While visiting the area, we decided to check out Javateas. I am sure this place is pretty awesome in the summer time, but it was a pretty good hang out spot on a very cold Sunday morning. The place was clean, trendy, and staff was friendly. We ordered a flight of coffee. I wish they were bigger, especially since we get twice as much in the flights in our city. Other than that, we were both fans of the flavor choices in each of the coffee/tea drinks in our flight. Both our breakfast items were good too. I was a huge fan of my BLTA in croissant. We also loved to just hang out and enjoy everything before our long drive back to NY. we'd highly recommend visiting here if in the area, especially with the limited number of cafes open on a Sunday. read more

It's been a few years since I was last here. I hate to say the salad quality definitely went down and also extremely expensive for what you get. The young staff didn't pay much attention to us and did not get the order correct. The baked goods and sandwiches look great. If I go back I would get a sandwich or something else. I got the south west quinoa bowl, which cost $11 and amounted to 3 forkfuls of rice/beans and about a teaspoons worth of avocado. Beautiful establishment. Great food/coffee. Must see on a cool, fall day with the outdoor porch seating. One half is coffee/food. Other side is whiskey/cocktail bar. PS - I stopped for lunch and had a great wrap with tortilla chips. The side salsa was not good though. I gave it a little taste as it was a solid nope. It didn't matter because I enjoyed the chips and wrap. I got a latte and sat at a high top table on a beautiful afternoon and got some work done on my laptop. We were passing through and were excited to stop in after our visit last year, but this time we had a much different experience when it came to quality. I don't remember the specific drinks we had this time, but one was barely sweet and you couldn't taste any of the flavors it was supposed to have, and the other was like drinking sugar. My sister suggested coming here after hearing such great reviews. I'm SO glad we met here for lunch the other day! It was a bit tricky to find as I'm not overly familiar with this place (attached to a distillery). There's quite a bit of parking. It was super clean inside and very inviting. Different types of tables (high tops and standards) as well as a lounge area with leather chairs/sofa and tables. It was just a good amount of space to accommodate the customers that had come in during our duration (about two hours). The staff was incredibly friendly and very quick to get drinks and food out. I started with the mango refresher as well as the mushroom & goat cheese flatbread. WOW! Best mango refresher I've had in so long. Way better than any Starbucks one I've had. I also grabbed a pumpkin chai latte later on which was piping hot and delicious! My sister got the grilled ham and Brie sandwich. The raspberry jam spread on it was so good! I absolutely loved the ambience and cannot wait to go back to try more menu items. I thought prices were fair considering how big portions were as well as how fresh the food was. After I complained, they brought out my nachos but No wings yet ... after complaining again the nice girl who had just come in apologized and got me my wings 72 minutes after ordering... that were discusting... It's not every day you will find someone who is willing to drive an hour just for coffee, but I saw they had coffee flights and I had to go try them. First order of business...the name. It is pronounced ja-VAH-tees, not JAVA-teas. It took me a while to figure that one out...ok, enough linguistics... I've been stopping by Javateas since their opening, and I've never had a bad cup of coffee there. Generally, there are several blends ready to go...grab a cup, fill 'er up, and pay out. Coffee is great; "Snickerdoodle" is the ol' reliable. For those who need some calories with their caffeine, breakfast egg/bacon/cheese sandwiches, wraps, bagels, pastries from Auchenbach, muffins and scones are available. The food is quite tasty, and it tastes even better when time affords the chance to sit and enjoy the atmosphere. It's casual, tasteful, though not cavernous...I'd guess about 10 tables and a small sofa seating area are available. My only food gripe would be that it seems that the Ephrata Hospital Javateas eatery commandeers some of the food, including the unparalleled white chocolate and raspberry scones. Drats. Mamma said I should have been a doctor! Baristas? Awesome. Friendly, polite, efficient, and able to whip some good food together. The other admirable aspect of this cafe is their penchant for community service. There are always flyers to let you know what good things are being done in the community, and you genuinely feel that the owners have attempted to make an impact in the community...not just through caffeine and baked goods. I started to really like this place but unfortunately my parties last experience was not a good one at all. The staff needs serious customer service training. The cashier Hopelynn, was blatantly rude to my partner and I. I tried to customize my drink and she was not having it, She exhaled and said "now I have to make it" and when I said nevermind due to feeling like a burden, she said "well, easier for me I won't complain"..... Cold brew was the worst I've had. I tried it because my usual stop wasn't open and I really wanted a cold brew coffee. It was horrible - I couldn't bring myself to drink it. I've had things in the past off the food menu and it's been good. Their bubble tea pretty good. The entire staff needs to step up their game in the customer service area. Every time I have been in it seems as though they are being inconvenienced to take my order. I think it starts at the top with the owner as she is always unfriendly and comes off slightly rude. Subpar espresso: watered down, too hot and reminds me more of a strong drip coffee than real espresso. Decent aesthetic but the ceiling tiles and napkin containers really took me out of it. This store is small and does not offer much privacy nor leg room. They have other locations which I have not visited. I have been here a few times and ordered specialty coffees and lattes. This place features: poor service, mediocre coffee, and a rude owner. BUT. The most off-putting thing about this cafe is the bizarre atmosphere. I'll admit to only being in here about 4 times in the past, but I just can't get over the ambience...it reminds me of the kind of cafe you'd find in one of those creepy mega churches (™?). It feels like when no one is looking, the people there start swaying to the Christian music that this place always place.
