Unfortunately what started out as a great experience turned out to be a "horrible" one. I am a very loyal guy when it comes to people and establishing relationships. I'm not the easiest guy to deal with but I have very high expectations. Long story long the set up.....I moved to Gig Harbor from Seattle and tried a few hair stylist in the area but was not satisfied with the experience so continued to drive back and forth ( 1-2 hr round trip) to get my haircut. I finally found Hannah and frankly she was terrific. I was so relieved and continued to see her for quite a while but I did miss a few appointments which I was unintentional but is bad form I know.... Also, of course I was happy to pay for missing them. The story..... Jax moved to a new bld and are expanding their services so I went to the open house (which was madness by the way) it took me an hr and a half but I booked a few services ( $500.00 worth ) along with a hair cut with Hannah. That day my dog had to go to the vet so I missed the appointments ( although again I told then they found charge me) unfortunately I was told the receptionist that Hannah was "DONE" no "MORE) and was firing me as a client (first time for everything I guess) but she wouldn't even come to the phone sadly Anyway, I asked for the manager and was told by the receptionist (actually) I believe Hanna told her to tell me I could not talk the them ....So.... I continued and asked for the owners name and again was told no. I know this seems like a small deal but... I've never been so disappointed or rejected in all my yrs of dealing with any company as this is just not representative of what a customer service or customer facing company should do.... Bottom line....yes Hannah is a fabulous and fantastic hairstylist but...... she or a young girl taking appts should not be able to treat loyal guests who live in the community with such disregard and disrespect. On 4/4/26 I scheduled an appointment online with Stephanie, the Salon Lead, at Jax Luxury Salon in Gig Harbor. The appointment was scheduled for 4/29/26 as this was her first opening. On 4/7/26 I received a phone call from Sofia confirming my appointment. And because I was a new client Sofia had some questions for me regarding my appointment with Stephanie which I gladly answered. She even gave me a special price for a new client. Eleven days after scheduling my appointment on the afternoon of 4/15/26, I received a voicemail from Liz who said that she was calling regarding the "web appointment" I made and that Stephanie does not do men's haircuts; so the time and stylist would need to be changed. I called them right back and received an answering machine, so I left a message asking who she would like to switch me to as she didn't say on the voicemail. I also let them know that I feel that calling me almost two weeks after the appointment was made and after I spoke with Sofia where I answered all her questions, that someone should have informed me before today that the stylist I booked with would not being doing my haircut. This is very unprofessional and for a supposed high-end Aveda Salon I am surprised, especially since I didn't receive a call back. I do not recommend Jax Luxury Salon. read more

I have been a loyal Aveda client for almost 20 years both in the U.S. and U.K. and of all those salons, Jax is the best! I mean that wholeheartedly. I have been a client of Jax for 4 years. There is always a warm, professional welcome as soon as you enter the salon. However, my absolute favorite person at the salon is the most talented, and creative stylist I've ever met, and that's Hannah. She is exceptional! From the very first time we met, and to this day, Hannah has been incredibly attentive, thoughtful, and technically accurate in styling and coloring my hair. Hannah keeps up with the latest trends and recommends appropriate products for my hair type. Hannah is such a lovely person. I always really look forward to my appointment and enjoy my time at the salon. I leave her skillful, caring hands feeling like a new person. read more

It is okay. If I was desperate for a haircut I guess this would be my choice by logistic desirability only. Mediocre ambience, feels like I am in someone's basement. Not very pleasant front of house. Withered, neglected plants in the window. Maybe they have been cared for since my visit a while ago. Its typical Gig Harbor - just nice enough to think they are amazing but overall pretty lacking. This review is LONG overdue... where to start... I was getting married this past August 21 and booked my appointment like April 2nd, for hair and makeup. In late June, early July, as we're beginning to start hair and makeup consultations, my appointments with Jax got canceled by a manager...twice. Upset, I reached out to the owner of Jax, Jack, and oh my gosh... he fixed EVERYTHING. He hired someone new (the stylist that was supposed to do my hair moved out of the state) that was absolutely fabulous, and he literally handled the entire process from start to finish and was there to welcome me when I walked in the door. Jack- you're incredible... thank you for going above and beyond to fix a prior, disastrous situation! To my girls, Jamie (hair) and Sierra (esthetician) - not only are you two of the most talented people I've ever worked with, but you became my sanctuary as the craziness of wedding planning ramped up and more and more things kept going wrong (lol). Because of you, I was able to come in and completely decompress with you both, and you doubled as therapists and I love you both for it! The morning of my wedding started out a wreck, and you two turned it around and helped me in more ways than you know. What was truly amazing was that you both really, really cared. Booked an appointment for eyebrow threading online. Get a call literally 10 minutes before I was supposed to leave saying they don't offer that service, even though I could book it online. They offered to do a waxing, which I was fine with, but then they couldn't even keep the same appointment time and I couldn't make any other time that day. Even though I already had an appointment. They also had 3 days to call and tell me this after I booked the service. And they didn't even leave a voicemail when they called so I would have just showed up and wasted my time if I didn't call them back. Disappointing. read more

Talented professionals. I have a lot of long, thick hair. Most places insist on giving me layers. Your stylists actually listen and understand texturizing. My hair looks and feels amazing and healthy when I leave. 100% satisfied. Very impressed with the precautions they take to keep customers and staff safe and healthy during the pandemic. As a cashier I see a lot of people and daily get compliments on my haircolor thanks to Stephenie! Not to mention that my hair is so soft and shiny after years of coloring I won't use any other products besides Aveda to color with. The salon has taken great care to follow the law regarding covid precautions, and although I'm not fearful about it in general, I am grateful for the attention to detail and care they provide myself and others in salon! Well that was a confidence boost. I usually go to a salon and immediately feel intimated, subpar, and like I have no place being there. This isn't always on the salon though. But I know I'm not the only female to feel this type of way entering a salon. For someone that has such a poor relationship with my appearance including my hair, going to a salon can always be a struggle. But let me tell you, when I say the entire staff here is kind, warm, and welcoming, it is no exaggeration. Everyone was so incredibly nice and friendly. It felt judgment free. I was connected to the salon via Instagram was so thrilled to get an appointment so quickly. They scheduled me with Hannah who was an absolute godsend. She listened to me, like really listened to me and my concerns about my hair. She gave me an incredible cut, made me feel like my hair goals were totally obtainable, and made me feel secure in my hair issues. She honestly loves her job and is an incredible artist. I got a 60 min deep tissue massage by Mari and it was amazing. I have always had very deep knots in my shoulders and recently had a Charlie horse in my calf. She worked on both of those main points while also working on the rest of my mussels. Very professional and personal. I am giving this 5 starts EVEN tho I have to go get my toes repainted tomorrow:-( I had a whole list of things I needed/wanted done. Linda at the front desk called me on her day off and made it happen on short notice!! She was so SO kind and made it so easy!!! I showed up today and she was just as kind in person. I saw Gabriella for a facial, tint & lip wax. It was the BEST facial I have EVER EVER had and I have had a lot of facials. She was gentle, thorough, kind, and gave a great massage too. It was just an all around wonderful experience! I can't wait to have another one!!! The pedicure was good too-McKenzie! I am just not sure what happened....I sat for 5 minutes, then drove 35 minutes home. And about an hour later I showered. More than enough time to dry...but when I got out of the shower all the nails are smudged....UGH! Oh well, they still look good. This place was clean, comfy and everyone was hospitable. I've been going to Jax's for about 8 months now , it's a pretty fancy salon. But my belief has always been that you get what you pay for and these stylists are highly talented and let's be honest, when it comes to the hair that you're going to walk around with all day, don't you want to get the best??? My husband is military and needs his hair cut every two weeks. He's very picky with his hair and usually leaves the barber disappointed . I suspect that they hear the words "military" and "fade" and it's just down hill from there with a quick cookie cutter style. Anyways, I brought my man to Amanda who is a senior specialist at Jax. He's hooked. She took her time to really create a cut that was styled and tailor to his look and this is honesty the best hair cut I've seen on him in years . I called Jax in late January and made an appointment to see Hannah on February 16th for a haircut for a specific price. After waiting slightly over 2 weeks - on the day of my appointment - I received a call and learned that Hannah had been overbooked - so I agreed to come in on the 19th instead. No mention was made of my being switched to another person for the new appointment or that the price would be higher. But on the 19th I found out my appointment was with Jaime (not with Hannah) and that Jaime charges slightly more than Hannah. I have nothing against Hannah or Jaime, but the way this situation was handled (how difficult can it be to schedule a men's haircut?) made Jax look both disorganized and unethical. read more

Just had my hair trimmed and slightly color (partial foil) at Jax Salon & Spa in Gig Harbor, WA. I'm a middle aged women with hair that is changing. It's so nice that my hair stylist, Amanda, has been working with me to make the adjustment with my hair and I love it. I've being going to Jax for 9 years now. This salon fried my daughter's hair (click on photo for full view) and the owner or manager didn't even call us back. We tried to be calm and talk with them. We sent them emails with before and after photos...the owner's son was there when the lady kept the bleach on too long and put it on all over the bottom half of her hair...it was burning her back and steam was coming off her hair! This was suppose to be an Ombré. I spoke with the receptionist 3 times and she confirmed the owner's son knew but was too busy to call me to resolve this for this weekend. My daughter is leaving to go out of town and this weekend is all we have to fix this. So I am going to have to go to another salon and pay again. I understand things happen, but to not even make this a priority is terrible. My daughter is only 14 and to do this drastic change to her hair when the appointment was for Ombré, gradual highlights is unbelievable! Of course, it looks even worse from the front, but didn't want to post her on here. I would never have posted a negative review if they would have made this right!!!! UPDATE: I finally got a ridiculous response: "I apologize for the delayed response. I understand your frustration with the experience your daughter had yesterday. We heard back from our owner and bleach reacts like that if there is a product that was previously used on her hair such as: henna, metallic dye, or a chemical relaxer. Because of the way it reacted, our stylist needed to wash it out and could not apply any more product, otherwise, it would further damage her hair. We charged for the duration and product used while she was here. Although we can not fully refund the service, we can offer a discounted repair treatment with the same hairdresser." - Guest Relations Team (no name) My daughter has literally had her hair highlighted twice in her life that's it! She's never used any of the products they listed in their response. This could have been a learning experience for their hairdresser, but instead they are trying to put blame on us that somehow we had done something to her hair prior...and they want us to pay more to fix their mistake. The issue isn't so much about the terrible burning and steaming situation as it is about the fact that they put a ton of bleach on a 14 year old's gorgeous hair when she only wanted some gradual highlights. Okay first of all I would give them 10 stars if I could! I am a new customer and will be returning! I have been looking for permanent hair salon that I can trust and stick with. (This endeavor has been a painful one with many bad haircuts and brow waxes). This salon has exceeded my expectations! Wow! From the moment I walked in until the time that I left was comfortable and pleasant. I felt like they genuinely care about what they are doing. It is a wonderful atmosphere. Makenna did my hair and she did a phenomenal job! Usually I leave the salon saying I guess it could be worse but when Makenna finished with my hair I loved the cut. I felt like it really looked pretty and she put just the right touch on it to give it a fresh look! WooHoo!! My daughter is going next week to have her hair done there for the first time and I feel confident that I can trust they will take care of her too. Maren did my brows and I have nothing but good stuff to say about her as well!! She knows her stuff and is in the process of reshaping and fixing the poor brow job the last person did! Typically I would have rated my experience high as I've been going to Jax for almost 2 years for threading with Feloria. Although the procedure itself isn't very relaxing I enjoy Feloria's professionalism and the expertise she provides. If it wasn't for that I would probably go elsewhere where the prices are more reasonable. I live in Puyallup and work in Tacoma so to go all the way to Gig Harbor for a service is dedication. Recently due to unforeseen circumstances I missed my standing 6 week appointment with Feloria and her calendar was booked for the next 2 weeks. The front desk associate asked if I would like to have a service with their other esthetician Maren Wagner. Since I was in dire need I accepted the recommendation. As soon as I started my session with Maren I knew this wasn't going to be up to the standards that I had come to expect from a Jax Salon & Spa esthetician. Her process made me feel not only uncomfortable it was downright painful. When you're having the hair on your face pulled out by the roots the pain is greater when the process is slower and she was VERY SLOW. Need I say more? I knew by the end of my session that I would never see anyone other than Feloria again. When I arrived at the front desk to pay I was surprised yet again to find out that I was charged the same amount for the service. I made the receptionist aware that I was extremely surprised that they would charge the same for a beginner that they did for an experienced professional and they assured me that she was not a beginner but a highly experienced esthetician from Aveda and that she would soon be training others. In my humble opinion she needs more training. read more

My wife gets her hair cut here. The hair cuts have been ok for the most part. Our biggest problem with this place is that they keep upping the rates. After two years of going for the same hair cut with the same person the rate has increased $15 dollars. So if you get your hair cut here expect a $65+ dollar bill for a cut ( no color, just a cut) after 2 years of going. I understand that rates go up but this rate of increase is out of control. This place is also sneaky and deceitful about the rate increases. They do not tell you until you are done with the cut. This is no way to run a business that generates repeat customers. If you have a lot of money to burn on a marginal hair cut then this is the place for you. There are plenty of other options that are just as good, and a much better value also. Needless to say wife will not be going back. What a sad way to run a business. read more

Today, I received the seaweed mud wrap at Jax Salon and Spa. As I've had numerous body treatments at other Aveda Salons and Spas, I had a pretty good idea as to what to expect. However, what actually happened surprised me quite a bit! After being led into the treatment room, I was given instructions as to where to put my clothes and how to lie on the table, and that the therapist would knock to ask if I was ready before she re-entered the room. After I undressed and got under the sheet, she knocked and came in. All normal. Step One of the treatment was a salt scrub/dry brush exfoliation. After I was scrubbed down, the therapist turned on the shower and told me to rinse everything off (normal). And that she would re-enter the room to change the sheets for Step Two: the mud wrap, as soon as she heard the shower door close. I assumed she meant after I was finished and had covered myself again with a robe or a towel. **And let me state that this shower was inside the treatment room (also normal) and had a glass door (not frosted or pebbled) completely transparent, with no option of a privacy curtain.** So, upon entering the shower to rinse off the scrub, I closed the shower door and the therapist comes right back in the room and starts changing the sheets to get the bed ready for Step Two (not normal!). To say I was shocked is definitely an understatement! She even smiled and waved at me while I was rinsing off. Never have I had any body treatments where the therapist comes back in the room when the client is completely naked and exposed. I rinsed off as quickly as I could as I felt extremely uncomfortable! When she left the room again to take the dirty sheets away, I exited the shower, dried off, and got back under the sheets for the wrap portion of the treatment. When the mud wrap had finished, the therapist started the shower again so I could rinse off a final time. However, I made sure to ask her to remain outside the room while I was showering this time. She obliged me and agreed to change the sheets once I had finished and had covered myself again. I will also mention that I really wasn't able to relax throughout the mud treatment because I felt violated from her being in the room while I was showering. **Also, upon unwrapping the outer layers of the wrap, the therapist also completely unwrapped the sheet that had been covering me, thus leaving me exposed again! (Not normal) I'm not sure if she is always this careless when unwrapping clients or if this is simply how she operates. I find this especially unnerving as I had JUST asked her moments earlier to allow me some privacy while I showered and not to re-enter the room. And only moments later had the sheets pulled off leaving me fully exposed. In my opinion, this therapist lacks complete discretion and has no sense of modesty for the client, leaving the client in a VERY awkward and uncomfortable position. Would she behave this way with a male client? Would she remove the sheet completely and re-enter the room to change the sheets while a male client was showering?? I hardly think so. Then why is this acceptable behavior when there is a female client showering? It is my suggestion (which I gave to the therapist and owner of the spa) that IF the therapist must be in the room to change the sheets while I am showering, then a solid opaque shower door or privacy curtain MUST be used. It is really shocking to me that body treatments (that require showering) are conducted in this unprofessional manner. I will also note that while I was receiving this body treatment, my sister was receiving a massage from another therapist. We had planned to switch after the first treatment, where she would receive the body scrub/wrap and I would receive the massage. However, upon me retelling my experience to her in the hallway, we decided neither of us wanted to stay for the second treatment. So, we told both therapists our concerns and also spoke to the spa owner. I will definitely not be back to this Aveda salon. read more

This salon has its nose so high in the air, it's not even funny. It is quaint and they use Aveda products...but other than that-there isn't anything to rave about. They are rude and I have had a nice cut with Chantel-once! I have been back multiple times, to be disappointed. The stylist Abby is horrible and cut my hair that was mid-back length to above my chin when I stressed to her to keep it at my clavicle. The staff is rude and when I mentioned it they blamed me. The pedi is pretty much just a polish change...it's a chair and they soak you in a bowl. Lame for the high price!!! There are much better places elsewhere!!! I hate giving my money to rude snotty people, and that is just what this salon is! I tried multiple times because of the Aveda products. read more

I can't even with this salon. It's amazing. My stylist was Julia, and boy does she know her stuff. My hair was super long and I wanted to move to an A-line or lob. As I always do when I'm testing a new stylist, I gave her a general idea of what I was looking for but then gave her full control in regards to cut, length, etc. Most stylists get nervous at this point, but not Julia. She studied my features, made a decision, and started cutting. My hair is shorter than I've ever had it (at least 12 inches were cut off), and I could not be happier. The cut? Is perfect. An actual wash and wear style - the first one I've ever received, though many have tried to deliver. It's balanced, it's bouncy, it falls right into place. I love Jax, and I love Julia! read more

Jax Salon us my first Aveda experience and I will never go back! The salon is beautiful and clean and run by hospitable and knowledgable staff. I have incredibly thick, long hair I've been dealing with my entire life. In my 25+ years of various hairdressers, Shannon at Jax is by far my favorite hairdresser to date. The cut, the color, and the 1.5 hour blow-dry (because of my thick, long hair) goes above and beyond any service I've ever experienced. So, it was my first experience at Jax salon and I was extremely disappointed with how it turned out. I had a consult appointment for microblading. I showed up LITERALLY 6 minutes after my appointment and the receptionist told me the lady left already. Then I'm told that she gives a 15 minute grace period for appts- it WASN'T even 15 minutes. I don't live in gig harbor and I have kids so to arrange a babysitter.. and I drive all the way there to be told THAT? And I never got a call or ever heard from her again. Jax Salon and Spa is a wonderful upscale Salon in downtown Gig Harbor. Granted, parking can be a bit annoying sometimes, but the location over all is great. Every time I walk in there, I always feel welcomed. In fact, just last Friday I had went in for a hair cut with my stylist Austin, it had been about two years since I had been (I had veered away and let another stylist do my hair and she butchered it), but he hadn't forgotten me or our conversations. That says something. The appointment's last about an hour with a scalp massage, a pre-consultation, they ask if you would like tea, water, or something to drink (and their tea is fabulous by the way!) before starting. Then they'll take you back for the shampooing, the chairs are extremely comfortable and the sinks don't strain your neck. After they do a nice towel dry, you are directed back to the chair and they get started. Austin is a great stylist, and I recommend him, especially if you have curly hair. He's also the owner's son. :) I have always had a great experience with him, and have always walked out happy. He is the ONLY stylist to make me feel this way. The prices are decent and you pay for what you get, also don't skimp on tipping, I know people don't expect it now, but it's also nice to do so. ;) read more

I had my hair colored here and an updo for my wedding in August 2012. First off, my hair color was fabulous and I really loved it. They did a fabulous job. For my wedding updo the road started out bumpy, but was quickly fixed by my husband and I meeting with the owner. He was very professional and did a great job of clarifying what I wanted and figuring out a way to make it happen. My hair was great the day of and the updo stayed all the way to the end of the reception! I highly recommend this salon. read more

Highly recommend. I've seen multiple stylists, they're all great just depends on what you're looking for, and the manager does a great job. The owner is on site though I've never really spoken to him. Highly versatile and I love Aveda products.
