I was in the neighborhood, hungry and in a hurry. I hadn't heard anything about Jax before entering, but was very pleasantly surprised by the experience. The food was good, served fast, the portions large and the prices reasonable. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries and a beer; my companion the chicken quesadilla. My burger was very good, large well seasoned patty, with a generous amount of thick bacon and all the fix'ns on the side. The fries were hot, crisp and plentiful. The quesadillas were packed with chicken and melted cheese served with plenty of sour cream and guacamole, very tasty. I will definitely be eating here again. read more

Max was one of the first places I went to when I moved to houston. I always take people here for a good lunch. They have a wide variety of foods everything from chicken fried steak to shrimp salad. I don't think I've ever had anything bad here before. Their specials are awesome as well! read more

Ordered Lunch today from their Specials for the day of which I thought I was getting a Club Sandwich and I got a Hamburger bun with hot cheese and meats. I've gone here for years, and the food is usually very good, fresh, and served up fast. The burgers are great, and the portions are large. Great for lunch or a place to take guests. Don't go Friday or Sat. nites unless you like crowds, or live music. It gets very noisy, and you won't even hear regular conversation. I've taken many visitors here and they love it. The bar is small, and the drinks seem to be reasonable. I don't drink so don't quote me. For the price and location, you can't do much better. Parking can be tricky so go early or between lunch and dinner. read more

I am so happy we found Jax...the food is awesome...the fajitas, the spinach crab enchiladas, the filet, the wings, the drinks...so good. We have gone twice and both times we left there smiling and satisfied.Both Times the Bartenders made us feel like family and the drinks were yummy and made with love (wink). Music WAY too loud for indoors. Had to scream my order to the cashiers. Couldn't hear our number when food was ready..obviously has been sitting for a while and was warm at best. Onion rings and CFS undercooked. Won't be going back any time soon. What a shame..the food and atmosphere used to be enjoyable. Tone down the music so people can actually carry on a conversation. There are way too many options in the immediate vicinity. I enjoy live music but this was over kill, even sitting outside. read more

Our office orders take out there several times a week. Today I ordered the fish and chips. It comes with fries and hush-puppies, everything was over cooked .... almost burnt. I have noticed this several times before on our previous orders. It seems the cooks do not care if you are getting it to go, once you get back to the office what are you going to do with it. The food used to be really good and generous here, but they are not consistent. I just ordered the chicken quesadillas to go and was really disappointed to find pretty tasteless quesadillas and about a tablespoon of guacamole (they used to give you enough to fill the little plastic container it comes in). This rating is for their burgers. We came here once for a farewell get together with a bunch of coworkers, and I have been hooked ever since. You know that one hole in the wall bar that looks like &$?@ but makes a MEAN burger that you spend the rest of your days trying to experience again? Jax absolutely has this down. I get my burger well done and add cheese and bacon (and hell, make it a double when I'm feeling super gordo)- they are generous with their portions, and the bacon is always plentiful, crispy, and charred at the very edges just like the burger. I love coming in here after a lame day at work, and they never judge me for looking like a square or for ordering a giant gooey crispy cheeseburger in a business skirt! The staff is cool, so are the beers, and the food is off the chain. I will definitely be back! Be sure to check it out someday. read more

Jax Grill is a great, dependable place to eat. The variety of food is excellent - from burgers to seafood to salads to pasta - they have it all. The kitchen is quick, the prices are reasonable & you can carry on a conversation without yelling. On weekend nights...it's a little different . They have great live zydeco music on Fridays & Saturday nights - then you can NOT talk .. but you can sure enjoy great music & food...if you can find parking. Jax is one of my favorites! read more

I've come here right after running at Memorial Park just for the chips and queso. If you order the burger, order it at least a medium. Medium rare is pretty blah. Zydeco music is great during the weekends. It's definitely worth a visit. read more

I've eaten at Jax a few times and it was pretty good. Nothing to write home about, but then last night we decided to order dessert because it was my son's birthday. We ordered Jax Sack - the edible bag. It was AMAZING. It was this chocolate square bag stuffed with shortbread, strawberries and some wonderful sauce. It was topped with whipped cream and ganache. The bag was on a huge plate and it was surrounded by this great toffee like sauce with more artfully placed dollops of whipped creme and chocolate shavings. We were just blown away with it. As I was walking it to our table, there was a collective "ohhhhh" from the other customers. I highly recommend it! read more

You order up front and there is a huge menu. It can get really loud on Fridays with the live music. I've been more than once and the food was always out quick. The soup has been hit or miss, but the burgers, salads, and nachos have always been great. read more

I have gone here for lunch for several years, and some week nights, and we love it. While I have heard complaints of some entrees, I usually stick to grilled trout (fantastic, and a great buy) or catfish. I love the crab cakes with jalapeno sauce, mango salsa on the fish, the grilled chicken/pecan salad (make sure you request the raspberry viniagrette, made with pureed raspberries, and not too sweet), a seafood pasta too is good, as are the sweet potato fries and desserts. Sometimes the chef puts chopped garlic in with the sauteed veggies cooked al dente, if not just ask for it. The meals will usually come with a lot of food, and generally a slice of watermelon. We have taken a box of the fruit for an afternoon treat too, they are boxed to go at the front (next to those decadent desserts!). So the healthy food is very healthy, and delicious. Can't get enough!!! Let me tell you, ALWAYS get one of the specials. They are listed on the dry erase board in front of the waiting line (which never actually has a wait since they are so fast). Everything here I love down to the last little bit. I come here with my dad sometimes and a lot of the time with a group of friends. The vegetables can be so perfect so much of the time, and even though I'm not really a fan of veggies they are so good at Jax that lots of times I go there just for those and the delicious rice pilaf that comes with a lot of the specials. All their specials have been so GOOD. They have such a wide array of choices most of the time too, from American, Cajun, and Mexican styled Italian noodle dishes (yes, I mean all those styles in one), to almond crusted fried shrimp with delicious pineapple coconut sauce (I think that's probably what that sauce is) or delicious chicken salads with berries and all the works. If you order the right specials they also come with a watermelon slice and a bread roll. The coffee is always the best simply brewed coffee I've ever had, never burned, low quality or cold. You can buy a drink like a soda and then get a cup of coffee to have with it at no extra cost (there's a collection of mugs above the coffee). The desserts are delicious too. Even the cheap cream cheese brownies they have in the plate at the cash register are great (although they're never warm). There is a tiny, teenie problem with the cleanliness once in a while, but the food is SOOO good that I've never even thought of that problem even a little but until I read that review by that must be clean person. And even then I've never really had the problems he's described. Everybody I go with falls in love with the place too. Although it's more of a family style place, it's a perfect place for friends to hang out too. read more

I can honestly say that I have always been a huge fan Jax's food. We individually and as an office have been going here for a long time - but now, we won't be back. Our office spends quite a lot of money here eating lunches....however, now we truly know how they treat their customers. We called in our order and arrived for pickup. As you know the bags are there and stapled closed and ready to go. We grabbed the bag and left. Upon arriving back at the office, we realized we were missing all of our meals but one. We drove back to Jax and were given another bag that was to contain the rest of our meal, stapled closed. Arrived back at work but with still an item missing. We called the restaurant immediately and spoke with the manager letting her know our displeasure with not only having to make two trips but with them not acting as if it was no big deal. Our manager called back and was told that our meal would be credited back to our card and we would receive a full refund for our troubles. It has been two weeks, 3 phone calls and still no credit on the card. Sorry that Jax feels like they can treat their valued customers this way and think it is okay. Waiting on a refund.... read more

Was there today, workers rude, me and my daugher was eating worker came up and said you paid for water here and preceded to take my soda. Did not ask any questions and if he looked at the table he would have seen two cans of soda sitting there. I complained to management and she did not see anything wrong. All he had to do was ask a question and he would have gotten an answer instead of assuming we stole soda. When I placed my order I asked for two cups of ice not water. There are no signs saying you can not bring your own drink and when I called the other location they say you can bring your own soda and they hear so many complaints about the Shepherd location. But I guess as long as people keep coming management does not care whom they offend. The bottom line is do not accuse anyone of stealing unless you can prove it. Yes I refuse to eat there once this happened. Know your rights as customers. read more

have eaten here a few times. great food if you like flies on it. as i was standing by the order pick up waiting for my order i noticed that flies had were all over the food and food prep area. i mentioned it to the lady behind the counter and she shrugged her shoulders and said "nothing i can do". i called this morning to reserve a table for 13 and the lady on the phone laughed and said that i would have to pay for that table. i asked how much and she says "oh we only do that for our regulars". i will never step foot in this restaurant again and i hope the health dept. pays them a visit... read more
