Here is a small business that is lots of fun, mostly due to the owner Louise, who will entertain you with her witty comments! I had coffee with a friend here the other day and enjoyed myself. I had an ice mocha, which was fine. The pastries are not homemade that they appear to be from Costco, but the coffee was good and then there is a large menu of smoothies, etc. this place is tiny with maybe one or 2 tables inside and 2 tables outside. Don't do it. Coffee was strong and mediocre. But I got the $4.99 croissant with turkey and cheese and thought it tasted funny. Noticed the low quality ingredients and tried to shrug it off but I threw it up a few minutes later. The meat tasted bad and the cheese looked like straight up government cheese. read more

This is one of the sweetest little coffee places I've ever been to. The size of the space and welcoming attitude of the lady really makes it feel like you're in her house instead of a shop. All the standard syrups are available BUT there are some special/homemade (?) that are much thicker and unique. The pumpkin pie syrup basically looked like liquified pie and tasted amazing. Same with peppermint bark. The Kahlua Cake and Irish Cream Cake are made by her mother and taste exactly how you would expect them to after decades of experience. They're fluffy, light, full of flavor and big enough for two people to enjoy with their coffees. Be sure to add the tip BEFORE she runs your card! She's too polite to ask for one and deserves it more than most. read more

This is probably my favorite coffee shop in all of greater Sacramento. The woman who owns the spot is so kind and holds lovely conversations. It has such a homey vibe to the inside, I love the atmosphere. Not to mention, the coffee she makes.... Just Yes, yummy, and so good!!! I'm a coffee enthusiast, so I grow picky on my brews and drinks. She has never disappointed. She even messed up on a drink once and the mistake was even amazing tasting. This spot is ran by a lovely business owner and barista all in one. I would really recommend!! She also sells little cakes that are homemade by her mother (I believe thats who she said) and they're super yummy. I haven't had the sandwich's or other food options offered, so I'm unsure how those are. Nonetheless, I do not mind driving to Citrus Heights just for coffee if it's from Java Cherry!! It almost seems as if the small, independent coffee shops are few and far between. And when I mean small, we're talking about a one-person owned and operated business that's tucked in a residential area in the suburbs. That is just what you'll find at "Java Cherry" and this place has got to be one of Citrus Heights hidden gems that is definitely worth checking out. Located directly on Van Maren Ln (and about 50 feet from busy Auburn Blvd.), the easiest way to find Java Cherry is that its within walking distance to 7-Eleven and directly across the street from a Rite Aid. Truth be told is that I live less than 1/2 mile from this place and I drive past it every single day on my way to my job in Roseville. And I have always asked myself why I didn't come here sooner? As I previously mentioned in the first paragraph, Java Cherry is a one-person show that is owned by Louise. She has been in operation since 2012 and has made some very unique drink offerings ever since. Her hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 5am-6pm, Saturday from 6am-4pm, and closed on Sunday. My lovely lady and I decide on coming here on a Saturday afternoon around 3:00pm as we both finally want to see what this place is all about. Upon entering, you feel as if you stepped into someone's living room from a bygone era. There are lovely and stylish chairs and sofas as well as some quirky pictures with quotes throughout. Do keep in mind that this place is small, very small where you can only fit no more than 5 of 6 people total. There also is no Wi-Fi here; the main focus is to actually engage in human conversation by putting your smartphones away! The menu speaks for itself; I would have to say that there are over 100 customizable drinks that are offered. You get your basic house coffees, lattes, mochas, espressos, frappes, teas, and hot chocolates but there are a ton of different syrups & sauces to add to any drink. Some of the out-of-the-ordinary offerings I saw were marshmallow, peppermint patty, bourbon caramel, peanut butter, and cupcake. I think of this place being more of a coffee/smoothie shop since many shops don't have such an elaborate assortment as Java Cherry does. As it was our first time experience for both my lady and I, we decide to keep it simple. I order a 16 oz. white mocha frappe while she goes for a 16 oz. iced vanilla latte. Total price is around $8.00 (including tax) which is still a couple bucks less than the big boy stores (such as Starbucks and Peet's). The white mocha frappe was delicious and not too overbearingly sweet. The iced vanilla latte also had very delicious flavor that she enjoyed. One thing that won me over is that Louise spoke to us as one of her regular customers. Her conversation was so relaxing and humble by making the whole experience that much better. Overall, Java Cherry is an independent coffee shop definitely worth checking out. And if you're in a hurry, you can call ahead your order and Louise will have it ready for you. There is also a preferred coffee card; purchase 10 drinks and get the 11th free. Finally, she has a Facebook and Twitter page where you can see many more of her unique drink selections. All in all, this is a place I will definitely start coming to and considering its right down the street from my house, I'll be back very soon! read more

That's right it was Donovan's... Rated highly at 4.5 stars I thought I should give it try and I'm glad I did so. This coffee shop is located next to 7-eleven tucked a short distance off Van Maren & Auburn Blvd. As I walked in I was greeted by the sweet lady over at the cashier which I think it is the owner. On my first try I ordered a hot Large Caramel Macchiato at $4.50 The sweetness was spot on (not too sweet) and the coffee balance was perfect and it didn't overpower the caramel flavor. Love coming to this place. It has a cozy feeling to it and the owner is very kind and PAITENT about how you want your coffee. I always want a million things done to my coffee and she is never visibly frustrated with me like I've seen at other places. At first sight; It looks like a traditional coffee shop with traditional drinks but if you look deeper, Louis actually has a creative and open mind when it comes to her drinks. She keeps staples but always has something new to try every season which keeps things interesting! She offers a lot of options for just one shop. For coffee she offers decaf and numerous sugar free syrups usually at most shops they only have SF Vanilla and maybe Caramel or Mocha if you're lucky. She has teas, Italian sodas, hot chocolate,exc. For the milks animal and plant milks are available. She also has chips, mini desserts, water, and premier protein shakes. I would encourage you not listen to the negative reviews and give Louis a chance for yourself. I've been there multiple times when there was a gang of people, and when it was nobody but me, and she treats everyone the same with PAITENTS and kindness. @ Amie : On the day you went to Java Cherry , as you could probably see on the huge sign posted outside, they were celebrating Java Cherry's 3rd anniversary. That was a super busy day and maybe that's why you had to wait in line . We've been going there for the last 3 years, so there's absolutely now way it is always closed as you say, we stop there every week on our trip to the library, as my kids really love Louise. (besides, the hours are posted on the door, it is only closed on Sundays) . As for the drink being disgusting....then that means that coffee is disgusting. ;) One of the awesome things about Java Cherry is that you can make your own drink, you can choose flavors,sweetness, mix/blend them etc. I think you should give it another try, on a normal day when you don't have to wait in line ;) read more

Super cute little coffee shop located right behind 7-Eleven off Van Maren Ln. A very relaxed and homey feel hole in the wall shop. When you walk in, there's a small shelf filled with books for your enjoyment. A counter with a microwave for your use, cute couches and chairs to relax in. Small selection of store bought pastries and home made goods. Definitely try the homemade Irish Cream cake, the lady at the counter shared that her mother home made it. So delicious, absolutely amazing, it was so rich and creamy. Friendly service. Get your card punch and leave it there or take it with you, but buy 10 drinks and get your 11th free. Having seen the somewhat negative review I wanted to chime in for clarification for anyone who bought the living social or amazon local. By the way, they are the same. Amazon local often has living social deals listed under their site. First, the latte was GREAT and the owner is a truly nice lady. At first, I was very put off by the deal, but that was because of some confusion on the part of living social on how the deal should have been listed. In reality, it is a FANTASTIC deal in my opinion. The deal, as the owner thought it would be listed, should have been 5 large coffees and 5 large muffins for $7, which normally would cost $15. Stop for a second and realize that is a killer deal. A large coffee is 24 oz and the muffin, while a sam's club muffin, is easily worth a couple dollars. To get 5 rounds of this for $7 is amazing. It was also supposed to say that this needs to be used over 5 trips, which is why she is giving the extra coupons for future purposes. The confusion is because, for us groupon/living social folks, $7 for $15 means we expect to spend $15 all in one sitting. For her, when we come in and try to order lattes or other espresso drinks, she is thinking it is going to be a big loss. Imagine giving away 5 large lattes and 5 muffins for $7! What she allows is for you to pay the extra cost of the latte, which is still a steal because the coffee is great. I hope this helps clear it up for future customers. It is a great little shop and I would hate for her generosity to turn into negative reviews simply due to confusion over how to write up the living social. My one recommendation for Eloise if she does read this is to find a local bakery for the muffins and that would just put it over the top! I hate writing bad reviews. I found out about Java Cherry via Living Social. At first, the owner wanted to rewrite the terms of the Living Social having worded her offer in a misleading way. (I apparently bought credits toward house coffee and pastry, not any menu item.) Each time I've visited, coffee carafes are either missing or empty. The owner(?) does not know how to brew coffee (I know, right?!). There is not a Serv-Safe notice posted anywhere. Nor is there a business permit. The barista did not wash her hands or the shot glasses between espresso pulls. She also touches the rim of the served container with her fingers (pet peeve.) The barista does not know how to make an "Americano" (Hint: it's more than one shot espresso to 20oz water!) The muffins and pastries are bought from Sam's Club - the lowest quality crap out there. Their "house" brand is "Vannetti" (sp?) and tastes like the coffee you find at Firestone while waiting for your tires. If you want cheap coffee near Van Maren, your best bet is the 7-Eleven next door. read more

What a great little coffee shop. In a world of sterile coffee distribution centers, this is a throwback to when cafes were ubiquitous. Places like this are hard to find. Some people, as evidenced in a few reviews, don't like places like this. Their loss. (BTW, judging the quality of a coffee shop by sampling their vanilla soy latte? Give me a break.) Very tasty products, a fine cup of espresso. High quality, locally roasted coffee beans that are treated correctly, so that you get a good, robust flavor, not burnt bitterness like to make other spots provide.
