    Jan's Village Pizza

Been to Jan's a couple of times. We really like their pizza. The crust is a good ... more thin than not ... which is what we like. Unfortunately the last two times we've been, our bill has been incorrect. I don't mean charged for something not ordered. And the employees at Jan's will say our bill was correct. Specifically, the price on the menu that they give you to order from is NOT the price you are charged. We were charged 10-15% more than the menu price (around $4 or so). We asked about this and where told, "the computer is correct". I then asked if they didn't want to reprint the menus. The waitress just shrugged. With inflation, I can understand not wanted the added cost of reprinting menus. But how about taking a pen and manually updating them? Or, posting a sign (they have several boards with messages already)? Or telling the customers? For good faith and customer service, it seems full transparency would be a good business practice. As mentioned we like the pizza and supporting small local businesses. My wife wants to return for those reasons.... Stating now that we know the price, we know the price. For my part, I'm iffy on a return. So, go if you want good pizza but be warned the menu is currently incorrect on pricing as of mid February 2023.

I'm deducting a star, and as always, that requires an explanation. My original review was written nearly three years ago, just a week after I moved to Westfield. There has apparently been a change of management. I don't know all the details, but unfortunately, the place has become a little dirtier, a little gloomier, and the pizza itself seems more like an old leather catcher's mitt. Don't get me wrong; a 'dive' place can easily be redeemed by superior craft pizza and/or some other food item that knocks it out of the park. Jan's never had pizza of that caliber, and with the recent reduction in overall quality, things are heading in the wrong direction. Examples: * As I write this review, one of the owners/employees is sitting at a nearby table, having grabbed some pizza (without a plate) from the lunch buffet. He's sitting there talking and eating with another customer. Employees should never eat right next to customers, especially wearing a ratty t-shirt and jeans. I have questions about this place's ability to pass a health inspection. * The pizza I'm eating right now was sitting under the heat lamps for quite some time, and no new pizzas have been brought out since I've been here (going on 40 minutes). Imagine a Tombstone pizza that's been sitting on the counter for an hour... I think this establishment should seriously consider changing direction, and moving into the boutique pizza genre. Invest in an 800 degree oven, hire some experienced chefs, and consider a new employee uniform policy. You'll pack this place if you move into thin crust, artisan pizza. Westfield and Carmel are into that sort of thing. Owners - if you're listening, I want to help. This building has charm, and I hope you'll make some changes. I want to be constructive, so please reach out if I can provide any real-world perspective on this. Thanks.

We had Jan's and the crust is waaaay better than the Greeks. Sauce at the Greeks is sweeter but crust is thinner and more gourmet tasting. We did all cheese for the taste test for Phish weekend in August 2021 but both were given thumbs up by the crew. If you want thinner go for Jan's. If you want sweeter, and thicker, go to the Greek.

I met up with my family for brunch, and we were all in a waffle kind of mood. I ordered the banana granola waffle and it was next-level good! The waffle was perfectly crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and layered with just the right balance of sweetness and texture from the ample amount of bananas, whipped cream, and granola. Paired with a cinnamon maple latte? I was one deep breath away from writing a personal thank-you letter to the hands that prepared that plate! But honestly, one of the best parts of the visit was the energy. The woman running the register was giving full-on main character vibes. You could tell immediately she wasn't just taking orders--she was living the dream. The care. The joy. The way she engaged every single customer. That kind of presence can't be faked. It felt like ownership--even if it wasn't, it carried that level of pride and purpose. The indoor seating is cozy (read: tight but charming), but there's plenty of outdoor seating and as Indiana finally remembers what sunshine feels like, this is going to be the spot. Perfect for lingering over a latte, reading a book, or catching up with a good friend. Come for the coffee. Savor a waffle. Watch out for the redhead!

There was a lot of food for the price, and the ribs had plenty of meat on them. The fries were solid, and while the mac and cheese wasn't my favorite and reminded me a bit of cafeteria mac and cheese, I still left full and had leftovers to take home. The food was ready surprisingly fast, probably within 7 to 10 minutes. The staff was friendly throughout the visit and did a great job checking in on us, clearing trays, and making sure everything was going well. As for the atmosphere, I can appreciate the theme they were going for, even if it's not quite my style. The dining room is pretty dark, and the dark murals make it feel even darker. That said, the food and service easily made up for it. Overall, it was a really good experience and a place I'd happily visit again.

Hubby and I ordered a meal for two and it came with your choice of 2 meats plus ribs, and 2 sides along with bread rolls, and pickled veggies. Kinda sad that I didn't get to order dessert as we decided too late and didn't want to get back in line. Restaurant is set up where you're in line to place your order and pick up your order at the other counter. Line can get a little long but it goes by pretty fast. You then seat yourself and all the condiments, sauce, and drinks are all at different stations for self serve. There are plenty of seats inside and even a bar inside the restaurant. Very casual and kid friendly atmosphere.

The restaurant itself is located separately from the dog park area (therefore feel free to visit without a dog for no access fee!) with outdoor space looking out over the park. The outdoor eating area is covered and cool. The indoor spaces offers several tables for indoor dining. We were quickly greeted by the friendly cashier. Food was prepared fresh, but also came out quickly! For appetizers, we had the taco egg roll. This is served with a chipotle crema that offers a nice subtle kick. We also tried the carne asada fries. These stole the show and are a must get!! My husband and I shared the Rancho and Oaktown tortas. Both were very good and of large portions. My favorite of the two was the Oaktown with the fried chicken making the sandwich! We ended with some churros. These are stuffed and delicious. Perfectly crispy fries, topped with juicy meat, pickled onions, delicious salsa. The taco egg rolls were packed full of carne asada and cheese, perfectly fried, and accompanied with a flavor packed chipotle crema. The ranchero torta was the first torta I've ever had- and I'm disappointed in myself for going this long without one. The bread was crispy, carne asada perfectly cooked, with all the other toppings rounded it out- . The oaktown torta was also another star of the show. The chicken was perfectly fried, the chipotle crema added a nice kick, with the pickled red onion balancing everything out. The service was quick, and everyone showed wonderful hospitality. We were just as welcomed without dogs with us, but it was fun sitting on the patio watching all the dogs run around together.
