The parking lot is small but the venue is fairly big. I walked in for lunch and there was a decent crowd. Chips and salsa were good. House made chips were enjoyable and the salsa had good flavor. For my entree, I got the chicken chimicanga. I was taken back a bit as the chimicanga came in smothered with a cheese sauce. But the flavors of the sauce were good. The tortilla was nice and crispy and the chicken was cooked really well, though it could have used a bit more seasoning. The guacamole that came on top of the chimicanga was good. My server was very helpful and attentive. I went during lunch but there was still a decent crowd there. It seems like it would be a festive place to be during the evening hours. read more

With Mexican restaurant all around the area it can be challenging to find a place that stands out. Janitzio's does on two levels. First, customer service. We were greeted with kind words and friendliness, followed by great table service. Second, the use of "real" silverware instead of the extremely poor quality, flimsy, stuff found at almost all the competition in town. Of course the food was good, too. Our plates meals were promptly served on piping hot plates. And, the orders were correct and generous for the price. The restaurant is showing signs of it's age, but it's kept very clean. The tables wobble, but that seems to be the case in most places these days. read more

This is a GREAT Mexican restaurant if you're looking for something similar to your favorite local spot at home. I'm giving 4 stars because it's great for what it is -- complimentary chips & salsa, lots of options in a spiral-bound menu, and quick service. This is NOT what you want if you're looking for more authentic Mexican food, but I'm not rating it that way and I find it unfair to be rate spots like this negatively because they don't provide the same Mexican food you'd expect over the border. The service was VERY friendly! Our cups, salsa bowl, and chip baskets were never empty. They have a nice salsa bar and some authentic drink options, too. The only reason I wouldn't give this spot 5 stars is because I found the meat in our meals to be rather unseasoned and bland. I got a combo with a chicken burrito and beef taco, and neither meat had any flavor on its own, but seemed to rely on the other elements of the dish (sauces, cheeses, etc) to provide the flavor. My husband got the chimichangas which were covered in cheese and came with a guacamole salad he enjoyed. He wanted to rate 5 stars but I just couldn't do that to you guys with unseasoned meat ;) Overall, we liked this spot and left satisfied! The chicken chimichanga was edible but the chicken burrito was terrible. I had basically two bites and that was all I could do. The chips and salsa/beans was the best thing at the table and even that wasn't that great. We're up from Texas and maybe I'm just spoiled on such a great variety of TexMex. Not very good for the most part. So the grilled shrimp was good, the tea was good, and the quest had a good flavor, but everything else was blah. The beans, queso, and guacamole were all so thin, it was like a thin soup. I got the steak Janitzio, and it was cooked to death. That steak was not good at all. A terrible cut of meat burned to a crisp. Probably a good thing it was such a small portion of meat, because I felt irritated with every bite I took. Why on Earth is everything so runny? I needed a spoon to eat most of this, which wasn't provided. They have to know a fork is almost useless. I guess that's why they bring tortillas out with it, so you can try and scoop the food up. The old Hispanic lady that waited on me couldn't understand me, and she didn't seem to know the menu. It was hard to tell because there was a huge language barrier. She brought out chips with not very good salsa, and asked me if I was ready to order. I literally just sat down, I need a couple minutes please. She never came to ask about my food, she never did anything but bring me a bad steak, and a tea. She looked like she was in a bad mood, so I'm guessing she just had her lunch here. 2 stars because the shrimp, flour tortilla, chips, and tea were good, but everything else was not. Wait, the super runny guacamole was pretty good, but I had to eat all the lettuce to get any of it, because it ran down the lettuce like it was a salad dressing. Oh, maybe it was supposed to be a salad and not guacamole on a bed of lettuce? I don't know why it wasn't clear. All I know is that was a waste of $27 and a waste of calories. The food here is so delicious and fresh, you can tell they hand-make most everything (hot, fresh corn tortillas are heaven!) Family owned and operated, super nice owners and servers. I have too many favorites, but they make a mean mole, Pollo con Crema is fantastic, big tasty tamales, I eat their Sopa de Pollo all through winter. I love their Micheladas and they always have a different flavor of Jugo de Frutas. This place is a little too authentic for some people, I've gathered, but that's the way I like it. You like spicy? With all the Mexican restaurants in Hendersonville, competition is fierce and I was unimpressed with this one. Don't waist your time and money at this place. The service was slow, at least a 40 minute wait for our food and we were one of three tables in the whole place. My friend who had the exact same dish last weekend said that the food is inconsistent ... I wouldn't recommend this place for Sunday lunch. Don't recommend going to Janitzios in Hendersonville on Spartanburg Hwy. Horrible service and the server and the manager argued with us about the menu when we ordered very specifically - the issue was that our server couldn't comprehend due to language barriers. The freshness of the salsa bar and the prompt courteous staff was a very good start to my lunch. Maria was a very good waitress and provided very fast service. No to the food....very authentic Mexican fare. I had the chicken soup, very tasty. Bed of rice, good rich broth and large chunks of meat. Hand made tortillas were excellent. Now to the big news....
