Soup and salad bar. (Gumbo soup)

I love Jason's Deli! They have a great variety of food items on their menu. So many that I haven't tried everything yet lol! This time I got their soup and salad combo. The salad bar was clean and well stocked. Their gumbo soup is always a hit. The restaurant was clean and the service is always good. Don't judge the ranch dressing on the salad. Lol!

Even though Jason's deli is not a seafood restaurant I absolutely love their seafood gumbo! I wish it was one closer to my house, but whenever I'm in the Hoover area, I make a note to stop by and grab me two containers of gumbo. It has the right amount of heat and spice and it's always consistent. I highly recommend you stopping by and grabbing a bowl. You won't regret it!

Jason's Deli in hoover is such a slept on place. The staff is always top notch and friendly. It's a deli with a self service salad bar. The menu updates with the seasons and I always seem to find something new to try. Been coming here for years and rarely am I disappointed with anything here. I mean how can you be mad at free ice cream??

Ordering was mostly easy, but I think it is a bit overpriced for what you get. Plus since they claim they offer a veggie option online but then tell you they can't do it when you call them is a bit misleading. Plus there is .50 cent up charge for each sandwich that you want croissant bread on. We had to add a lunch box to our order. For sandwiches for 8 people, a veggie box, and chips with delivery, it was about $113 for very normal and nothing extraordinarily appealing sandwiches. However, it was convenient and therefore worth 3 stars. The delivery guy was much nicer than the lady who took my order. We would have went with subway but their tuna salad is under investigation for including 3 types of meat other than tuna!! Tips: order the chicken salad and or tuna for all the sandwiches as most of your guests won't mess with the mustard and mayonnaise packs. Also Sam's and Costco ready heat and secs pasta and salad kits are way cheaper and taste just as average as the stuff from Jason's Deli. And make your own fruit trays like we did. 1/10 of the cost and not that hard.

Came here for lunch on a Sunday. This place gets the after church crowd big time! Line was really long. Fortunately for me there were some regulars behind me and they told me what to order. I got the chicken salad for all three of us. I got croissants for all. I also decided to try the gumbo. I chose chips for all of our sides. Took our lunches to go. Everything was packaged very nicely. Sandwiches were very good. I enjoyed my sandwich. It came with a dill pickle. My gumbo was just okay. Next time I'll stick to getting gumbo at a cajun restaurant. Lol But I will definitely try a different soup next time. The restaurant is really big. I was actually quite surprised at the size. They also have a big salad bar and it was open the day I was there. It looked decent enough. The staff are very friendly and efficient, my stuff was made fast and I was in and out.

Salad bar is open again.

For something different, we chose Jason's Deli for Mother's Day lunch. Great casual, stress-free choice. Our selections included a California Club (served on a croissant) with a side salad, a Quarter Roasted Turkey Breast Muffuletta, Rueben the Great Lighter, and The Carmela which is a three-meat sandwich. Even as health restrictions are easing, they had staff making sure the open tables (since some were blocked off) were cleaned quickly, and they offered several times to refill drinks and/or get their famous froyo to reduce the number of people moving around the dining room. They do also offer a nice patio with umbrella tables, but it was pretty windy that day. (One umbrella casualty as proof.) I'd like to go back one day to sit outside if the weather is conducive.

Stopped by Smiley Brothers for lunch. Nice little restaurant with an old world vibe. Excellent wine…read morechoice, fresh cheese, dry aged ribeyes and fresh cut steaks. We were greeted promptly and took a few minutes to look at the menu. I LOVE roast beef, so it peaked my interest. My wife chose the Smiley burger. We placed our order and grabbed a seat. Place was quiet even though it was probably 75% full for lunch. Roast beef was served hot in toasted sour dough. Cheddar, tomato, lettuce and horseradish topped the generous portion of roast beef. Bread was crisp and the beef was hot and juicy. Horseradish gave a nice tangy flavor. My wife's Smiley burger was hand patted. Juicy and perfectly cooked. Bun was soft inside and nicely toasted in the outside. Bread and butter pickles, onion, tomato and lettuce topped it off. But the star of the show were the fries cooked in beef tallow!! Hot and salty, crispy and a deep flavor. I would come back just for the fries. Although a little bit pricey for lunch, it was excellent! Staff were friendly and attentive! Would highly recommend and will definitely be back! Thanks for an awesome lunch and excellent experience!

I've been passing this restaurant for over a decade and always think to myself. I'd like to try it…read more So on a Sunday afternoon , my son and I decided to give it a whirl. Because this is in the same parking lot as first watch, which is a breakfast/lunch restaurant the parking lot was pretty packed. We got there around 12 and luckily he was able to find a parking spot. As soon as we walked in, we could tell it was pretty busy in there. I saw a couple getting up from a table and immediately went over and sat at the table. It is table service, but you do have to order at the counter. They have a pretty good variety of burgers, chicken sandwiches, and salads. Unfortunately, due to an outbreak for lettuce that is getting people sick I decided against getting a salad. I just got a regular cheeseburger and it was delicious. My son also got a buffalo chicken sandwich which I must say was a very good size sandwich and a burger with tater tots. I got the french fries and they were very good. I will definitely be back here. The prices were great, and the food was delicious.

Baja Burger may want to gather the staff together and have a difficult conversation about the word…read more"burger" being in the restaurant name. Because when I walked in and asked the very nice guy at the register what their best item was, he didn't hesitate for even half a second. "Fried chicken club sandwich. Hands down." Not "one of our burgers." Not "depends what you like." Nope. Immediate confidence. The kind of confidence that makes you trust a stranger with your financial future. So naturally I ordered exactly that. He even doubled down and told me it was the best sandwich he's ever had. Ever. That's a dangerous level of hype to put on a chicken sandwich. At that point I wasn't ordering lunch anymore. I was preparing for a spiritual experience. I got the sweet potato fries on the side and sat there waiting like a kid staring at the oven on Christmas morning. Then the sandwich arrived. And honestly? Visually, this thing deserved its own entrance music. Beautiful sandwich. Crispy golden chicken, stacked perfectly, looked like it had been assembled by a food stylist with relationship issues. I took the first bite and immediately realized what was wrong. Flavor had called in sick. The chicken itself was cooked perfectly. Great crunch. Juicy inside. Beautiful breading. But somehow nobody introduced it to salt, pepper, seasoning, spices, or joy. It tasted like the kitchen spent all their energy making it look incredible and forgot the whole "taste" portion of the assignment. My colleague ordered the exact same thing and had the exact same reaction, which honestly made me feel better because for a second I thought COVID had made a surprise comeback. The sandwich was one shake of Cajun seasoning away from greatness. The sweet potato fries were solid flavor-wise, but a little limp. Not tragic. Just lacking that crispness that makes you keep stealing fries after you're already full. This place feels like a really good concept that just needs somebody in the kitchen to become emotionally invested in seasoning. Three stars feels fair. Nothing was bad. Nothing offended me. It was just aggressively average after being introduced with Super Bowl-level hype. I'd come back, but next time I'm ordering an actual burger at the place called Baja Burger. Feels like that's probably the safer bet.
