The egg roll was very fresh, delicious and perfect ratio of crispiness/chewiness. The vegetable lo mein was phenomenal and the portion size was really big so I'll have two meals from it. Not that pleased with our dinner from Jani. I've only heard good things about this place but all three dishes had an overwhelming amount of sauce. The flavor was good, but a lot of the food was overpowered by the sauce. I drained all the sauce from the 3 dishes and took a pic so you can see how much was there. The seafood dish had plenty of shrimp and crab, also some nice lychee and pineapple thrown in. The udon dish was good, I felt like it was mostly protein and not enough noodles though. Was driving down the road and saw Jani's and have been to their other location I figured I should try this one. Inside was beautiful, the display case and terra cotta warriors was really cool. The food comes out quick and piping hot. Everything we had was very good except the XLB they where just average. Jani has been our go to take out for many years! We have always enjoyed the food. In the past we have had very small minor issues with delivery.....last night that changed For Valentines Day we decided to order Chinese with the kids. We ordered Several dishes, one being Kung Pao Chicken with extra peanuts. The woman repeated my order but said Kung Pao Chicken add Peanuts. I said yes kung Pao ( Sichuan) chicken add extra peanuts. She said ok. Very quickly the food arrived ( 15-20 min) I opened it up and everything was ok except the chicken. She gave me an order of General Chow chicken with peanuts on it. It was gross to look at. I immediately called back and informed her of the error. I asked that it be corrected. Instead of apologizing, instead of saying we will fix it, she said this is all your fault you ordered General Cho. She refused to correct the error. I told her very clearly no it was her mistake and why would anyone order extra peanuts on General Cho , it doesn't even come with peanuts much less to add extra? Aside from all of that I had mention Sichuan Chicken to clarify my order. She insisted I was wrong and told me no. That she said General Cho. I said clearly there is a language barrier here, and I asked to speak with someone else. As soon as I asked to speak to someone ,she said never mind I will just send out the new order. (This is after arguing with me for 5 minutes on the phone.) One hour later ( almost to the minute) the order of Kung Pao arrives. The deliver driver hands me the kung Pao , does not apologize and says please give us back our General Cho. So I went into my garbage and dug out the peanut covered General cho and gave it back to him. He grabbed it and left. So gross and very rude !!! Why did they want food back that was opened looked at and thrown in the garbage? Did they reserve this food? The world may never know!!!! This is probably the best Chinese food I've had in a very long time. So many restaurants have turned to strictly takeout so there's actually no atmosphere however here at Jani, they do it right. My dish which was the bean curd and vegetables was absolutely fantastic the portion was enormous I couldn't even eat a quarter of it. The sauce was exquisite. My husband and mother-in-law ordered from the luncheon menu they both ordered the chicken and black bean sauce. Once again magnificence the sauce was the best black bean sauce I've ever had. I can't speak for the Chinese food or the dine-in experience, as I got take-out sushi. But the sushi may have been the worst I've ever had. Salmon roll was a pale pink instead of bright orange- low quality and flavorless. The shrimp tempura was somehow chewy and overcooked. Probably the worst was the "ikura". Ikura is supposed to be salmon roe- large orange eggs. What they give you is straight up not ikura, it's a spoonful of tobiko (tiny eggs used as garnish) on rice and wrapped with nori. It's 100% false advertising, I guess they expect people not to know better. And the tobiko got all over the rest of our sushi. Just yikes. read more

GREAT LUNCH SPECIALS. this place is a great place to come for lunch, and there are so many good lunch options from both Chinese dishes to Japanese dishes. Everything is very good here except I am not a fan of the Salad or the dressing they use. The staff is very quick at bringing out your food and the amount of options make it a good option for big groups or people with diverse dietary needs. I only come here for lunch since the deals are so good, but I probably wouldn't come here for dinner to pay the same prices as some other very good Asian food places. Their presentation of their food is good and they start you off with fried noodles and this sweet sauce to dip them in. Then we moved to the south shore and thankfully found Jani here in Wantagh and we've been coming here 7 years. We are always greeted as we walk in the door and seated right away. I always enjoy everything I've ordered which is most of the menu. I find each dish quite flavorful. My only negative is the wonton soup broth. I find it lacking in flavor but the wontons are good. Mixed feelings about this one during a recent visit back to Long Island. All of the dishes we ordered that were supposed to be spicy (from menu) were not at all...that really detracted from the dish. Our to-go order was missing several items (too far for us to drive back to retrieve) and finally the staff at the register were very impersonal. We also thought they could do a little better, compared to other local restaurants, with their noodles for the soup. I've been going to Jani's for about 20 years and have been loving it all this time. I've chosen Jani's for graduation celebration dinners, birthday dinners - any special occasion, I voted to bring my family to Jani's. On nights we aren't celebrating, my parents love to order sushi from Jani's for dinner. I now have my boyfriend hooked on picking Jani's for date nights. The wait staff is very friendly, approachable, courteous, and efficient. You are greeted with a smile and given water and green tea upon being seated. The tables and booths are spread out very nicely and the mirrored ceilings give the room an even larger look. After you give your order, you are given thick wonton chips, duck sauce, and spicy mustard (you CAN ask for more). In regards to the Chinese food, I have enjoyed the following: miso soup, duck soup, sesame chicken, general tso chicken, lo mein. I've also enjoyed their California roll, spicy tuna roll, and Philadelphia roll. The portions are generous, especially for the Chinese food; I always end up bringing chicken home. Meals at a great price and the check is always accompanied by a complimentary treat. Dessert is always a fortune cookie per person, orange slices, and a cherry. Out of all the Jani locations around Long Island, I like this one the most. They are the only location that offers an early bird special Monday-Friday, 4pm-6pm. The early bird special includes: - choice of soup - choice of appetizer - choice of entree - soda or wine - dessert. It's a pretty good deal, just make sure you order by 6pm! For my meal tonight, I ordered miso soup, veggie dumplings, Szechuan chicken and red wine. Everything was delicious and full of flavor. My mom got egg drop wonton soup, egg roll, sautéed spinach with chicken and shrimp and white wine. I had a piece of her meal and it was amazing! I still have to mention that they put shrimp in their pork egg rolls. This should be marked on their menu for people with a shellfish allergy! My stepdad had miso soup, pork dumplings, mango chicken and red wine. He finished everything...so I'm pretty sure he enjoyed it! The service was great. Ahhhh I think people are giving this place too hard of a time! This is my go-to sit down Chinese place, at lunch time anyways. I've been coming here for years, as long as I can remember. And at lunch time, its definitely a bang for your buck. My girlfriends and I came here this afternoon for lunch. After contemplating between Japanese and Chinese, I chose the lunch option where you can get a little bit of both. My lunch bento box came with a salmon roll, ginger salad, white rice, and chicken and broccoli, all for the low price of $8.95! That is without the wonton soup and crunch noodles with duck sauce that we got also! Such a good deal, and I have so many leftovers. Also we got their fried pork dumplings, so good! And an order of 8 was less than $5! I'll be honest, but I was really nervous about getting their sushi. Thankfully, it was fresh and delicious, and I am definitely going to come back and take advantage of their early bird sushi special (most sushi being 50% off Mon-Fri 4-6pm). I'm sorry that I have to write this over two dollars but it's the principle of the thing. I have bees regular at the Wantagh location for at least 5 years and it has been my go to restaurant for Chinese food. I'm really ticked off over what just happened. I ordered the egg foo young special from the menu and pointed to it in front of the waiter. It is listed at $17.95 and shows pork, chicken, and shrimp. When I received my check, it showed the price at $19.95. I questioned the two dollar discrepancy and was told that they charged extra for the pork! No mention of an up charge or price increase in the menu. You would think that a smart business man would acknowledge the error and satisfy the customer. Nope, they insisted that I somehow made the error. ???? Losing loyal customers over two dollars is just plain stupid in my opinion. read more
