Just had my Botox/fillers done here by the fabulous Dr. V and as always, I love the results. She's like a genius when it comes to knowing exactly where to place the product and always starts with the bare minimum because she'll never make you look over done. I love that about her, she's very conservative at first, and always is willing to do more at a later time if you feel the results are less than what you expected. Her staff is awesome, too. I've been there so many times, and I can say they're all very smart and helpful, super friendly, and always available for me when I have questions or problems. In one desperate scenario, the nurse actually called me from her own cell phone well after office hours to make sure I had received an antibiotic that was ESSENTIAL for me, after having much trouble with my pharmacy and insurance authorization or something... She even followed up with me that night to make sure I got it OK. Now that's a well-oiled machine....incredible talented doctor with a caring, dedicated staff. I'm never disappointed by visits with the doc. And love the duel locations....my work is in town so I go to westwood usually, but I have family and friends in malibu so it works out perfectly for me! read more

I wasn't happy with the oiliness on my skin so I found Dr. Vafaie on yelp, and wow! Her office is so clean and such a nice location. I made an appointment and went in for Oily skin. Dr. Vafaie told me about one of her washes and gave me some over the counter medications to start. I have a follow up appointment with her in two weeks, and I'm happy to say that my experience at her office was easy and helpful. I won't 1-star this review because Dr. Vafaie didn't royally screw up an immigration application the doctor I 1-starred did. But that's about it. I had a mark on my arm that had appeared about 6 years ago. What it was, I had no idea, but I just ignored it. Then when I moved to California I noticed it getting darker and since my dad (who's a doctor) was concerned about that, I thought it would be appropriate to check out in July. I had seen positive reviews for Dr. James Sternberg (who now is solely in Malibu, I guess) and called his office. He was going to be in Malibu on the day I had off from work, but they said that Dr. Vafaie could see me then. I had no physician loyalty so I said fine. I took the bus to the office since they don't validate. Entered the waiting room which was small but clean (it's also shared with Dr. Robert Dye). Now, when I think of dermatologists I think of looking after your skin from a health perspective - acne, skin cancer, etc. But all of the brochures seemed to be for cosmetic procedures. Oh, LA. After about a 15 minute wait I was led to an exam room. Dr. Vafaie entered shortly thereafter. She was young. Now, that's not really important for any reason other than... right now dermatology is one of the hardest fields to get a residency in. So if you are seen by a young dermatologist you sure as hell know that they're pretty darn smart or at least did really well in med school. Okay, so I show her the mark on my arm and she's like "oh, that thing?" kind of dismissively. Sorry, I don't need botox at the age of 26. She said she could take it off that day. I mentioned to her that my wedding was coming up in 4 weeks and wanted to know if it would heal in time, and she said that it would. My understanding is that there's two types of ways to biopsy skin - either they can remove the thing with a blade, leaving an open wound that will fill in, or can go deeper and require stitches. She went for the former and put a bandaid on top after, giving me the instruction to cover it with vaseline and a bandaid for 1-2 weeks and that it would heal nicely. At that point she was as quick as possible to get out of the room and later I saw her in the hallway on her iPhone texting or whatever. I paid my co-pay but was aware that there would be a lab fee I'd have to pay. Went home and the next day nearly fainted (I'm squeamish) when I saw a pretty deep crater in my arm. After a week she said that the biopsy was negative and really brushed it off to the point that I felt moronic for getting it checked out and now having to deal with a really slow healing scar on my arm. After two weeks the healing was still really slow. Shortly thereafter I got a bill from one doctor for the labwork and paid for it. Fast forward 5 months. I still have a large scar on my arm from the biopsy and it's filled with scar tissue or something that makes my skin feel leathery. I'm not pleased. To add insult to injury I get a random invoice in the mail from another company asking me to pay them for the labwork. So I call Dr. Vafaie's office and they say that when one of the labs sees an irregularity in the biopsy, then they send it to another doctor for a second opinion. So either this was the case - and I was not informed - or they're doing some crappy business with their other doctor friends to milk patients for more money. Either way, uncool. On top of that, I mentioned that I only received this invoice now, and the doctor's office was fully aware that this lab takes forever to bill patients. I'm fortunate to have a balance in my bank account, but others may have difficulty making an unexpected payment especially this time of year. Why wouldn't you work with someone more reputable? Finally, I mentioned to the staff that my scar hadn't healed at all and they said I should book another appointment with the doctor. I mentioned the cost and they were like "well, doesn't insurance cover it?" Most of us have co-pays, and I really have no interest in forking over any more money to this place. Now I just have to find another doctor who can fix Dr. Vafaie's inadequacies. read more

It's very infrequent that I disagree with the Yelp community, but this is one case where it happened. I went to see Dr. Vafaie to get advice on how to improve my skin since I'm getting married in six months. The pros: -Office is conveniently located in Westwood -Office seemed to run on time -The doctor was extremely nice -If it matters to you (it didn't to me), she was young and attractive. My single male friends would have thought she was very "cute." -For someone who looked young, she seemed to have a lot of experience. The cons: -Her handshake - okay - I know it seems petty - but you can tell a lot from a person based on their handshake and hers gave me the creeps a bit because it was like shaking a stiff board. -Her recommendation - without even examining my face using closeup equipment, she suggested I go on oral and topical antibiotics INDEFINITELY for acne. Now, I definitely don't have perfect skin and do break out once in a while, but it seemed like that was an awfully extreme diagnosis. When I suggested I don't want to go on antibiotics if I don't absolutely have to, she seemed to lump me into that "all natural" crowd of people she infrequently sees who don't like meds. -Products - she recommended OTC products for my face that she sold in her office. When I asked where outside of her office I could buy them, she would not offer an answer and reiterated I should just buy them there. -Prescriptions - she asked me where I like to get my prescription filled and when I said CVS, she said that my insurance might not cover it, but if there was a problem to just call her office and they'd tell me about another pharmacy where I could get the prescriptions. She reiterated no less than FOUR times in about 10 minutes how there might be a problem. By the time I walked out, I was convinced that: 1) it wasn't worth it to even try my own pharmacy and 2) she must be getting some type of kickbacks from either the pharma company or the drugstore. By the end, I was so uncomfortable, I just wanted to leave and then she ended it with that terrible handshake again. I fully admit I may have just had a bad experience and completely believe the others who had a good experience, but I just wanted others to be aware of mine. read more

Probably one of the worst dermatologists I have ever been to. She barely looked at one of the problems I came in for and didn't even look at the other. She wrote some notes down on the back of her business card and expected me to be able to be able to read them. I have been looking for a good dermatologist for quite awhile so I have seen quite a few docs. Don't waste your time and money on this one. One of the worst experiences ever and to make matters worse, they completely exploited us and our insurance. Nine months after our appointment we are still recieving bills from different pathologists. Vafaie was not concerned at all about a rash that my son had but felt it should be biopsied. They sent it to numerous pathologists and we have had to pay several hundred dollars to these 4 facilities. Of course the biopsies showed nothing but the bills keep coming. When I confronted the office manger abut all the unnecessary lab work her response to me was, "well you signed the authorization form, we can send it to whoever we like". Never did I imagine that greed would take precedent over ethics. The care we received (a prescription for a $100 tube of cream) was hardly worth the expense and aggravation. I am convinced that whatever positive write-ups that are on this site regarding Vafie were created by friends or co-workers attempting to portray her in a way she clearly is not. This is office has one main goad and that is to make as much money off you as possible. In retrospect, it is obvious that Dr. Vafaie gets kick backs from labs and pharmaceutical companies. I am sure that it is only a matter of time that her license is revoked. Keep looking for a doctor...don't go here! read more

I started seeing Dr. Vafaie about a year ago after moving to Malibu. I have acne prone skin which also hyper pigments easily. The stress if my cross country move really aggravated my skin n. Dr. Vafaie has worked with me to get my skin under control and also reverse the hyper pigmentation to get my skin back on track to the smooth & bright skin tone I had before the break outs. She did not go to drastic measures or put me on intense meds because she really wanted to be careful to not over dry or medicate me - I really appreciate her calm & cautious approach. She also has seen my 12 yr. old daughter & my husband & removed moles of concern on both of them. The care she provided them was wonderful & the areas where the moles were removed look fantastic. I have enjoyed the fact that Dr. Vafaie can offer great & complete dermatological care for my entire family. I also appreciate that they always are happy to see me & not in such a rush when during my visit. I highly recommend her office & her services. A little side note: As you sit in the waiting room you will also notice her patients are of all ages and all have a naturally beautiful appearance. I have had botox and restylane injections at medi spas for 10 years. Around 3 years ago I had a visit to Dr. Vafaie and I haven't been to anyone else since. She is more thorough and artistic than anyone I have been to and I can see it in my results. She also has a skin care line with Retin-A and hydroquinone that are fantastic. Retin A from a pharmacy is always white goop that dries out your skin. Hydroquinone is always foul smelling brown goop that stings. But her product line (with retin-A and hydroquinone) is plush, silky and smells nice. It's way better than what I used to get at the pharmacy, it's competetively priced and it gives me one-stop shopping by eliminating the trip to the phamacy. I highly recommend it. read more

Dr. Vafaie is a highly skilled Doctor with a professional and approachable demeanor. She found a small asymptomatic rough spot on my left thigh during a routine check, biopsied it and found that it was an in-situ squamous cell carcinoma. Cancer? Just barely, but it would be much more to deal with if it had not been found when it was. She was very precise with the incision and removal (approx. 2 inches long and diamond shaped), leaving a very faint smooth scar - if you had seen the incision you would know how amazing this is. She is also good with routine skin issues. She is very thorough, explaining any procedure, therapy, or medication. She has even called me personally to follow-up. read more

I saw Dr Vafaie last monday. I came home from vacation in miami and found myself covered in jellyfish stings which had turned into gross/itchy blisters, welts and bumps. I thought for sure I was going to die of a venomous bite. Her and her office kindly squeezed me in last-minute after work on monday and I have nothing but good things to say about this place. The staff was all very courteous and helpful. I finally saw the doctor and even though I felt like a monster below the waist on my legs/thighs she assured me that my condition was treatable. I got a steroid shot and a few topical creams and now a few days have passed....and my legs look almost back to normal! Not to mention that the horrible itch from hell is gone. I also got some extra treatment out of one visit. She addressed my chronic acne condition that I have been suffering with my entire life and gave me some creams to try. Let's see how this works out, but I am pretty confident that it'll work. Her skin is AMAZING btw. She says that she uses all the acne products that were prescribed for me. So I'm definitely going to try them :) THANK YOU to Dr. Vafaie and her amazing staff for taking care of me so promptly and for giving me some peace of mind. I will go back in a heartbeat. She makes you feel like a regular person and really knows how to relate with her patients and not make you feel like you have a freak-ish health problem, but that she is there to take care of them and that she knows exactly what you're going through. After struggling with adult acne for well over a year, I went to Dr Vafaie. I was pretty exhausted by my problem: I had been to different dermatologists, tried various topical treatments, washes, etc. and nothing had helped. At 31 years old (and getting married next year!) it was a daily struggle and I was just doing damage control all the time. I explained my issues to Dr. Vafaie and she instantly knew I was dealing with hormonal acne. She prescribed a topical treatment and a follow up for the next month. When I saw her again, things were better, but not great, so she prescribed an oral option, which I have now called "the wonder pill." Almost instantly I saw improvement in my skin - blemishes became way less frequent. When I had my third follow up, she up'd the dosage just a bit and voila: my skin is clearer than it has ever been before!! I saw her today for the last (for awhile) visit and felt like I should bring her a fruit basket or flowers - my world is entirely different with clearer skin. I'm more confident, I am wearing more fun lipstick, and my mornings aren't filled with dread and what might have happened overnight. Simply put- I came here because I wanted to look younger and get rid of my sun damage. They gave me some good products but the best part was they told me about IPL in their Los Angeles office. I Would definitely recommend Dr. Vafaie to everyone. I recently was recommend by family doctor to see Dr. Vafaie for a skin condition. When she came into the room I saw that she was young and pretty. I had my doubts. She walked in and greeted me, nice, sincere, and professional. She asked me what was troubling me and I showed her my rash( which would not go away), she examined it. Then she asked me a few questions regarding my use of soap, deodorant and if I had used anything new or different than usual. Big yes to that! My sister gave me one of those expensive name brand deodorant ( yes rash is on my underarms) She told me there are a few factors to my rash, by trying to stay clean and smell nice I'm actually allergic to the deodorant or soap. She told me I can use calamine lotion, and apply hydrocortisone cream or take antihistamine. Oatmeal baths. She gave me a lot more details of how rashes works and things I can do. The whole time I'm her care she made me feel comfortable. She answered all my questions and her knowledge of her work gave me confidence in her. She was never distracted and was very on point. I left feeling that I was in good hands. A couple of days later my rash went away. No more annoying itches and embarassmentvto wear short sleeves. Don't judge Dr. Vafaie by her looks.
