I finally sprung for something other than sushi last week and was sorely disappointed. The black pepper beef was oddly sweet and lacked any pepper punch associated with black pepper beef. The hot and sour soup was also oddly sweet. They should lay off the sugar and corn starch. The Korean bbq chicken was made with nice thick slices of chicken breast. It tasted better than it looked. The sauce tasted like gochujang mixed with sugar. The prices are reasonable and so are the portion sizes so this place is not a rip off. Service is acceptable as well. My primary gripe is with the food. The food is bad. Too bad there aren't many other Chinese options in the area. The sushi here is okay. I would stick with that if I came again. read more

I was preparing myself for a so-so meal based on some previous comments. I had never heard of this restaurant until I received a menu in my mailbox. But here's the thing, I'm a good 20 minutes away from here over in PA and not a place that I would go to for takeout or delivery. My dad and I decided to check it out prior to him going out of town because we both had been eyeing up the menu knowing the only way we would try it is by visiting. Started off with some jasmine tea and crab rangoon. The tea was tasty and good, with the exception of it spilling every time I poured it but I'm pretty sure that was user error. Crab rangoon was nothing out of the normal but very good. The sushi was excellent. It was prepared without a long wait and it was delicious. Here are the four items we got - California Roll, Eggplant Lady, Wilmington Roll, and Spicy Girl Roll. Everything was filling and delicious. First rounded up by $.02 then rounded up by $.15. When I asked for my change, the person waiting on me - said "Really you want your $.15". It's my $.15. The sushi I think is average good. I don't eat sashimi, so taking that into account, I can only comment on the basic rolls; Philly, California, Hairy Mexican. The former my daughter always orders. I did not care for the Singapore noodles at all. They were lacking the spices that normally make this dish great! Jasmine can always be counted on for a decent meal and friendly service. We've gone a handful of times now, often opting to go for their happy hour specials that run 5-7 PM and include half off of their basic sushi rolls, multiple $5 appetizers, and several drink options at $5-6.50 a drink. We usually order sushi as our meal, so I can't comment on most of the rest of the menu. This week, we went in for dinner to use a Groupon, which meant we couldn't go for happy hour. We ordered 4 sushi rolls and an order of the pork gyoza as an appetizer. The gyoza came out well after our sushi, so I didn't have much stomach space left, but this turned out to be for the best because I didn't love them anyway... they tasted similar to what I would expect from a frozen appetizer made at home. The sushi, however, was pretty good. I'm never floored by the sushi here, but I'm usually not disappointed either. This time, we ordered an Alaskan roll, a Spicy Tuna, a Mermaid Roll (spicy tuna roll with avocado/salmon/tuna on top), and a Hawaii Roll (Tempura shrimp and avocado with tuna and mango on top). Their spicy mayo is not my favorite so those rolls were just okay for me, but I really enjoyed the Hawaii Roll. We were seated near the bar, so the bartender actually doubled as our server. I'm a terrible person and forgot his name, but he's helped us before and is everything you want in a bartender --- friendly, outgoing, attentive, and fun to chat with, so I do have to acknowledge that he always adds to the experience. The service was horrible. The staff messed up my take out order. When I called to correct it I was then charged a higher price for the same exact sushi roll. I once loved this overprice restaurant. The quality once justified the price. However no more. The tail end of 2021 and 2022 seems the food took a deep dive to hell. Nothing taste fresh. My Hawaiian roll included shrimp tempura and there wasn't shrimp inside the tempura or maybe it was dried out. And it was really cold. The spicy tuna did not taste fresh. I had GenerL Tso's Tofu - probably the best I've ever had, Kung pow tofu - also very good (watch out for the peppers; they were spicier than normal, coming from someone who loves spicy!), and a mango avocado roll. I ordered the Party D platter to go on a Friday night. Holy moly, it was an ENORMOUS amount of sushi. I thought it would be enough for 4 people and it was easily enough for 8. It included Angry Bird Roll, TTS Roll, Volcano Roll, Sunset Roll, and Mexico Roll plus, shrimp tempura roll, spicy crab, eel avocado, california, spicy tuna, and spicy salmon. Looking at the list I probably shouldn't have been surprise with the amount... Regardless, we LOVED the specialty rolls. Super delicious. The maki rolls were also good, with the shrimp and the eel the preferred for us. I wish I had taken a picture, because it was wonderfully presented as well. I was turned off after my last lunch here so I did not return for a while but now, I am glad I did. The Thai Basil stir fry (I chose chicken but you can get beef, shrimp or veggie or tofu) is delicious and inexpensive as a lunch special (back page of menu). I also had some sashimi but stuck to salmon and tuna which were fine. The escolar, snapper and hamachi here taste slightly "fishy" to me - and hamachi especially can taste "off" if it is not uber-fresh. Lots of pre-frozen product in that sushi case, but hey, it's Wilmington, DE - not NYC or LA or Tokyo. This is a good option for pan-Asian near my office. read more

Solid sushi spots in Delaware are hard to come by and Jasmine ranks high on the list! They offer $10 off coupons on Clipper Magazine that I must secretly admit got me there in the first place. I was pleasantly surprised by the menu choices and prices. The calamari was stupendous. A heaping serving super light and crispy on the outside and soft and tender inside. How they slice and serve it is unique and I loved every bite. It is my new go to whenever we visit. I also really wanted to try the whole fried fish but we will leave that to another visit. I imagine they do a superb job just based on my calamari experience. We really enjoyed the sushi too. I wish I wrote this review sooner so I could remember what we ordered for future visits. Food has always been good, but instead of upping their advertising and promotion game to once again fill the dining room, it seems they are satisfied to be a take out joint. Where other restaurants who are a bit slow are putting coupons on Groupon, the weekly mailers, etc, Jasmen meets you with a take out table just inside the door. I usually rate places primarily based on what I order and what my companions order contributes to a fractional amount of the rating. This time, i would have rated Jasmine a 3 for their sushi preparation as the sushi wasnt very tasteful.. it was just okay. The fish was not extremely fresh or tasty and the rice was not very fresh tasting too. However, it was the chicken fried rice that my friend ordered (and I helped myself to) that we ended up ordering again and shared it. It was delicious! The chef made it spicy by adding the same chilli oil that was served to us on the side and also fixed the salt in the dish. So funny that I would recommend their chicken fried rice instead of their sushi. This might be proof of the declining ratings this place got in the past 7 years. When I went here the first time 6-7 yrs ago, this was the most recommended sushi joint, except Mikimotos in Wilmington downtown which is too busy for my comfort. Takumi which is a short distance away from this joint was a fledgling but soon became a strong contender. I would always get confused where to go for sushi between Jasmine and Takumi. but that argument was laid to rest by today's visit. I might come here again to have their fried rice.. but not for sushi. i was long a promoter of this place for awesome sushi, but that will change now onwards. I also ordered their ultimate dirty martini.. with Tangueray Gin instead of Vodka. the drink was extremely well made.. kudos to the bartender, but the olives could have been skipped. they had a strange feta cheese filling!
