Jane made me feel like myself again. I've been coming to see Jane for nearly 10 years. She's far away from where I live now but I don't trust anyone else with my hair. A little over a year ago, I was diagnosed with cancer. During the chemo I lost about 70% - 80% of my hair and I had some very obvious bald spots. When I told Jane, she offered to style a wig for me. When I came to see her, she had made me soup, rice and mashed potatoes. It was so sweet. My hair has started to grow back in but the chemo drugs made the new hair extremely curly and stick out from my longer straight strands like a sore thumb, almost like a mullet. When I looked in the mirror, I didn't recognize myself. Yesterday, I came to see Jane to get a keratin treatment to straighten my hair. As Jane was working on my hair, my old self was slowly appearing in the mirror again before me. I finally feel like myself again. This is me, who I was before the cancer. I haven't had a haircut in over a year because of COVID. As things started to open up, I did EXTENSIVE research on who to go to, and came across Jane! I usually just get my haircuts at a great clips or super cuts but I decided to go to an actual salon for once. Not only that, but I drove 45 minutes from San Francisco to Palo Alto for my appointment, and I'm glad I did! I was able to easily book my appointment online and she had lots of options throughout the day which is important to me as I'm a student with classes every day at varying times. Upon getting there, I watched Jane thoroughly sanitize her whole work area. She was also the only one working in the salon at the time so it was nice that there weren't other people around! She cut off around 4 inches of my hair and my hair turned out PERFECT! I will 100% be going to Jane for all of my haircuts as long as I live here! If you are used to quality cut and color - don't come to see Jane Yoon. I made the mistake of scheduling an appointment here when I couldn't get in with my regular hair dresser. I thought - oh greater availability/ open appointment slots and cheaper prices - sounds great ... big mistake. There's a reason other people are booked out weeks ahead of time while she is not. I should have known it wasn't going to go well from the start and jumped out of her chair before the dye hit my scalp. So many clues this wasn't going to be a high quality outcome: - The dye was brought out without showing me any reference to the color she was choosing. Every salon I've been to has shown me a color swatch and explained how that color would translate onto my hair. - When the dye was brought out, Jane said "Oh, I need to change the dye - I couldn't see what your hair color is because the sun was in my eyes." Shouldn't you make sure you're taking your time to see the hair without the sun in your eyes before you choose the hair dye? - The dye was applied haphazardly and several spots especially at the nape of my neck were completely dry/ void of dye. She also only placed the dye on the top 2/3 of my hair in general - leaving the rest of the 1/3 ends totally dry. (Mind you the dye was applied after she already pre cut several inches of my hair) When I asked her why there were spots on my head that did not have dye - Jane replied, "Oh because I'm going to cut it off." I showed her entire strands/ chunks of hair at the nape of neck that didn't have any dye on them. "You're going to cut this entire region off??" I asked. She looked surprised that she missed these areas and said, "Oh, it's okay. We'll just leave your hair wet after I shampoo and it will turn out fine." Yeah, that's not how hair dye works but whatever it was too late at this point. - She was working on another customer at the same time during my appointment. She started cutting my hair and the timer went off for the other customer's hair color to be rinsed off. Jane replied, "Oh, can you wait 5 minutes before I rinse? I need to cut this hair." A 5 minute hair cut is exactly what I got. It's super uneven and choppy. (Another point - gloves were not changed between dying my hair and simultaneously working on the other girl. She just walked back and forth doing our dye of different colors, wearing the same gloves. Not very Covid conscious). At the end of the appointment, I had a uneven 5 minute hair cut and hot roots with different shades of brassy orange brown all over my head. I explained that I didn't like my hair: the color was orange, my roots were lighter than my ends, my grey was not covered, and the color was uneven. She kept arguing that the grey was covered and that the color was not orange and it was even. I told her that I have eyes and that arguing with me wouldn't change what I was seeing. She offered to have me come in next week to have it fixed but not without continuing to argue with me about why it wasn't her fault my hair turned out this way. After arguing back and forth about what I saw in the mirror and her missing the mark in communicating how my hair would turn out, I simply stated, "Well, I don't like it." What more is there to say? She threw the mirror I was holding onto her work station and told me to "just go home." - and so I did - and I will NOT be back. If you're looking for someone that can fit you in last minute and is on the cheaper side and can somewhat get the job done - she's your girl. If you're looking for a good job - go elsewhere. --- UPDATE: Got my hair fixed at a salon with more yelp cred in downtown Mountain View. Two hair dressers confirmed my hair was not done to anyone's standards. "Girl, that woman gave you a tail. Your hair cut is totally uneven." "You just got your hair dyed at a salon? Girl, someone gave you hot roots." OMG... stay away from this place read more

When I was a Stanford student, I picked Jane because it was convenient and affordable. Now I travel 40 miles by train to see her because she's the best! I haven't gotten a haircut in 2 years because of the quarantine. My hair was so damaged. It had grown below my butt and was completely fried. It felt like touching straw and the split ends had been creeping up the lengths. I thought my hair was ruined and I needed a bob. The only person I trust to save my hair is Jane. I was worried that her salon might not have survived the quarantine. But when I called, I was happily surprised that she's still here! I don't know how she did it but she worked her magic and saved my hair. It's feels absolutely soft and is so shiny as if nothing ever happened. The best part is that she managed to keep my hair pretty long too. I'm so glad she's still here! When I was a Stanford student, I tried out several different hair salons in Palo Alto and Mountain View but none were able to cut my hair in a way I liked until I met Jane. I was looking for something I could afford on a student budget. It's almost impossible to find a decent hair stylist in California that charges less than $100 for just medium length hair. But Jane only charges $45 even though my hair is very very long. She was also conveniently located because I didn't have a car but I could take the Stanford shuttle for free to see her. She didn't have a lot of reviews at the time but the ones she had were glowing. Jane is an absolute hidden gem. She really took the time to listen to me and get it right exactly the way I wanted. She makes my hair look so healthy and beautiful. She's the only one I trust with my hair now. I moved away but I still travel by train to get my hair done by her because she is absolutely amazing and over the years, I'd say we also developed a friendship. It's fun to talk to her too! Last time, I came to see her, she told me the pandemic has been pretty hard on the salon and students don't really come to see her anymore. I had been holding off on a haircut due to Covid and being immunocompromised, so it had been almost two years since my last haircut. I had Jane cut my hair because it was cheap ($35) and she was recommended on the app Nextdoor to be really good. Jane was nice.. but did an AWFUL job. I was too desperate and will never be going to a cheap 'hairstylist' ever again. Please see photos for reference. For some reason Jane cut only one side of my head? Actually, just a chunk because the back and other side has no layers like the one section. Totally uneven and completely ruined my headshots that I planned afterwards. Also when I put my hair in a ponytail there's a very long section of hair?? Just wow. How does this happen?? Truly shocked seeing how there's so many raving reviews.. please see photos for reference of the kind of work Jane does. All these reviews must be family friends.
