this chicken shawarma half sandwich is one of the only half sandwiches that i'd say is worth $14. surprised by the amount of chicken they put, not too stingy and the ingredients are fresh and the dill and hummus flavors work really well together. i really like the chocolate sourdough they sell on weekends. the other baked goods are a hit or miss. follows the trend of the overpriced SF pastries ($6 average). the dirty chai iced latte was a huge miss. worth a visit to see for yourself, choose wisely. read more

Smells so good from blocks away! They have so much varieties of sweet and savory pastries, bread and sandwiches to choose from! We tried roast beef sandwich and prosciutto burrata sandwich and the bread itself was pretty good even after having it the next day. For pastries, we had the olive & pistachio twist and raspberry brioche. They were both not too sweet and had their own taste of texture. They also have coffee which I'll try next time! There's a small parking lot that usually have people move in and out pretty quickly so very convenient if you're driving in! There was a short line around lunch time on a Saturday that moved very fast. Lots of choices from sandwiches to cookies to bread to pastries that all are very visually appealing. They do run out of certain types of pastry such as their cinnamon roll so you should come earlier for those. There's an outdoor seating area for you to enjoy the pastry at the restaurant. You can also pay with Blackbird here which is convenient. There's more variety than Arsicault, but if you're looking for crossiants, the ones here are definitely not as good. read more

This was my first time ever going to this bakery and goodness I loved everything I got, yet I was disappointed that my strawberry danish went bad when I went to eat at the next day. I have a marble countertop where it stays rather cold, and I placed the pastry on the counter there so it would stay cold so I could eat it for breakfast Sunday morning yet when I went to eat it, I found the mole. I could still eat the pastry around it since the only part was bad with the strawberry. Lol, but it made me wonder if the strawberries were freshly made that day or from another morning. As I walked into the bakery, there was a line in front of me that moved rather quickly so it took maybe 5 to 10 minutes for me to get my order and I ordered eight different pastries! Lol Service was rather quickly and the lady surfing me was very patient since I walked back-and-forth between different Pastory cases since I couldn't see everything as I walked up to the front. I love their assortment of savory pastries with mushrooms and other savory pizza like items as well as their sweets that they had like the danish and coffee cake. They also had a number of gluten-free items that were delicious as well! The gluten-free crumble coffee cake I got was simply superb! The queue out the door says it all. I come here every time I have a softball game next door at Kimbell field. The breads and pastries are always perfect. I often have their quiche and do suggest it to be heated as I've tried it cold once and learned my lesson. This weekend i tried the mushroom tart and I enjoyed every bite. Items are first come first serve so don't sleep in too long. No inside seating but there are a few street stalls just outside. The park next door is the better option. read more

Wow, what a sweet spot to visit while we were in town for my birthday! Chris & Megan were both wonderful in offering us some recommendations and boy were they right! Chris recommended the babka (we decided on the apple butter version) and the twice baked ham & swiss croissant & Megan recommended the Blackberry Kouign Amann. The babka reminds me of monkey bread, sticky and delicious until the last bite! The ham & Swiss croissant is melty and delicious and just falls apart in your mouth beautifully. The blackberry kouign amann, no idea what I even ate but boy I can't wait to have it again and the crisp on the outside reminds me of the top of a crème brûlée. The crème/yogurt filling was SO good. We also tried the Swiss chard galette, it tasted like a filled classic biscuit without the gravy, and finally, I got a hot chocolate for the road and even that exceeded expectations & tasted straight like a melted chocolate bar! The bread and pastries are good, but the workers are not very sanitary. I was there watching for five minutes, and I see the workers cleaning the counters with their gloves on wiping it and serving the customers by hand picking up the pastries not using a Tung. Great coffee and tasty pastries -- what more can you ask for? I frequently (perhaps too frequently...) drop by Jane for a quick bite before work, and I'm always impressed by the wide spread of pastries, ranging from the classics to creative and unique confections. I first tried my go-to baseline -- a chocolate croissant and cappuccino -- and I was quite impressed overall! The croissant was buttery and flakey, and it had plenty of chocolate. If anything, it might have had slightly too much chocolate for my taste, since it was quite a bit sweeter than I'm used to, but that might be a controversial take. I've branched out in subsequent visits, often heavily influenced by whatever the person in front of me ordered. I adore their cardamom bun, which is flakey, buttery, and sweet but not overly so. The bun is filled with a vanilla cream that's tasty and surprisingly light (and lightly sweetened), creating a really tasty and balanced treat. For something more savory, I also love their olive and pistachio twist. It is, again, buttery and flakey, but has a great punch of flavor from the generous helping of olives. I love the added nuttiness from the ground pistachios; I will warn you that it does get stuck to your teeth pretty easily, so I'd enjoy this with water. The staff was super friendly and efficient -- I was in and out within five minutes, which included my indecision at the counter -- so it's a great spot if you're in a rush. There isn't any indoor space to sit down, but there's a standing counter along the window or a few communal booths outside that you can hang out at. The coffee is nice and nutty, and I love getting the cappuccino here to more fully taste the flavor of the beans. They recently started trying out a new type of almond milk that comes in powder form, so the baristas can adjust the level of water (and therefore the consistency and flavor). It's a bit sweetened but not much, so I love that they're able to make the milk a bit creamier and overcome the classic barista challenge with almond milk -- the wateriness. As they were testing it out, the baristas also asked for customer input, so it was super fun to chat and brainstorm with them, and I loved how open to feedback they are. read more

I had to get sourdough bread while visiting San Francisco and I'm so glad we chose this spot. This bakery is located in a small strip mall with a one way entry parking lot. Parking is tough in San Francisco and unfortunately having a parking lot didn't help. It was full with no sign of anyone leaving. Street metered parking is also available. Some reviews mentioned long lines. We visited on a Monday around 1pm. No lines, but most of the pastries were out. Sandwiches, pastries, and bread were on the menu. The sourdough was priced at $10, which I found reasonable considering the large size of the loaf. We also chose a chocolate chip cookie. It's more of a take-out spot, but there's so many places to enjoy your food. The sourdough bread along with the chocolate chip cookie were absolutely delicious! Got here around 730 on a Saturday morning just to snag a cinnamon roll, which was disappointingly only ok. I honestly feel like Cinnabon is better... sorry to all the redditors that suggested this was the best cinnamon roll in the city! Chocolate croissant was also mid but I appreciated that the chocolate was a bit darker. Nothing beats Ariscauly. The brioche part of the raspberry brioche wasn't anything to write home about. In fact, it was almost a little dry. The custard on it was pretty good. The only thing we really enjoyed was the pistachio olive twist, which has a robust flavor and amazing texture. All of the pastries I tried is very yummy. I also like how I can use Blackbird app to gain loyalty points. However, the frustrating point is they ran out of my favorite twice baked almond croissant usually by 8:30am. I live in the inner Richmond district but their Jane the Toyboat location doesn't sell as many pastries as this one. I was only able to buy the almond croissant the third time I came when it was less crowded on a Friday at 8:30am. On Sunday when I come during lunch time, most of the pastries are gone and one time even the flatbread pizzas were gone. I don't understand why they don't bake more of the really popular items instead of customers feeling frustrated that the items I want to buy are sold out. read more

We popped in after a wonderful meal in the Avenues for a little sweet treat. I'd probably rate it around a 3.9. Service was friendly. I got two cookies. The Big Chewy was soft, heated up, and had everything in it - oatmeal, walnuts, berries, chocolate chips. Kind of like the whole kitchen sink in a cookie. Pretty good, though a bit expensive at four dollars each. The Crazy Cookie was different - crunchy, sticky, like toffee or caramelized marshmallow. Not something I'd crave often, but not a waste either. We also had the Lemon Cake. The flavor was mild, not overbearing. You could taste the lemon, but it didn't wow you. It was thick and dense. There was only one person ahead of me when I arrived, but the line grew quickly after a group walked in, so timing seems to matter (though a weekday wait probably doesn't get tooo bad). There were so many delicious-looking options that it was tough to choose just a few! I ended up getting a cardamom bun, kouign amann, and a crazy cookie for my husband and I to share. Everything was so tasty, and the prices felt reasonable for SF. This was one of my favorite Kentucky Fried Chicken location in San Francisco . You could see a huge Kentucky Fried Chicken Bucket hanging as high as a flag on a flag pole . The KFC bucket stood out for blocks. Inside The Jane Bakery was lots of savory and sweet treats. They had lots of different types of baked goods. They also had rustic breads along with not too cheesy pepperoni flatbread pizza. I had their plain and savory croissant and it was delicious but a little flakey. It's the genuine article but it's not as good as the San Francisco GOAT Arsicault. Jane keeps standing up to the test of time. I just stopped in for my last time before a cross country move and the cardamom lattice bun I landed on was a perfect send off. The pastry is flakey, the cream filling of full of cardamom flavor and NOT overly sweet. Their seasonal brioches never fail to delight, and the coffee is goooood. I had a really lovely exchange with the counter person about how hard it is to leave SF that will stay with me for long time, which doesn't surprise me at all. The bakery is geared towards a big long snaking line of people. Unfortunately, we arrived close to closing so they only had a few cookies left. Though, they did have their pre-packaged cookies for $13. I picked up a Crazy Cookie (3.5/5) - which has marshmallows, cornflakes, and chocolate chips. Crisp outside, a mix of crunchy and chewy inside because of the marshmallow and cornflakes with the creaminess of the chocolate chips. This is my first time trying their pastries and it was pretty decent! I came on a Saturday around 10am and there was a short line; waited about 10 minutes to order. I tried their cinnamon bun, cardamom lattice bun, and coffee twist pastries. The cinnamon bun was pretty good and surprising not too sweet, however, the cinnamon bun would've tasted better if it came warm. I'd rate it 4/5. I thoroughly enjoyed the cardamom lattice bun, it came with cardamom cream in the center of the bun. I'd rate it 5/5. I came here very excited to try some of their baked goods. I got a cherry brioche and the muffuletta sandwich. The cherry brioche, no exaggeration, was AMAZING. It was made exactly the way I like it, like in an Asian style, which means that it was not too sweet or had any artificial sweeteners. I took a picture of it halfway through because I honestly thought it was one of the most amazing baked goods I've had it in a while and I wanted to take a picture and post my review for the public. The cream custard in the brioche is not sweet and has a very subtle flavor, it's a full cream flavor that's not heavy or greasy. The brioche was topped with half a cherry, which I thought was really cute and it was very sweet and balanced nicely with the cream. Even the end of the bite, which was mostly the bread and had no cream or the cherry jam, had taste on its own. The bread tasted a bit like an Italian bread, it had an earthiness and crisp that I found amazing. Jane the bakery is no joke, they make their baked goods off from whole natural ingredients, they don't skip corners. I can tell from the cherry brioche. They are the real deal. The muffuletta sandwich was actually really salty to me, too salty to eat. And I'm saying this as someone who loves really salty food. But I asked if I could return and get a refund for it and they were like no problem and recommended the prosciutto sandwich, which I definitely will try next time. read more

I had to go get four viales of blood drawn at Kaiser, which is two blocks away from here on Divisadero and Geary. I was fasting beforehand, so I went here to grab a bite. The sandwiches here are always delicious. I've had them before during work training, as well as some of their baked goods, which I also really liked. I got the turkey sandwich and it was not that good it was sitting in the case pre made and the bread was soggy. The turkey was dry, I only ate half of the sandwich and I couldn't bear to eat the rest. I wanted to get cookies for my dentist and the staff at my dentist office because I was celebrating my birthday week. I ate first outside so I wouldn't pass out, when I have food in my stomach I can think of what I want to get. I went back into the store because there is no where to sit its grab and go. I wanted to get two dozen cookies but the guy said I couldn't I was confused because it is a big bakery behind the counter and case. I said well can I have a dozen yes you can. I said I want a mix of all the flavors. The cookies are big like the size of your hand! I also got coffee, the cost of what you get is relatively good for the size but not the quantity. I wish that they had table to sit down and eat comfortably and not feel rushed. I complained about the quality of the sandwich and I got refunded the transaction. My dentist and staff enjoyed the cookies, said that they were so good. One of the staff members was like omg I am getting a sugar rush, I said good for you, enjoy! In search of a quick breakfast bite, this place absolutely delivered! Wednesday morning, things were busy, people were popping in and out, but we were never kept waiting. We picked up the chocolate croissant, a citrus morning bun, and a small cup of black coffee. The croissant was wonderfully flaky, with just the right amount of chocolate. The citrus morning bun wasn't quite as citrusy as I was expecting, but it paired very well with my black coffee. Outside the bakery, there are a few outdoor stalls that we were able to take our time and enjoy our treats.
