, as I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE OF COLOR SHOP HERE... I've been shopping for my hardware needs at James Hardware for the past 30 years. I'm surprised it took me so long to write a review but I had an experience with John, a store employee, that prompted me to finally share the regular experiences I've had over the last three decades. Needing a miscellaneous bolt for my truck bed, John took the time to help me. In fact, he seemed eager to solve my small issue. John patiently listened to my need, understood what I was trying to accomplish and even made a trip to the parking lot to take a look at my truck himself. After a few minutes, I was checking out with a friendly cashier and was in my way home. It's experienced people/employees like John that regularly set James Hardware apart from the big box stores. read more

This review is for the window and door facility which is next door to the hardware store, but on the same lot. Came in with some old damaged window screens and asked if they could be remade in the exact same size and dimensions. The bearded gentleman behind the counter told me yes, they could and took some quick measurements based off the old screens I brought with me. Quoted me $37 per screen which is a very good price. The big box stores do sell do it yourself window screen kits, but they have really bad reviews and most people complain the frames are flimsy. For about $15 more per screen I was happy to leave it to the pros. I was told screen replacement jobs were being done in one week time. But I got a phone call the very next day telling me my screens were ready for pickup. I brought them home and I'm impressed with the results. Their strong, the screen is pulled tight, and they added pull tabs at one end which really helps with installation. I will be back to have more home improvement needs taken care of here. I will definitely consider using this location for a replacement patio sliding door and new windows in the future. read more

First I would like to say if there were more stars I would give them more! The customer service here is phenomenal. I ordered a water filter system online and upon installation or should I say 2 hours, a few choice words and a trip to Lowe's later I figured out the manufacturer had sent me the wrong nut. Next morning I return to Lowe's who once again couldn't help me and they pointed me to James Hardware. Never before this day would I have been able to tell you what a fine thread vs regular vs compression but was. I found out today. Wayne helped me tremendously and gave me a bit of an education. He took time so much as even though they did not have the correct nut, Wayne took the time to MAKE the piece I need. He cut a stopper compression nut so that I would be able to get the faucet to stay on!! THANK YOU!! I will definitely be returning! read more

Don't use this company. They do not care about their customers. We purchased back doors though them and they have not been installed correctly. When we were purchasing the doors we discussed pre-hung. We were told we did not need pre-hung. We used the installer that they recommended. The doors do not close properly. The light and air come through. The installer, Chris Stark from Chriscraft, obviously doesn't know what he is doing. He came back but still not right. When he left the doorknob was not properly put back on and we had to fix Now he says there's nothing else he will do. I called James Hardware. They said they would call back and never did. When I called them again they said they will not do anything. So we have doors that light and air comes through. They could care less about their customers. We will never go back. 4-24-20 update- seriously Lillian, why did you even make a comment? We will never go back and our neighbors and friends know about the doors also. Your comment makes it worse. You're sorry and no offer to make it right? You further support that your company doesn't care. We're not going to do good work for you or stand by our work but come back and spend your money here. Love this place! I am a very picky, know what I want, kind of girl. When I showed them a picture of the front door I wanted they looked up the price and told me it would be $10,000! Of course I told them I wanted to spend much less but I wanted the same style door as my picture. Well, I got exactly what I wanted but it was under $1000. They helped me custom design a large, two door, front door and it turned out absolutely gorgeous! I also bought my very modern looking door handle and lock from James and I love it. This store is great, they also referred me to Vic Botta to hang my door and Mike at Paint It Custom to paint it and my house. These guys were great and did a beautiful job. James Hardware is as good as it gets. This well laid out store carries most all standard plumbing, electrical, hardware, paint and tool products you will ever need. They also have specialty merchandise from premium worldwide manufacturers. (Such as a high-grade German grout saw which looked awesome!). They literally have a wall of catalogs from virtually every hardware related company in the back of the store at the special order desk. David at the special order desk was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Huge selection of door hardware (more than HD or Lowe's- and it's the best stuff: Emtek and Baldwin, as well as Schlage), due to their sister operation (right next door) which sells/installs doors and windows to order and supplies contractors with building material. Came here for a screen door. The employee whom was tall white older thin man long hair or beard I can't remember was very rude. First of all I came in and as I began to explain what I needed along with my dad he seemed annoyed. My dad went on to explain what he specifically needed and the rude man was looking away ignoring my dad. Then I needed to use the bathroom because I felt sick all of a sudden and needed to vomit from something I ate and the man told me they had no public restrooms so I had to walk outside and vomit in the parking lot. Our cat scratched up the screen door so had to get it rescreened. I called three places for pricing: 1) Mobile rescreening company to come to our house to rescreen = $69 2) Home Depot = $90 trip charge to come to the house + $30/screen 3) James Hardware = $23.27 (with tax)/screen. You drop off the screen door and pick up when it's done I went with James Hardware since this place is nearby. Dropped it off. Picked it up within a week. Popped the screen back in and good as new. Would definitely be bring other screens here for rescreen. Can't beat the prices. Staff very friendly too. James Hardware consists of two stores: James True Value Hardware & James Builders Supply (building next door in the same parking lot) that does windows, doors, sliding door screen, and fireplace mantle. Ive only been here once, and that one visit was enough for me to decide to never shop at home depot or lowes again. Unless I absolutely have to. The store is smaller yea, and there might not be as large of a selection of some items. Even completely lacking certain things. And I haven't done a price comparison. But what sets this store at a level that the big name stores will never reach, is the expertise, experience and general pleasantness of the staff. Where home depot is full of HS drop outs who don't know a C Clamp from Sea Horse, the staff here can answer your questions without hesitation, without going, ummm I've actually never used a screw driver before so I can't say for certain, and without that impatient and sarcastic tone that really pisses me off whenever I go to home depot.
