I had to go get four viales of blood drawn at Kaiser, which is two blocks away from here on Divisadero and Geary. I was fasting beforehand, so I went here to grab a bite. The sandwiches here are always delicious. I've had them before during work training, as well as some of their baked goods, which I also really liked. I got the turkey sandwich and it was not that good it was sitting in the case pre made and the bread was soggy. The turkey was dry, I only ate half of the sandwich and I couldn't bear to eat the rest. I wanted to get cookies for my dentist and the staff at my dentist office because I was celebrating my birthday week. I ate first outside so I wouldn't pass out, when I have food in my stomach I can think of what I want to get. I went back into the store because there is no where to sit its grab and go. I wanted to get two dozen cookies but the guy said I couldn't I was confused because it is a big bakery behind the counter and case. I said well can I have a dozen yes you can. I said I want a mix of all the flavors. The cookies are big like the size of your hand! I also got coffee, the cost of what you get is relatively good for the size but not the quantity. I wish that they had table to sit down and eat comfortably and not feel rushed. I complained about the quality of the sandwich and I got refunded the transaction. My dentist and staff enjoyed the cookies, said that they were so good. One of the staff members was like omg I am getting a sugar rush, I said good for you, enjoy! I am the one being tortured in the chair. I wasn't sure what they would like and how many people work in the office, but it was the afternoon. read more

A delicious local bakery! It wouldn't be my favourite in the city, but I think it's absolutely worth a mention if you're talking about San Francisco's bakery scene. In search of a quick breakfast bite, this place absolutely delivered! Wednesday morning, things were busy, people were popping in and out, but we were never kept waiting. We picked up the chocolate croissant, a citrus morning bun, and a small cup of black coffee. The croissant was wonderfully flaky, with just the right amount of chocolate. The citrus morning bun wasn't quite as citrusy as I was expecting, but it paired very well with my black coffee. Outside the bakery, there are a few outdoor stalls that we were able to take our time and enjoy our treats. Been here previously for their wonderful breads and pastries but first time having their homemade pies, this one is a classic apple pie for Thanksgiving. It is easily one of the top 5 apple pies I have ever eaten, and I've eaten apple pies all over the country. Very similar to an open kitchen, you could literally see the bakers working through their dough and cutting the fruits!! Wish I had a video for the same - will do when I go in next. Good but not great. The sourdough bread had huge holes in it so when you sliced it, it fell apart. And it did not taste like sourdough although the light texture felt like sourdough. Also had the coffee espresso twist which was ok, but nothing special. The mushroom cheese flaky square was good. Most individual items were in the $6.25 range and the sourdough bread was $10/loaf. Over the Christmas holidays, had a chocolate marbled loaf cake which was dynamite which prompted me to try out this bakery, but a bit disappointed with quality and price today. read more

Unpretentious bakery with many different pastries and breads to try. My group has the cheese flatbread, plain croissant, captain cookie (a cookie made from Captain crunch cereal, fun!) and raspberry brioche. Also had a matcha latte. Enjoyed everything, only thing was the raspberry brioche only had raspberry in the very middle and I would have preferred that flavor through out. The pastry cream and bread was done perfectly though. Flatbread was hearty and flavorful, and the croissant was a thing of beauty. Can't believe that Jane The Bakery is over 6 years-old now. This is an update. There is way more choices, and it's as busy as ever. I came early in the morning, and got a parking spot as a car pulled out. My favorite now is the mushroom Gruyère tart. For a while I loved the apple galette, but now it's the mushroom Gruyère tarts. My husband loves the pain aux raisins and the ham and cheese croissant. The one that I didn't like was the petite red velvet cake. Too dense for me. read more

I was there watching for five minutes, and I see the workers cleaning the counters with their gloves on wiping it and serving the customers by hand picking up the pastries not using a Tung. I was trying to kill time before queuing up at Aji Kiji, and always wanted to stop by this bakery, since I always pass by it when I drive through Geary to downtown. I got the Levain bread loaf, sausage croissant, and chocolate croissant. The Levain bread was great, high quality, and was a smaller loaf than Tartine (well, everything is, right?), but also only $10. It's still quite large too, and so I've enjoyed the bread for breakfast for several days now. I would get that again, if in the area and wanting a loaf. The Sausage croissant was recommended on Yelp, and my husband enjoyed it. I thought it tasted decent, but I didn't find it anything special. The chocolate croissant, I thought was pretty good, but nothing amazingly special (like how I feel eating an Arsicault pastry). Both croissants were $6 each, and although they were big, I don't know....seems like a premium considering they weren't amazing in my opinion. There was quite a bit of a line, kind of wish there were more people that were able to take your order and check you out. There was only one guy taking your order and packaging, then another cashier doing all the ringing up. It seemed to take a little bit more time for them to communicate to each other what you had ordered, vs. just having one employee work with you from beginning to end (I only think about this because I used to work at a bakery, and that's what we did, and it seemed very efficient). Everything was good here, nothing super amazing. I guess if you were really craving or needing something specific and you were in the area, I'd go here. But otherwise, pass. read more

I've heard great things about this bakery and I was finally in the area to give it a try. There is parking in the front but it's extremely limited. I recommend that you try for street parking instead of the lot outside. The line on Friday morning was not bad. Only three people ahead of me. I got the crazy cookie and mushroom scone to try. I really enjoyed the texture and flavor of the cookie. It was big and flat and not too sweet. I love scones but this is my first scone that I did not enjoy. I came for a quick bite- banana bread and almond croissant. Both were amazing, banana bread wasn't too sweet and the croissant was flaky with a rich almond paste. Came here on a weekday afternoon around 2pm. Most items were sold out. Bought a dark chocolate bundt cake slice , plain croissant and a lemon bread loaf to try. The other two items were pretty good. It tasted like what it should taste like but the lemon loaf was DRY AF. Also the best buy date on the back was the next day. Why are they selling items with a best by date of one day ??? Anyway I was really disappointed in the lemon loaf. It was probably the worst most driest one I've ever had. The frozen one by Sara Lee taste better than this one. I wouldn't make a trip to this place but if you're close by and there isn't a long line , it might be worth it to grab a few items but you should know ahead of time which items to try and read the reviews beforehand. read more

This place is a neighborhood institution. Amazing pastries and breads and just an overall fantastic business here. I've deducted one star for one thing and one thing only- Consistent OUT OF STOCKS. My only gripe is their inventory on a specific baked good. On the last 4 consecutive visits for an Almond Croissant the person behind the counter informed me they sold out while they have various other goods that don't sell with nearly the same velocity. I'm no rocket scientist, but one might piece together that if they're consistently selling out an item, it means they're not ordering or making enough of the product. I worked in food and beverage for a long time, on the service and manufacturing/distribution side. When a customer goes to a store searching for a specific item and it's out of stock, the customer rarely switches. Out of stocks just costs the retailer LOST SALES. So allow me to assist team Jane... If you make 3 dozen Almond Croissants, and you sell out, the next day make 4 dozen. If you sell out again, make 5 dozen. If at the 5th dozen you have leftovers, go down to 4.5 dozen. There's your new inventory par! Give it a try sometime, you'll have less annoyed customers that have to shlep to B's or Ariscault for a decent Almond Croissant. read more

Tons of choices here Croissants, Sandwiches, Breads, Buns, Brioche, Cookies, Pies, Rolls, Cake Slices, Scones, Muffins, Turnovers, Tarts, Babka, Pan Aux, etc. For my shop I opted for a hearty bread, though I often get whole loaves at Boudins I wanted to check out Jane. In this case I was not disappointed it was a wonderful crusty bread. As for their other baked goods, Jane had a wonderfully indulgent range of items in the case, and the space was clean, comfortable with an attentive staff. That said, if feeding a crowd some of the items are probably better made at home due to the ease of prep and cost, such as Cookies, Lemon Pies, Muffins, Quiches, Sandwiches, but if it is a one off Jane is a valid option. read more

This is one of my favorite bakeries in SF. The wait was about 5 minutes and I got the raspberry brioche. I love the texture of this pastry as it's the cookie crumbles on the top and the pastry bread are filling and tasty. There's also a custard filling in the middle with the raspberry pieces, providing a sweeter and more tart flavor. I just wish there was more custard on this pastry! I really liked this bakery. In fact, the chicken banh mi sandwhich was downright delicious. The other items I bought were all very good, but not exceptional in a city where we're spoiled with great bakery options. I tried: Banana bread (excellent, my favorite of the pastries) Raspberry danish looking thing (good, needed more cream and less bread) 4-cheese Sourdough (good, but a bit pricey for the size) Monkey Bread (looked very pretty but was stale & dry. A hard pass) Hazelnut Nutella pastry (just ok, dough was too dry, another pass for me) Chicken Banh Mi Sando (this is where its at!! Surprise hit of all the stuff we tried!) Ooooh and ahhhh. Look at their cookies! They got some interesting flavors + they are HUGE. We ordered: Chocolate chip toffee cookie - we tried to reheat it (15 seconds) since I accidentally put this in the fridge, but the cookie was a bit "hard to chew" because of the toffee. Maybe we shouldn't have reheated this one. It's still a good cookie though, I just personally prefer soft and chewy. Bee sting brioche - we ate this immediately. There was actual honey comb in this! Sadly, I shared the brioche, and my bf got the lucky bite of the honey comb. I'd highly recommend this one! Breadstick - I forgot the exact name, but this tasted so good even after reheating it with airfryer. Spinach puff pastry (?) - this one was average after reheating it. Note: There were lots of empty spaces on the shelf, so they probably ran out of their most popular goodies in the morning. We arrived there around 12ish. read more

First the cons: Where is this place and why is the parking lot so funky to get in and out of? That's all. Now all the wonderful pros: Fresh baked goods - so many to choose from. so so many. oatmeal cookie with white chocolate chips : texture of the oatmeal, buttery cookie, and creamy smooth white chocolate chips. wow. plain kouign amann and caramel kouign amann : stunning. I should simplify my life and just buy a dozen of everything. Next time. They also serve an array of equally tasty looking sandwiches and salads ready to go, and they also have caffeine drinks that are a must for me in the morning. The thing is I found myself there in the morning, was a little sleepy, and completely disoriented by sights and sounds of this place. It's a mistake I won't make next time. Overall, I'm looking forward to trying out more of what Jane The Bakery has to offer. read more

Jane, you have my heart. I love the aroma of bread. I've walked by this bakery a few times and when I finally stopped to get a loaf and other pastries, it did not disappoint. This is one of my favorite bakeries in the city. It is located near a park and a spa, two very important options for self care but also, getting fresh bread is a form of self-care, right?! The bakery is fairly large with long lines but it goes by pretty quick due to the staff! You witness the bread making behind the counter-it is quite mesmerizing being able to see the dough before it is cooked and the non-stop bread smell-I am in love. The staff are friendly and give good recommendations if you are not sure of which pastries to get. My go to is either the chocolate croissant or pain au raisin- the flakiness & sweetness goes well with the coffee. As for their bread loaves-- all are really good but really love the Sourdough and Ca Levain, oh and on wkds they have a chocolate sourdough which I got half of the loaf and it was amazing. Anytime my spouse and I have visitors from out of town, we always bring them here but also, whenever I go back home to Southern CA, I bring a loaf of bread home. read more

When Jane first opened I'd say it was 5 stars. In recent months it has just gone downhill. I drive from the Peninsula just to come here and by 9 AM, I can never get an almond croissant, the raisin bread which we love was out of stock yesterday and they said it would come in in a day or two. Aren't all the breads made fresh there? The crazy cookies which I buy my kids were stale yesterday so obviously not made that morning. And for the prices that one pays, I just think their quality has really deteriorated. Sad read more
