This review is mainly for the veggie cheese steak which consists of a few veggies with cheese . Overall it was bland ,since there were no seasoning added it seems. The meat options maybe be better .also it took really long to get the order ,even though there were just orders ahead of me

I'm vegetarian and finding a delicious sandwich place can be hard if you don't know where to go. Jay's Cheesesteak makes amazing vegetarian sandwiches! Definitely come if you're hungry bc I could only finish half of my sandwich! The portions are really big. I had a Seitan Sandwich with pesto and mushrooms and it was so flavorful! My boyfriend got the SF Giants cheesesteak and he was super impressed. The bread was the right texture (not too dry or soggy), great flavors, and the perfect hot sandwich. The place is very small! We came with a group of 10+ and we pretty much took up the whole space. The servers were nice and were able to serve us quickly considering how many people and one cook, probably 4 sandwiches and some sides at a time. Overall I was really impressed and would definitely come again! There is only 1 bathroom and it's pretty small. There was only a hand dryer available.

Jays was on my list of places to check out in SF for sandwiches. I've struggled finding a place for good cheesesteaks around here and Jays was an example why. Terrible quality bread with not so great ingredients. The picture says it all, just a soggy brown cheesesteak in the end.

I ordered a pizza cheesesteak off of DoorDash and it was honestly disgusting. I took a few bites and I noticed there was mayo in my sandwich. Who puts mayo in a cheesesteak?? Honestly it was disgusting. It completely ruined the sandwich. I took a few bites and threw it in the trash. What a MASSIVE DISAPPOINTMENT!

I really love this little spot! It's a nice little hole in the wall type place and the food is amazing! When I used to work in the city I would visit this little place often for my street burger type fix. I love how they put the shredded lettuce on your burger and how they have hot peppers on the side that you can snag when you pick up your order. It reminds me of a SoCal spot I used to love growing up. I call it a little burger joint. So it's cash only at this establishment but everything is fairly priced so you don't need too much cash! What I like about jays is it's consistency. No matter what I know when I come here my food is going to be good! There are plenty of places in the mission but to be honest the other spots that serve burgers are over priced and not as delicious. You could easily spend $20 in the mission for a burger but at jays you can get a burger fries and a drink less than $20! I come here whenever I'm in town and in the mood for a good burger.

Jay's Cheesesteak is family owned and operated. This establishment has been in the 21st St. Mission location for more than 22 years. It is a fast food restaurant offering cheesesteaks, hamburgers, sandwiches, and staple sides like fries. It offers up to 12 options of vegan menu items. This is a counter order style restaurant and you will immediately notice staff at the front kindly waiting for you. Inside feels comfortable and it is a very casual spot as many come and go quickly. It can be spotless or a little disarrayed depending on rush hour. It is a perfect stop to grab picnic items for Mission Dolores Park nearby. Overall, a great place to eat in or grab and go. I never would've imagined having a vegan cheesesteak until I tried this place out. I ordered a custom cheesesteak which was a tasty vegan cheesesteak. It had Impossible meat, caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms, mustard, vegan mayo, and with a side of free spicy, tangy cherry peppers. I wish that vegan cheese was offered here to complete a traditional Philly cheesesteak that is vegan. I heard that you can bring your own vegan cheese and they can cook it in for you.

Jays favorite cheesesteak: grilled onions, mushroom, and peppers. With a side of tots

Ask the Community - Jay’s Cheesesteak

What kind of vegan cheese do you use on your vegan cheesesteak? Is it cashew based? (I have an allergy to cashews)

Hi I’m sorry on are vegan sandwiches we don’t use any cheese at all but we use vegan mayo some customers bring their own vegan cheese so we can put on for them I hope this helps have a great weekend!!!

Did Jay's Cheesesteak change owners in 2020? New bread, new staff...

Hi Shannon thanks for asking no it’s still the same owner and yes we had to change the bread because the company we used to order from closed it’s doors in March without even giving us a heads up!!! Merry Christmas and happy New Years to you take…

This place was included on a list of Sunday brunch recommendations. I had seen other fellow Elite Yelpers recommending it, so I wanted to try it. We had the French toast sticks, very good, as well as the classic breakfast dish, my partner had the breakfast burrito. Both dishes were decent, but we were there for the company mostly. The restaurant was quaint and cute, more compact, but had a secondary overflow area in a separate part of the restaurant. There were restrooms on both side, and Causewells served as a chill morning for us with our friends. The location had a cute bar set up for evening link ups, and the service was very friendly. The vibe is more of what you go for the food is decent but won't necessarily blow you away. Try them out and see for yourself. For tourists, or visitors of the city, the location is in the Marina District, so Golden Gate Bridge is near if you'd like to sightsee. This location is also very close to the Presidio theater.

The fresh grass fed cheese burger pairs well to eat with cheese fries in SF. The fries were crispy and saucy and got a bit messy. The woman at the counter was really friendly. I used to work retail and dealing with customers, even at the start of the shift, can wear you down pretty quick. So I gotta give props to her for being positive during this very busy day. I got the crispy hot honey chicken tacos, which is one of this month's specials. It came with delicious sweet corn, cabbage slaw, chipotle mayo, and a cilantro-lime crema. It's basically the flavors of elote with fried chicken and it yummy! The breading on the chicken was even and crisp. And I enjoyed the spicy-sweet flavor of the honey, which complemented the chipotle mayo. I also enjoyed the crunch from the cabbage and the softness of the flour tortilla. I paired with it the fried Brussels sprouts to get another veggie into my meal. Though I do love very charred sprouts, there was a hint of bitterness. I may have needed more lime to cut that. The jalapeño mayo was good. But I think tossing it in pork fat is the way to go with Brussels sprouts to really pump up the flavor. I'm not sure what oil they fry it in. I think I'll stick to their sweet potato fries, which never disappoints. It's always busy there, but it's never too difficult to find a place to sit. It's shared seating, with long tables inside and large tables outside. But my friend and I took it to go so we can have dinner with the show. And the timing was perfect - we didn't wait too long to get our order and we arrived about 20mins before the band started. The quality of Gott's has been consistent over the years across their locations. So it's a tried and true place to get a delicious meal.
