This might sound dirty. The #1 reason why I go to this place is for Jax Sack. Something that apparently many regulars don't even know about, it's a $6 group dessert that is on par with many more expensive desserts at fancy restaurants, and here it is, all unassuming right alongside chicken fingers in the pick-up area. They use a paper bag as a mold and paint it with chocolate, remove the paper, fill with layers of cake/cream/berries, top with cream/berries/chocolate sauce, and serve. It's huge- your friends' eyes will widen as you take the provided steak knife and knock it over. 4 forks will destroy it immediately, food babies to follow. The #2 reason to come here: Zydeco Fridays-- great little live band, packed dance floor, happy crowd, and free! It's loud on Friday nights so while I wouldn't plan on having an intimate conversation, I'd bring my dancingpantz. read more

The place is small but the food is awesome. They have massive desserts with a price to match. The overall place is clean, staff very friendly and office price is in between average & pricey. Jax is a really fun place to have a bite, chat & relax. They have great zydeco bands on the weekend. This makes for awesome crowd watching or a way to show your skills on the dance floor. The food is pretty decent as well as the drinks. The fried catfish & fry stack are a couple things I really like. It can be hit or miss at times, but luckily I've had more hits than misses. And by misses I mean flavor wise. Daily specials are a good deal & they've got happy hour deals as well. Portion wise it's ok, but your bill can add up pretty quickly due to add ons. Haven't had trouble with service for the most part. I'd say if you come here evening/happy hour times, don't come if you're in a rush. Especially during the weekends. My father ordered a kids meal because he had already eaten prior to joining us and they charged him an extra $2.. which is ok but they didn't even tell us about the charge otherwise we would have probably not ordered anything for him. I was just here for a happy hour and I wasn't paying so keep that in mind while reading. The chips and salsa were alright and the queso is pretty good. I tried a flavored Margarita which is a frozen Margarita with flavoring at the bottom. That just seems odd, but once I stirred it together it was alright. I also tried the frozen hurricane which doesn't taste like much of anything, so perhaps good for some, but it doesn't live up to what I've had at Pat O'Brians. The one I'm wearing in my profile pic, so I appreciate knowing if I did lose something there they will hold on to it. The staff is friendly and the food is good. The interesting thing about Jax is that it seems it doesn't know if it wants to be a tasty unhealthy hamburger establishment or a healthy salad and salmon place. You really have to read the menu and the special daily menu as it's an odd mix and combination of food items. The food is good though, so I'll give them credit for that. I don't think I would like to eat inside, as it seems small, or just plain. Anytime I've been here, it's always been outside. The manager is good to work with as we've held speaker events here and even though it's outside, it's actually pretty manageable. Unfortunately, this place is out of the way for me, so it's not a place I immediately think of, but if I'm in that part of town or need to hold a fun event, that's a good place to try out. As long as you pull down the plastic shades, it should be okay. You would need your own speaker, mic, sound system, but considering how easy the manager is to work with, that's not a problem for me. I would definitely check this place out, because while nothing stands in particular food wise, it's all edible, tasty, and a decent option if you're lingering over in that area of Houston. Amazing variety of American food, plus some unique items typical of other cultures. Their burgers and chicken fried steak can't be beat for their cheap price. They also have gyros, enchiladas, Reuben sandwiches, and a variety of other daily specials. The bar is reasonably priced if you stick to beer. I get home open the package and they are tiny nothing like the size in Bellaire. I enjoyed Jax and will plan on coming back. The person at the counter was very nice and I enjoyed his interaction with us. I had the Chicken Fried Steak and Mashed Potatoes. The cream gravy was very good as was the batter on the steak. The meat was not tough, but had shrunk quite a bit during cooking, creating a lot of excess crust. The mashed potatoes were excellent needing no gravy. The potatoes were prepared with the skins left on just as I personally prefer. They were made with red potatoes. Very tasty! read more

I came here for dinner and ordered the fried chicken tender basket (Bellaire Basket). I ordered tenders and they were da bomb - very lightly breaded and good quality chicken. Most favorite place to order on DoorDash. My boyfriend and I order from here almost every week. They have a double meat burger that he loves and gets it every time. They have many options that I alternate with. My favorites are the gumbo and grilled shrimp with rice. The shrimps are a good size and grilled to perfection. Also yummy is their fried catfish which comes with hush puppies, fries and okra. The prices are ok. Considering we can afford to order off Doordash with them means if we picked up or at at the location it would be even cheaper since DD has all the fees for their delivery. We decided this year no cooking for Christmas- restaurants only for all family gatherings. I have 3 nieces/nephews who pretty much can only go someplace with a patio and room to run. I normally really despise counter service but here it worked. When placing our orders the girl taking our order recommended stuff and was very friendly. We all opted for burgers and I'm so glad I did. Big, juicy and the bun was perfection. Normally when dining out I don't eat bacon because it's almost never crispy but it was crispy and delicious. Let's talk about the patio. It is huge and HEATED. Yes, for those few times it's cold in Houston they have a heating system. The kids ran wild and had a great time. This is an ok place. There was a live Zydeco band and they were great. The only downside is that the band stopped playing at 9:45 and the place actually closes at 11p. We were asked to move by the police officer from the patio to the inside of the restaurant as the patio closes at 10p and the workers needed to clean. I thought that was a bit strange considering the fact that they closed in an hour and could very well clean up then. We were there celebrating a graduation and the inside was way too crowded. We just decided to hurry up and finish our drinks and leave. My exposure to Zydeco music and Creole food is fairly limited but Jax makes me wanna go back again and again. First of all, I love that live music and that patio. Now, granted it can get incredibly loud in there, it's still that high energy you need to keep the night going. Jax's is a large, half-pound patty, machine formed from above-average ground beef. Sadly, it appears to have been frozen, and the juiciness suffers because of this. But it's grilled, and picks up a nice flavor in the process. Condiments are high quality and plentiful, and the bun is just right.
