BK provided amazing customer service over the phone to make sure I was ready for moving day and that they were aware of any special needs I had. Jay Movers is the moving company you've been dreaming about! I can't say enough good things or recommend them highly enough. I had actually hired another moving company, and after Golan's completely scammed me only three days before my move, I called Jay Movers and they saved my move. Jay Seo, the owner, came to my condo the same night I called and quoted me an amazingly affordable price (literally half of what Golan's was going to charge me.) Then the day of the move, the crew showed up a few minutes early, each introduced themselves to me, and were incredibly polite. I have literally never seen movers work so hard or so quickly--90 minutes total to get everything out of my condo and storage unit. Everything was wrapped up with care before going on the truck and not a single item was damaged. I just moved from a sprawling 2-story 2nd floor apartment into a 3rd floor walk-up. I wasn't looking forward to the move, but Jay Mover's made it go off without a hitch. Everything loaded and unloaded in just five hours, coming in well below estimate. Interacting with Abraham, Isaac, Eddy, Alonzo and Mauricio was great. They were professional yet friendly and really worked at an astonishing pace. They even carried down some of the larger, heavy items. I was able to schedule a last minute move (just 4 days before my move date on the 1st), which was a feat in and of itself. They were a little late (about a half hour) from the scheduled window - but as a late afternoon move (3pm-6pm was the window), and with the late booking - being a little late was not a big deal. I have a LOT of stuff, and the guys (Ken, Ricardo, Julio, & Erasmo) were able to move all of it out of my old apartment and into the new by 10pm (2 bedroom to 2 bedroom). The guys were professional, and they can carry a ton of boxes/furniture very quickly. I'm worn out after watching them move, I can't believe they did this all day long. The cost was exactly the quote I was given, everyone was very professional. Jay (the owner) even stopped by to check out the progress at one point. A bolt for our impossibly complicated Ikea bed feel out of place during the move and was left in the truck. WOW - Best Movers Ever! After calling around and getting different quotes for my scheduled move, I easily chose Jay Movers based off of their reasonable rate. I was extremely impressed with the crew's professional and courteous service. This is the gold standard to which every moving company should hold itself! I have used Jay Movers 6 times over the past 15 years for my moves in the city and every time I am amazed at what a superstar team Jay has in place. The movers work so quickly and efficiently. They know what they are doing and how to handle bulky or tricky items. I have many pieces of fragile artwork and fine furniture, but with how well they wrap and protect my things, I have never had anything damaged. I don't know what their secret to hiring is, but I have never encountered time and time again teams of movers with such strong and honest work ethics! I used Jay Movers recently for another move (I'm so sick of moving!). It was actually a move into storage so I will have to use them again in a few weeks. I have a 1 bedroom and they moved everything in 2 1/2 hours from there into storage. very fast. The crew I had was contracted out, but they were very good. very nice guys and the leader knew what he was doing. I used Move-tastic before, but couldn't get them this time, waited to long, and I must say these guys were just as good. So completely annoyed with Jay Movers. The people who did our move were super shady! They didn't break any of our stuff, but the service was so bad it warrants two stars. I had to book a last minute move and they were the only place around that had openings. They definitely took a lot longer than all the other movers I've used in the past, but that wasn't the main issue. When I booked the move I was told that moving blankets and tape were included. When the movers showed up they told be it was something ridiculous like $5/blanket. Then the crew lead told me he had some extra from the last move and told me he'd cut me a deal- if I paid in cash. When we got to my new house, they demanded water. Which we were planning on offering but I was annoyed they demanded it. We had moved some boxes on our own so we had some cups here to offer it in, but otherwise how would we have even been able to?!?! Then my husband caught one of the movers TAKING A SWIG OUT OF OUR TRIPLE SEC FROM THE BOX HE WAS CARRYING!! To top it off at the end I was signing the papers and gave a decent tip. I'm wondering if there are two different crews of guys working for this company given the different experiences of yelp reviewers. My husband and I used Jay Movers after calling 4 other moving companies who were already booked. I was hesitant, but hoped that I would end up having a good experience. Unfortunately, it turned out to be everything I feared. Three guys arrived, assessed our large apartment and the foreman made a big show of saying that we had more stuff than they expected, and they needed a bigger truck, and definitely a 4th man. I said that we stated MORE stuff than we actually had for this very reason, we over-estimated. My husband also told them over the phone that he thought they would need four guys, but they insisted three would be fine. Foreman makes me talk to his boss, I say yes, yes, whatever you need to do, let's just get this done. The foreman then pulls me aside alone to sign the paperwork (my husband is at our new house trying to get things in order) and tells me that he thinks MAYBE he can make it all fit in one trip BUT I have to make sure to take care of him. I stressed to him very clearly that I know how to tip, I always take care of my guys, don't worry we have money for a very good tip. He tells me that this is just between us and I have to remember to tip HIM more than everyone else. Okay. Yes, this is exactly like the bad reviews I read. So the move begins, and I also make sure to tell said foreman to please be careful with all boxes marked fragile because they contain either glass or art. Of course they all began strapping boxes up with no regard for any markings whatsoever. They get two stars instead of one because they all did work very hard, and the job was done in the time they said it would be done. But I have to stress that this foreman has no finesse whatsoever when it comes to the tipping game, many things arrived broken, boxes clearly marked "FRAGILE" were crushed from being stacked under non-fragile boxes, and they used cheap tape on a lot of furniture that I am still trying to use Goo Gone to get rid of. At the end of the job my husband tipped the foreman and said, "this is for you and your men" and the foreman took out what he thought he deserved (most of the tip) and said, "no, now you go tip them". I wonder if the owner is aware of his foremans on the job behavior, and I hope it comes to his attention because it's a terrible way to do business. read more

To preface - there was some issues with my movers which the company did try to rectify but overall the whole experience still left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Pros: - Were able to accommodate my move on short notice - Tried to resolve the issues with my actual movers in the best manner possible Cons: - I was confirmed for 4 movers to arrive at my condo at 1:00 (moving up to the Lakeview area and I knew there was a Cubs game and wanted to avoid Cubs traffic). 3 movers showed up at 1:45 - which added approximately 45 minutes to an hour to my moving time. Had they been on time we could have avoided Cubs traffic and made my moving time frame into my new building - Missed my moving time frame due to the workers arriving late. Luckily my new building allowed me to move in at a later time that evening but we had to wait 2 hours before moving in. Jay Movers did not charge me for this time which I felt was appropriate given their late arrival - By the time we were able to move in, one of the movers needed to leave for personal reasons so I was down to 2 guys. They didn't finish until 9:15 pm and both movers were giving some attitude of the time. - The head mover (Alex) indicated that movers are typically given between $50 - $100 PER MOVER as a tip. Unfortunately I did not google this information beforehand (my bad) but the going rate is anywhere between $15 and $20. I ended up giving the 2 guys who completed the move $60 each and the gentleman who needed to leave early $40. As it turned out Alex never gave the $40 to the 3rd gentleman and went against the company policy of quoting tip prices. The management indicated that Alex was fired after this incident and I was refunded his tip and he was instructed to give the $40 to the 3rd gentleman. They did ask if I wanted any of the other tips back but I declined. Even though it was their fault that the move took so long I still felt bad for the situation. My bad for being too nice I guess. - I was quoted $343 but my move ended up costing me close to $600. Yes, there was the addition of 1 mover after my initial estimate but the disparity between those two values is outrageous. I give props to the management for trying to rectify my concerns but when all is said and done I won't use this company again and won't recommend them to my friends. read more

SOOOO, I was stressin a recent move big time. For months and months I thought about the process and how much there was to do and how little time we had. AND... It was worse than I thought it would be. Man, I never want to move again. Anyway, I digress. In all the calamity and anxiety associated with the move, there was one bright spot: Jay Movers. Why? 1. Setting up the move was super easy. They were available at my convenience and sent me a reasonable quote right away. 2. They called to confirm about a week before and ask if I had any questions. 3. They called to let me know that the crew was running late about an hour ahead of when they would actually be considered late so I could plan accordingly. 4. Man, were they fast and efficient... Moving into our old place, we had all sorts of issues with the movers I used (parking the truck, getting my box springs down the stairs, scratching the floor, etc) so I was worried Jay Movers would have the same issues, but NOT A-ONE. Lalo and his 2 sidekicks wrapped everything and floated breezily down my 4th floor walk-up in about 45 minutes. 5. They came in about 100 bucks UNDER estimate! WOW! 2 hours later, everything was settled in the new place and unwrapped. One of the guys should really sideline as a designer-- we liked so much how he set up our bedroom furniture, we left it. Success. So, all in all, the move sucked. But Jay movers was the bright star in the dismal biz of packing up your life and transporting it to another location. Use 'em. read more

I used Jay Movers and disappointed. The guys who moved me, moved like snails. if you look at my last review I mentioned Lalo and his crew and they moved fast. I had the same furniture that Lalo moved (which they moved me twice by the way) and it took these guys at least 3 hours longer than Lalo. I was told that Lalo is no longer with the company, wish I had known that before I used these guys. When I called to complain, the dusch bag dude on the phone laughed at my complaints and on top of that these duds broke items as well. I moved in the last 3 months twice, using this company, I wasn't even offered a discount when I inquired. Not that I should but you would think that any reputable company with a faithful customer would offer them some kind of perk or reward for returning. (Note: End/mid month and weekends, most companies charge more.) + You can use your credit card to pay for the move. (Other companies only wanted cash. Smells fishy to me. I did not want to pay cash because I wanted a record of the transaction in case my belongings were damaged.) + Prompt & on time. I was told 8AM. Sure enough, they were there at 7:57AM. I was told someone will call me 2 days before moving day to verify. Sure enough, someone did. + I had the pleasure of having the team of LALO, ANDRES, and (I forgot the other guy's name). GREAT, AWESOME GUYS! They moved so quickly, I literally turned around of 3 seconds and 5 boxes were gone, right on the shoulders of Andres while he scurried off the door to bring stuff in the truck. + Lalo went over the paper work with me and the charges before they started and after they finished. + We were done in 2.5 hours as quoted. + Always ask for LALO, ANDRES, and their team when you move. They are quick, hard working, and very professional. - Only minus is the person who answers the phone when you call the company has a little bit of an attitude problem. No biggie, though. I have to join the naysayers here. I recommend against using Jay Movers. I moved this summer and it was a bad experience all around. First, they way underbid the job and the up-charge was substantial--in the thousands of dollars; they charged for supplies that they said were included and they did not even have the right sized truck for the job forcing them to take two trips, charging me for all the travel and time. They also ignored the labels on boxes which would have told them where things went so I had to spend the next day moving things myself. I also had to move furniture around as the crew failed to pay attention to that, too. Basically, I re-moved the move. Jay's provided a bid, site unseen, which I suppose should have been a warning sign for me, but they said they knew what they were doing. The bid was off by a ton and the truck was too small so we had to take two trips, all on my dime. I also hired them to pack which was a giant mistake. That was the most unprofessional job I have ever seen and, again, it took way longer than the bid. They packed garbage! For real. Garbage. Wrapped and packed. This company might be fine if you are moving from a studio or one bedroom, but any bigger than that and you'd be better off looking elsewhere. They do not have the equipment or the crew for a big job, and they won't stand behind their bids no matter how egregious the error. The crew also took a long break for food. They apparently did not eat before coming and expected me to feed them! OK, fine. I will treat for that sort of thing, but then they charged me for the time they spent eating!! Bad company. These guys were a nightmare to deal with. They showed up late, claiming that they were waiting outside. Why they couldn't ring the doorbell to let me know they were there, I don't know, but they tried to charge me for that time that they were just standing around outside. I was moving a from a 1 bedroom 1st floor walk-up to a studio in a high rise, with an elevator. They were very slow and lackadaisical about moving things into and out of the truck. Several times, I had to tell them to get back to work when they were standing around, on the clock. They even left things in the apartment and I had to call them back to get them to add them to the truck. The whole move took 5 1/2 hrs, which is much longer than it should have taken if they had just done their jobs correctly. During the move, they broke several pieces of my furniture and the television, and trying to get them to reimburse me was impossible. It took numerous calls, and finally they agreed to pay me $50 for all the damage. Somehow, though, the guy didn't know how to fill out a check correctly, and he wrote it in such a way that it couldn't be cashed. He wrote "$50.00" in the box and "Five hundred dollars" out on the line, so the bank wouldn't accept it. At that point, I figured it was worth it to me to forego the $50 and to keep the complaint open with the Better Business Bureau. When I checked the BBB before I hired them, they had no complaints, and I figured someone had better let people know how terrible these guys are. Overall our experience with Jay Movers was ok. Terry and Ricardo are absolutely great and work really well together. I would hire them again without a doubt. The third guy on the team, however, wasn't up to the same standard as them. He was slow, carried significantly less and took lots of breaks. As a result, there were times when my wife and I had to step in and help (either because he wasn't there, or because he couldn't lift the item in question). I feel like we could have finished significantly under our estimate had all three movers been as capable/dedicated as Terry and Ricardo. After the move, we were charged $30 for materials (tape and cellophane wrap only...we had already boxed everything up). There was no mention of this fee over the phone or on the estimate I received via email. It felt like a bit of an extraneous charge. Had this charge been mentioned during the estimate phase, it wouldn't have caught me off guard. We are still unpacking, but it seems our belongings faired well during the move. How could Jay Movers have made this a 5-star review? Two things: 1) Make sure all movers on the team are willing and able to do the work. 2) Mention the materials charge up front. read more

I hired Jay's movers in March 2018 for 1 studio's worth of furniture. I was moving less than 1/2 miles, so they were in and out in less than 3 hours - the job itself went great and they were quick and professional. However, they lost parts of my bed and despite multiple calls and follow ups, they have failed to find my missing pieces or to reimburse me for the loss. I had contacted both the moving manager and the owner himself and they both assured me they would find the missing pieces, but following that call, both have seemed to have forgotten about my issue. To reiterate, I was moving barely enough furniture to cover a 500sqft apartment less than a 1/2 mile, and they somehow still managed to lose parts of my bed in the process, and have yet to compensate me for the loss. read more

I booked Jay Movers for my move because their phone quote was very fair. Unfortunately, they arrived exactly 1 hour late to my apartment for my move on the scheduled day. 20 minutes after they should have arrived, I called dispatch to find out what their status was; he told me 20 more minutes since the van was stuck in traffic. 20 minutes later, the movers had still not arrived, and I called dispatch again who said they should arrive any minute. They finally did arrive just as I was making my 3rd call 60 minutes after the scheduled arrival. THEY WOULD NOT HAVE UPDATED ME ON THEIR TARDINESS HAD I NOT CALLED TO CHECK MYSELF--very unprofessional. When they finally began loading my stuff into the truck, their excuse was that the customer who was scheduled before me had not packed her belongings although she was supposed to have. Why couldn't they have given me a call to give me a heads up? To top it off, one of the movers was acting inappropriately, flirting with my friend who was present to help me with my move that day. Towards the end of the move, one of the guys commented to everyone present that the placement of my bed in front of the air conditioner was a mistake. I paid you to help me move, not to give me unasked-for advice on where to put my stuff in my extremely downsized new apartment. He also began showing me pictures of an apartment he had fixed up and that I might be interested in renting. Uh, I just moved into an apartment, TODAY, remember? Unpleasant experience; needless to say, I will not hire Jay Movers again. read more

I've gotta hand it to these guys. They did a really great job for a very reasonable price. It was the first time in my life I've ever been able to afford to pay for movers and these guys have sold me on it forever. Teddy, Joseph and Jose were incredible. They got me moved into my 3rd story walk up in less time than was quoted to me. They took time to carefully wrap furniture and belonging to ensure that they arrived at my new location safely. Jose and Joseph even took the time to carry my huge, heavy gas grill up to the roof deck! My only issue was with timing. They aren't able to supply you with a set arrival time, instead giving you a 5 hour window of when they'd arrive. Though, that could be standard with movers, this is my first time using a moving service. Otherwise, they were A+ all the way! Their movers lost one of my belongings (I'm intentionally being vague to keep myself anonymous). The movers said they accidentally left it at my old place. Since they're only human, I thought, "No big deal." I tipped them well ($20 a pop) and returned to my old place only to find nothing. When I called the movers, they said they had left my belonging in or near the public elevator! I was a bit upset, at this point. I tried to file a claim (through the company's insurance). Jay (the owner) tried VERY hard to discourage it. In fact, he refused to file a claim the first time I called by saying, "It's only been a day. Don't file a claim now." I explained to him very cordially that it won't ever show up because the movers irresponsibly lost it. After being told off about 2-3 times, I was pissed. Despite my anger, I did not have the time to bicker with Jay or his crew, so I gave up. The belonging only costs me about $50 - but Jay's and his workers' treatment of this simple matter has lost my business and the business of all those connected in my network. Could not be happier with Jay Movers. I used them back in May to move my one-bedroom third-story walk up into a storage unit. They completed the move in 2.5 hours. I was so happy that I didn't hesitate to call them again a couple weeks ago after I had found a new apartment (another third-story walk up). I had a huge, eight foot sleeper sofa that the guys tried to fit up the stairs for a solid 20 minutes, but to no avail (I'm not that broken up about it. That thing was a monster!). They moved in the rest of my stuff, then took the sofa back to the storage unit for me. Even with the sofa hiccup, they still completed the job in 2.5 hours. Crazy good and fast service. As with most moving companies, it can all depend on which crew comes to help you out. That being said, make sure you ask for Terry, Iban, and Christian(I think that's his name?). Anyway, these guys were incredibly helpful, finished under the projected time, and charged me less than the original quote. They're also incredible handy as one of our pieces wouldn't fit through the doorway and Iban was able to remove the door in about 1 minute. Go with Jay movers and make sure you get these three guys. I move a lot. like a LOT. you'd think I'd get rid of some stuff each move but somehow the stuff i keep always tops the stuff i get rid of so i have a lot of stuff to move. this gets expensive when you want to get movers so i was stressing my latest move since i'm on a crazy tight budget. When trying to figure out what movers to get i went on yelp and checked out who had high stars and feedback about being cheap- I requested quotes from a few places but jay was by far the cheapest, easiest to understand, least work to get the quote, and best follow up.
