My daughter was getting her first CRT Len. Dr. Shinmori is very patient. She explained well to my ten year old daughter. My daughter immediately grasped the trick. I had an eye exam for the first time at Shinmori Optometry with Dr. Nakano and I am very pleased with the quality of service. I can vouch from first hand experience that Dr. Nakano was very customer oriented and generous. In fact, Dr. Nakano provided prescriptions for both contact lens and eyeglasses in case i decide that i wanted eyeglasses too. Usually, the contact lens and eyeglass exams are separate and is available each for an additional cost at any other doctor's office. But not here, i got two for the price of one! I went in expecting only a contact lens exam and came out with options for both contact lenses and eyeglasses. I have been wearing contact lenses for 12 years now and I've been noticing that every time i see a new doctor, i get charged $100 for contact lens fitting fee. Its basically a simple way for doctors to charge you $100 for them to put the contact lens in your eye for you. However, Dr. Nakano was very honest about the contact lens fitting service and since the power of my lenses stabilized for the past 4 years, she didn't charge me the additional lens fitting fee. Another thing I liked about the office was i did not feel pressured into buying anything or any additional services like my experience with the staff over there at 20/20 optometry of silicon valley. I was hoping to write a more glowing review, but unfortunately, my experience with Shinmori Optometry was less than stellar. I have gone to many optometrists before, and compared with prior offices, the quality of service was mediocre. I think if you need the optometrists' staff to speak Japanese, then this is the place for you, but if not, you may find communicating with some of the front-desk staff challenging. One of the office staff also took a frustratingly long time trying to calculate my bill, and I had to go back twice to have one pair of glasses done satisfactorily. read more

I've been going here for years and have always enjoyed their services. But today they really excelled in their service so I feel obligated to write a review (I don't write reviews often). I originally found them 4-5 years ago while I was in college. My kaiser had expired and I my last contact tore apart. I skipped class to find a replacement pair (yes at the time I was that worried about how I looked in glasses). I drove and called around to every optometrist and their turn around time to get my contacts was 3-7 days. I didn't want to skip a week of school because I didn't like how I looked in glasses. I kept looking and found Shinmori Optometry. Not only did they have mine in stock, but they were able to order more for the very next day! Since then I've gone to them for contacts, eye exams, and lenses (I got frames from my Aunt because she works for Armani). I don't have vision insurance and surprisingly their non-coverage prices aren't expensive. And just today I'm out of contacts and leaving tonight to go to Vegas for the first time, I call them and they are able to get me a pair today for the weekend. Amazing service, really helpfully optometrists who care when you get your eye exam (not like other places that flip the lens once and are annoyed if you can't tell the difference), and great prices. Very thorough tests that are done. My Dr. also offers various tests, never pressuring me to do them, but simply advises me. She also allows me to know what is covered by my insurance. Everyone is very communicative & allows me to have as options as necessary for any of my needs. The only hiccup I have is purchasing my contacts. Both years that I've been, they overcharged me by purchasing the wrong contacts. After contacting my insurance & calling them, they immediately resolve the issue & apologize for the inconvenience. So, even then I can't fault them too much, as they do everything they can to fix the problem & do it very quickly. read more

They treat me as if I'm the only client and have gone to great lengths to get me the best price on my glasses and to make it easy for me to just ship my glasses to them and back to me. The Shinmori office has handled my high myopia for decades. Everything from glasses, contact lens, and referrals to ophthalmologists and cataract surgery. I had problems with soft contacts that could not provide acceptable vision and hard lens created irritation. They found me the dual compound synergy contact lens that not many offices offer, and that has been working very well. I've been going to Shinmori Optometry since 1998. Dr Shinmori is my preferred doctor. I've seen some of the other doctors in the office and they are all top-notch. The rest of the staff is terrific as well, with awesome and personable customer service. You are not just a number here. Amazing! I decided to come here after my old optometrist stopped taking my insurance. I called the office and immediately received great customer service. They took the time to review my insurance coverage and luckily they did take it! So I made my appointment, When I got there, the whole staff was very friendly. I filled out my paper work and was promptly token in, no waiting. I forgot the name of my optometrist but she was very nice and explained everything in detail. She then told me I can go look at glasses and had a lady (not sure if receptionist or doc.) help me. She was VERY helpful, she was not stingy letting me try on glasses and stuck to my budget. They had all kinds, brands, & pricing (Juicy Couture, RayBan, Tommy Hilfiger, & other more expensive ones like Prada, Hugo Voss, Gucci). What I most appreciated was that she was so patient. I am extremely indecisive and she helped me choose without being pushy. She even let me take pics with an ipad to see how i look in different angles. They told me it would take about 1 week to a week & a half because I got a coating on in but it came in 4 DAYS! Couldnt be any happier(: read more

Up until last year, I never had the need to see an eye Doctor. I noticed that I had to hold objects like cell phones & medicine bottles further away in order to read the screen/labels. I figured it might be time to get my eyes checked so I called Shinmori Optometry. My first visit, along with each subsequent visit, has been great. The office is clean, well maintained and managed by a very friendly staff. They use modern practices and high tech equipment, not just an eye paddle and eye chart like I had imagined. I love Shinmori Optometry. I first came here probably 8 years ago because I lived near Japantown and it was a convenient location for me, but after actually visiting the office, I was impressed. The staff is always friendly and pleasant, the optometrists are wonderful and always make me feel comfortable. I never feel rushed when I am trying to pick out frames, and what my insurance will and will not cover is always outlined for me. My first visit to Shinmori Optometry made several impressions on me, the first being how clean and classy the office is. The small and cozy storefront really disguises how spacious their office really is. While most visits shouldn't take much longer than 2 hours, patrons must be mindful that the surrounding area in Japan Town is mostly metered parking. I've seen two doctors here; Dr. Kim and Dr. Nakano, both of whom are incredibly professional and take the time to be thorough and answer all of my questions no matter how small. I've interacted briefly with Dr. Shinmori, who was also very nice and I must commend her for bringing together such an A-plus staff. Whenever I've needed to make an appointment or request records, they have been very responsive and prompt. I also enjoyed their collection of frames, albeit a fairly small and relatively pricey selection (think designer). I highly recommend Shinmori to anybody in the South Bay. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Shinmori's for almost ten years and my two oldest children are patients as well. Dr. Shinmori is extremely professional, patient and does a great job of explaining every part of the exam/procedure so you're completely comfortable. She and her staff always clearly explain what my vision plan will cover when it's time to price out the lenses/frames/contacts, so I know what my budget is and I'm able to get the most value from my available benefits! The waiting area is small, but I've found that I never wait for more than a few minutes before being taken into the exam room. The front office staff are friendly. The frame selections are pretty good---not as large as what you'd find at Lenscrafters, but they carry some great brand names and the pricing ranges fall right in line with my vision plan frame budget of $150. They will repair your back-up glasses free of charge if you need it ( I'm always losing those tiny little eye frame screws or bending the frame!). The fact that they have Saturday hours is a huge plus!!! read more
