    Ham & cheese croissant
    Esther L.

Arsicault Bakery is soooo worth lining up for I was the first to go and it was so yummy and fresh! I love a good croissant and I got their ham & cheese croissant which was so good. It was so interesting because the ham & cheese are INSIDE the croissant (and I thought it would be a ham & cheese croissant sandwich) and the Kouign Amann is super good too (those 2 are my recommendations !!) If you're ever in the area, make sure to visit Arsicault Bakery (and line up before it opens) !!!

*** Takeout Only *** Arsicault Bakery is a popular bakery shop in San Francisco and Bon Appetit named Arsicault Bakery 'Bakery of the Year' in 2016 ( https://www.bonappetit.com/story/best-bakeries-2016 ). Currently Arsicault Bakery has three locations: Inner Richmond (the flagship location), Civic Center, and Mission Bay. There is a plan to open another location in Palo Alto in fall 2026. [Parking]: Street metered parking only, but there are plenty of 30-minute metered parking spots in this part of the neighborhood. [Ordering]: There was no line when our party arrived at 2:30 PM on Saturday, but the shop had run out of everything except chocolate croissants and plain croissants. [Menu]: Yelp's top highlighted items are Chocolate Almond Croissant, Kouign-Amann, and Morning Bun. *** Chocolate Croissant ($6.00): Great croissant with ultra flaky texture, but I wish it had a bit more chocolate filling. *** Personally this is one of those "good but not that good" croissant shops. It would have been nice to try their almond croissant and few other baked goods, but I had to make this visit count with whatever croissants they had left. This is one of those spots for visitors to come as soon as the shop opens if you want to secure some of their most popular and desirable baked goods.

Had to come check out one of SF's top bakeries and I enjoyed it. Fresh pastries and good sizes. Came on a Saturday around 9:15 am and there was a short line to order. Lots of pasties were still available and line moved pretty fast so we were in and out in about 10 mins! Service was friendly and quick. -Plain croissant (4/5): simple yet tasty! Flaky, moist and slightly crispy -Chocolate croissant (3/5): I'm not the biggest fan of chocolate filling but it was strong and not overly sweet -Kouign amann (4.5/5): crunchy yet soft and moist, nice carmalized exterior, good amount of sweetness -Morning bun (4/5): soft with a slight crunch, covered in lots of sugar and cinnamon so a bit too sweet

Heard they're one of the top bakeries in SF and I enjoyed it! Came 9:15AM in the morning on a Saturday and there was a slight line out front but it moved efficiently, we were in and out in 10 minutes! There's no seating so we took our goods to go. 4 pastries came to about $22 total Kouign Amann (4.5/5): crispy and flaky, the right amount of sweetness! Morning Bun (4/5): a little sweet but soft and yummy! Plain Croissant (4/5): flaky and slightly crispy, could've been crispier but still fresh and delicious Chocolate Croissant (3/5): preferred the plain croissant. Chocolate wasn't overly sweet, even though there was a lot of chocolate

I heard so much about Arsicault and was told I MUST visit here when I am in SF. I was told they have the best kouign-amann which is my fav of viennoiserie of all time. For someone to stake their cred on the line and vouched for the kougn-amann, I am def up for this challenge. We took a Waymo which is the coolest car I ever rode in. This bakery location was pretty far from the hotel, but since our friend said this is the one she often visited, so off we went. The surrounding area for this location was nice and seemed to be in a good neighborhood. Since there is no seating (which is a pity), I bought a cup of hot chocolate from next door and we sat at their seatings. Hence no rating of ambiance here. SERVICE 5/5 I have to say the staff here worked really fast despite the line. They were very efficient but not lacking the basic friendly vibe. FOOD 4/5 Kouign-amann 3/5 Sadly, my friend's cred was gone. It was just an ok kouign-amann. There was not enough sugar and I def have better kouign-amann elsewhere. Mademoiselle Louise in Houston had one of the top kouign-amann I had evereaten. It was in year 2020 and I could still remember the wonderful kouign-amann there. Savory scone 5/5 Luckily I got to try the savory scone which was very flavorful and scrumptious. Highly recommended. Our friend took a bite of the kouign-amann she bought to bring home, she commented yea it was not very good, tasted diff. My brother had a butter croissant, and commented it was flakey and pillow-y at the same time. However, it lacked of a good butttet taste. Perhaps that was the reason the kouign-amann I had paled in comparison to those I ever had, which were usually made of French butter like Elle & Vrie and other gourmet butter. I would still recommend this bakery and the best time I would get the savory scone.

Arsicault is by far the most common answer I get when I ask people living in SF about where to find the best croissants. While I was visiting friends in the Inner Richmond, we were tempted by the aroma of butter and decided to brave the line to try one of these legendary pastries. While the line stretched halfway down the block, it moved quickly, and we only waited in line for about 15 minutes. The ordering process was efficient, and we were able to pick up our pastries in a couple of minutes once we were at the front of the line. The menu is short and simple, and I decided to try the almond croissant, one of the classics. I enjoyed my croissant when I got home, and immediately noticed how decadent and heavy the pastry was (I recommend splitting it). The outside was very toasted - almost bitter - and the inside of the pastry tasted slightly underbaked. On a more positive note, I appreciated how the almond filling tasted purely of freshly-ground almonds; simple and naturally sweet without the overpowering almond-extract flavor. While this first experience did not quite live up to my expectations, I would still come back to try the other pastries.

One of the best bakeries in SF, and the country, for a reason! The Kouign Amann is my favorite, but the Almond Croissant is also incredible. The Ham and Cheese Croissant was also surprisingly delicious and craveable! All the other pastries we tried were also consistently delicious and flaky.

Not a hype. It is a MUST TRY! The wait in line was worth it. I have never had an almond croissant melt in my mouth. It was super flaky, crispy, buttery, moist, and perfectly how dense a croissant should be. The filling was still oozing out a little. It is literally one of the BEST almond croissants I have had even compared to the East Coast "French bakery". What I like about this place is, it is a bake to hands as in farm to fork freshly made product. Since, I waited in line, I also had time to do girl math: I might as well "save money" and buy another one since I am not from the area. The chocolate croissant is beautiful. It looks great as well.

I had a chocolate chip cookie ($4.50) from here, it was absolutely delicious-perfectly baked and no burnt bottom. Unfortunately, consistency is an issue. I came back yesterday and bought another chocolate chip cookie, only to find the bottom completely burnt. Hoping it was just a fluke, I stopped in again today during my lunch break. I politely mentioned to the staff that my cookie yesterday was burnt on the bottom and wanted to make sure I got a good one today. Instead of an apology or any real acknowledgment, the staff just started flipping cookies over on the display tray. Right in front of me, they ended up pulling two burnt cookies off the tripod display because they realized they were scorched. What really disappointed me was the total lack of customer service. When a returning customer points out a quality issue, and you literally confirm it by pulling more burnt product off the floor right in front of them, the bare minimum you can do is apologize or offer a discount on the replacement. Instead, I got silence. The lack of care let me know everything need to kre food might have potential, but the servic. - sured I won't be back.

I give Ariscault a solid 4.5 but rounded up to 5 stars. This is my second visit but I waited until after lunch to get pastries. To get the best choice of pastries it is best to go before noon before some of the most popular items sell out. I was able to get Almond Croissants, Morning Bun, Kouign Amann and a chocolate chip cookie. My wife said they make the best almond croissant, not overly sweet and nice flakey croissant, she liked the Kouign Amann but she said B Patissere makes the best. The chocolate chip was big, soft in the middle with a slight crunchy edge, the cookie had a good sweetness balance. I was lucky enough to go at a time when there were a few porn parking spots. The parking can be a challenge but it is worth the hunt for parking to get some tasty pastries.

    Ham & Cheese Croissant

I stopped by Arsicault near the end of their day, and luckily there were still enough pastries around to try. They ran out of their kouign amann for the day which is what I wanted to try, but I was still able to get a taste of their ham and cheese croissant. The croissant was perfectly flaky on the outside with buttery layers, and there was a svaory, melty filling of cheese on the inside that made it satisfying. My friend ordered a few of their almond croissants for him and his family, and they all enjoyed it! They said the croissants were rich and flaky. I love the fresh pastries that are clearly made with care!

Very delicious and definitely not overhyped! Now I understand why so many people call this the best croissant in San Francisco. I tried the chocolate croissant, and it completely lived up to the hype. The outside was perfectly flaky and buttery, while the inside was light, airy, and filled with chocolate that wasn't overly sweet. Every bite had the perfect balance of crisp layers and soft, and it has the best textures I've ever had. There was a line when I arrived, but it moved fast, so I only waited around 20 minutes, which was totally worth it. Overall, 10/10 experience! I would absolutely come back and happily wait in line again!

Finally went to this bakery! The line is always out the door on weekends but honestly we were probably in line for only 15-20 mins. The menu is short & sweet. We got ham & cheese croissants after our bike ride. This is a classic SF spot if you finish a big bike ride, heading to Golden Gate Park or going to the Clement Street farmers market. Ambiance is cute and small. Next door you can order coffee. Would recommend!

Ask the Community - Arsicault Bakery

Can we call in to place order in advance or online?

For a dozen, I usually call one day ahead, and for a whole quiche, I place my order 72 hours in advance. I haven’t placed advance orders for small quantities. So, the answer is probably no. Give them a call—someone might pick up the phone.

    Is there parking?

No parking garage or anything. They have a meter lol

Do they have eggless options? I am okay with dairy but not egg

Hi Pooja! We do have a few options: kouign amann morning bun…

How do we find out ingredients to check for allergens?

Call in advance or visit the location and ask. There is no nutritional information posted at their locations. They may have something upon request.

I'm going on a Saturday. Planning to go right when the store open. Will there be a line already build up before they open?

Probably, I have never been there when there is not a line. The line moves fast so don’t be discouraged!

    Do you deliver?

I don't think so. They're a small family-owned bakery so they just usually stay at their location.

    Any gluten free pastries? 🤞🤞🤞

Financier is technically gluten free but it isn't a gluten free facility so that's a personal decision.

Do you have ginger cookies? If so, I like to reserve some. Thank you.

    Sure no problem. How many?

We'll be taking some back to Sacramento for 4 different families, does anyone know if they'll box it up or are they all put in paper bags?

Yes, they have boxes at Arsicault.

What's the line like on a weekend morning at the McAllister location?

Line is half a block long but moves very fast. You will get your croissant in10 minutes

I'm driving from the east bay. Which location has the most inventory?

The one on McAllister have a bigger menu and will be closer to you coming from the East Bay. But just be careful parking around there. Maybe have a friend drop you off while you go inside.

    Do they have vegan options?

    Everything has butter in it.

Are they open on Thanksgiving Day?

Hi Tiffany. We’ll be closed at both locations on Thanksgiving day. Happy Thanksgiving and we hope to see you soon!

Is the morning bun a croissant?

Its like a cross between a cinnamon bun and croissant, glittering with sugar, orange zest essence. They do an amazing one!

Is arsicult open? Or completely closed until further notice?

    They are closed currently

    Is it open during quarantine?

I don't know. I don't live in San Francisco I was just visiting. Try calling

Do they do delivery during the COViD pandemic?

They are closed due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Are they open on MLK day?

    I believe so

Are there any gluten free options?

No, I had asked them before and they said everything they have has gluten.

I went around 12:15pm on a Saturday, and the line was short (comparatively) and moved quickly! Pro tip: keep up with their instagram stories because they occasionally post live updates about the line/supply! It only took around 15 minutes to reach the front. Another tip: decide what you're going to get & some back up options (in case they sell out of your first choice options) so you don't hold up the line deciding at the cashier! I think that is the main reason the line sometimes moves slow. Because tbh once you put in your order, it takes like 3 minutes for them to pack it up. I tried 3 pastries from the July menu: Skirt Steak Croissant, Madame Lorraine, and Peach & Sweet Corn Cruffin. I also wanted to try the Bruschetta Danish, but they were sold out of that one. I was definitely most excited about the Skirt Steak from the beginning, and it was indeed my favorite! The croissant was so flakey buttery crispy, it was actually perfection. I love the chipotle aioli and arugula pesto sauces. Wow one of the best pastries I've ever eaten. The madame lorraine was my second favorite. I'm biased though because I love salty a lot more than sweet. The pork was so tasty in this one, and I really liked the parmesan toppings. I don't even like runny egg yolks, but it worked so well with this pastry. The peach & sweet corn cruffin was a little too sweet for me but the peach and corn flavors worked sooo surprisingly well. I NEED to come back to try their other pastries wow. It is 100% worth the hype.

The pastries didn't deliver…read more The Strawberry Vanilla Danish had fresh strawberries that were more raw instead of cooked down, and the bottom of the pastry itself was underbaked (see photos). The Peach Corn Cruffin was even more disappointing, it was more like apple than peach, the fruit was still crisp and undercooked. Crisp peach? And the cream had a sour note that threw the whole pastry off. The Bruschetta Danish was the standout of the box. The Plum Vanilla Almond Twice-Baked Croissant oddly reminded me more of a PB&J than an almond-plum pastry. The pastries definitely photograph better than they eat. I really wanted to love this place, but I don't think the hype matches the experience. Are there good pastries here? Probably... um, sure. (?) But are those worth the wait and the reputation? Not in my opinion. Sometimes the emperor really has no clothes.

I've always wanted to try this place since I see a line every time I walked by. There's a lot of foot and car traffic. It's definitely a busy area so expect to park in one of the nearby residential areas or be extremely and walk/bike/bus here! Upon stepping into the tiny shop, I was enveloped in the sweet smell of chocolate chip cookies. It was tempting to put that in my bag, but I stuck with my game plan. They do self serve for all the baked goods and drinks except the pizza and focaccia. You tell the cashier what you grabbed. There's self serve complimentary water on the side too. Got a pecan swirl, one of each square focaccia flavors, and a half pizza (hot). The pizza flavor of the day was triple mushroom with sesame ginger garlic vinaigrette and mozzarella. It was 10/10 delicious!! Do note that they don't heat up the focaccia. Personally, after tasting everything, I'd say the pizza is more worth it than the focaccia "pizzas". The pecan roll was quite addicting too. You can also skip the line if you want to order online on their website and schedule a pick up time, but my gift card didn't work so I just waited in line.

I have tried giving this place a chance, and as much as the desserts are good the customer service…read morewas really awful today. Typically when the owners are there, it runs smooth. However, with 2026 economy, I don't make the income I used to, so I like to treat myself. I don't go as often, so going for a yummy patisserie and a coffee drink, is definitely a treat! Always leaving them a cash tip. I haven't been in for a while, as I'm budgeting and the owners are at their other location in Concord mostly now. Their hours have reduced, 8-1 thurs -Sat and if you get there at noon, be aware they start breaking things down because they close at 1:00. Getting there at noon on a Saturday with only two customers in the shop, sitting and eating. Nobody in line, I am getting to go a latte drink and a cinnamon morning bun. I waited over 10 mins for my coffee drink. The person who usually does the drinks wasn't there, I guess was in the back so someone else was doing it. She heard and knew what I ordered, and never once told me I have a couple of drinks ahead of yours. It's going to be a wait. Apparently there were drink orders that were never told ahead of time to make and they were really behind. Only two customers in the whole shop. I have somewhere to go later, so I just ask, "hey, I didn't realize it was going to take this long."Between the music playing in my EarPod and the espresso machine I didn't hear her say to the cashier to give me my money back. I wasn't wanting my money back. I wanted my coffee drink with my pastry and the no communication. Like, "yours is next, or sorry for the wait. Nothing. Instead I see her going slower and told the customer before me to come back and gave her my espresso shot that was to go in my drink! Very passive aggressive and a power move, unhappy miserable, angry, person. Whoever this person is really rude, and has no business being around people. They need to keep the usual barista up front with long dark hair, who is always bubbly friendly, efficient and has impeccable customer service. The one today was like "I'd rather give you your money back and get the fk out" Rather than work on my customer service. I just think with all that's going on in the world, being kind, compassionate, communicative and accountability goes a long way. You never know what someone is going through. Maybe me coming in for a $5 morning bun and an $6 oat milk latte with my fixed income from being on a medical leave, is what makes my day. I wish for the angry barista, would go through sensitive and diversity customer service training. Because it really felt like she has some homophobia/bigotry towards me.
