I love Merritt's Ace Hardware. I've been going there for years, but I just had a horrible experience. First, I think it is so unprofessional when the male manager yells at the employees on the sales floor. I witnessed him yelling at two employees in front of customers. He yelled at one employee where they duplicate the keys, and he was yelling at another employee in the plumbing section. Second, I felt discriminated against. An employee was racially profiling me. An employee was following me throughout the store, watching everything I picked up and put down, not helping any other customer, just looking at me. I just felt very uncomfortable. read more

Staff is always friendly and helpful and they have good prices and they have a knife carving machine they have dog supplies, cute gardening decor and a nice little knife selection and bbq supplies even rubs and spices!!!! They even have frozen pies that are heard were pretty good. read more

No signage for curbside pick up orders. 3.5/5 Service (Limited Interactions) No signage for Curbside pick up orders so I called once I arrived and got transferred twice before the same person who answered picked up and came out with the order. 5/5 Tools They had exactly what I needed that larger retailers don't carry in their stores. Sprinkler pieces can be difficult to find but this location is an Ace in the hole. If you have tools you need its tools they got. Easy five stars. Ace Hardware dropped off a Weber Genesis 3-series grill, but the leftmost burner wouldn't ignite. (Seems to be a manufacturer issue.) After I phoned in the problem, Nicole and Mark made all the difference: they promptly refunded my purchase, walked me through purchasing a new grill, dropped off the new (working) grill, and took back the first one, no questions asked, and at no additional cost. Everyone knows this is the place to go when you need a hard to find whatever it is. Ace will most likely have it. This place has the things that Home Depot and Lowe's don't. The little obscure things and quite a bit of the larger things needed for your home. It was a Saturday morning. My garage door fell closed on its own. I checked the basic things then went to google to search for the answer to my problem. Not long after I discovered what appeared to be the problem. I needed to replace a worn limit swift. I made a few calls and checked Amazon. HD and Lowe's didn't know what I was talking about. Amazon would deliver later this week. Then I called Merritt and spoke to Rhonda. Ok I was on hold for 20 minutes but guess what, they had it. I drove over and picked it up. Rhonda met me in front with the item. After about 20 minutes of labor my problem was I fixed. My issue rests with management and their processes more than anything, they need better communication, systems, training, something because the ordeal I've been through to get a car key has been ridiculous. I went in to get a replacement key and was so happy to find out they not only carried my key (via special order) but that they could also program it for me. Unfortunately after I paid $200 for the key a staff member cutting the key drilled a hole through it and broke it. I had to wait another week for a new key to arrive and received very little remorse or consideration from the staff, was constantly calling trying to get updates on when the new key would arrive and received the most "I don't care attitude". When I went back to pick up my 2nd new key, the staff member cut it correctly but now they couldn't program it after 5pm because the programming required a code only accessible over a phone service which closed at 5pm. They claim to do programming till 6pm so I was confused by the issue and even more upset with the continued communication issue. I had to hound and call to even get answers about my key and every time they acted as if I was such a bother despite their fault in the matter. I was told to come at 4pm, showed up and they still couldn't do the one thing I needed and already paid for. I'm extremely frustrated and disappointed in their service. read more

The service here is top notch. I asked a question and it was answered and I was also given reasons why that particular product was better than others based on personal experience. The product worked for me too when I got home to try it. The store seemed cluttered at first but it actually wasn't and I'll be back next time I have another need. I had ordered a leaf blower online to get it delivered to my home and let me tell you, it went really smoothly! My wife and I have only been customers for a couple of months now, but every time we stop in the service is fantastic, and the prices are comparable, or better, than the big box stores (Home Depot and Lowes). There's plenty of parking right around the store...you don't have to walk half a mile, like you do at the big box stores. We used to have an Ace Hardware near our home in San Diego, so we're really glad we discovered this location so close to home. read more

I went there to get a plumbing fitting adaptor but had trouble recognizing the size. I asked an employee ( older White gentleman with grey hair and a pony tail) who was working in the plumbing area if the fitting I was showing him would fit. I even brought in the part that it was supposed to fit into. He asked me a few questions about what size I needed, and I told him I did not know. I explained it to him I just needed to know if it was fit the part that I brought in. He again repeated his question. All he had to do was look at the part and size. Considering someone who works in plumbing, he should be able to tell but instead, he just gave me the blank stare. I told him that I will take care of it. I opened the package and checked it myself. I ended buying the part. I have always had good service there and most employees are cordial and helpful....except him. I think I will stick with Lowes or Home Depot. Very disappointed. read more

Would've given this store 2 stars, but I used to go to Ace Hardware with my dad all the time and I don't want to ruin their rating here. Anyways, I understand that returns without receipt can be annoying and as a customer, pretty embarrassing that I forgot where my receipt was after a very tough month. I received the HARDEST EYE ROLL ever from one of the store associates after I said, "sorry, I can't find the receipt and would like to do a return or exchange". After she finished rolling her eyes she thus doubled down by giving me rude attitude customer service afterwards and get-out-of-my-face vibes. After that, I did not get to return my item and exchange. I came back later to purchase something else from another associate, he was much kinder. I ain't a snitch so I am not gonna say names. What a truly wonderful place.....listen I'm going to be real 110%. I'm in my early 30's and I never imagined myself having fun at a hardware store. I'm just saying this is the type of thing my father would do, not me. I'm into comic books and video-games, not wrenches and bolts! But here I found myself perusing the endless aisles of hardware and home goods. I'd come in trying to get a pine cleaner that was $24.99 on Amazon but here it was $9.99. Much to my amazement as soon as I walked in I was greeted with a flood of welcoming people, and helpful guides all around. The vibes really made me happy, the people really made me happy. I'd gone to Lowe's and Home Depot and I was never welcomed, much less greeted upon entering. Heck, thinking of it now I can understand why the employees there don't do that, they're stuck working for a soulless corporate owned business that doesn't put much value into them. At Merritt's it's a different story. It's like taking a trip to the friendly town hardware store you see in movies and television. My experience was so amazing I spent about $200 dollars on things, because they don't just carry hardware, they carry everyday things I needed. For instance my dog needed a new bed, found one here. Plus a few toys for her to play with. At one point I was getting my pocket knife sharpened and some house keys copied. While that was being done I got an LED spotlight, some key rings I needed, detergent and heck why not a new fan for the summer. This place is so friendly I had a ball with people that helped me like Nicole, Cristina, and Janice! Don't let the outside looks fool you, the inside is truly big, every space is used told hold something and it's we'll stocked and clean. At one point my girlfriend called me and asked me what I was doing, and I told her I was at ACE. She was like "It's like a hidden gem!". Don't let the word "hardware" in the title fool you there's more here than just hardware, there's home goods, pet products, lawn care material and most of all.....there's love. read more

Today I went to pick up my Windows screen that I ordered two days ago. They only had one done out of two the person attending me. Told me they forgot to make one. He said he will make it so I had to wait 40 minutes for him to make it then I had to take a receipt to the cashier and she wanted me to sign the papers they do everything here the old-fashioned way. this is not the first time I had a problem here they need the management to keep a better eye on their new employees that they're doing their job correctly instead of walking around doing nothing. read more

A while back I left a very negative review on how the staff looks down on customers. I asked as to why they had to escort my drill bit to the counter. I was told that it is a high crime area. I asked if I looked like a thief? I told them that I visit the store often and felt that they were being judgemental. Rhonda got involved and it just escalated from there. I still have not returned. On 8-14-24 I went to Ace hardware store, in La Puente to have my screens changed to a darker mesh. 4 small screens, I was charged $261.00, for this job, on 2-15-3024, I pick up my screens and they were done very poorly. I called a manager and a woman came to help me she said that yes they were done wrong. A female manager called a male manager, and I told him the problem with the screen that they were very loose and they were falling apart, and they tried to fix them while I was there, but they were still falling apart read more

My family has been shopping at this hardware store for more than 20 years and we absolutely love the quality of service and knowledge from their employees. The shop has an expansive inventory and makes it easy to pick up pieces to complete the latest project. Every section of the store is staffed with an employee who is properly trained and professional. I love the 'small town' vibes it has always had and I would gladly shop here before entering a larger home improvement store (i.e. Home Depot). I can definitely recommend this to others. A good old fashion neighborhood hardware store, that far exceeds expectations in customer service. Here, they're friendly, and they seem that they want to help you. The other places, it might take you ten minutes to find somebody, and when you do, it's not their department. With their hardware portion of the store. Parts, tools and merchandise, they have a good amount of items in stock. It's not a 100% gaurantee that they will have every item that you need, but more like 95% of the time, they will have what you came in for. Not bad considering that this place is only a third of the size of the mega hardware store chains. Merritt's is an old time family hardware store that we grew up watching on TV. I have been coming here with my dad since I was a kid. Have an questions, they can help. From replacing the screen on your screen window frames to finding that fixture for that leaky faucet you don't want to lose yet. The people here are typically awesome. I mean I have been coming for over 4 decades and there have been one or two that were not very helpful but so many are. When I first purchased my house, I came here so many times for help. I remember there was a Filipino lady that used to know more about plumbing than anyone I have ever asked at a storefront. She has since retired but when I need plumbing fixtures, washers or anything else I always go to Merritt's first. They usually have some cool things for sale too. Do I really need that Lodge Dutch oven for my camping equipment. Hell I haven't camped in 10 years but fun to see. But then again, if I do decide to go camping again, I can get that walking stick too! read more

I needed a key asap and found this place through my handy dandy Yelp app.The place smells of what once was back in the day,from the sliding cabinets made of glass to the fans blowing everywhere from the lack of central air in the store.The isles hold old but necessary items that are hard to come buy for those old homes.But I was here to make a couple of keys.They have your basic key selection but they also carry specialty keys with your favorite sports teams and characters.The guy running the key shop had no customer skills whatsoever but I let it slide because I was on a time constraint and no time for his sad song and dance on why he's doing that job.
