We had a Rocky Balboa cheese steak $22, garlic tots $6, onion rings $5 and a Coke $2.50. The Rocky Balboa cheese steak is supposed to be extra meat and cheese. A regular one would have been fine as this was indeed a lot of meat and cheese. The garlic tots were tasty. An adequate amount of garlic made it burn. The onion rings were served with ranch sauce. I want to give this place a better review. I've been coming here for years and for the most part its been good, one of my preferred cheesesteaks in the area. But today they dropped the ball. Ordered my usual original Philly, no peppers with fries, decided to get a brownie as well. Cook was on his airpods talking to someone while the other took a good few minutes before he even noticed I was there. Ok, so I was in town overnight for work. And I was craving a chopped cheese but couldn't find anywhere near my hotel that had them. Then I went down the rabbit hole of looking g up the best cheesesteaks that were in the surrounding area where I was and Phillies was very highly recommended. So naturally I was super pumped because I love a good cheesesteak. After about an hour wait the food finally made it to my hotel and I was starving. I ordered just a classic Philly and the chili cheese tots. Initially when I got the bag it smelled great and everything was still piping hot. Folks, when I tell you this was the most bland cheesesteak I've ever had I am not joking. The meat didn't seemed cooked very long, I had a few different clumps of chew meat in the sandwich and they super skimped on the cheese. I was disappointed so I went for the tots. I opened it up and it didn't look good at all, but I was super hungry and decided to give it a try. The cheese sauce was watery and tasted horrible, there was no actual chili on the tots and they decided I didn't need the onions on it for some reason. I must say... it has been FOREVER since I've had a really good cheesesteak. Tiny hole in the wall location in South SF that has certainly impressed me with their amazing flavor and variety. You have the staples like Cheese Whiz as well as Provolone as choices for cheese, but have other choices as well with what you want. With other cheesesteak places I've gone to, there are places where meat/bread ratio can be a little off. I don't like mine too bready and with the Rocky Balboa (with extra meat and cheese), it works out perfectly the way I like it. Now if you're a little more crazy, if you attempt and can finish 5 of them in under an hour with a soda, you can get that whole meal for free (only 2 people have completed that challenge). NOTE: you must give them a few days advanced notice and pay for the meal ahead of time (it's almost like $90!) Is the Rocky Balboa worth the $17 or so? OMG yes. I could probably eat 3 of those just by myself in one visit... hahaha.. yea.. not gonna try to eat 5 at one time.. not yet anyway.. LMFAO. all about the CHEESE WHIZ! Very Disappointed I ordered the Rocky Balboa's with mushrooms thought it was a little pricey but I really wanted the extra meat and cheese. But there was no chees. I feel like how could you go wrong basically same ingredients as regular Philly but wasn't quite it. I ordered my standard cheesesteak (cheese with onions and peppers). The sandwich was missing the peppers (sweet and hot)--one of my favorite things on the meal. I had ordered the orange cane soda, but they gave me the Boylan (brown) cola. It just tells me someone didn't care enough to read the order.
