I think a party of 13 should have a dedicated waiter especially since gratuity is included. On the most part it was fine that our waiter had several other tables but as his tables filled up, it was harder to get him for drinks, the dessert menu or the check. Not his fault but management shouldn't set things up like that. It probably delayed us 30 min which is a lot after a long day. Also, some of our menus had discrepancies. Like one would say the protein was filet mignon and another would say skirt steak. My Seafood pasta was awesome tho but didn't have the garnishes that everyone has on there pics here on yelp. The servers are very attentive and are constantly passing by to refill beverages and chips/salsa. The wait time for the food is never too long either. However, we went this weekend and the price increases are just over the top. I am all about paying quite a bit for a good meal but the prices have just gone beyond reasonable. $20 for a margarita and $70 for a trio of ceviche is just beyond. read more

Great experience, great atmosphere! I had the Trio de Enchiladas Del Mar and it was amazingly delicious. It was like 3 treats in one, as each enchilada was prepared in it's own unique way. Crowded. Noisy. They took my guest's plate before he'd finished. They brought me a box when I was only half way done and I hadn't asked for a box. Obviously , they were rushing us out. A huge party arrived as we were walking out, so I guess they were more important. When the couple next to us wanted to leave we had to get up, move our table, and theirs so they could get out....the tables were ridiculously close together. So don't bother eating on the patio unless you're a stick figure. I don't know if I liked the food or not. I was too distracted trying to hear what my guest was saying over the noise...everyone talking loud and the servers banging silverware. Nope. Horrible experience. I love Mexican food, but there are many great places in the area, so won't be back. read more

Since the initial restaurant opened in Laguna Beach, Javier's has been a favorite amongst my family and friends. But the times change and after one last meal this past weekend I don't think there will ever be another. Javier's has become an absurdly expensive restaurant and there are simply too many better options now. After recent changes to their menu you can now pay $42 for two a la carte enchiladas. Yes, you read that right...Javier's is paving the way for all Mexican restaurants to charge extra for everything including rice and beans. The same rice and beans that have accompanied the same entrées since 1995. Wouldn't be surprised if they begin charging for chips and salsa in the near future. It's just silly greed and blatant disregard for presenting value to their customers. The fact that they opened a restaurant in Las Vegas should have warned me away sooner. Maybe they will open a Disneyland location next. Adios Javier. read more

Uhhhh No Reservations is there down fall. When you call women who answer are rude and can't answer questions. I still came in for drinks but noticed such a rise in prices. It's a good ambience and waiter was nice overall it's ok like I said if you don't mind paying for overpriced Mexican food. Enjoy! read more

Experience was definitely ruined by the host staff. We had a reservation for NYE on Saturday. Initially there were 2 gentleman at the stand. At 7:45pm I ask the guys how much longer and he said shortly. At around 8:00 a young lady was now at the stand. I hear every name she called as we were standing right in front of stand. At 8:15 I approached her and ask when we were going to be seated? I was annoyed but was looking forward to our meal. She went to tell me she called our name and it wasn't her fault. Mind you we were standing in front of her the whole time. I told her there was no way she called my name and she then says she's not going to put up with my aggressiveness. That shocked me as I had remained calm and collective. She was so rude when I wasn't even upset about the situation. After she's upset about having to add me to list again she says maybe it was bc the was my name was spelled! My name is Gloria. That didn't make sense. Javier's is a Mexican located in the Spectrum City, I found it to be a mixed bag, so ill review this way. Pros: The food is good. No doubt about it. Cabo Azul was MORE than filling with the Lobster Enchiladas dropping the people's elbow on your taste buds. Plenty of food, with leftovers. The salsa that came with the chips was delicious and addictive! The drinks are on point, check out the other Yelper's reviews. This is a great place for a meal with a special person, I think the atmosphere is on par with Habana in Costa Mesa. Zillions of candles, and its pitch dark at night. Cons: I wasn't there with my special person lol, so the dark was IRRITATING. They should have areas that aren't as candlelit. :) We are in southern California. If you cant find this for cheaper than tsk tsk on you. You are paying a little extra for the candles and the name, just be aware. I'mma show you how to turn it up a notch First you get a swimming pool full of liquor, then you dive in it Pool full of liquor, then you dive in it" (Lines from Swimming Pools, Kendrick Lamar) I came here recently to help send my friend off - He's moving to San Jose to be w/ his future wife. The only problem is that we didn't know whether to play the Queen classic: Another One Bites the Dust, or break out our trumpets and play Taps. Since no one had downloaded the song and he is not military, we decided to drown him in a "swimming pool" of drinks - LOL!!! In addition to all the Bohemias, Dos Equis, Pacificos, Maragaritas and Tequila shots (Yes, we had designated drivers), we ordered Ceviche de Camarones y Pulpo ($14 each), Quesadilla de Pollo ($12), Mixed Taco Platter ($20) and Taquitos ($9). The food was pretty good. Both ceviches were super fresh and a decent sized portion for the price: 4 Stars. The quesadilla was OK. It was good sized but nothing special: 3 Stars. The tacos were very good. There was a lot of nicely seasoned carne asada and pollo inside. The taquitos were very good also. They were not fried rock hard like a lot of places, but at $3 each, they are expensive: 3.5 Stars for both types of tacos. Please note that this is not a place to go for authentic Mexican, or for a bargain. You come here for the ambiance, the service (oh yeah, there is another reason too!!!). The ambiance is very nice. The restaurant is located by the valet at the Irvine Spectrum. The two outdoor patios face out towards the Spectrum for great people watching. And the last reason is because, I have hollared and I have been hollared at many times at this location. Note: This is not a good place for a date unless you are breaking up: 5 Stars. The service is always excellent here. My friends and I have come to know the waitresses fairly well. On this occasion, Armida was our waitress. She is super nice and handled our 8 person group w/ flying colors: 5+++ Stars. Despite the mixed food reviews I still give this place 5 Stars because of the service and ambiance. BTW, another reason I gave Armida 5+++ Stars is because she made me break the WAMB rule. I never hollared at her before because of her profession and she had a bf. This time, I jokingly asked her if she dumped him. Surprisingly, she said that she had. But she surprised me further and asked me, where I have been and when can we go out: How about that??? We have been to multiple Javier's locations and the Irvine location has the freshest and by far the most authentic flavors! The service is always top notch here as well, however this time we had the pleasure of meeting Miguelon, he was so attentive and knowledgeable. He answered our questions about ingredients and flavors and was able to give us a little history on Javier's itself. It's amazing to learn the kitchen is ran by 5 people and they are able to put out such incredible dishes. Well worth the money in our opinion. read more

This place is overpriced. I went with the lunch healthy heart special, which consisted of spanish rice and pinto beans, and 2 chicken soft tacos. The chicken soft taco was just a tortilla with some diced chicken and guacamole. It was a major disappointment at $12. It didn't have much flavor to it. Also, this is supposed to be a heart healthy item, yet when I asked the waiter what is spanish rice. He said it is a red tomato based riced. So I asked him further it is vegetable based then. He said, yes, but it's cooked in LARD. THE RICE IS COOKED IN LARD!!! ANd this is supposed to be a heart healthy item. If you don't eat pork, you can request white rice. They should have had a brown rice option. I certainly won't be visiting this place in the future. read more

It seems like Javier's is a hard place not to keep coming back to. I know I've given them 3 stars before but after another visit with my girlfriends and I, I believe they earned another star. Let me tell you why... 1. It's a beautiful and glamorous place. I love the ambiance, the decor, the dim lighting, the fire torches, the patio seating where you can people watch, and the interior seating where you can dine with style. 2. Their endless chips are addicting especially with their fantastic salsa that has a nice heat to it. 3. It's hard to resist not ordering their GUACAMOLE because it's rather spectacular! 4. The POLLO A LA CHIPOTLE and STEAK PICADO remains my two favorites here. 5. I recently tried their OSSO BUCCO which was perfectly seasoned. The meat was falling-off-the-bone-tender! Tasty, tasty! So if you do the math, now I have 3 favorites here. 6. Their RE-FRIED BEANS are undoubtedly bad but sensationally delicious. 7. I love their sangria but I wish I could say my wallet does, too. For $75 a pitcher, it's pretty darn steep! I think the area they should really work on is SERVICE. It has improved from the last time I was here, I'll give them that...BUT, towards the end of our meal, our server was MIA. All our water glasses were empty and we couldn't find anyone to flag down. Nonetheless, everything else went well that evening, still giving us a positive dining experience. 4 stars it is. I know I'll be coming back here again. The jalapeño margarita with Tajin rim is so flavorful. For the entree, I recommend the enchiladas with tomatillo sauce or the Cabo Azul. Can't go wrong with Tres Leche or Flan for dessert. Ask for Teresa, such a knowledgeable and delightful waitress! read more

Everyone needs a Javier experience in their lifetime, I'm so glad yesterday was MY day! From the front entrance, Javier's gave off such a magical, curiosity that I knew I just had to try... Huge plus is that we were seated right away, at the perfect table located on their outdoor patio overlooking the Irvine Spectrum! Within minutes our server took our drink orders and brought out fresh chips and their house salsa, in which I must say has the perfect amount of creeper spice to it. For an appe, we ordered the house guacamole ($10) - I HIGHLY recommend this appe to anyone and everyone when they come to Javier's! This Guac is nothing like I've ever had before. There was so much flavor with every bite, yet the Guac was very light and airy... SO GOOD! For our main dish, my hubs and I shared The Trio which included 3 hearty enchiladas: 1 crab, 1 lobster and 1 shrimp. Of the 3, our favorite filling was the lobster, alllllll the way! I also ordered a side of Spanish rice, which again is probably the best rice I've ever had! I can't stop raving to our friends and family bout the wonderful experience we had, to the moment we walked in... To the time we stepped out. The bathrooms have actual attendants in them that give you soap and a hand towel, super funcy! It seems that the owner of this establishment truly hit every detail out of the park, therefore the result of our visit was a home run!!! Javier, Javier!! We dined here because my coworker wanted to visit as this was one of the hangout for The Real Housewives of Orange County. I think it is located at a private room for exclusivity if you will, towards the restroom area!!! If you are looking for authentic Mexican, or you've had your share of travels through Mexico like I have, you will know right away that Javier is designed more for the American "Gringo" Mexican lover. It reeks suburbia especially when it is located in a strip mall, right next to a movie theater. That should be a first giveaway. Grant it and after all that words of introduction, this Asian dude writing this review went out of his way to check them out anyway. I'm not going to sugar coat it but their Chile Negro that comes with tender Angus short ribs, braised in Chile Negro sauce was surprisingly, fantastic for only $30. Meat was falling of the bone and was bursting with flavors. My coworker also swore that her enchiladas was the best. I differ of course because the best I've had came from food trucks, But I'm going to give Javier, Javier a 3.5 stars for trying. Overall, not bad if you are looking to impress your date, or bring friends and family for a more fusion Mexican with a glam style, and a movie after; then Javier would be the place for you. Anniversary dinner with hubby. He knew taking me for Mexican Food would earn him extra points and it did! I have always enjoyed Javier's salsa. It's one of my favorite. We decided to order the La Tablita with chicken and steak. First off the service was excellent. We never once ran out of water. They were on top of any need we might have. When the main entree attraction arrived the presentation was overwhelming. Lots of food and displayed nicely on a giant board/tray - hence Tablita. Everything was delicious. With an appetizer or two this could definitely be shared amongst 4 adults easy. We are looking forward to our next visit. read more

I'm so sad and very disappointed I've dined at Javier's for 30 years and I always order the same dish because it was delicious. Javier's was my favorite restaurant but not anymore.It seems like every time I visit the price has increased for the exact same menu item I usually just shrug it off but this time is the last time. I can't believe they took away the rice and beans from the enchiladas plate. Sorry to say they finally lost me. How can you take the small portion away and charge an additional $12. The restaurant is always clean and the ambiance is calm and relaxed. However, I attempted to make reservations and I was informed that my party needed to order from a specific menu starting at $75 per person or spend a minimum of $2,000. I was very saddened and disappointed that I wouldn't be able to celebrate my event at one of my favorite restaurants. read more
